Weekly The Television, No. 47 (2002) "Super New Heroes, 7 Consecutive Shots" ft. Various Toku Alumni Short Interviews (translations below)
Publication: November 11, 2002 _
"Passion hidden within his cool gaze" Tetsuji Tamayama (GaoSilver)
"Whether it's TV dramas, movies, or photo books, Tetsuji Tamayama has become very popular. He is currently starring in "Bara no Jujika," playing the role of Kyosuke, a CM director who becomes popular after switching positions with his nephew, Togo. It's a difficult role for him, as he becomes troubled by his secret love for Sumiko, who is Togo's wife."
Tamayama: I'd like to express the depravity of humans when their position and situations change dramatically. I hope I can play out the relationship between Kyosuke and Togo in a way that men can sympathize with.
"In the film "Koi ni Utaeba," he plays the role of Satoru, the ex-boyfriend of Yumi, played by popular actress Yuka."
Tamayama: Everyone, including Takenaka Naoto-san, play such bizarre characters (laughs). I think I might be the only one playing a serious role. However, I wouldn't mind if I could act strangely too.
"Despite your smart appearance, your true colors are often showing."
Tamayama: I don't know if I'm impatient, or just not good at things. Like for example, traveling a long distance just to eat a meal. I'd rather go to a normal restaurant where everything is ready in 15 minutes, than to an Izakaya where the food comes out slowly. I don't want to spend time in places that I think are a wastes of time.
"He's also passionate about acting"
Tamayama: I want to be recognized as an actor. I'd like to challenge myself with a period drama if the opportunity ever arises. Like in Gaoranger, I'd like to experience that kind of world without any prior experience, like the Edo period or the Warring States period.
_
"A hot and reliable brotherly figure." Noboru Kaneko (GaoRed)
Kaneko: I try to add alot of variety to my performance, as to make sure I don't get bored.
"Noboru Kaneko-san said, describing the joys of acting in a lively manner. Since staring in Gaoranger, he has appeared in multiple dramas and variety shows. He's currently playing a detective in "You're Under Arrest."
Kaneko: I'm alittle worried if I have "the right look." At first, I wanted to portray my character as more of an obnoxious detective, but he's already become such a nice guy (laughs).
"With 7 years of experience as a tennis instructor, he's both athletic and versatile."
Kaneko: People always tell me that I "look like I work out," but I only do push ups at home, and only when I remember to. I'm not a member of any gym, but I sometimes go to my local ward's gym for 400 yen at a time (laughs).
"Fitness seems to be second nature to you."
Kaneko: When I play sports, the first thing I do is image training. I'll picture jumping over the vaulting box or hitting a ball successfully. Image training has also helped me with my acting.
"One of his strengths, is that he can apply his sense of sports into what he plays."
Kaneko: I want to be an actor with a unique style. I don't care if I don't play the leading role, I just want to be the one who will be the most "memorable" after the show ends.
_
"He's cute enough to want to keep to yourself" Taiyo Sugiura (Ultraman Cosmos)
"Taiyo Sugiura says his role as Musashi in Ultraman Cosmos was his starting point. Recently, he's been appearing on variety shows, including "Midnight Sentai Garinpero" where he serves as one of its MC's. He is active in a variety of works, and is scheduled to make his CD debut next month with his younger brother as a sibling unit."
Sugiura: At first, I didn't think variety was for me, but once you try it, it's alot of fun. I was so happy when I got together with Downtown for the first time on their show "Downtown DX" (laugh). Garinpero is a live show, so I think how it works is that the first person to speak up wins. When speaking live, I use Kansai dialect, because it's easier for me to speak normally than standard Japanese. After this program, I'd like to one day star in a drama with my co-hosts Toshiki Kashu-kun (Agito) and Shioya Shun-kun (HurricaneRed). And then there's the "Winter Special Event: Hot Springs Tour with Everyone" program. Maybe…it'd be alright to just enjoy by myself!?
"Next year, he'll try his hand with theater for the first time."
Sugiura: I came into this world aspiring to become an actor, so I think doing various works will lead me to becoming a successful one. In the future, I'd like to act in movies and play a variety of roles, including cool ones.
_
"A refreshingly beautiful man with pure eyes." Toshiki Kashu (Kamen Rider Agito)
"Toshiki Kashu-san is set to be an MC for the variety program "Midnight Sentai Garinpero." We can expect to see a different side of him compared to the heroic role he played in "Kamen Rider Agito," which was his breakthrough role."
