2 things
1. I ship Andrew and Molly.
2. Spencer, mallard, and Duke are giving me Zuko, azula, and Iroh vibes, like, Prince Spencer annoyed the main gang alot until he changed his ways and helped others, thanks to the wisdom from his Uncle Duke, and then he beat his sister, Princess Mallard in an agni steam.
Ok - let's give some answers! (Do these count as answers?)
Andrew and Molly probably would date if they were human, or be those friends who you think are dating cause they are that close. They know each other so well that it's like they share a brain (they performed this once at Tidmouth when Molly finished Andrew's sentence for him while he sneezed, and Henry nearly called for a priest).
They do give those vibes! I don't remember if I ever did post this idea I had which was based on the fact that I based Mallard on Azula's character (I think I did...) - but Duke being Iroh is a really good choice, as is Spencer as Zuko! Makes me wonder who the rest of Team Avatar would be (I can see Emily as Katara, Percy as Sokka... maybe Toby as Toph? Beaten up by a little wooden tram!)
Thank you!

Day 9-The Fallen Light
Traintober 2023
Other Stories
Day 9-Viaduct
The Fallen Light.
No one had been more relieved than Duke when the old iron bridge had fallen. When The Skarloey had connected to the old line to reach the mountain quarry, he had been thrilled to return to a piece of his home.
Until he had seen the old iron bridge. He would have thought the old structure would have fallen apart in the years of abandonment, and good riddance. But the structure had survived and the inspectors had said it was in good enough condition for use until the new viaduct could be built.
He had hated crossing it, even since the first No. 3 had gone over the edge...It had felt like the bridge was cursed. Anytime he had to cross the bridge at night, it had felt like he had been watched. He supposed he had been.
Jennings pulled up alongside him, the first time she had been on former Mid-Sodor metals since the great war.
"How is Sir Handel?" She asked quietly.
"Shaken." Duke stated, "But fine...He very nearly wasn't."
Jennings looked over at him with an unreadable expression, "What did happen Duke?" None of the workers seem to know and I'm not cruel enough to ask him"
Duke glared at the twisted pile of steel below them in the valley, "it seems the bridge wanted to claim another No.3"
***
Sir Handel had been cross coming back from the quarry. The trucks had managed to break the winch on the incline, and it had taken several hours to repair. He had only been able to leave with his train as the sun fell below the mountains When the old iron bridge had come into view in the moonlight, he had sighed in relief, soon he would be back at the warm sheds. Now he would give anything to be safely back at the quarry
When he started to cross the bridge the night sky had been clear. Now halfway across the wind blew and shrieked with enough force to rip the trucks from the rails and cast them into the valley below. The moon had been coverer by dark clouds so that the only visible light was from his firebox, his lamp snuffed out by the winds. He whistled desperate for help but the sound was torn away before it even reached him, much less anyone else.
The old bridge groaned and creaked under the onslaught, swaying in the sudden gale. Within his cab, his crew hung on desperately to avoid being flung from their engine. His wheels slipped and spun on suddenly icy rails as he fought to move forward even as he was pelted with tree limbs, slate, and pieces of truck.
The wind growled, shoving him back towards the center of the bridge. Grandpuff would have had his boiler washed out with soap if he heard the whistle Sir Handel sent in return.
The wind roared in frustration, Sir Handel's wider wheels stabilizing him even under the onslaught. Hail fell from the heavens like hammer blows, and Sir Handel knew he couldn't keep this up for long.
Sure enough, his firewoman, who was only in training, lost her grip and was thrown from the cab. The former Mid-Sodor No.3 lunged desperately and just barely caught the back of her overalls between his teeth.
The wind howled at the denial of its victim with enough force to shake the valley, the bridge and its occupants tossed like peas in a pan from the force.
Sir Handel was certain this would be his end, tossed from the bridge like the engine whose number he bore, but just as his wheels began to tip from the rails, a whistle shattered out through the night. Sir Handel felt himself slam back down onto the rails as he was engulfed in golden light. The wind recoiled with a shriek, burnt by the golden glow.
