I feel like a lot of us are known as “the taylor swift kid/fan/person(/whatever word you like)” and we know we have that affect that when people think Taylor Swift, they think of us.

Karma MV Analysis

Like a lot of people I was watching TN's Insta livestream really excited to watch the premiere before the stream ended and I was left staring at my phone. But the music video came out like an hour after that stream so it didn't matter in the end.

Anyway, I really like this music video and it has a lot of easter eggs so it's time to see if Taylor's been hinting at things three years in advance.

The video opens with a moonstone blue Midnights vinyl from which pink and blue glitter and butterflies fly out of. This can be a callback to the ME! music video where the snake representing Reputation turned into a kaleidoscope of butterflies (kaleidoscope was also theorised to be the title of TS7). This can represent the Midnights era coming to an end through an old way of showing transitions between eras.

The next scene shows Taylor portraying the Greek goddess of justice Themis (mythology is a major theme in this video so that's fun). I've seen a lot of people say that these Roman numerals at the bottom of her statue translate to 1989 but my own research (I say research very lightly) doesn't come to the same conclusion, I guess this is something you can have your own opinions on.

We then see Taylor wearing a devil mask in what looks like the Underworld. When she takes off the mask we see she's wearing a very Reputation inspired look with black lipstick and the hairstyle of that era.

After that, she takes inspiration from The Wizard of Oz by walking down a yellow brick road wearing red shoes, acting as Dorothy in a children's fairytale book. This is the first of a few fairytale references, the second being Taylor lying on top of a giant cat in a blue dress, potentially referencing Alice in Wonderland. Three Grim Reapers dressed in red flip her off and she blows lavender dust at them which transitions to the next scene.

Next we see Taylor sitting in both sides of an hourglass with lavender coloured sand running into the bottom half. This could represent the time in the Midnights era running out and being replaced with Speak Now TV.

There's also a link to the Blank Space music video here with the hourglass briefly turning into a sunglasses shape for Taylor, hinting that 1989 TV will be next.

Then we see Ice Spice sitting on a clam shell in the middle of the ocean holding pink pearls. This might be a reference to the birth of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty who rose from the ocean on a shell.

Taylor lights up one, then three, then five lightbulbs while dressed in gold. This could be a reference to the golden cage scene in LWYMMD (as well as a hint to SNTV and 1989 TV).

The next scene is probably a link to the line “Love you to the moon and to Saturn” which is from seven. I don’t think this has any more of a meaning beyond Taylor and Ice are really good friends. Maybe if you wanted to make a reach you could say this represents Taylor owning her albums produced from 2019 onwards because she’s holding the lyrics from folklore on a leash? What you can be sure about is Taylor and Ice’s zodiac signs in the starry background, you can’t really expect Taylor to not be an astrology girlie at this point.

The thumbnail showing Taylor and Ice sailing a pink boat down a pink river could be inspired by Egyptian mythology. Correct me if I’m wrong but the west bank of the Nile River is associated with the underworld and death, funeral barges and other ships would often sail across the river to represent the sun’s arc across the sky (explaining why the sun is setting in this scene). Maybe Taylor wanted another way of saying she comes back from the dead.

Finally, we have the coffee cup.

There are a few things to unpack here:

- Taylor’s nails are painted blue and then black, possible hinting at 1989 TV and then Reputation TV

- the Roman numeral for 4 isn’t “IIII” it’s “IV”

- the clock is nearly at midnight

Then Taylor sets the coffee cup down on what looks like the piano in the room used for the Midnights photoshoots and the clock strikes twelve, midnight on the dot. This representing the end of Midnights and the beginning of new music.

Dont get me wrong ....I was frustrated and annoyed by jaewoos popularity so that I decided to do a quick research on woo's ships in 127....here is my theory...correct me as I knw I could be wrong....

When woo included in nct he was went with the concept of mark's soulmate??..may be sm was testing the water I understand...even in the radish pulling game episode where do jae and woo being asked questions about mark woo couldn't answer it properly..it I can say that mark and woo is close but their shipping didnt work...I think domark is still popular than woomark....sm didnt even try to ship woo with haechan I think....they can make a content funny but shipping didnt work...with taeil they did everything they can but didnt get the popularity they wanted...and yuta had a crush on woo and they did the shipping things but still yuta most of the all time prefer mark as his bf....and johnny I dont knw how they worked....i didnt even heard anything about johnny and woo I dont even knw their ship name...sorry....but u can add if u are aware of anything I didnt include here....ok....and with dy we all knw....so take ty...they were awkward first...but the ice is melting now...woo is the only person who visited ty in his solo mv shooting...and they talking about each other now....so I really hope their ship get the all popularity so jaedo could have their moment.....

Lastly jae....just put aside the fact that it is the only ship jae prefer to do infront of fans and camera only becoz he dont hate woo and also comfortable to annoy woo in public too....woo is not all that innocent for him it is the only ship that is very popular for now....so he does everything to go smoothly with this ship...so they both annoy each other...the problem with woo is that he is not effortlessly funny....he needs to make effort to be funny...if he is not funny he wont be seen in their vedeos...he is kinda moody person as far as I knw. ..so he cant work on both shipping and make fun all the time...and jae have no problem in make their ship float well...so in jaewoo woo can both do shipping and make fun for their group too....he dont have to make all the effort coz jae is helping him too.....