Kashu: I can learn a lot of things that I have never experienced before, such as presenting in a studio and reporting on location. I used to stay away from anything that I didn't have any interest in. But things have started to change since I became an actor. It's a way of expanding my own world, so I'm looking forward to this program.
"As an actor, he says he is, "not the most distinctive."
Kashu: On the contrary, I've come to think it's probably better that way. I don't want to simply be, "Toshiki Kashyu playing any role," I want to be an actor who can be absorbed into the role. So for now, as I gain experience through various works, and depend on my own talents, one day I'd like to develop my own style. I want to become an actor who can wear any color, carrying around paints of various colors, while always remaining pure white.
"And with that, he showes his determination."
_
"An "active rider" with a beautiful figure that is a sight to behold!" Takamasa Suga (Kamen Rider Ryuki)
Suga: After being accepted for the role, I told my father, whose response was, "I won't be able to see your face when you become Ryuki!," it was an incredible misunderstanding (laughs).
"Takamasa Suga-kun said. Currently starring in Kamen Rider Ryuki, he looks back on the days when he passed the audition with a nostalgic feeling."
Suga: From the start of filming up until now, things have gone by quick. In the beginning, I would go to the production site, then go home, sleep, and repeat that process every day. I wouldn't even pay attention to what was going on in the world, so I sometimes felt like a recluse. Some have said that the production site of Ryuki is like an all boys school. So from now on, I'm saying, "Let's do training camps and drink for days!" (laughs).
"If we were to compare his co-star, Satoshi Matsuda-kun, to an animal, he says, "A fox! That guy, he's very sharp and smart in almost every way." Suga-kun is also a good looking young man who speaks politely, but what type of woman does he like?
Suga: I'm…actually a really sloppy guy. I get my meals from convenience stores, and my room is always a mess. That's why I'd like to find a firm but caring woman.
"He's also a Kabuki enthusiast."
Suga: I've always loved it, and recently, I've been taking out books to study it more. It's precisely because Kabuki is so difficult that I'm fascinated by it. I hope I can reflect the feeling of Kabuki into my acting.
_
"A handsome face and smooth voice." Matsuda Satoshi (Kamen Rider Knight)
Matsuda: I'm actually 100 times more cheerful than Ren. When I'm on set, I act like an idiot and am always saying nonsense.
"Satoshi Matsuda-kun said while laughing, he plays the cool Akiyama Ren in Kamen Rider Ryuki. Both his co-stars and he himself admits that he's a lively mood maker. Comparing himself to his co-star Takamasa Suga-kun, he said, "I think we're like cat and dog." He explains, "Sugacchi, who is a very sweet person that is often spoiled, is a dog. I'm a cat because I tend to do things at my own pace."
Matsuda: I like black bass fishing, and on good days, I'll swing about 1,000 casts. During the middle of Winter, I once fished with snow building up on my head. While I'm fishing, I usually call a friend when I have a random though. "What are you up to? Ah, sorry, you see I'm catching fish right now and…" and that's when they'll hang up (laughs).
"At what moment did you feel glad that you became an actor?"
Matsuda: During the filming of the scene where I die in the TV Special, me, Sugacchi, and the rest of the staff were so overwhelmed, that we all started crying. In that moment, I experienced a feeling of unity and joy that I don't think I could experience anywhere else. In the future, I hope to develop a masculine style and atmosphere like that of Takakura Ken-san (famous Showa era actor).
_
"A gentle, healing "man" full of kindness" Masashi Goda (OhBlue)
With a gentle smile, the charming Masashi Goda-san is currently starring in the drama "Bara no Jujika," passionately playing the role of Junya, a young man who is in love with Aki, a single mother.
Goda: Junya is ready to say to Aki, "I'll take care of you, along with your child," but he really struggles to say it, doesn't he? Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong if the person you love already has children.
"Goda-sans true colors, which seem to overlap with Junya's, is an image that would warmly embrace any woman. When on the set, he's always there to play with the child actors."
Goda: However, if I spoil them too much, they'll say the names of card games and other things I don't know of (laughs). In the past, when I was on location for Ohranger, there was usually a large gathering of children, and as a hero, I couldn't be seen as a bad guy (laughs). I love children, so I'm comfortable playing this role.
"Behind his soft gaze, he reveals his passion for acting."
Goda: Actually, it's not so much "I'd like to play this kind of role," it's more about how much I can expand the role I'm asked to play. That's what I'm more interested in.
"With that, we felt the charm of an adult man in the expression on his face, as he spoke of his sincere thoughts.

Riders react to Tendo Souji (Kabuto) and Shoichi Tsugami (Agito) teaching Houtaro how to cook on hand.
