TREKTOBER 2021
Nothing new for Trektober 2021 but for those who missed the event last year, a recap!
There are 3 prompts for each day in October. One is Trek-centric, one is plot-based, and the last one is sexy. Pick one and create a fanwork for it. Any kind is fine! Art, fic, playlists, crafts, whatever!
Then share it, on the relevant day in October! On tumblr with the Trektober2021 tag, on Ao3 in the collection, wherever you like!
If you can’t manage any of the prompts for a day but you still want to complete them all, we allow three wildcards for the month where you can choose whatever topic you want.
Create anything, for any pairings, just make sure you tag properly please!
(I'm sorry, but I won't be able to keep up with the mass reblogs myself this year. Please follow the tags, support your fellow creators and share their work where you're able! Thank you.)
NSFW prompts are below the cut for anyone who wishes to avoid them entirely

Interspecies Relationship- Day 22 of Trektober 2021
This can be summed up as Nyota Uhura is a Disney princess and Spock is in awe
Spock awoke to a quiet, overcast morning. The sky was covered with clouds, the sun barely peeking through to the world below.
It was the first day of spring break and he wasn't looking forward to it. Although most of the students would be travelling somewhere else, perhaps Las Vegas or to the swaying palm trees of Florida, there were still plenty on campus to make going anywhere insufferable.
Nyota had laughed when he told her the previous night of his annoyance. He had been offended but her promise to make their first spring break less insufferable was holding true. Today they would be going to the California Academy of Sciences. He'd thoroughly planned their day, if he got up now, they would have time to eat breakfast, prepare lunch and get going before the predicted rush.
He threw an arm over to Nyota's side of the bed and felt the cold sheets instead. Peculiar, he thought. She'd been there when he went to sleep, and when he woke up at three o'clock in the morning.
While he got up to investigate, he heard a song drifting in the air. He opened the door and walked down the corridor. The song got louder.
He stopped and listened for a moment.
"A dream is a wish your heart makes,
When you're fast asleep,"
Could it be Nyota singing? He knew of her talent. She'd told him that one of her ways to learn a language so quickly was to sing.
"In dreams you will lose your heartache,
Whatever you wish for, you keep,"
Spock continued to the bathroom and saw his prediction was true.
Nyota was kneeling over his bathtub, the luxuries of having graduated the Academy already meant his apartment was upgraded. Her hands combed through her hair, covered in suds. The soft scent of roses and honey was wafting around with the steam.
He didn't know if she'd noticed him or if she was purply comfortable in his presence. The human part of him hoped for the latter, although it was illogical to believe his hope had any influence on her desires. She continued to sing as she rubbed other parts of her scalp.
"Have faith in your dreams and someday,
Your rainbow will go shining through,
No matter how your heart is grieving,
If you keep on believing,
The dream that you wish,
Will come true," She took a deep breath after she stopped.
"Morning, Spock,"
He couldn't find words. How could he not find words? They were just words.
He gulped, "Indeed it is, Nyota,"
She smiled and gestured at him to come closer. He knelt down beside her.
"Enjoying my singing?"
He nodded.
"Want to wash the soap out of my hair?" She asked and lent her head over the edge of the bath when he nodded.
He took the shower head from the wall and slowly ran his fingers through her long brown hair. Maybe it was the early morning keeping his defences down, or perhaps it was her effect on him, but waves of her calm flooded through his hands as he stroked and rubbed her head.
She opened her eyes after he was done and smiled at him, "Now I've got to condition, put my heating cap on, leave it for an hour, wash it out, style, get ready and we can go,"
"That's a lot, perhaps we should reschedule the museum trip for another day?"
She sat up, "Why?"
"That is a lot to do and if we are to leave by ten o'clock then-"
"Spock, it's only just gone eight AM, we have plenty of time,"
"I suppose we don't have to get there exactly when it opens,"
She nodded and reached for the conditioner. He pushed her head down as he squeezed some onto his hand and raked them through her hair.
The calm was spreading to him as he stroked her hair. They had plenty of time, plenty.
Hope you enjoyed this!

Oh Captain My Captain
AN: I am once again one day late to @trektober-challenge but I hope you enjoy this for the prompt “Ship Bar”
Summary: Jim finally manages to ask Spock if he’s angry that he usurped the captaincy from him. He’s... surprised by the answer. There be pining Kirk here, my friends. Also this is AOS characterization!
At AO3 Here
They’ve been playing chess in the ship’s bar for three months before Jim can work up the courage to ask, “are you angry that I, er, stole the captaincy from you?”
Spock, who was just leaning over to move a piece, freezes for a moment before smoothly continuing his movement. “No, I have no desire for captaincy.”
“Really?” Jim can’t help but blurt out. “Why? You’d be an amazing Captain.”
Spock concedes the point with an elegant lean of his head, “it is true that I have often measured as an above-average Commanding Officer.”
