“A very merry unbirthday to not he~!”
-
TIME TAKEN: 15.5 hours
-
Did I miss Deceit’s birthday? Yes.
Did I get this idea because of this? Also yes.
...Don’t really have much explanation beyond that. I might make this into a print if enough people like it enough! Probably 11x17s *finger-guns* Doubt it’ll happen, but if it does I’ll donate half of whatever I earn to the Trevor Project.
Oh! And if any of y’all want, I might upload the lineart of this for free-drawing like I did with my one Baby Patt art!
Hope y’all enjoy! Please reblog, for it fuels my creativity.
Love,
Pun/Msu/Mary

Heidi was my favorite part of the show. There were some very funny parts to the show, especially if you are a theater buff. There are about 10 mins of total blackouts, which is mostly a chunk in within the first 13 minutes. Depsite that, a nice capture and the audience was very into the show. There is washout, as it’s a full stage shot, but it is very very watchable. About 8 minutes is missing right before the Act 1 finale. Tootsie - Pre-Broadway / Chicago - September 11, 2018 (Preview) (SunsetBlvd79's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Santino Fontana (Michael Dorsey/Dorothy Michaels), Lilli Cooper (Julie Nichols), Andy Grotelueschen (Jeff Slater), Sarah Stiles (Sandy Lester), John Behlmann (Max Van Horn), Julie Halston (Rita Marshall), Reg Rogers (Ron Carlisle), Michael McGrath (Stan Fields), Anthony Wayne, Britney Coleman, Diana Vaden, Drew King, Harris Milgrim, James Moye, Jeff Kready, John Arthur Greene, Katerina Papacostas, Leslie Donna Flesner, Paula Leggett Chase, Shina Ann Morris NOTES: Excellent HD capture of the first PreBroadway preview performance. L’invité du jardin
Tumblr media

Pools Rock!
In such an extreme temperature changing, diving into cool and refreshing pools over the globe is the best solution for this week.

Pools have a respect for the natural rocky coastline. | Photo by Trevor Patt
One of Alvaro Siza’s first projects, the Leça Swimming Pools (1966), is an example of his careful reconciliation between nature and design. The swimming pool complex is located between the Atlantic Ocean and the road that follows the coastline. By sinking the building behind the road Siza promotes a disconnect between pools and the infrastructure of the city. He was careful to preserve a large portion of the existing rock formations when planning his interventions into the landscape.

Vinaròs is a town on the Mediterranean coast of Spain, near the delta of the river Ebro. Its south shore is a succession of coves and promontories on a terrain composed of strata of easily fractured conglomerate rocks. The length of the coastline and the surface area of the municipality are constant changing as a result of the action of the sea, which produces continual land slippage and erosion. The Wood Beach project has consisted in establishing a mechanism with which to measure the coast, on the basis of the creation of hexagonal timber platforms with a constant length of side based on the scale of the human body.

The Carpa Olivera center, built in 1915, was destroyed by a hurricane in the 50s`. Colectivo Urbano restored the center using the sea water to fill the pools and cleaning up the space. A spiral slide with a beautifully sculpted geometry adds a different perspective of social communication and redefines fun and interaction between its users.

This house is a 1:1 replica of one of the structures that forms the Jantar Mantar astronomical observatory, built in Delhi in 1724. | Photo by Iwan Baan
The Observatory House is set into a rocky promontory overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The convex section of the panoramic outdoor swimming pool determines a circulation of waves at its edges and all the views are always facing outwards. The presence of water in the centre of the house, resting on the floor and in connection with the sky reveals a kind of mystic paradigm of the observatory’s spatial concept.

The renovation of the historical pool complex the Baths of Géronde is designed as a renaturalization of the shore, recreating a sensible connection to the lake. The new pools are conceived as two water surfaces hovering slightly over the lake of Géronde with stairs and boardwalks providing swimmers direct access to the lake. The pioneering spirit of modernist architecture informs this sustainable expansion and brings in return the picturesque location of Géronde to the foreground.

