summary: Sebastian was slowly sliding towards the darkness, dragging you along with him; until one day you realized you could no longer watch the boy you fell in love with destroy himself, until one day you poured your heart out and left.

You had known Sebastian for only a year now, but nevertheless you knew him better than his own uncle ever did. 
That was something you took pride in, thinking about yourself as the only one Sebastian felt comfortable enough to rely on. 
Maybe that was it, the first push in his direction, or maybe were his brown orbits, or his soft hands or his freckled cheeks. 
Sebastian Sallow soon began to consume every energy you had left as you spent your days worrying about him and wishing he was content until you came across again.
The thought of Sebastian alone keeping you up at night with a desire you had never known.
It was an early afternoon in December when you realized you would have done everything for the boy: you were sitting close to him, legs dangling in the void, your shoulders softly touching; he kept on rambling about a lost memory of his childhood, his cheeks a warm pink, his smile a pale white. 
You were lost then, intoxicated with love, so you went along, trusting the process, following him around with the only goal of seeing him happy again.
Until one day life came to gave you a reality check you were not ready to accept. 
The air was cold, it had snowed that night and your lips were starting to look purple as they parted to cast spells. 
The last goblin had fell to the ground, a painful groan leaving his lips as you turned around, eyes scanning the place until they fell on Sebatian. 
The boy was whispering under his breath words you could not decipher, his eyes a light green as the goblin who was running towards his sister suddenly stopped. 
You watched, from the sidelines as the goblin stubbed himself right in the stomach. 
Anne cried out loud, a high pitch filled your ears; it was like a veil was lifted off of your eyes. 
Sebastian was consumed by desperation, you had finally seen it and in a hopeless twist of fate you could still feel the linger sensation of crucio on your skin. 
He had casted that on you before. 
"Boy! What have you done?" Solomon’s voice bringing you out of your trail of thoughts. 
"I saved my sister!"
"Using an unforgivable spell? Your father would have been ashamed, you’ve gone too far, Sebastian". 
The boy looked at his uncle as the man carried his twin’s body far from him. 
You felt the sudden urge to run after him, to defend your friend against his own uncle, hands trembling with anticipation by your side as you could do nothing but hold them tight in fists.  
Sebastian turned around then and failed to see how you were not close to him this time but far in the back, a step too far for him to reach. 
You did not need words, nor Sebastian did. 
You had turned around, disappearing into one of the streets, making your way towards the castle, Sebastian following you silently. 
Not a word was spoken on the way back, not a breath wasted, that was until you were back at Hogwarts, taking a right turn to the corridor. 
"He doesn’t get it", your feet moving faster under you at the sudden sound of his voice. 
"Maybe if you talk to him" he spoke again, more to himself than you. 
"No, it doesn’t matter, we shall keep with the plan, stick to it". 
The unlocking sound of the undercroft entrance filled your ears as you both slipped inside, the smell of the room bringing you back to memories you no longer cherished for.
You took a breath you didn’t know you needed. 
"We have to go find the last piece of the triptych" Sebastian insisted, circling you until he was right in front of you. 
"No, Sebastian, I’m going on my own. Ominis is right, you never know when to stop".
Sebastian felt taken aback, almost stumbling onto his own feet. 
Did you not trust him? why the change of heart? 
"You just don’t care about me enough!" He had spilled, voice filled with venom.
You took a step further from him, your own heart breaking down to pieces.
"but I love you" you cried. 
Sebastian halted instantly, his feet suddenly as heavy as concrete, but you couldn’t keep your mouth shut no more. 
"I loved you down every path, with certain death ahead because I couldn’t bring myself to leave you". 
You were fanatic, rumbling, your face crimson red. 
"I loved you so deeply that every harsh word you throw my way has always been justified, even if I didn’t deserve it at all".
"Y/n-"
"No Sebastian! You don’t get a say in this".
You stepped closer to him, desperation in your voice. 
"I loved every scar, and I prayed my love was enough to heal the wounds, to stop you from bleeding. I came to hell and back only for your happiness and your happiness alone". 
"No, y/n, I know you, that’s who you are! you help people because you want to save them, because that’s what you do!" 
"I didn’t- I couldn’t- I’ve never cared about someone as much as I do with you and it’s killing me, it’s killing me Sebastian. I’m sorry you had to found out this way". 
You took a breath, recomposing yourself, tears threatening to spill.
"I am sorry, but I’m done". 
You were turning around now as Sebastian held your arm out, forcing you to face him again, "What? You’re just leaving me? After everything we went through?" 
You forced his hold off of you, "I can’t keep on destroying myself watching you become someone you’re not".
Sebastian scoffed "Ah, and you say you love me?" 
"I do, you ungrateful piece of trash. You are all I have ever known! And I’m done. I’m done being treated so poorly by someone I would burn the world for".
You were out of reach now, your feet slowing down for a second, he could only see your back as you glanced to the ground, "Goodbye, Sebastian". 
You were gone then, leaving him in the cold air of the Undercroft, tears threatening to spill his eyes as he could see nothing but red. 
It was everywhere; he smashed his hands on the table, anger spilling out of him like poison. 
His wand casted spells around the room, his body out of control.
It wasn’t until the undercroft had been turned upside down that he fell to his knees, tears running down his eyes, only a name in his mind. 
He loved you and he had lost.