Jim bites back a chuckle at Spock’s bland awareness of his abilities. “So?”
“I joined Starfleet largely to eventually achieve the rank of Chief Science Officer aboard a flagship to allow me to most directly study the most novel space anomalies. I only began taking Command track courses after Admiral Pike insisted that I could be both First Officer and Chief Science Officer on a ship one day after I voiced this concern. He was my advisor at the Academy at that time.”
“Well, sure,” Jim says, studying the board before moving a piece. “You like discovering new things, and you like your labs, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be Captain. Especially since you can clearly be First Officer and Chief Science Officer.”
Spock shakes his head, “it does mean that. Aside from this, I find a majority of the work a captain is expected to conduct daily to have an inefficient focus on my interests.”
Jim lets that sentence marinate in his head when he suddenly realizes, “you think being a Captain is boring!”
“I did not precisely say that,” Spock says, which is damning enough evidence.
“Oh my god,” Jim says, eyes wide with amazement and amusement.
“Additionally, I appreciate flexibility. I am not expected to spend the duration of my shift on the bridge, which allows me to personally conduct several experiments and ensure my input on command decisions.” Spock continues as if this may help soothe Jim’s amusement.
“Hm,” Jim replies.
“I have found that I have a significant capacity to ensure strong courses of action as First Officer, and it allows me to maintain a close eye on my primary area of interest. Therefore it is illogical for me to seek out any other command position.”
Jim jerks again in realization, “oh my god. You don’t want to be Captain because you’re pretty sure you can just bully your Commanding Officers into doing what you want!”
“Again, not what I said,” Spock replies long-sufferingly before finally making his move.
“Unbelievable. What do you find so boring-- or, I’m sorry, what duties does the captain conduct that you find inefficiently focus on your interests?”
Spock is silent for a moment as he completes his move. Jim looks around the board and decides to move his Bishop. Spock is quiet long enough Jim thinks he won’t answer.
“A majority of your duties involve the safety and management of this ship,” Spock says slowly, studying the board. “This involves discussions with maintenance, security, and sanitation. A significant portion of a Captain’s working day, while not in a crisis or engaging in diplomacy, is often spent reviewing these concerns, specifically regarding the essential details of life aboard a starship.”
Jim blinks at him, “you don’t like the nitty-gritty details of life on a starship.”
“I am perfectly capable of managing such details efficiently,” Spock replies crisply, making his move. “However, should I spend a majority of my shift on said work, I would have little time to conduct my experiments. Aside from this, Captains are expected to spend the duration of their shift on the bridge itself, which can become tedious during periods of relative calm. Also, Check.”
“And what about when those things do arise, Spock? Don’t you want to be in the center of it all?” Jim asks incredulously, moving his King to the left.
“How often, Jim,” Spock says with a twinkle in his eye, before turning to study the board, “am I not at the locus of important decision making? Additionally, how often is my advice heeded? I have found that I have been present for nearly 99.98% of essential bridge decisions, and my recommendations utilized 87.564% of the time.”
“Wow,” Jim sits back and considers what Spock has said. Essentially, Spock has managed to position himself to conduct all of the exciting experiments he wants during slow periods while still having control over the ship itself. Without any of the responsibility of the tedious minutia. Though of course, Spock does handle scheduling, which Jim reminds himself of with vicious glee.
“You really are a genius,” Jim says eventually.
Spock turns his eyes up at him again, sparkling brown filled with barely repressed mischief and a sly smirk, “as you say. Additionally, checkmate.”
Jim looks down at the board, then back up at Spock’s full lips and bright brown eyes. In that moment can’t help but reply, while tipping his king over in defeat, “you definitely got me.”

These Old Bones
Also here on AO3
Summary: Jim has just moved into a new apartment, and his new neighbour seems to have a fondness for humming Dolly Parton in the shower.
James T. Kirk/Leonard McCoy
For Trektober day one: meet-cute
Jim can hear someone humming. That wouldn’t be all that weird, except for the fact that he’s in the shower of his tiny apartment. He stands, stock still and trying to make out more than just the faint impression of music, before realizing that it would probably be a lot easier to hear if he turns the shower off.
He fumbles with the controls for a couple minutes, but when he finally gets the shower off the only sound in the bathroom is the slow drip of water and his breathing.
--
The next time it happens, Jim still isn’t sure what it was he was hearing. It’s faint and low and distorted by the sound of the shower, but it sounds a little like…
He actually manages to get the shower off with a minimum of cursing this time, and yeah, that’s definitely someone humming Amazing Grace. The sound seems to be filtering through the walls from the apartment next door, and when Jim presses his ear to the brass pipes sticking out of it he can suddenly hear a whole lot more clearly.
The person on the other side of the wall has a good voice—that much Jim can tell just from the humming—and he kind of wants to wrap himself up in it. He doesn’t realize that he’s been grinning like an idiot until the sound suddenly cuts off and he feels it slip from his face. It’s also at that moment that he realizes that he’s shivering and still has shampoo in his hair.
