I don’t often capture photos of just landscapes / beautiful views - although I always thought I’d be a landscape photographer, I soon realised that I love to make photos that include people in them and capture the essence of human connections and emotions - such as pride, love, a growing sense of confidence, authenticity, reassurance, achievement etc. . So here are a few of my favourite landscape photos from recent travels. . I love how the light and shadows plays out in these photos, the natural angles and lines, or how they draw the viewer’s eye right from the front of the photo through to the distance, with lots of layers in between! . And I loved the old picket fence amongst the sand dunes too, basking in the sun whilst they protect the dunes. . SLAVE HUTS, BONAIRE...

When Holland took over the Caribbean islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao from the Spanish in 1633, the avaricious Dutch West Indies Company was quick to move in.

Bonaire was set up as a plantation island. Imported African slaves were forced to grow and cultivate maize, filter salt from the local salt flats that still exist today, and cut dyewood.

To accommodate these people, a host of diminutive 'slave huts' were clustered in the areas around Cabaje and Rincon, and located directly on the beach.

They were built of stone, and were so small that a man or woman could not possibly stand up in them. A small door and square window provided access and fresh air for up to six people, all co-existing in straitened, agonised contortions that scarcely bear dwelling on, pun wholly intentional.

Today, restored and repainted, they stand as grim reminders to the island's grisly, greedy past. The original, thatched roofs have been replaced by far more durable, cost effective marine plywood...

Three years ago I did a road trip to visit the Narcisse Snake Dens … 🚙

The Narcisse Snake Dens is a provincial wildlife management area located in the Rural Municipality of Armstrong about 6 km north of Narcisse, Manitoba. The dens are the winter home of tens of thousands of red-sided garter snakes. These pits are the largest known concentration in the world of this particular type of snake. Their winter dens are caverns formed by the area's water-worn limestone bedrock. In the spring, they come up from their dens to the snake pits, where they mate, then they disperse into the nearby marshes for the summer….

….. it was a great drive and a wonderful visit. I also stopped for a visit in Gimii as it was just a short drive away from the snake pits. The beach in Gimili is huge and the small town comes alive during the summer months. Take a drive and check out the snake pits and Gimili in Manitoba.