BTS Rapline Triptych '23 - surrealist painting
i wanna be a human 'fore i do some art - yun by rm (feat. erykah badu)
(05/2023)
it's been nearly 5 years since my last rapline triptych, and 3 years since my last bts fanart, but after listening to agust d's latest album (in conjunction with rm and jhope's releases last year) i got a sudden wave of inspiration to do a surrealist inspired work!
this is based on the lyrics and general vibes of a few of my favourite songs from the albums (such as polar night, yun and equal sign!) as well as an interpretation of my own journey through the last 3 years or so...

i had actually originally planned to have suga be surrounded by flames (very similar to my 2018 triptych), but decided that the flames suited jhope's panel more (because of the connection to the song arson), so settled for a bathtub filled with... a red liquid (is it blood? is it wine? you decide lol)
part of my thought process was focused on the way his album in particular comments on how we change, and also how that can be a painful thing to reckon with. the last few years have felt very much like we've all been forced to choose either to sink or to swim, and while we decide we remain in some sort of limbo... the closed door and empty room are a part of this feeling (and also something i was inspired to do after watching his music video for amygdala).

the 'shadows' connected to rm (which also cross over into the first panel) are supposed to represent the concept of past selves. rm's album 'indigo' emphasises the idea of the self, and how to feel much more at ease with who you are now whilst not completely letting go who you were then.
the central black splotch (technical term) is based on work by the artist yun hyongkeun who was the inspiration for the song 'yun' (which is also where the written lyrics above are from). i liked the way his works looked like voids, with rough unfinished edges, drawing you in like a cave. i wanted this part to be the only real dark part of this central panel. i was a little worried this panel would look out of place because of that, but i kinda realised that that's the point!
this panel is very much a reflection of what it is to be an artist, and a human. and in the sea of soulless ai and the commercialised art market, it was kinda refreshing to create something that i didnt try and harmonise. the colours dont feel like they necessarily go together and the glitched flames from the final panel create a confusing mess in the centre of the piece, as a central focal point of the whole piece it honestly looks kinda bad to me, but i dont care! mess is an integral part of being human, and being human is an integral part of being an artist.

