Tsukemen with spicy nōkō broth and a yummy egg! I *love* the noodles at this place—such doughy, chewy goodness—but I'm not excited about their standard soups, so I have to wait for specials like this one. Which are so, so worth it.
"Kenchan Ramen" in Chitose Funabashi, Char-Sui Soy sauce TSUKEMEN + rice, 1,150 yen. I love this TSUKEMEN. I heard there is a word "Nostalgic Ramen", or maybe "Nostalgic TSUKEMEN"? I like the kan-sui, bright yellow ramen noodles. The Char-Sui pork so tender it almost falls apart(called "HORO-CHAR" by the younger generation), which is cooked in the style of cheap ramen shops of the Showa period, is good. Boiled bean sprouts are good. Noodles should not be soaked in the dipping sauce. Like Mr. Motei in Soseki Natsume's "I am a Cat," only dip a portion of the noodle and slurp it all up in one go. This is delicious. Then, you eat rice with pork and boiled bean sprouts soaked in the dipping sauce. Bliss. I could eat this every day. In fact, I could eat it every day. + Ken-chan Ramen, which had been on the verge of collapse due to a shortage of staff, now has a new member. And they are now open until after 9:00 p.m. + Two men were giving the worst sermon ever to a baseball boy of about elementary school age. The father and ... what's the other one? The coach? He didn't look like a youth baseball coach. "I don't get a sense of your motivation from your attitude. You're just doing what you're told, aren't you? You're just sitting around after dinner watching TV. That's when you have to show motivation. Dad was very disappointed. Why can't you do what I taught you? When you play catch, you have to get the ball right in front of you. This is absolute. You must not catch the ball with the side of your body. That's why it's no good. When I was in high school, I practiced hard and won a regular spot. Your coach wants to use you, too. But you're not going to be used because of your attitude..." They preach to an elementary school student at a ramen shop at night while drinking beer. It's so ugly when a father mounts a child. Isn't that abuse? At least lecture him when he's not drunk.
Back to heart palpitations ramen, this time for something not-spicy! (I've tried everything spicy.) Dipping noodles with vegetables. Even the mild broth has an intensely concentrated flavor—not spicy but chock full of bones and fish—and their noodles are so doughy and flavorful. Big fan.