'RUN FALCON!' Sir Handel heard in his head, echoing around from the force.
He didn't need to be told twice.
As he surged forward, he felt more than heard the wind slam against his savior.
The wind's shrieks fought to be heard over resounding whistles, the bridge rattling with every impact.
Sir Handel fought forward, but he was losing steam, his boiler ran cold by the freezing winds and hail. Just as he would have come to a stop he felt someone push him from behind, Mid-Sodor style coupling fitting strangely against his Skarloey buffers. The whistle sounded from behind him as the iron bridge's guardian pushed its successor toward safety.
The wind roared, but a new whistle cut through from ahead. Peter Sam charged onto the bridge, his driver tied on front with steel wire. As they met, the firewoman and driver quickly coupled the engines together, Sir Handel keeping his death grip on her overalls. The second they were coupled Peter Sam threw himself backwards, dragging Sir Handel with him, the specter remaining behind to guard their retreat.
They reached solid ground just in time.
The old bridge, battered by the battle of wind and spector, fell.
Even as the metal that was once a pride of the Mid-Sodor hurtled towards the earth, wind and specter continued their battle, fighting till the last piece buried itself in the ground below.
***
When Duke finished his story, Jennings was silent for a long moment.
"It was him wasn't it? He saved Sir Handel, still guarding the bridge that took him from us."
"Proteus always was stubborn." Duke said with grim fondness in his voice, "As long as the spirit that took him remains, he will guard the valley."
Jennings met Duke's gaze, "The bridge being replaced by a viaduct won't stop it, will it?"
"No. No, I'm afraid not."
Jennings's eyes seem to burn with feeling, "then it's time to kill a spirit."
Duke smiled and was anything but kind, "let us call Caomhnóir. We will see how this spirit fares against one with the Lady's might"

*calls a 9 ton machine a "good boy" repeatedly*
Sidenote, apart from the asks I still have to answer, I’m calling a lid on these questions. Hope ya’ll understand!
He’s always had a knack with charming coaches, both on the MSR and SR. Trucks, barring that one accidental time, hardly act up with him either. On both railways, he took it upon himself to name every truck that wanted a name. (Spoiler alert: You’ll hardly ever find a truck that prefers being anonymous. And how can you blame them?)
Impressively, he seems not to have forgotten a single one. In 1955, several ex-MSR trucks were bought by the Skarloey Railway Preservation Society from Marthwaite Quarry. Peter Sam first brought them onto SR metals, and eagerly crowed his whistle for the other engines to meet “Ax, Ginny, Scrag, Chocks, Cobbles, Princess, Warpy, Whippy, Teahouse, Froghead, Twobits, Snappy, Alex-Vander, O’Tool-“ you get the point.
Peter Sam, then named Stuart, got along with his last driver on the MSR so well that said driver applied to the Peel Godred Works Railway to keep working with him. You should’ve seen his face when Driver Shaugnessy first turned up at the Aluminum Works with his rags and tools, it’d bring tears of joy to your eyes. They recrossed paths and worked together again when Shaugnessy was later a volunteer on the SR. I’d say his continued presence during those tumultuous years wherein Peter Sam moved between railways twice was a huge, huge boon to the little engine’s mental health. Shaugnessy retired from the footplate in 1976, meaning he was still around to see Peter Sam and Sir Handel reunite with their Granpuff.

Tilly the Dukedog (OC), Pt. One: Early Life
So… it was inevitable that I’d make an OC, lol. Here’s the life story of the Dukedog character that I’ve been puzzling out!
—————————
When steamed up for the first time, Tilly awoke as a GWR Bulldog in 1899. Her early service life centered around passenger trains in Cornwall, England.
Tilly was a clever, silver-tongued engine who could convince complete strangers to do anything for her. To everyone’s relief, she almost never used this ability outside of charming passengers and soothing coaches. (Almost.) She could talk around an issue and make someone think they brought it up instead.