Tendo: My techniques. Shoichi: And cooking from the heart. Them: With both... you shall cook amazing dishes on your own. Houtaro: *nods like a good little boy* Praises from my senpai's...
I guess they hope that the lessons would help Houtaro improve, or at least encourage him to experiment less when he isn't sure about what he's doing

either hikawa is the most oblivious man on earth or the entirety of agito is actually a tabletop rpg and he’s just consistently rolling nat 1s on his perception checks. how do you pull up next to shouichi as he’s wearing the belt and literally in the middle of shouting “henshin”, the same thing kino and ashihara both do to transform into their agito-like forms, and just go “hey man be careful you’re goin’ a bit fast”.

putting in a request for shouichi and hikawa, 19 (maybe with some angst inflicted on hikawa right before)
Hm. 19 is a forceful kiss, and I feel like that's a bit tricky for these two, although it certainly suits Hikawa's tendency to be Slightly Too Much. I will do my best!
Shouichi hears the knocking just as he's checking on his cassoulet, but when he gets to the door he doesn't see anyone on the doorstep--that is, until he looks down, and then he says, "Hikawa, why are you sitting on the what happened?"
Hikawa sighs and stands up from the front step. "Guy I was arresting punched me in the face."
"Well, why'd you let him do something like that? Come inside, come on, I'll get you an ice pack. They really should have given you one before."
"We were a little preoccupied, it's not like it's a serious injury. Honestly, I didn't think he'd be able to reach, I'm a lot taller than most people." In the doorway, Hikawa hops on one foot and then the other, removing his shoes, and nearly stumbles, gripping the door frame slightly too hard--Shouichi can see his knuckles going white. "Better me than his girlfriend again, anyway."
Shouichi taps his nose with one finger. "Your face isn't that hard to reach, you know, tall or not. I thought you didn't do domestic violence."
"I don't, he robbed a jewelry store, it just turned out he'd also been hitting his girlfriend."
"Mm."
Five minutes, and Hikawa's sitting on the couch with an ice pack on his black eye and a glass of water waiting on the table, and he leans back and tips his head back and sighs. "I hope you don't mind my dropping by unexpectedly, I just got out of the precinct and really didn't want to go back to my apartment."
"Fair enough!" Shouichi grins at him, even knowing he can really only see out of the one eye right now. "You want to stay and have dinner with me? I'm making cassoulet, it's been going all day."
"I...don't know what that is."
"French food! Stew with beans and chicken and sausage. It's good for cold weather, I figure it's chilly enough out now."
"That would be really nice, thank you."
"All right, wonderful! It'll be nice having company for dinner, it's been weird living all by myself after all that time with Professor Misugi and Taichi and Mana, and anyway there's way too much for just me but I really wanted to try the recipe. Probably too much for two, even. It'll be ready soon."
They lapse into an awkward silence, Hikawa holding the ice pack to his eye and Shouichi drinking water, no sound but faint bubbling from the kitchen and a bird singing near the window.
And then, abruptly, at the same time:
"So how have you--"
"What made you want to--"
Laughter, and then Shouichi nods encouragingly and Hikawa says, "So how have you been? I feel like we haven't talked much recently."
Shouichi grins at him. "I have been pretty busy with the restaurant, you're lucky you caught me here. Good! It's strange living by myself, like I was saying, but I don't mind it. We've started offering some delivery, Ryou's been helping me find a couple of drivers."
"You know, he mentioned that the other day, I ran into him." Hikawa pauses, and then says, "You also started saying something."
"Well, yeah, so, what made you want to come here? If you didn't just want to go home. I mean, I'm flattered, but you could have just gone to a bar or something." Shouichi eyes him for a moment and then says, slyly, "You were hoping for a free dinner, weren't you?"
Hikawa turns bright red, which is cute of him. "No, I--I mean, of course I do enjoy your, I'm happy to share a meal with you. I just..." A long sigh. "Look, I don't know, this just seemed like the place to come to."
Shouichi pauses for a moment, thinking about that, and then nods. "Ok, that's fair. I should go check on the cassoulet again, but let's take a look at your eye first." He unfolds from the only other chair in his tiny living room and goes over to stand in front of Hikawa. "Come on, ice pack off, let me see."
Hikawa pulls the ice pack off of his face and looks up at Shouichi, not quite smiling. He looks...tired, worn out, like maybe he's been under a lot of stress lately. "It doesn't hurt," he says, and maybe he's lying, or maybe not. "Thanks for the ice."