Concrete is particularly suited for designs of plastic, sculptural nature. This brutalist architect’s designs are full of abstract shapes and openings that form mysterious caverns. What is all of this trying to express though?

Rétrospective Synthpop - Discographie ABC : Beauty Stab
Tumblr media
Good Bye, Symphonie !
youtube
Bravo ABC !
Recommandation : **/5 (Pourquoi pas)

Even With a Change in Scenery, Jahlil Okafor is Still an Affront to Everything Good and Pure About Basketball
Things were supposed to be different in the past two months for Jahlil Okafor and the Brooklyn Nets.
You remember all the reasons why he would turns things around with the Nets, don’t you? He was the #2 pick in the draft for a reason, right? He changed his diet this year, he’s a vegetarian now! He’s in great shape this year, but the 76ers weren’t giving him a chance to play! He just needed a change of scenery to become great again! It’s not his fault, the 76ers screwed with his head for a season and a half! The 76ers coaching staff didn’t help him become a better player, it was their fault, not his!
Except after 22 games with the Brooklyn Nets, maybe none of those were true at all? Maybe a coaching staff can’t help a lost cause who hasn’t evolved one aspect of his game in three years.
Maybe… just maybe… he’s not a good basketball player.
Maybe he’s simply a huge black hole when he’s on the court, sucking all intelligent basketball and smart decision making into his gravitational pull to be lost forever. Just a big blob of awful defense, turnovers, and the same three post-up moves you’ve seen since his days at Duke.
It’s insane to think that we live in a world where journeyman center Trevor Booker is a more polished and effective player than Okafor. Emeka Okafor has logged more starts in an NBA uniform THIS YEAR than Jahlil Okafor, and Emeka Okafor has only started one game.
You can find a lot of statistical evidence that proves just how ineffective Okafor has been for the Nets since his trade, but two particular stats after the jump are the most striking pieces of evidence for his on-court futility.
The Nets are on a 6-game losing streak. They're -70 in Jahlil Okafor's 77 minutes during this streak. They're +10 in the minutes he's not on the court.
— Jason Patt (@Bulls_Jay) February 13, 2018
For the season, the Nets have a -26.2 net rating with Okafor on the court. It's -1.7 with him on the bench.
— Jason Patt (@Bulls_Jay) February 13, 2018
That is…. that’s just not good.
In Monday’s loss against the Clippers, Okafor played only 13 minutes but somehow ended up with a -18 plus/minus differential. HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?!
For comparison, in the entire season Joel Embiid has only had three games with a worse overall plus/minus showing; -23, -19, and -20 stinkers in losses against Cleveland, Toronto and Indiana. He averaged 30 minutes a game in those losses, compared with the 13 minutes Okafor played Monday.
You could potentially point to him playing with the Nets third team for his putrid plus/minus results, but before you do maybe take a look at this recent defensive effort against the Clippers:
Everyone needs to watch this. How the hell did NONE of the three referees call Jahlil Okafor for three-in-the-key here? He was in the paint for 12 seconds before getting near anyone. pic.twitter.com/fUCibTmk4a
— Justin Russo (@FlyByKnite) February 13, 2018
Is that not a perfect microcosm of every single criticism of Okafor since his time in the NBA? He’s in the paint for nearly 12-seconds without covering a soul (and why he’s not whistled by the refs for a violation, as the original tweeter points out, is beyond me), basically wandering around as he watches the play unfold in front of him, doesn’t give initial help on the screen, backs way down into the paint before finally recognizing what is happening and weakly fouls the forward for an easy and-1 bucket.
No basketball IQ, no sense of anything unfolding around him, and a poor overall effort.
Well, at least the Nets fan haven’t started turning on him…
Jahlil Okafor isn’t just bad on defense, he literally looks like he’s just physically incapable and mentally unaware of how to defend any sort of movement.
— Charles LaRocca (@CLaRoccaJr) February 13, 2018
I, for one, am shocked to see Jahlil Okafor getting abused on defense again.
— Jon Toto (@JonSToto) February 13, 2018
Jahlil Okafor just doesnt get defense, even regular principles of defense. Like dont leave people wide open.