She had no aspirations for an express service or for more prestigious work. Tilly liked her routines and her trains. If anything seemed to upset her sense of normalcy, she would fight to restore it.
While running trains in Cornwall, she befriended a young GWR Duke express engine named Edith. Edith was a plain-spoken, earnest gal with plenty of cheer. While a bit gullible and stubborn, she was kind. She appreciated her position on the express, but she longed to travel further and see more of the GWR.
Edith was a willing partner in Tilly’s pranks and (often) good-natured schemes. Tilly never lied to her about any of it, but Edith went along with it anyway. “It’s fun,” she said, “and I’ll keep it fun for everyone by looking after you! You get so silly about it sometimes, after all.”
In return, Tilly helped Edith finagle more far-reaching runs. She also insisted that some of her parts go to Edith when she was in disrepair. “There’s still life in them yet, thanks to you gentlemen,” she’d tell the workmen. “And it wouldn’t be very Great Western of me if I didn’t help a fellow engine.”
When it came to the Great Western Way, Tilly and Edith followed it more often than not. They respected its focus on inter-engine solidarity and running a tight, clean operation. However, they weren’t above bending the rules if they felt it was for the greater good. And Tilly in particular didn’t understand the GWR’s preoccupation with tradition and its history.
Tilly had many happy years with Edith and her trains in Cornwall. However, when the GWR expanded to the Cambrian main line, she found Edith slated to move there. The Duke engines were the only ones light enough to run on the line, but powerful enough to keep up with the heavy traffic. Edith jumped at the opportunity to see more of the GWR.
It was the only time that Tilly and Edith had a serious argument. Tilly didn’t want an Edith-shaped hole in her routine and felt betrayed that she was so eager to go. Edith was taken aback and hurt, thinking Tilly would be supportive as always. Several days passed before they managed to sort it out, with Tilly admitting she’d miss Edith.
“As if I won’t miss you too! I’m thrilled to run on the new line, but I wish you could come with me. I’m only trying to be brave and cool about it all, like you.”
“…I suppose I haven’t been so cool this time, have I?”
“No. But I shouldn’t have thought you wouldn’t be upset at all. I know you better than that by now. I’m sorry.”
“It’s alright. I’m a big girl; I’ll be alright. You go on now. I can always make a new routine, after all.”
“Like what?”
They agreed to write to each other. And for a while, they did. Edith gushed about the new sights, the new people, and her new adventures. Tilly kept her in the loop about their Cornwall coworkers and her own journeys, once she began working on other lines herself.
Those letters became the bright spot in Tilly’s days, especially as the Great Depression hit. She also knew her days were numbered, with her class becoming outdated. Her silver tongue couldn’t change that, she’d come to know. She only wanted to hold onto her correspondence until she couldn’t anymore.
“You and the Dukes are needed,” she told Edith in one letter. “The GWR doesn’t have any lighter engines to run that line. They have to repair you, to maintain you. That’s all I need to know, no matter what happens to me.”
After that letter, Edith didn’t talk about her maintenance anymore. The letters from her stopped altogether a few years later.
Tilly fretted all the way up to her scheduled arrival at the works. She thought she was about to be scrapped, but she didn’t care. All she wanted was to know Edith’s whereabouts before her departure.
Then she saw Edith in the works. She saw the crumbled state of Edith’s frames. She saw the tears glinting in her eyes, the shaky smile on her face. “Hello, dear.”
Tilly stared at her, then swallowed hard. “Well. At least we’ll go out together.”
“Oh, no. I’ll be the one going out, but we’ll be together. I promise.”
“What?”
She didn’t understand until the workmen came over, talking about “putting the boiler and the cab on the Bulldog.”
Before she could react, Edith said, “There’s no money to repair my frames. I’ll be gone soon no matter what. So please, let me go out helping you, giving you my parts. Like you did for me, right?”
After a long pause, Tilly croaked, “Right. Thank you, dear. Thank you so much for — for everything.”
“You too. Just keep on keeping on, you silly goose. That’s thanks enough for me.”