"Sure, of course." Frowning, Shouichi bends down to take a closer look at the bruising, seeing another bruise-color beneath it. "Haven't you been sleeping ok?" He reaches out to tap Hikawa's cheekbone. "You've got dark circles, see, right--"
None of what happens next deliberate, really, it's just Hikawa doing things the way he does them, with slightly too much force. He reaches up to brush Shouichi's hand away, Shouichi loses balance, Hikawa catches him, he lands in Hikawa's lap, his forehead smacks Hikawa's nose, and Hikawa bites off a curse. And now their faces are a breath apart, or maybe less, maybe half a breath, and Hikawa grabs the front of his shirt and kisses him, also with slightly too much force. Which isn't exactly bad when it's kissing.
It's not lengthy. In fact it feels like it's over in an instant, and then Hikawa flushes bright red again and says, "Sorry, that was a stupid impulse, I'll--"
"You'll put the ice pack back on your eye, it's still swelling a bit. I need to go turn off the heat on the stove, anyway, but then the cassoulet can sit a little, there's enough garlic in it that if you're going to go kissing me it should all be before dinner."
Hikawa stares up at him, dazed. "Ok...?"
Shouichi stands back up and head into the kitchen, where he turns off the stove with one hand and digs his phone out of his pocket with the other, flipping it open and sending Mana a message that just says, [iou ¥500]
[i knew it]
[wait is he there]
"Do you want more water? Or a beer or something?"
"A beer would be wonderful, please," says Hikawa, sounding slightly lost. "You're sure you're not mad at me for, uh...that?"
Shouichi smiles to himself as he gets two beers out of the fridge. "No, why would I be mad?" [none of your business,] is what he sends back to Mana. "Hey, do you work tomorrow or are you free?"

Make a Home In My Arms (Kamen Rider Agito Fic)
Summary:
Despite his broad smile and easy laughter, the weight on his shoulders and clouds in his mind were heavy upon his gentle heart. Luckily, Mana was made of tougher stuff and was always there beside him.
To read on AO3, follow the link below. To read here, continue past the read more!
Their house was very quiet at night with the odd layout carrying every sound like an echo, sending it up or down through the house that seemed to spiral and carry to and from the upstairs bedrooms. The only person who seemed to really notice such a fact was Mana; however, the boys of the house were all pretty heavy sleepers compared to her. So when she could hear socks on carpet out in the hall seeming to pace the hallway, she wasn’t surprised it had been what woke her. She heard the steps hover awkwardly at the end of the hall around the corner from her room for a bit before they eventually made their way to leave whoever it was up at this time of night right outside her door. It was too dark to see any shadows beneath the door, but the only one who ever sought her out especially at a time like this left her with only one possible visitor.
She waited, not making a sound outside keeping her breathing as even as possible in case Shouichi grew skittish and ran back to his room, giving up on whatever had brought him to her. She would sometimes tease and act a bit more harsh towards him than she ever really meant just to see his expressions, he was always such a vibrant person for someone who hid so much of himself away simultaneously. But in truth she never minded whenever he would pluck the courage to come to her, content knowing she was the one person he had decided to zero in on even for the smallest concerns that seemed to make roost in his head. He was still reluctant to reach out for help or to worry anyone, even if his efforts of keeping others at ease only incited more concern than just asking for help would have. So she hoped giving him some patience would encourage him here.
Even when he stopped his pacing, he was constantly making some sort of sound as if he couldn't keep still, a constant rustling of clothing against itself, his socks seeming to worry a dent into the carpet by now surely as he kept twisting the balls of his feet into the floor where he stood. Mana had to make sure she fully stifled the chuckle that came to her, endeared at the man for how young and small he came off despite being the older of the two of them. Still, she held fast in her waiting, comfortable in bed with the blanket pulled up to her nose as she turned her head on her pillow to look towards the door as if she could see with her eyes as vividly as she did in her mind the man anxiously behind it.
Eventually, she was rewarded for her efforts when she heard less of a knock and more of a muted pawing at her door. A moment later she heard Shouichi’s voice stage-whisper through the door and the slight movement of the doorknob being grabbed but not turned, the mechanisms inside clicking softly.
“Mana-chan? A-are you busy?”
She huffed out her nose to keep from laughing out loud at how odd the phrasing was.
“I was busy sleeping, but I'm not now.”
She made a big show of moving around in the bed, making sure he would hear her blankets being pushed around and the small creaks of the bed.
He replied with a small chuckle, trying to cover up embarrassment or maybe even a little guilt at having woken her. “Ahhhaha….Sorry…um, but since you’re not busy doing that now, could I-”
She had given patience plenty, now that he was as good as asking himself she was taking the lead.