Hm. SM, without a doubt, uses shipping on earlier stages. We can see it currently with Riize ("Memories" MV) and Lastart (the way Yusion is portrayed and promoted). Neo City tour had bl fanservice.

That being said, Jungwoo used shipping so much himself, and very openly so, that it is hard to say where it was primarly his initiative with different members (and SM used the footage) and where it was by the management's design. SM tried different MC combinations (IlWoo, MarkWoo, DoWoo, JohnWoo), but I don't remember a special accent on LuWoo (and the ship was a super popular ship back in the day).

WooMark was a thing. They did vlives together, 24h relays.

The members understand shipping, and use it for entertainment as well (YuMark is the most blatant example). As you correctly pointed it out, it's not just for the purpose of being liked as a (bl) ship, but mainly as an easy to-go-to entertainment tactic. Fans like cuddles and interactions. Most fans don't ship seriously (as in really believe there is something), they just pretend. How many times Woo used "(to Yuta) Liii-oon" joke? Yuta can just hug Mark, and some footage to include into group content is ready.

Anyway. I don't think JaeWoo will disappear anytime soon. Not as long as DJJ exists. What we can wish for is for JaeDo to start to get their two-men content/gigs again. Woo is popular enough to be sent alone on shows nowadays, he doesn't need DoWoo anymore as much.

Woo is absent from ts7 unit, so let's look forward to Baggy jeans are, it should bring us something. Jaehyun gets more attention seeking when his rival Tae is in the vicinity.

So before we knew that TS7 was called Lover, we had so many theories from the Easter Eggs in the Me! Music video. We knew the album was long. And we knew Me! Was on it. And that's it.

So for promo. She did the 30 things I learned before 30 and the Entertainment Weekly article which were filled with Easter Eggs. She also released me merch that had No. 1 on it. So we thought maybe there is a No. 2! One side of the album is Me! And the other side is You!

Ay-Yo: MV

Minuses first:

Camerawork. Mostly absent clear focus on the faces and badly captured dance.

The dance wasn't polished in time of the shooting of the MV.

Evidently low budget. (Which is usual for a repack A-side form SM).

Pluses:

Despite the last minute production, the scenario itself was well thought out. There is lore and there are many memorable scenes. Levitating Yuta takes the cake (it's should be his power as he levitated rocks in Limitless).

Fresh looks. I especially liked the jump with Taeyong. For a long time 127 has been stuck in that clean-cut pretty phase, some punk is thus appreciated. It is that element of surprise that is anticipated from a comeback.

JaeDo paired vocally and visually.

Evident lore elements.

I really like "the moon" with "magnetic fields"

The sound dominates the visual part, and the focus is not very clear, thus the overall feeling is that of a hazy semi-dream before awakening. A half-comprehensible dream, when there is no proper storyline or a defined emotion, but enough of confusion. So yeah, I'll call it "haze".

A bit of lore that I can catch without much thinking:

127 entered a dream. The MV starts with Mark in an elevator. Red colours, but blue clothes. 127 are in control of the dream.

I wonder about the neck chains. It has been a long lasting accessory.

The black tunnel should be a visual reference to James Bond movies, but also it's a tunnel (the visible grid of the matrix).

Jaehyun reminds me of Lucas (a bit of here as well). The suit. The corporate man. Lucas, Jaehyun and Jungwoo make a trio. Presumably they can shift levels. The Lab -> Dream realm.

127 should be coming for Black Mamba. Chains might represent the venom (they were in an illusion caused by the snake's venom in Favorite, in a dream they didn't realise was a dream, and which they didn't want to leave), but they broke free or are in the process off.

Johnny and Yuta were lost in the dream reality (the endless mirrors like Lucas had in his trailer and Doyoung in ts7). Jungwoo shifted to their dream-level to help, the glass was shuttered, so neos escaped.

Taeyong has a plan.

Purple and Pink are aespa colours. Magical alien plants is their realm (Flat?). Jaehyun is a hacker. He opens DoWoo's scene like he has finished the hacking process.

Looks like Woo transported Do to aespa's place, because later Do is alone.

After the head of the information security named Doyoung, Mark and Tae, Johnny enter as well (the black tunnel). In Favorite Doyoung (with the help of Woo) was also the first to go.

I guess Taeyong "rotating" the space with the glass walls means 127 are now in control of this dream/illusion.

Levitation is Yuta's power. He hasn't used it for anything yet, but we've seen objects flying around in him in a few MVs.

Jaehyun left the chat with "my job here is done", lol. In his message in the album (? or Lysn?) Jaehyun greeted the fans with "I'm Black rabbit year Jaehyun". It is the year of Black Rabbit, but there is also a hacker group called "Black rabbit world". I guess his black bunny ears is a nod to that.
