It was the early morning on May 7, 2007 – just after 4:00 a.m. – and 27-year-old Willebaldo Dorantes Antonio had just clocked out from his job as a vendor at Nathan’s Famous hot dogs in the food court of the Egyptian-themed pyramid-shaped Luxor hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip. Accompanying him was his new girlfriend, Caren Chali, who also worked at the Luxor.

The couple made their way to the top of the two-story parking garage behind the Luxor where Dorantes Antonio had parked his car. The young hot dog stand vendor noticed a coffee cup on top of his vehicle. Dorantes Antonio lifted the 24-ounce 7-11 Styrofoam coffee cup from the roof.

An explosion ripped through the night air.

Dorantes Antonio didn’t know – and would have no reason to have suspected – that within the coffee cup was a motion-activated pipe bomb. The explosive device mortally wounded Dorantes Antonio and sent shrapnel throughout the top floor of the garage, the jagged metal piercing other nearby vehicles.

Miraculously, Chali was uninjured by the bomb despite being only feet from the blast.

This was only a few years after 9/11, and national news media immediately speculated that the bombing was the result of a terrorist attack. But within hours, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department detectives determined that the murder of Dorantes Antonio was not the result of an international terrorist cell but instead stemmed from what local news media dubbed a “jilted lover” seeking revenge.

im so srs but true crime fans annoy me so fucking much like. a lot ! i cant even be polite abt it, someone tries to ask if i've listened/watched the latest podcast tv show movie whatever and i shut tht down immediately. like i do not caaare abt how u want to ~understand the mind of a killer~ i don't care tht u think ur so quirky and unique for not being disturbed by graphic descriptions of death i don't care!!! the blatant disregard for the victims and their loved ones so u can parade around their killers like theyre ur problematic fav on a tv show irks me to no end like ooohhhhh u have such an interest in the macabre and u love listening to podcasts of white women giggling over wine while discussing the gruesome details of people getting brutally murdered. shld we get the fbi in here i bet theyd love to hear ur dumbass theories abt what happened. god.

HE SAVED HER. too bad. #she doesn’t care anymore bc everyone she really loved is dead. dying a pawn and yet the powerful man in westeros. #letting the narrative consume him alive after sunfyre is injured and finds him on dragonstone. he knows he’s doomed when he goes up against #baela. he does it because what else do you do. you’ve gone too far. killed too many. you killed your sister’s children and she killed yours #in return and now you can’t go back. no choice but mutually assured destruction with the only woman who ever saw how dangerous he was and #how desperate for loce he was. once upon a time. he was a baby bouncing in his sister’s lap on the throne. and she was beautiful and tall #and soft and smart and she told him he was beautiful and loved and pointed out every name and held him the way a mother does. #it has to end there. if the narrative eats me and sunfyre alive it has to eat her too. he won’t go down without her. #getting on my soap box #aegon the usurper