“Just come in, Shouichi-kun.”
With a soft, “excuse me then” on his lips for the sake of decorum, he carefully opened the door, shutting it fully behind him as gently as he could so it wouldn't make any loud sounds against the doorframe. Only then did he turn around where he stood to look at Mana in the dark room, only the smothered moonlight illuminating through the window as the city streets mostly kept the stars out of sight. She was sitting up in her bed, but she had scooched to the side as close to the wall as she could get, leaving the side facing him open. She had the blankets kicked down to the foot of the bed, waiting -not discarded. He tucked his hands into the sleeves of the sweatshirt he had worn to bed and gripped the material of the shirt around his stomach, his oversized borrowed sleep pants complimenting the look to make him come off much smaller than he was as they dragged at his heels. He had gotten all his own clothes by now since living with them for around a year now, but he had almost begged to keep the borrowed pajama’s from “their” uncle.
“Shouichi-kun…come here, would you?”
He nodded once, shuffling over to the side of her bed and not meeting her eyes anymore. He kept working the material of his shirt between his fingers, nervous energy all but radiating off him despite him carrying himself as politely as he could. He stopped when his knees all but bumped against the edge of the bed, his gaze flicking up to hers briefly in a silent “what next?”. She firmly smacked more than patted the open space on her mattress, offering him a smile to reassure him.
“Shouichi-kun.” It was said with a bit of a drawl, somewhere between an impatient whine and a soft scolding. The man in question nodded softly, his gaze dropping again to have his shaggy hair almost hide his eyes entirely.
“Okay…”
He moved to sit on the bed at first before simply flopping to the side from there, jostling a bit as the sudden weight to the small mattress bounced them both a little. He laughed at himself then, only now more comfortably looking into her eyes since they were face to face in this position, and she grinned back. He made an attempt to kick up the blankets, fumbling a bit with it and almost getting tangled before Mana took pity on him and reached down pulling the heavy duvet up over them both to their shoulders. She was sure the corners of her eyes must look pinched with mirth at how much she was smiling as he almost instantly melted into the bed, snuggling his face against the edge of the blanket in contentment.
“This is the bed we made together, so it feels extra comfortable like home.”
“Well, it is in our house, isn't it all home?”
“Mm-Mn, it is our house and our home but….mmm, this is the home you all made and invited me into. This, “he accentuated his words with a light caress of his hand against the sheets between them, “is part of the home I made.”
“Like the garden?”
He nodded with a bright hum, glad that she understood what he meant.
“Does it feel better? To be in the home you made yourself whenever you’re worried?”
He stilled, his smile quick to fade as he looked at her with interest and a nervous expression.
“Whenever you go off when you’re upset or scared or when you come back from your trips, i always end up finding you out there. Does Shuichi-kun find it more comfortable out there, in your own place with your heart?”
“I….I want to protect all of it, for you guys because you all were so kind to me and took me in. And for myself, because I want to stay here forever. It’s all important to me and irreplaceable.”
She hummed at his answer, reaching over to gently pull his head forward and against her collar bone. He didn't resist in the slightest, even if she had tugged him enough to hurt he would have yielded easily as always to her. She kept her hand in his hair, idly twirling some of the longer tufts against the back of his neck between her hands. At the coaxing of her unmoving hand, he reached out in kind, his hands now grabbing at the edges of her shirt as he tucked his arms tightly between them both to reach.
“Does this help?”
“...Ah, mn…it definitely helps. Thank you, Mana-chan. I like it here, very much.”
“We know, I promise. And Shouichi-kun can always stay here, as long as he likes. Even if he gets his memories back and has another home, this will never not be his home either.”
It seemed that hit the nail on the head, whatever tension and nervousness that he had had finally melting away as he seemed to relax almost boneless into her now aside his tight grip. She smiled, happy she could offer him something like this when he was always doing things and existing just for them. He was always the smile she came home to and the one she’d drag around on errands, he was always asking her incessant questions and trying to be involved in anything he could be even if he had no idea what was going on. His only real skills were his housekeeping, cooking, and his kindness. His jokes were terrible and she would groan with the others when she heard them. But in the end, she wouldn’t really want him to go or be anywhere else either. She knows she pushes him a lot, more than anyone else, to relearn his past, but it wasn't that she was pushing him out. She was honestly nervous he would remember some better other life without them and never come back sometimes.
She just wanted him to be happy and to be happy with him and the rest of her family. So for now, she was happy to be a part of his “home” and he a part of hers, however long it would last.
