DP x DC: Loser Baby
So the thing is, tonally John Constantine is probably not a great match for Danny in lighter funnier fics
Don’t get me wrong, John can have his lighter moments, especially in crossovers, and he’s got a sense of humor
But
Hellblazer lore is dense and weird, but more importantly it’s DARK
Like, extremely
John is a deeply traumatized man, people around him get hurt, he spent three years inpatient at a psychiatric facility. There’s a story line where he’s a homeless alcoholic who makes friends with a rent-boy and shows a grim reality of life on the street, substance abuse, addiction, and sex work. It also ends with John’s demon blood eating the face off of the King of Vampires who happens to look like James Dean
That’s not even getting into the serial killer plot or the multiple trips to hell
Sins of the Father involves John being forced to confront the soul of his father in hell, a man who was terribly abusive and blamed John for the death of his mother who died while giving birth to him, which given information revealed during this comic turns out to be very misplaced.
However, makes him a good fit for a “Jack and Maddie are Bad Parents” fic, and/or a dissection fic
And it would basically play out like “Loser Baby” from Hazbin Hotel
Because it is a shitty situation. Coming to terms with neglect, the trauma of them rejecting him for an aspect of himself he can’t change Phantom Planet does not exist and the emotional and physical trauma of a dissection, and then being homeless and having to find a way to survive on his own
But John can empathize and understand
His own trauma may be different but he gets it, can relate to it, and can say “mate, situation is fucked to all hell but you don’t need to be alone because of that”
And that’s not even getting into the trauma of dealing with supernatural weirdness, which frankly they would both understand pretty well
Just two traumatized people bonding and saying “yes, we may be damaged goods, but we’re not broken and we aren’t alone”

Reminder: it is not "a waste of time" or "unproductive" to do something you find fun or relaxing. It is taking care of your body and mind. So don't feel guilty for having hobbies, going on a trip, taking a nap or binging youtube. You deserve to have that
Your worth is not the profit your can make for others. Your worth is innate. You deserve to be happy

I think it’s cute in stories when someone learns a new thing for their crush, but also for some reason my mind always turns into “but what if they already knew that skill beforehand and everyone just thinks they learned it for their crush??”
So current thoughts on that is a Human knowing how to make Vulcan spiced tea, and everyone thinking they learned for their crush but it was actually something they already knew how to do, and here are the different possible backstories for it:
1) Used to be really into cooking competitions, competitive tea making was one of them and they learned how to make it then, it’s obvious when watching them because they get really intense when making it and time themselves
2) After a hugely traumatic experience, as a 14 year old they went to Gol, not necessarily to become a master, but just to get their emotions under control and be able to move past it, just a v traumatized Human child running around Gol, under the watchful eyes of the masters of Gol, (possibly becoming traumatized in a different way), and they just never thought to bring it up as an adult
3) They weren’t even thinking about what kind of tea to make, they just opened up some recipes on their padd for tea, made the first thing they saw, and it happened to be Vulcan spice tea that they made correctly
4) Had a Vulcan professor once and made them some of that tea as a last ditch effort to get a nice curve on their final (didn’t work)
5) They really enjoy making tea as a hobby, but can’t stand the taste which is why no one ever sees them drinking tea, but they love making it, they dedicate each week to learning how to make a new kind

when you’re a child who grows up in an environment where your needs are constantly left unmet and you’re constantly told that outside the environment you’re currently in that there’s a scarier one waiting to eat you up and tear you alive, you grow into a bigger child who has to learn how to navigate a world you were never shaped for.

You just had the scariest day of your life. You're staying at your uncle's place with their son because ur father is busy trying to find out who's your other father. Your life is in danger because your other uncle who's daughter just died, has gone on a mad rampage trying to kill all the eggs in the server. You're not as kitted out as your fellow eggs, who have guns and chainsaws and other weaponry. You're not as good with pvp either as you keep losing to your cousin when you play boxing. After your other uncle has calmed down and ur dad finally arrives, he barely pays any attention to you, he's more focused on helping your uncle than asking if you're even okay, you dont think he even loves you at all. You are emotionally exhausted, its been a scary day. The uncle you're staying with confronts your dad that he doesnt take care of you, while your other uncle, the one who just went on a rampage trying to kill you and the other eggs, just called you to the side. He's asking you to be his lawyer for the upcoming custody battle between him and his ex, where the person that loses will be sacrificed in exchange for the life of their daughter back, you are a couple of days old.
You are Tilin.

You did all you could to survive your childhood. Nobody could have done it better in your situation. You did the best it was possible with the information available to you at the time. You were good enough. All of it was good enough to keep you alive.
