OKAY SO it's still percolating it's still cooking & @mamawasatesttube is responsible for a lot of it BUT as for Kon specifically... man... obviously Cadmus (and later Lex) have his coat in the early days. but he doesn't actually even really KNOW how messed up that is bc he's a kid and no one told him!!! he doesn't understand that that's his basic personhood and it belongs to him. he knows almost nothing about his selkie heritage or what it means, and so he doesn't know why he feels miserable and discontent and can't stay away for very long and is just kind of sickly ☹️ and ofc when Clark eventually realizes what's going on he is capital H Horrified and immediately tries to help him get it back. but it's a process and it's a very bitter and traumatic thing for Kon to realize how deeply he was being manipulated (very analogous to canon in that regard).

and for Kon's jacket being a bit patchwork - selkie coats are essentially an outwards extension of the soul! they're very unique and personally individualized, and can be both altered and damaged by painful relationships with that part of their identity (or just physical trauma). some of the threadwork on Kon's jacket is work done to repair damage from the neglect/abuse of his coat by Cadmus, and some of it is Kon trying to make it his own! Selkie coats are magical which makes them somewhat fluid :)

#but the clois in selkie au goes CRAZY they have this big beautiful slowburn romance where Lois is slowly working out what he is #and why he's so guarded..... and the sacred trust that it is the first time Clark hangs his coat in her closet #or drapes it across the back of his chair at her dining room table..... the first few times that Lois actually wears his coat #clark definitely walks into a doorframe at least twice and is as red as a tomato. "Are you sure?" Agni –the new name Khun had decided on– asked him.

Grace had been giving it some thought ever since Agni asked him what he wanted for his younger self. As much as he wanted to shield Bam from the tower's shadow, he knew it'd be impossible. Bam would still have to kill to climb the tower and to protect his friends, and if leaving him to FUG could give him the power and experience he needed to survive, Grace thought it was a necessary sacrifice. "Yes. I'm sure."

"If you say so…"

"He will be fine, Khun. Because I will be there for him."

Agni hummed as if he had expected this outcome, "So you'll also join FUG?"

"Yes," Grace confirmed. "Besides, I still want to call my Master as Master."

Agni snorted; it was as good as a hearty laugh. "Then count me in, will you?"

"You'll also join FUG?"

"Depends on their terms of agreement, but I'll aim for it."

"Okay. What should I do, then?"

"Arrange a private meeting with Hansung Yu. Let me talk with that bastard on our behalf," Agni gave a tired sigh, which Grace learned that Agni did whenever he found something troublesome. "On second thought…maybe seek out Hwaryun first. See what she has to say."

Grace gave a saluting motion toward his pocket, grinning to himself. "Got it, Mr. Lightbearer."

when it comes to people who acknowledge and love all sides of jiang xuening, shen zhiyi cannot be forgotten.

yes, dianxia does have a bit of a lovesick filter on when it comes to her beloved ningning, but she also knows who jiang xuening is as a person. she isn’t so blind as to casually miss her fierce temper, ignore her schemes and manipulation, and disregard her poor choices— you can see it in shen zhiyi’s expressions and tone, the concerns she voices, and particularly through her perspective in the novel— but these things could never make her love jiang xuening any less.

shen zhiyi isn’t oblivious. she knows that jiang xuening uses her at times to get what she wants, but what’s important is that she doesn’t care. she never has and she never will, because everything she does is her choice. she only wants jiang xuening to know that she doesn’t have to do anything at all to get her support, because she will always be there by her side, without any conditions attached.

there is no doubt that jiang xuening is the person she trusts most in the world. even if jiang xuening makes a decision she doesn’t particularly agree with, she will still never raise any complaint to her. shen zhiyi trusts that jiang xuening’s judgment and choices are right for herself, even if they’re not right to her, and it’s as simple as that. if there are any consequences, she will be there to resolve them. jiang xuening couldn’t lose her if she tried.

shen zhiyi and xie wei are the only two characters in kunning who see past all of jiang xuening’s sides, good and bad, and still recognize her true heart. the way they love her is different but also the same; if shen zhiyi is her shield, then xie wei is her sword.

and jiang xuening chooses them both.

It's so unsettling to see Mina's transformation get stronger and stronger the more her and Van Helsing approach to Dracula's castle. It gives the perfect balance of "what if..." to the situation, one that it's too dreadful because it seems that they are running out of time.

The weather being absolutely cold, everything covered in a thick layer of snow to the point that every three looks the same, not a single remain of civilization in sight, just Van Helsing, Mina, and the horses. It's truly a chilling picture for Van Helsing to write a possible final letter to Jack, a final goodbye. I wonder if he writing it because of the upcoming danger that is the castle... Or because of Mina.

Mina's changes as they approach the castle are truly creepy (I never thought I would use that word to describe Mina). She sleeps all day, so deeply that Van Helsing worries about her. Then Mina wakes up and she is so charming, cheerful, helpful, thoughtful, and don't worry she already ate before you woke up professor (she didn't), she doesn't eat at all yet looks so healthy and redder. The hypnosis doesn't work yet Mina knows where to go (she read it in her darling's journal).

Van Helsing eats alone in the cold dark as Mina sleeps, with only her company by the fire. He knows what is happening, he exactly knows what is happening to Mina, but he doesn't say it. As if Van Helsing thinks if he even aludes to it then it is true, that Mina is turning faster into a vampire. Those bright eyes, all open and alert, are watching him eat in the middle of the night. Van Helsing's fear is justified, yet his duty and promise to Mina is stronger than that, he promised to her that he will do everything to save her, and he is a man of his word.

After all, there is nothing that Van Helsing can do, there is nothing that Mina can do. They must move foward to the castle, they cannot stop to think about these changes, if they do, who knows when are they coming back?
