Favorite headcannos about Jim and Claire

Jlaire, my beloved.

Some of my headcanons:

Claire is clearly more proactive when it comes to showing affection physically and putting it in words. Jim is more reserved - not because he loves her less, but because he has a different love language;

initially, Jim idolized Claire - and it's the main reason why he couldn't talk to her. Once he learned she was also just a normal girl with her own flaws and insecurities, the problem disappeared. And I like to think that it was what transformed a crush into true love;

Claire actually dislikes guys trying to pick her up with some dumb lines - she has experienced too many of those. That's why Jim's confession in Unbecoming failed;

Claire went with Steve to the concert not because she found Steve nice, or enjoyed his company, or something, but because it was her fave group. She'd go there with anyone - even with a literal goblin;

Jim giving everything to save Enrique meant a lot to Claire. It impressed her even more than if he went to the same extent to save her;

probably, an unpopular opinion, but I believe that if Claire hadn't tried to find the truth herself, Jim would have never told her about the supernatural. I feel there were high chances for them to end dating anyway, but with Jim keeping trolls secret just to protect Claire's peaceful world. Claire would learn it in any case eventually;

I like to headcanon that Jim came to like some things Claire enjoys, like theatre and Papa Skull;

on the other hand, Claire learned cooking from Jim - I feel that initially, she couldn't cook (not to the level of Barbara of course);

the point I absolutely adore is that both Jim and Claire entered each other souls and managed to free each other from a mind-controlled state. I feel that they had touched each other's souls, creating an unbreakable bond. By unbreakable, I mean unbreakable - it survived the time travel (and I'll die on this hill);

Barbara obviously likes Claire, but I feel that both Ophelia and Javier came to like Jim eventually too, despite their initial not-that-good impression;

I also strongly believe that Claire's worries for Jim played a huge role in the development of her shadow magic during Wizards. Like come on, her lover was seemingly dying - and she couldn't do a thing. If despair isn't a negative emotion, IDK what counts;

I also feel that Claire would stay with Jim, no matter what form he took. Yes, it includes even if he stayed full troll. Though, I bet Jim would most likely attempt to convince her to give up on him. It wouldn't work;

despite liking Romeo and Juliet, Claire is someone who'd rather fight and survive for her love, even though she's willing to sacrifice herself if there's no other way;

a bonus dumb headcanon is that Jim was constantly questioning if he was worth Claire's love. In his head, Claire's type looked suspiciously like Douxie, so he genuinely freaked out after seeing Douxie in close vicinity. It was an absolutely delusional view as Claire would gladly befriend someone like Douxie, but that wasn't her type.

There are so many things I love and hate about this series. Some the good ones are– CLAIRE'S DESIGN AND VOICEEEEEE I LOVE HER SO MUCHHHHH ALSO BELLROC'S DESIGN IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES FROM THE WHOLE SERIES (only second to Troll Jim's). I love bi Steve fangirling over Lancelot and crying more over Eli than Aja kansksns. I ADORE DEYA SO MUCHHHHH, HER DYNAMIC WITH JIM IS SO CUTE (and I hate myself for kinda shiping them I'm so sorry)

Favorite character: barbara my beloved

Least Favorite character: i feel like it's almost lazy to say steve but... steve.... weirdly he kinda grew on me but he was still used in extremely annoying ways 9/10 times, so if i cared i would make my own lil pocket version of him that is bearable but alas i do not so he is simply... steve..... i'm also not a huge merlin fan.

5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): stricklake and stricklakerot are rly all i've explored but that reminds me i also wanna look more into barbmura, morgana/gwen, morgana/barbara, and usurna/nomura. honorable 3below mention to zadra/izita and wizards mention to arcane order hell since we're over 5 anyway.

Character I find most attractive: it is SO cowardly of me to say barbara considering the show is also like, monsterfucker central, but... she pretty... and unfortunately a lot of female troll designs kinda suck, and while i love morgana i have issues with her design as well. i do think strickler and angor rot are attractive in theory but i have a very weird sexuality of like, yes i'd love to get railed by them even if it'd kill me, but i don't think i'm "attracted" to them because i'm in a weird zone of being a lesbian but also a monsterfucker and i genuinely do not know how to explain it more than that. so yeah we'll go with barbara bc there is...... idk, something special abt bein into someone kinda plain amidst a world of magical creatures, too? maybe? who knows, thanks for coming 2 my ted talk in this wendy's drive thru

Character I would marry: barbara is going to be my answer for SO much so i'll say nomura for this one because i love the surprise of never knowing if i'm going to get poisoned. usurna is also in that realm.

