I know a decent amount of your readers don't really like Ryland due to the cheating. Which I think is pretty fair. Personally I think this makes Ryland a very interesting and complex character (and one of my favs in your story) due to the actual reasoning behind his affairs. I have felt like Ryland has never thought Eleanor has actually and truly loved him (and your answer to that ask of mine really confirmed it).

It makes me wonder if one of the reasons why he abandoned his children after Eleanor cheating on him and his mother's death was because he no longer felt like he could give proper comfort, care, and love to his children because he no longer felt like he even knew what that meant.

River, your assessment of Ryland is spot on. I don’t know when he went from a walking trash can to one of my most complex characters. I love writing his scenes. I almost cut his screen before the wedding with Blaze but it helped showcase both sides of Ryland so well. Before the wedding, when he was just with Blaze he was sincere and vulnerable but then after the reception he was his smart ass self 🤣

Ryland wasn’t raised to believe in love but when he met Eleanor, he realized what it meant to love someone. He knew she was in love with Archer and never believed that he’d ever be able to replace that love. In some ways because he felt this way, he made it reality.

I like to think that Ryland might not have cheated if his mother and brother hadn’t died, that was what pushed him over the edge. She was his conscience and would have pushed him to work through things with Eleanor. He would have also been present for the birth of Aubrey if he had not been home for the funerals and affair. But you are correct, he was so broken and lost after everything that happened that he was seeking out comfort where he could get it.

He knew Everly understood what he lost so it was easy for him to allow her to comfort him and fill the void. It wasn’t until Blaze fought for what he wanted that Ryland realized that he needed to keep fighting for his family. He didn’t know where he and Eleanor stood but he knew that he has to try to be the father their kids need and to be a better father than his own.

Yup! That is Miss Ismene. She had a whole photoshoot that I shared awhile back (here) lol. She becomes a model after one of her grandmothers on her mother's side.

Those are indeed 3 of their kiddos. 5 is Ingrid (3rd oldest), 10 is India (eldest), and the dude with the ponytail is Deon (4th oldest)

They were all featured in this giant group photo I shared forever ago...granted so is Aubrey and she's not technically related to asshat. Some are very much a copy/past of Vanessa....I'm honestly surprised no one connected the dots!

Does this meant that Simon has supplanted Sydney as Tristan's heir?

In Kristopher's eyes? YES!! In reality, Kristopher will be dead by the time Tristen has to officially name his heir so the line of succession is unchanged. Despite Druzar never having a female regnant, there is no law specifying male primogeniture. Historically if the eldest child of the monarch/heir is a female, she'd be married off to the heir of another country which would make her ineligible for the Druzian throne.

Since I won't be covering much of the non-Blaze Druzar shenanigans between now and the start of Chapter 6, here's the Druzar Line of Succession as it will be once my main story returns (~5 years from where we are currently at in BRHP)

lore question: are the lavender eyes a recessive or dominant trait? does it have to be inherited in an unbroken line for people to be part of the succession, or can it skip a generation?

GABE!!!!! I was really excited to answer this and then I lost momentum and I never answered!

SO in olden times, the lavender eyes were thought to be a sign from the mystics indicating they were fit to lead the country.

After the discovery of genetics and genome mapping, scientists learned that it was actually related to a gene mutation. If the child inherits the mutated gene, they will have lavender eyes. If they don't inherit it, no lavender eyes. There's no way that it can skip a generation but there is a rare possibility that the gene may mutate on it's own. If this were to happen within the royal family, they would be bumped up the line of succession but if it were a commoner, they would not be part of the succession.

What do you think would happen to Ryland in the Eleanor/Tristen Au?

Okay! So my delay in answering this is that I wasn't sure what the Tristenor AU would look like as there were so many different ways it could go. Would Asshat still become king and have all his kiddos or would he die young? Is Tristen still the heir to the throne? Would he have to abdicate to marry Eleanor? Would Donovan be the new heir, would the monarchy be abolished, or would Druzar merge with Trenton? Would Ryland even be born?

So in order for us to have this lil lovely Tristenor family, the main change is Asshat dies young. In the canon timeline asshat becomes king at a 30ish after his parents and brother/sil were in a care accident. In this universe, Asshat dies from an aneurism shortly after marrying Rhea. Rhea was pregnant with Tristen at the time so sadly he will be an only child (no Donovan, Ryland, or Blaze).

Going one step further, Asshat's brother, Theodore (the OG CP) ends up succeeding their father. He has three children: Alice (CP), Richard, and Lorna. Asshat and Theodore's sister, Alessandra, stays a working royal. I'd like to think that she'd still marry the same dude and have the same kids.