Not Just a Pelvic Thrust: Stratford's Rocky Horror Picture Show Entertains
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have been a fan of Richard O’Brien’s 1975 cult-classic, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” for such a long time. I remember setting my sights on Tim Curry (who played Frank N. Furter) in fishnet stockings, smudged lipstick and eye liner and feeling that twinge of excitement. I had no idea boys (other than my heart throb Robert Smith of The Cure who smudged his makeup proudly) could look so feverishly handsome this way and I had even less knowledge about what a sweet transvestite from Transylvania was all about. One thing that was crystal clear, I knew early in my life that I was not quite like the other girls and that was okay. I had the pleasure to see a stage play of Rocky Horror before, which was really impressive. I bought my first pair of fishnets for the event, put on gobs of makeup and looked like a walking dominatrix.  I felt really uncomfortable until walking through the theatre doors and saw everyone was dressed in a similar fashion. For one night, no one was judging.  I could swoon over all the boys who looked liked girls, or maybe it was girls who looked like boys. It was hard to tell at times.  I hung up my fishnets that night after coming home with a little jump to the left and then a step to the right. Fast forward to the present day. When I found out that the Stratford Festival was putting on the broadway musical at the Avon Theatre (produced by David Auster),  I was incredibly excited to see what this version would look, sound and feel like.  Of course after seeing the movie countless times (note the tv special in 2016 was cringe-worthy and I couldn’t even get through it) and getting a taste of a live theatre performance, it wasn’t just about the music, the characters really needed to WOW me. I have a lot of praise to give, which I will go into more detail later, but unfortunately, it wasn’t a flawless performance in my eyes. Here’s why: One of my favourite songs “Eddie’s Teddy” was a huge letdown. How can I describe Eddie’s (Trevor Patt) character? It felt like a fake orgasm.  Sorry, I had to be so blunt but where was the hyper-masculine, bad-boy, you’d never bring home to your parents that we all grew to love? He was lost in a sea of air guitars and broad way smiles. Nope, pass. Then there was Rocky (George Krissa). I’m going to be superficial but it was something that really stood out. Rocky’s hair was poofy and kind of reminded me of Carrot Top. His physique was... perfection and even being higher up in the balcony section, I could count his glistening abs. His hair though was another story. I much rather preferred the slick down hair cut, just like what was in the movie. Character wise, I don’t think he was able to get the right balance of passive creature and aggressive. Plus during Touch-a-Touch-Me, he should have looked at Janet’s ta-ta’s with awe and lust, yet his facial expression told a different story. Instead it felt like “yeah i’ve seen these before, let’s move on.” For a song that is meant to be highly sensual and sexual, my libido fell flat. Next, oh Janet! (Jennifer Rider-Shaw). Although her voice was angelic and her look was pure as snow, I didn’t really get the demure vibe even at the start of the show that Susan Sarandon (1975 movie) pulled off so wonderfully convincing. Also, where was that repressed sexual tension? It was really missing for me. Then we have Columbia (Kimberly-Ann Truong). When I think of her, all I can envision is the phallic lollipop sucking. It was really distracting and not in a good way. I felt her role was really over the top, yet in the scenes where she should have been highly dramatic (when Eddie’s death was announced), it felt like she was holding back.  She hit that level of crazy that just didn’t work for me. Her whole character was really quite confusing to be honest, but despite those flaws, she had quite the voice on her! Magenta (Erica Peck) didn’t really grab me. Magenta was the spitting image of Tim Burton’s ex-wife, Helena Bonham Carter, yet she kind of blended into the background with the phantoms. Plus where was her inappropriate lusty self? Lost in the shadows, I guess. Dr. Scott...well this was played by the same person as Eddie, so I definitely didn’t enjoy this performance. Now onto the positives! Riff Raff (Robert Markus) and Frank N. Furter (Dan Chameroy) were incredible, beyond anything that I really could have dreamed of! You could see the passion and love in both of these characters.  To me, they were the stars of the show. Brad (Sayer Roberts) also did a great job, exuding in overt geekiness and awkwardness, just like what I remember. Plus, what a voice! The narrator (Steve Ross) was also enjoyable. His deep voice gave me chills and he never broke out of character once, even when he went down to his skivvies and fishnets! The choreography (done by Donna Feore) for the dance scenes were wonderful. I loved hearing all my favourite songs with a few surprises along the way. The set, lighting, and costuming (kudos to: Michael Gianfrancesco, Dana Osborne, Michael Walton) were done really well. I have to find out where Frank N Furter gets his lingerie. Ooh la la! Also, despite a lot of the character flaws, the vocals of everyone really blew me away, especially Frank N Furter’s solo part of “I’m Going Home.” I almost shed a tear. I loved the audience hecklers who blurted out random comments throughout the show. They had the audience in stitches. Be warned that they don’t hold back. You will hear lots of profanity! Nothing is off limits, including a quick shout-out for the legalization of marijuana, which fit in rather perfectly since it was actually legalized on the day we went; Oct. 17, 2018 and some mentions of sexual positions that you may or may not have tried already at home.  There are audience alerts up mentioning mature themes and offensiveness, so if you tend to trail along the overly-sensitive path, this show is NOT for you. Despite some criticisms, I really loved the show. I understand the blood, sweat, and tears that go into making these productions and I can appreciate that they didn’t want to stick to the film entirely and used their own creative juices to add a bit more flair. If you are looking for a fun-filled, gender-bending good time, then I would highly suggest you book your tickets to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show. They have added a number of new shows, but they sell out quickly, as does everything in Stratford because this is truly world-class entertainment. The show runs at Stratford Festival until Nov. 25, 2018. Tickets start at $25 and are available online. Read the full article

