Made a bit of my own version of Toby's armor, procrastinated a lot, made some mistakes and had to fix a lot of things so it took me 2 years to finish everything 😂

The two halves (jaw and skull) of the Strickler sculpt have been combined. I have a plaster cast of each piece individually to use as an under-mask bone structure.

I’m going to add ears onto this sculpt if I have enough clay, and then he will be ready for casting a mold. I’ll be using cheap craft Plaster of Paris for this mold so it’s not likely to hold a lot of detail and I’ll only be able to make one latex cast from it.

Hopefully it’ll work well enough for the mask to be recognisable!

Phoenix Fan Fusion - Day 1

Friday was quite an interesting day for me! It was my first time back in my old hometown since December and honestly.. I was expecting way worse temperatures then we ended up getting.

I went as Emesis Blue!Scout for the first day! Most people understood it was Scout, but not many recognized it as Emesis Blue Scout.

I met some TF2 cosplayers, mainly just cisgender dudes who didn't want to talk to me though. Thank you to the BLU Scout who didn't turn me away!!

I saw a variety of cosplays this year! It never felt like I was seeing one character cosplayed too often. I saw some Shaun of the Dead cosplayers, Ruby from RWBY, Snufkin from the Moomins, some characters from Pizza Tower, and even Claire from Trollhunters!

I ended my evening with the Dragstravaganza! Quite the diverse show too!! Not only did they have your classic drag queens and kings, they had transgender men, transgender women, and non-binary folks! Shout out to the trans guy who showed off his top surgery scars in a Pyramidhead cosplay!

I was exhausted around the end. But there was so much more to come!

- DRAAL AND KANJIGAR REUNITED IN THE VOID IT MAKES ME CRY

- SIR BARKS A LOT for one book Jim had a kinda pet wolf puppy who is the most adorable thing

- the moonlight armor, it was brief but SO COOL like give me more Troll Jim with a long bow and armored wolf companion

- Rob. the friend/betrayer/enigma fireball dude from the darklands. absolutely wild

- all the stuff from Arcadia-Con. give me fanart of Aja in the Sally Go Back cosplay because she slayed

- Barbara Lake being an absolute badass. we got a bit of it in the show but I need more of her book energy. Let her jump Merlin and beat him up. Drag him by the beard more.

- Jim mid transforming from human to troll, I feel like there’s some body horror opportunities there. Also let him have a lisp for longer. Gimme werewolf jokes.

- BABY DRAAL. AND BALLUSTRA. AND KANJIGAR. THEY WERE A WHOLE FAMILY FOR A BRIEF TIME.

- more Kanjigar and Jim interactions. They can talk in the void. They can hug.

So I finally watched Over the Garden Wall. I had been wanting to watch it for a while and I'm glad I did. It's been a while since I last saw something like that: great storytelling, art and characters (maybe since Trollhunters?). However...

I made the mistake of watching it in batches of three (four on the last day). So my second day ended up with Wirt discovering that Beatrice had betrayed them.

Just like ATLA, I first found out about OTGW thanks to cosplay and, more especifically, the gallery of Arda Wigs:

Of course, that being my first contact with OTGW, I supposed those two characters were a couple... add that to the fact that I'm a hopeless romantic and I have an awful lot of imagination.

So my writer side started making up how the story was going to continue. And I created this whole story in my head about how Wirt's secret love was actually Beatrice but he didn't even know her name.

Fast forward the next day and, instead of them continuing where they left with Beatrice, I have to sit through a Cloudy Silly Symphony with floating baby heads.

I was disappointed.

And then, Wirt starts blushing with this new girl.

And then, it turns out that there was yet another girl this whole time.

And then, Wirt and Beatrice say goodbye in a sad way.

So I went through a small heartbreak (my heart is feeling quite soft lately).

However, now that I can see the series as a whole... I still like them. "Greg in Slumberland" makes more sense once you can understand the themes and the story structure... even though it can be a little unnerving to know there aren't many episodes left and they use a whole one for that.

Do I still ship them? I don't know. I'm not sure. Thinking about it, maybe Wirt's relationship with both Lorna and Beatrice (romantically speaking) could be him growing up and not being as close to his brother as he was before. He is clearly shown feeling something towards Lorna and I'd like to think that he has feelings for Beatrice but is not sure of what kind, while Beatrice does like him (or ends up liking him after spending some time together). The series only showed us that he really likes Sara and she likes him back. I just didn't like Sara much because she wasn't as developed as Beatrice, but she seems sweet and caring and, even though Wirt talks a lot about her, romance was never the main focus of the series. And that's not a bad thing.

I still had to draw my idea, though.

Finally did the plaster cast for my Strickler mask base. And claws! I ran out of plaster bandages so I had to hit pause on the other pieces I wanted to finish today.

It’s fine; I’ve ordered more along with body paint and some cheaper/less accurate contact lenses than I was looking at before.

I’ll peel these casts from their sculpts tomorrow to see how well it all worked out. +\- sanding