Tilly awoke five hours later with Edith’s boiler and cab on her frames.
When she rolled into Paddington alongside other ex-Bulldogs rebuilt with Duke pieces, she didn’t care about the looks on the board of directors’ faces. She didn’t care about being called the “Earl” class.
But when she overheard workers calling her a “Dukedog,” she cared. She called herself a Dukedog rather than an Earl.
“The Earls on the board gave us nothing,” she told the others. “Edith and the Dukes gave us everything. I’m all of me and near all of her, and I’ll ensure everyone bloody well knows it.”

Some notes because why not:
This originally was just a little thing I wanted to see, but yknow what? Why not make him like this??
Bangs are a bit shorter to help with work and such
Only person in his family that's like this! Kinda a reason why he was treated like a golden child when he was younger in this au

TrainTober2022 #13: Lost (& Found)
Story Blurb & Credits Below Cut
The Fat Controller stepped out from Elizabeth into the old yard. Everywhere he looked, workers were bustling this way and that to get things ready. The Thin and Fat Clergyman had arrived earlier, and were eagerly talking to everyone and taking photographs.
"All this fuss over a steam engine?" chimed Elizabeth.
"It's not just any steam engine." Sir Charles replied.
There, standing just outside of the shed, was a very old Single. It was caked in soot and grime, and it's eyebrows had long turned white with age. It looked very confused.
"How are they handling it?" the Fat Controller asked his daughter.
Bridget sighed. "Fairly well, if you'd just found out you've been asleep for nearly a century."
"May I have a word with them?"
"Don't be long. We're supposed to get her on the well wagon soon."
The Fat Controller nodded, and turned his attention towards the ancient machine standing before him.
"Well, hello there. My name is Sir Charles Topham Hatt. What's your name?"
The old engine blinked. "I... can't remember. The People, here... they used to call me... 'The Bloomer'... Yes, The Bloomer! They put me... in this shed... they'd get me... when they had more work for us. That never happened... did it?"
"I'm afraid your line has been closed for a long time, Bloomer."
   "So... why is everyone... here?"
"The fine lady who rescued you," the Fat Controller began, "is my daughter, Bridget. She and the group of enthusiasts here before you have been working tirelessly to save steam engines from scrap and find them new railways to call home."
"That's... why you're here, then? To give me... a new home?"
"Of course, Bloomer. Every engine deserves a good home."

I like your Sodor internet headcanon, and your Skarloey railway one.
Do you have any other Skarloey railway headcanons?
naur bc the way i literally forgot this ask existed for several months akdkl;fsa;kldjf;asldk
but yeah go ahead have my Skarloey Railway fleet HCs
-The first six engines arrived pretty much exactly as in canon.
-Before Rusty, there was a No. 5 diesel called Lana. She was built initially as a slate truck for the line’s opening, before being selected for conversion into an engine in 1952. She had been a rather troublesome truck, though her conversion into an engine and naming was ultimately what caused her to wise up, as she now experienced pulling trucks from the engine’s point of view. She even pulled coaches on the odd occasion. Sadly, this only lasted one year, and she was withdrawn due to a failed gearbox. She was converted back into a slate truck, though has retained her newfound wisdom from her time as an engine. There is debate about whether she should be restored to her former status as an engine.
-The number 7, too, has had a rather interesting history. Before Ivo Hugh, it belonged to a railway traction engine (with 4-2-0 wheel arrangement) called Luan, built in 1954. She acted as station pilot at Crovan’s Gate for a while, giving the likes of Sir Handel and Peter Sam time to rest in between their trains. She was withdrawn in 1958 and sold on to another railway.
-No. 8, like in canon, is Duke.
-Freddie is spelled “Freddy” in this AU as his full name is Freddy Fazbear. He is still based on the NWNGR “Russell”, and is the Skarloey Railway’s No. 9. He was built in 1906 for the same railway as his twin, at this time without a name, and worked there until that closed in 1937. He was left in the shed until requisitioned for World War 2 in 1939. He worked at a steelworks until the war ended, at which point he was sold to a tramway in Dorset. After that tramway also closed, he was bought by the Skarloey Railway and restored at Crovan’s Gate. By the time he was ready, in 1987, Duke had already been in service for four years, so he was given the name “Freddy Fazbear” and the number 9 when he at last entered traffic.
