very minor 3.1 spoiler

i know a lot of people picked the "love" option from the fortune-telling and while the result of that is pretty funny (the traveler is very beloved)

i find the "health" option wayyy more interesting and picked it. the result was the kid being flabbergasted and kind of unsettled with the divine saying the traveler is going to live for tens of thousands of years.

like, what few scraps about aether and lumine's past we have said things like the traveler twins witnessing the birth and death of stars and seeing countless other worlds. to put that into perspective, the other longest-lived beings met so far on Teyvat are usually several thousand years old at most, with morax being considered eldest at around 6000 years.

thinkin about that one bit in the sumeru archon quest where the Traveler is trying to redirect scaramouche's attention to dottore and he basically goes "HAHA nice try, jokes on you i already hate that fvcker" and then he lightning-blenders everyone outside of the greenhouse. even tho a majority of those people are fatui grunts who ostensibly work for him.

which is then later followed by nahida confronting dottore where she is trying to make what is supposed to be a huge unfair demand of him, telling him to destroy all of his clones in exchange for a gnosis, only for him to go, "HAHA, lucky you! i fvcking hate those guys!" and then he just. accepts the deal. regardless of how this means this is going to mess up the plans of the him who was in snezhnaya.

and i'm now remembering that tartaglia was on a mission to find scaramouche to get back that gnosis, which dottore was mutually helping the balladeer keep away from the tsaritsa. and once again tartaglia is too late to stop his fellow harbingers from sabotaging one another, like how signora used him as a pawn without his knowledge. what even is his job now, is he gonna show up in a sumeru event. "hey comrade have you happened to see my partners in crime who are now committing crimes against our own cause." dottore has already ran back off to snezhnaya with the two gnosis, probably to appease the tsaritsa, and scaramouche is in a coma. he's too late!!

the Traveler hardly needs to lift a finger for the harbingers to be kicking eachother's shins in.

very funny and interesting to see two separate video essayists who delve into very different topics both go down wild rabbitholes of unexpected research results thanks to them individually asking a similar question of "what artist composed this sound"

defunctland with a bumper ad audio cue culminating in a heartfelt and heartwarming finish versus hbomberguy sinking into a pit rapidly because he wanted to do a short video on where the roblox "oof" came from. both highlight the same issue, how artists' work are regularly taken for granted and misattributed if not outright stolen, and it is VERY fun to watch them back to back.

tiny child living in poverty turns out to be incredibly gifted with working on clockwork machines after being left alone at home for so long that taking apart and reassembling old broken things was all he had to occupy himself. seeing how happy his mother is when he succeeds in repairing a mechanism motivates him to do it again and again, not fully understanding that his mother is now selling these items to help them get by, just knowing that he'd do anything to have her smile.

only for it to not be enough to get his family out of debt. finds himself being walked to the doorstep of an unfamiliar house, his mother telling him to be good, and then he is left. told for years by the orphanage owner that he was abandoned because he wasn't wanted, breaking him down by harming him and having him harm others to "prove" that he has any worth.

then, the new "Father" takes over. everyone is still expected to prove their worth but it is loyalty to the family that takes priority. she hands him a familiar music playing locket, taken back from scum and specially retrieved for him, and he realizes it's the one item he repaired that his mother had never sold, had cherished. had kept even after leaving him, because she had wished for him to live knowing she likely would not. and it's covered in her blood.

while i get folks having mixed feelings on the noelle page talking about seeing susie bully kris, i do feel it is really in character for susie and kris to have had really troubling interactions in the past. like, she -did- try to bully kris, she -did- threaten them with physical violence on many occasions which, in chapter one, we see with her actually slamming kris into a locker.

while susie never escalates to the kind of violence she threatens to use, doesn't actually bite kris' face off or go out of her way to throw punches, her saying really horrible stuff like "maybe if you disappeared your mom would realize how much better her life is" does follow her pattern of saying really harsh things before backpedaling.

and that conflict is actually neat to see. kris seemingly shrugging it off, ignoring the threats and being way too ready to deflect an apple chucked at their head, is in line with their pattern of being concerningly detached from people. (it also hints at kris being so comfortable with susie's outbursts possibly from having experienced them before, able to know the apple was going to be thrown, and already somehow aware of how good a friend susie can potentially be. maybe... from a past reset...)

noelle being awkward and trying to laugh off the encounter also makes sense to me. 1) kris has potentially been picked on for all sorts of things (bratty!) so susie's behavior isn't New 2) noelle is an anxious and awkward person who doesn't know what to do especially when it seems like her childhood friend doesn't care about what just happened to them.

the kids are not alright but they have the spirit to wanna try to be.

thinking about the upcoming minecraft update that adds armor trims (among other things) and how i need to go into overdrive getting myself a complete netherite gear set asap before i am hit with needing over 100 diamonds to make One Set.

to start with, for a full set of diamond armor you need 24 diamonds (helmet is 5, chestplate is 8, pants are 7, boots are 4)

you'll need upgrade tablets to change diamond armor into netherite (plus the netherite ingot). every item piece needs a tablet as they're consumed on use. each tablet uses 7 diamonds to "copy" (craft a second of the same tablet). 28 diamonds for 4 tablets for just your armor, an additional 35 for your tools (pick, shovel, axe, sword, hoe, unless you're like me and have TWO picks then it'll be 42 diamonds).

and THEN to apply the new -trims- you'll need more tablets of the designs you want, which are also consumed on use and cost 7 diamonds per to craft, another 28 for 4 armor pieces.

that is a total of 115 diamonds to make one set of netherite armor and gear.

meanwhile on a fresh multiplayer server after hours spent spelunking i have found... One Diamond.

the diamond economy is going to be in shambles.

to summarize succinctly the shitty hp game allowing players to make "trans" characters (in actuality it's more that they did the lazy dev route of not locking sliders and you are still forced to choose a binary dorm to reside in) while the ip owner continues to fund legislation that will kill trans people is in the same vein as companies like hershey's putting up commercials about caring for children's happiness and then using child slave labor to make their chocolate.

ultimately they only care about funneling more money towards themselves to better ease their own inhumane goals, and will offer hollow platitudes to give their supporters something to point at to obfuscate the shitty inhumane atrocities being committed in the background.

like how scott cawthon, creator of fnaf, gladly praised and used the lgbt+ community that supported his games for art and labor on sequels and then used money from those successful sequels to quietly fund politicians who seek to revoke gay rights and other bodily autonomy from people. he doesn't actually give a shit.

they believe that money makes them right. and they will tell you what you want to hear, take your money, and use it to hurt people.

really don't get why the "new girl" deltarune story is so controversial when it is just. a depiction of a regular occurrence, a rougher interaction between characters who we had already seen experience friction in the chapters that are released.

yes, susie ends up being very loyal to and protective of kris. -after- she had spent an unknown amount of time making threats of physical violence and calling them a freak.

kids can be mean! are people wanting to downplay it because it is uncomfortable to acknowledge it?

while my experiences aren't universal, i was bullied really badly as a kid. pinned on a brick wall, punched, slurs thrown. i remember getting fed up with a boy who'd hit me, asking, "What did I ever do to you?" and something must have clicked because he stopped. completely.

in the next few weeks he apologized. asked to know who all was messing with me, started looking out for me. it didn't erase the past cruelty, but he did become a friend. it's not the ideal, or nicest way to establish a friendship, but it was one of mine and one of several where people who became near and dear to me started with "i used to think you were insufferable" and became them protectively holding me like a weird beloved cat.

so, seeing deltarune explore that, the rougher edges and more complex aspects of people -deciding- to be friends, is neat. and makes the story realer to me.