Character I would be best friends with: hmm maybe blinky because we're both insufferably autistic, but i would probably get annoyed with him fast. i probs would've vibed with eli when i was in high school tho, and aja reminds me of the classic hyperactive adhd weeb girlies i always wanted to get to know better.

a random thought: this is making me realize that after i finished the franchise i forgot literally everything about the show that wasn't barbara-centric

An unpopular opinion: yeah we're not going there <3 the worst i can probably answer with is that while i hate rott, i also do love the delicious angst of watching barb's reaction to strickler dying (esp doing so right after they got engaged) so i am kinda glad it gave me a glimpse into that just...... i do not want to take that or anything else from that film as canon tho lol. i just like having that in my back pocket for when i want a mental breakdown.

Most Epic Villain: man i wish i could say morgana because i love her in theory but in practice i just... don't vibe with a lot of how she was handled. so i'm gonna probs say some kinda tie between angor, strickler, usurna, and nomura because i also don't rly care about gunmar or bular etc (sry mister clancy). arcane order comes to mind but i didn't pay as much attention to them as i should've.

Pairing I am not a fan of: so i don't hate jim and claire but i also don't know why i semi-like them??? i really appreciate a lot of the ways they're portrayed in fanart! esp when toby gets added in. and again i actually don't hate them! i just don't... know why they're together when i actually think about it, and they're also too young for me to rly care to think about that much anyway.

Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): hmm i mean... rott aside i don't know. i guess "draal should have lived" counts here. also my previously mentioned issues with some troll designs, i just think nomura's in particular could've been way better. oh and i had some issues with morgana's whole narrative but i can't remember them. ultimately i think the writers just didn't go into the actually interesting characters' backstories anywhere near enough.

Favourite Friendship: barb and nancy even if it's all in my head <3 also jim and all his new dads

Character I most identify with: barbara, which is probably mostly projection but like... i vibe with trying to balance work and school and childcare responsibilities even if i will never have it as hard as she had jl;sdjfsldkfj. i also love angor rot because yeah i also relate to continually being at the mercy of people who don't have my best interest at heart and wanting nothing more than to have independence from them but having no means of doing so. there's also def something there with changelings x autistic feels with always having a Mask on and being in survival mode.

Character I wish I could be: omg none of them everyone's lives are all nightmares??? BUT probably barbara because being at the center of a monster harem sounds fun

i wanna investigate the rumor that digit supposedly appears in muppetvision 3d. yes i’ve already examined everything that digit appears in and i’m pretty sure no one’s asking about this, but i am looking at this minuscule, potential shred of content like a dog being offered a very small morsel of cheese.

from what i can tell, this rumor originated on the muppet central forum in 2003, in an otherwise fairly down-to-earth post providing some plausible reasons as to why the jim henson company stopped using this character. i will not be linking the user’s profile or showing their username, and i don’t want anyone bothering them over a nearly decade-old post. this rumor has been brought up at least one other time, but overall it doesn’t seem to have caught on.

unfortunately, i can only rely on other people’s recordings of the ride, i don’t have the means to visit muppetvision 3d in person to truly verify/debunk this in person. what doesn’t help is that the 3d effects make things really hard to see when they’re recorded by a camera. but i will say this; after carefully watching a recording of muppetvision 3d and paying close attention to the scene taking place in muppet labs, i can’t see any sign of digit. that’s not to say that i couldn’t have missed something on my viewing, but this (in combination with the fact that i can’t find any mention of this rumor outside of two posts on muppet central) leads me to believe that op was either mistaken, trolling, or just writing some wish-fulfillment.

i do want to take a moment to speculate where this rumor came from in terms of the logic behind it, though. bean bunny and waldo, two other characters from the jim henson hour, are featured prominently in the ride’s story, so i can definitely see the connection there. digit has never (canonically) had any connection to muppet labs, but it does seem like a logical place to put him when muppet central (the location, not the forum) is unavailable. and i admit, being immortalized in a beloved ride the same way as waldo and bean would be a very nice way for digit to go out. but as is? i’m almost certain this isn’t true. and even though i went into this with that mindset, it does kinda make me sad.

Cat-like behaviour

I’m completely convinced that trolls have some feline-like nature, especially since some species have controllable tails.

This means Jim can purr (LOVES head scratches idc fiGHt me), and his pupils dilate when he’s interested in something.

He has a tail and it will act like a cats, sometimes it wags when he’s really excited. He has ears that express emotions as well, like AAARRRGGHH’s do, but they’re a lot more expressive.

Bonus: Toby bought a laser pointer just to fuck with him.

Physical changes

As covered in the saga, he had enhanced speed, agility, and strength. I’m gonna go a little further than that. I imagine his senses would’ve been amplified by a LOT when he first transformed, and would sometimes become overwhelming. Claire or Blinky would have to talk him through these sort of things until he got a hold of himself again. Merlin wouldn’t have been much of a help since he’s an ass.

