Our new #MonkeyCruise piece is a hommage to Artemisia Gentileschi's "Judith und Holofernes", one of the most brutal depictions of this popular theme.

Important to note here: it appears that this painting was kind of authobiographic. Artemisia painted it after being raped, and although the guy got time in prison her reputation was "damaged", so people say she painted her attacker into this piece. One of the most badass pieces of art I know.

The primate in this image is Nakalipithecus, potential relative of gorillas, or a drypithecine.