i originally planned for there to be lightning to coming out of the cloud because of the storm-y vibe of jhope's album, but i thought it'd clash with the fire so went with some rain instead lol. the album carries a lot of themes of the pressure of success, living up to other people's (and your own) expectations, and struggling with what you want out of life vs what you need! and i tried to reflect this in the cloud 'hat' on his head.
i wanted to add some open doors to contrast with suga's closed door, but whereas suga's door has a thin gleam of light coming through the seam, jhope's doors all lead to darkness. the fear of what lies beyond those doors isn't lessoned when the door is open, if anything it's heightened! the doors could also be empty, given that a lot of my motivation for art has felt lacking in the last 3 years lol...
the additional faces came about by accident but i really like how they came about lol. in a way i was trying to give the portraits a traditional ink drawing style, as well as continuous line drawing to fit with the surrealism theme. they represent the 'self' in all its forms, who we are inside, who we are to others, who we want to be etc. all three of the albums explore themes of self, and in their cases specifically who they are in a world where their success is almost unparalleled. i dont relate to this (ofc) but i do relate to the dilemma of how to stay true to that self whilst grappling with our commercialised and over materialistic world.
finding that faith in yourself as well as faith in art to bring you back to yourself has been hard for everyone and i found it really humbling to see that same pain i feel reflected back in the form of music.
ultimately this piece is about finding reasons to live and to keep going, and desperately doing that all through my art. something i've always done, but has been especially difficult in recent years. and like the albums themselves, this isn't the end of a journey, but instead a midway point, a crossroads, where we can look back and look forward in equal measure trying to make sense of everything...

The Heart or the Innermost Self: The belief that the heart or innermost self is the seat of the divine spark or the true self, and that spiritual growth involves cultivating awareness and connection to this innermost aspect of the self.

The World as Illusion: The belief that the material world and all of its phenomena are ultimately illusory, and that spiritual growth involves recognizing and transcending this illusion.

“There had hung this sense of buffering, insulation, she noticed the absence of an intensity, as if watching a movie, just perceptibly out of focus that the projectionist refused to fix. And had also gently conned herself into the curious, Rapunzel-like role of a pensive girl somehow, magically, prisoner among the pines and salt fogs of Kinneret, looking for somebody to say hey, let down your hair. When it turned out to be Pierce she’d happily pulled out the pins and curlers and down it tumbled in its whispering, dainty avalanche, only when Pierce had gotten maybe halfway up, her lovely hair turned, through some sinister sorcery, into a great unanchored wig, and down he fell, on his ass. But dauntless, perhaps using one of his many credit cards for a shim, he’d slipped the lock on her tower door and come up the conchlike stairs, which, had true guile come more naturally to him, he’d have done to begin with. But all that had gone on between them had never really escaped the confinement of that tower. In Mexico City they somehow wandered into an exhibition of paintings by the beautiful Spanish exile Remedios Varo; in the central painting of a triptych titled “Bordando el Manto Terrestre,” were a number of frail girls with heart-shaped faces, huge eyes, spun-gold hair, prisoners in the top room of a circular tower, embroidering a kind of tapestry which spilled out the slit windows and into a void, seeking hopelessly to fill the void: for all the other buildings and creatures, all the waves, ships and forests of the earth were contained in this tapestry, and the tapestry was the world. Oedipa, perverse, had stood in front of the painting and cried. No one had noticed; she wore dark green bubble shades. For a moment she’d wondered if the seal around her sockets were tight enough to allow the tears simply to go on and fill up the entire lens space and never dry. She could carry the sadness of the moment with her that way forever, see the world refracted through those tears, those specific tears, as if indices as yet unfound varied in important ways from cry to cry. She had looked down at her feet and known, then, because of a painting, that what she stood on had only been woven together a couple thousand miles away in her own tower, was only by accident known as Mexico, and Pierce had taken her away from nothing, there’d been no escape. What did she so desire escape from? Such a captive maiden, having plenty of time to think, soon realizes that her tower, its height and architecture, are like her ego only incidental: that what really keeps her where she is is magic, anonymous and malignant, visited on her from outside and for no reason at all. Having no apparatus except gut fear and female cunning to examine this formless magic, to understand how it works, how to measure its field strength, count its lines of force, she may fall back on superstition, or take up a useful hobby like embroidery, or go mad, or marry a disk jockey. If the tower is everywhere and the knight of deliverance no proof against its magic, what else?”