With a sigh, Jim turns the water back on to finish his shower, mourning the loss of his neighbour’s singing.
The weird thing is, he didn’t even know he had a neighbour.
--
It goes on like that, Jim showering obscenely early just so he can make it to his part-time job before class, and every day there’s the humming from next door. It’s like he and his neighbour are on some kind of weird shared brainwave when it comes to their bathing schedule. The neighbour—who Jim has dubbed ‘Bones’ after the day he’d hummed the entirety of ‘These Old Bones’—has a huge repertoire mostly made up of old country songs and Taylor Swift.
For a couple weeks, Jim just enjoys listening to Bones sing every morning. It becomes one of his favourite parts of the day, and the little burst of energy he gets from it carries him through his early shifts and life-draining classes. That is, until the day Jim hears the opening bars of ‘Out Of Touch’ and that’s it, he’s belting it out too and suddenly Bones has gone silent. Jim hesitates, but then the humming picks back up. They finish just as Jim’s rinsing out his hair, and he knocks gently on the wall.
His grin is most definitely more than a little goofy when Bones knocks right back.
And then one day, Jim’s in the shower and there’s nothing. No humming, no singing, no patterns tapped on the wall. At first, he assumes that Bones has just skipped personal hygiene today, but when there’s nothing the next day, or the next, Jim starts to wonder if he’s done something wrong.
--
It’s been a while since Jim has heard his neighbour singing in the bathroom, and he’s already missing it. It’s weird what a mood-booster it had been to get to burst into song randomly, and it just isn’t the same without someone there to back him up.
So when he leaves his apartment on one decidedly wretched fall morning, only to find a man cursing and jiggling the handle of the apartment next door, Jim’s brain short circuits. Bones—because this is obviously Bones, Jim would know that voice anywhere—is tall and tanned with dark hair and freckles peaking up from the collar of his scrub shirt.
“You haven’t been singing,” Jim blurts out before he can think of anything better to say, because apparently his brain said ‘neighbour’ and ‘doctor’ and ‘hot’ and decided that was good enough.
Bones stares at him, eyebrows drawing down in confusion, before realization dawns across his face. “You’re the guy who moved into 207.”
“Yeah,” Jim grins, “you’re the guy who likes to hum Dolly Parton on Tuesdays, for some reason unknown to mankind.”
“And you know all the lyrics to Shake It Off,” Bones points out, and Jim laughs.
“That’s fair. Jim Kirk, by the way. I’m studying aerospace engineering, and I’ve got more numbers in my head than brain cells, or so I’m told.”
Bones blinks slowly and stares at him like he’s grown a third head, and Jim smirks. “Well now, that was quite the introduction. Is this how you greet everyone?”
Jim shrugs. “Only hot doctors who live next door and sing in the shower every morning.” He winks, and Bones raises an eyebrow, but he’s smiling so Jim’s counting it as a win. “And you still haven’t told me your name. I mean, I can just keep calling you ‘Bones’ if you’d rather not share.”
Bones’ eyebrow has gotten even higher if that’s possible, and Jim’s a little afraid that it’s going to disappear into his hairline at any second, which would be a real shame because it’s a very nice eyebrow. “Why the hell have you been callin’ me ‘Bones’?” Bones asks, which is a stupid question because every second is making Jim more convinced of the nickname. “Name’s Leonard McCoy. I’m a surgeon at the children’s hospital, and I switched off the night shift two weeks ago.”
Jim tries to count backwards, and when he realizes he slaps a fist into his palm. “Oh! So the reason I always heard you at ass-o’clock was…”
“Because I’d just gotten in,” Leonard—no, that was way too weird after calling him Bones for months—nods, a smile tugging up at the corner of his mouth. “Also why I haven’t seen you around yet.”
“Wow, you look really hot when you smile,” Jim’s mouth says with absolutely zero input from him. He froze, before deciding to just roll with it. In for a penny, in for a pound as his grandfather always used to say. “Do you want to maybe get dinner sometime? You know, since you’re going to be on normal-people time from now on?”
Bones seems to consider this for a couple moments, before smiling properly and damn is that stunning. “That sounds real nice, so long as you promise not to try to get me to sing Lady Gaga again.”
“Ok, first: rude, Lady Gaga is an excellent musician,” Jim laughs, “and secondly: does seven work for you?”
When Bones doesn’t respond, Jim winks and shoots some finger guns his way, walking back towards the stairs. “Ok, great. I’ll see you then, Bones.”
“What the hell,” bones mutters, but he’s still smiling, “I already told you my name, and it sure ain’t Bones. And look where you’re going, you damn infant! I don’t want to have to scrape your brains off the concrete when you fall over the railing.”
Jim totally doesn’t trip over his own feet on his way down the stairs. Nope, not in the slightest. He has a date, after all.