I bet he would’ve been really overwhelmed, being able to hear and smell things that the typical human ear cannot, and hearing things from farther distances. This came in handy on his trek to New Jersey with Claire, Blinky and the others, in case they got separated somehow (for instance, finding shade and places to hide during the day). This means he can track them through both sound and smell, which is something that took him a while to get a hang of.

Chompers. Big teefs. He can basically bite through anything except for really tough metal and diamond. I’m completely convinced that Claire would just buy entire bagfuls of silverware for him to chew on, its his favourite snack.

Night-vision!! This is a headcanon I have for trolls as a whole, but I imagine they’d have amazing night-vision, stronger than your usual animal that has strong night-vision idk I should do some research.

Behaviour as a whole

He can be really aggressive if needed, and of course it will be amplified if he wears a grit-shaka or inhales gravesand.

A lot more playful!! Since he’s younger, he has more of a childish nature, being 16-17 years old. I imagine any younglings who were traveling with them to New Jersey absolutely loved playing with him. Even before he was transformed, I bet he would often make time to watch them play or play with them (with the armor on.

For like, general shows of affection, I imagine trolls do little head bonks like goats. I imagine Jim doing this with Claire a lot, but a lot more gentle and just with their foreheads, whereas with other trolls it will be more with the top of their head, and their horns will often bonk together. He definitely does it a lot with Blinky (because found family trope) and they just grow even closer through the journey to New Jersey. (inspo for the bonks of affection taken from a post from @nattikay, i am too lazy to scroll through her whole blog to find it I am so Tired™️ (if you see this i love your art hello 🧍))

TENACITY STRONG, and other things I’ve learned about myself being psychologically abused on Twitter

The first time someone told me to stay away from banisters I was three years into covering the Great Information War, which at the time I called TrumpRussia.

I was on the phone with a vital scholar who had done the first big money expose linking the GOP to Russia.

I was quiet. I thought about the death of Scott Christianson, an investigative reporter who co-authored the first big Robert Mercer expose for McClatchy.

I had been inquiring about Mercer, peering down rabbit holes and noting all the curious links to Russia. My source agreed with me that the SEC should do a better job of scrutinizing hedge funds.

I hung up the phone and glanced around my place. There was a sketchy banister out the back door that I rarely used, and the likelihood of defenestration from a second story walk-up was negligible.

I knew the first time I pressed “send” on the very first post I wrote about Donald Trump and his history of corruption that I was willing to die for my country. I knew we were in dire straits, and being German-American, silence was not an option for me. I had a duty to warn.

Besides, everything had already been taken from me the prior year—my mental health, my relationship, my home. I worked on a campaign to take out Dana Rohrabacher, and the corrupt money behind him had made their own plans. I had been a very loud member of the independent media for two years, and when I signed up to work with a Muslim American candidate to remove Rohrabacher, coordinated online and offline harms resulted in a kablooey of my life. In an information war, there are no rear areas.

It got very dark, and I had no framework for what was happening to me.

But I didn’t stop. I just got louder. I kept writing, threading, reporting. I sought help. The online and offline harms had depleted my emotional sobriety, and I found rooms where people nurtured my soul. In one those rooms, a gentleman in recovery who I was sitting next to, who had made his way there in a white van with a group of other men, slipped me a note.

He wrote me a poem of strength and courage and told me to say I’m “tenacity strong.” He misspelled tenacity and my name, but that was not the point. I gripped that note paper and thanked him.

It took some time, but I got well. As I come under continual heavy toxic fire by suicide trolls trying to hurt my friend Jim, I have a program that helps me deal with it. I hope they get well soon.

I now call the best minds of our times my friends. I have been interviewing the most brilliant people in the fight for truth regularly now for years, and they are targeted by hate accounts as well. I’m not special. We endure as a truth tribe, focused on the work and the fight ahead. I’m glad Japan is now jailing trolls. Consequences for those who psychologically torment people—whether for sport of profit—is long overdue.

One of my most beloved sources has been signing off lately by asking me to stay safe. He recently sent me a message to make sure I don’t let my drinks out of sight when I’m out.

Lucky me, I don’t drink.

Homemade shawarma bowls. chicken, potatoes, cucumber, tomato, rice, and a garlicky sauce for YUMMYYYYY bowls!! you can also add homemade hummus for a snazzy addition if you're feeling it (you could make this vegan if you use chickpeas instead of chicken and use hummus instead of the garlic sauce!! super easy switch :) )

Panera sandwich dupe 💅 apple slices, arugula, turkey, swiss, spicy mayo, and a lemon oil dressing on the arugula. toast that shid. delicious.

dream trip - I think a visit to the mediterranean sea could be really educational and rich in history. I've always wanted to try Moroccan foods, see Graecian ruins, walk Roman streets, walk the nile, see the architecture of Turkey.