-Mighty Mac was built in 1992 as a new build engine at Crovan’s Gate works, becoming the railway’s No. 10. No one quite knows how they got to have two faces, but it’s just how they are and the other engines have learned to accept it.
-Luke, No. 11, was built in 1903 and worked on numerous industrial railways before being sold to the Skarloey in 1996.
Bertram, No. 12, was built for the opening of the Mid-Sodor Railway in 1880, and was abandoned there even longer than Duke, until Toby found an old line that connected up with it and discovered him in 1998. He was restored at Crovan’s Gate after the events of Toby’s Discovery.

tell me everything about your interpretations of real life locomotives
i just think they're neat
hello I am so sorry for making you wait months for an answer on this, I hope this is good!!
So I do have some locomotives from real life as part of my headcanons for TTTE characters (for example, Onslaught, Glory, and Greyhound are part of my D10 lore- and in my headcanon Diesel 10 is warship D810 “Cockade”)
But there are a few that don’t exactly relate to TTTE. I’ll be talking specifically about how I characterize them, with some links to past artwork I’ve done and any other informative links
Santa Fe 2926 (or “Santi”)
(2926 is the only one I’ve given a name that’s different from its running number so far, since shes the only one ive officially made into an OC)
Santi had a very short working life when she was still in service, and spent decades as a static display in a park. Oddly enough, shes not so grouchy as most display engines tend to become. I like to think she was in limbo for the most part while on display, kind of like Duke being buried in the shed. (Or like Captain America getting frozen for 75 years) When she woke up during the beginning of her restoration in the early 2000s, she was unaware of how much time had passed- which was very disorienting. Fortunately she’s had the restoration team catch her up on the last 60 years of human history.
Santi as of writing this post hasn’t been on any excursions yet as far as I know, and is still cooped up in the yard. I think she keeps an audio log of how she’s slowly going crazy in there.
Tumblr media
“Day 325 - the restoration team fixed my whistle! Its a shame I have no one of my own kind to scream at with it!”
I think Santi and R&N 2102 are pen pals. preserved 4-8-4 besties for life ❤️🚂
they narrate what they want written out loud to their engineers, they both sign off with 0000-00000000-0000, their shared wheel arrangement in text.

Denver and Rio Grande K36s
Tumblr media
(I want to give them names, and they’d probably all start with the same letter)
9 out of 10 of the K36s are preserved, the 5th one got scrapped. In reality, the group is split across the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad and the Durango & Silverton, but for the sake of this interpretation they’re all together
I found out about the K36s through a video by History in the Dark, he has a series of videos of “10 of the best trains ever”. I cant find the exact episode :(
Imagine the Dieseasel but there’s NINE of bill and ben instead of two. Though they aren’t as mischievous, they’re definitely just as irritating. They’re sort of a strange hive mind of little engines, akin to Ariel’s sisters in the Little Mermaid. Any time something spectacular happens on their railway, they find some way to spiritually communicate the happening to dear #485, their sibling who fell in a turntable and had to be scrapped- her damage was too severe. Though 485 was very much like the rest of them, she sort of becomes their saint- who they leave offerings of coal and water for in her old shed berth like its a medieval icon. Any time one of them misbehaves, one of their siblings is sure to tell them that 485 would be ashamed and she is not smiling on them right now.
Although this strays from their real life history quite a bit (and their gauge, which is 3ft), I think it would be hilarious if Thomas met them in a RWS-ified BWBA. He comes to their little railway and they all go front over wheels about their strange visitor. I also think the dynamic between them would be interesting, since the K36s are 9 out of their original 10, and Thomas is 1 out of the original 10 E2s. However, It’d probably take a while to get to that point in conversation with how supremely creeped out Thomas is by the K36s slightly cultish practices
Also, they’d probably chase him out of their little railway with pitchforks and acetylene torches if he brought up anything about turntables. They’re a bit of a touchy subject .