Friday Five with Nani Marquina
To celebrate Women’s History Month, every Friday in March we’ll be featuring women in the design world in our Friday Five column.
To kick off Women’s History Month, we checked in with Spanish designer Nani Marquina who founded the innovative rug brand nanimarquina in 1987. Growing up, Nani was immersed in design having a father, Rafael Marquina, that was a celebrated Catalan designer himself, even winning an award for his 1961 oil cruet. That led to studying industrial design at the Escuela Massana in Barcelona where she fell in love with designing textiles and found success selling custom works. Looking to grow, Nani opened up shop, carefully seeking out the best raw materials and manufacturing processes out there for her rugs and textiles. Along the way, she brought in international designers, like Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Milton Glaser, Jaime Hayon, and Neri & Hu, to collaborate on unique collections, becoming the first textile designer to create the concept of designer rugs. Nani, as well as the brand, continues to produce visionary rugs and textiles that focus on shapes, colors, and textures that people instantly recognize as her designs. Read on to see what she chose to include in her Friday Five.

1. I’m in love with plants and flowers of all kinds. However, I have a weakness for cacti. In addition to being robust and durable, I am amazed at the structures and fractal compositions. Similar to pure geometry, the shape, the spines are systematically repeated in a beautiful way.

2. The most fascinating place I have ever been is the Sahara Desert. The silence is complete, connecting you to the origin of the earth, offering a special vitality. This immense landscape reminds us of how tiny we are, creating an incredible bond with nature.

3. I was very impressed upon discovering the work of Richard Serra at the Guggenheim in Bilbao. Far from having a cold and distant relationship with the hard medium and the immense size of his sculptures, I was overwhelmed to see how his gentle curved forms made viewers feel comfortable.

4. Cooking is reinterpreted in a surprising way. Even the most traditional dishes of Catalan cuisine are transformed in the eye of the beholder, being unable to recognize even the most common ingredients.

5. I love collecting traditional necklaces that I buy in the remote places I visit. They are usually made of ethnic beads, natural materials, and organic forms. However, recently I discovered the contemporary jewelry of Xus Anglès, who invites you to reflect on the interaction of the pieces.