~
NKP 765
Tumblr media
the 765 isn’t hard to find videos of XD Since shes the pride of the Nickel Plate Road and not converted to burn oil like lots of other large preserved engines, she takes pride in her unique status. I like to think she has the attitude of a great aunt or grandma with a gritty sense of humor and a laugh that could shake the walls. She does get puffed up in the smokebox, though, and has a hard time admitting she’s wrong. She has a bit of a parental relationship with the diesels on her railway, some of whom call her “granny”, and other endearments relating to her age.
~
New Zealand V Class
Tumblr media
in a very different vein than everyone else, the V class all met the absolutely horrifying fate of being BURIED IN MUD
in my interpretation of them, The V Class have all become eldritch horror abominations, and local engines have kept their ghost stories alive and well. (usually taking the form of wayward vengeful spectres that like to make themselves known in uncomfortable places)
I had an idea where the V class emerges as one giant metal monster festooned with river sediment and garbage and terrorizes the locals but I don’t know enough about New Zealand or its railways to make an effective story.

Day 31- For What We Fall
Traintober 2023
Other Stories
Day 31-Lights Out
For What We Fall
A/N: This Story is the follow up to Day 9-The Fallen Light
The lorry pulled to a stop, eyeing the valley below dubiously. From atop its trailer, Caomhnóir looked grim as his crew climbed out of the lorry’s cab,
"Thank you for coming, Caomhnóir," Skarloey said. I know it was not an easy trip to make."
The tank engine gave a tense smile, "No thanks are needed, Skarloey. The Lady looks after all engines. Even those that were stopped from passing on."
"It's true then." Duke said, "Proteus is being held here by the spirit."
Thomas frowned, "No, not directly. Only the Lady can prevent another engine's soul from passing on. Whatever is happening, Proteus has bound himself, whether he realizes that or not."
"Can you unbind him?" Jennings asked.
"I do not know. He must wish to be unbound first. I have been blessed by the Lady to protect both those passed on and any they would seek to harm, but that does not give me the ability or the right to control them.”
A cool wind blew through the valley, winding its way through the assembled engine's wheels.
"We're being watched," Rheneas guessed.
"Indeed." Thomas activated his lamp, the golden light shining into the gap where the bridge once stood.
The wind pulled back with a hiss.
"We are not here to harm you."  Caomhnóir called softly, "only to keep you from harming others."
Skarloey saw Duke and Jennings shift discontentedly, but they did not disagree with the shining guardian.
The wind hissed, curling around the rocks and trees of the valley, cutting through the waves of the water far below.
'Liar.'
Before the tank engine could reply, a soft whistle echoed up the valley, sending a shiver down the engines' frames.
"Proteus," Duke whispered. Jennings looked stricken.
The wind shifted, blowing towards the sound.
"You don't have to believe me." Caomhnóir said into the quiet air, "But trust him."
The wind stilled from a moment before it blew towards the point the whistle had come from.
The whistle came again, softer this time, its tone encouraging.
The wind slowly shifted and Skarloey knew it was considering Caomhnóir."
Finally, it made a sound like a sigh, and the wind moved down towards the cliff.
The fallen leaves around them began to swirl together, attempting to form a small shape.
The whistle came again, and where the old iron bridge once stood, a golden light appeared, as if an engine's lamp stood in the air before them. Fireflies flew from the woods behind them, to form behind the light, taking the shape of an engine very similar in shape to Skarloey, with a large lamp atop its smokebox. A tear trailed down Jennings's face as she beheld her brother's form.
Proteus's light shone on the leaves, strengthening the wind until the leaves swirled together into the spirit's form.
Caomhnóir ignored the stricken gasps of the narrow gauge engine as he looked at the child before him.
"Hello little one." He said gently.
The spirit regarded him with open suspicion. He allowed his lamps to dimly shine on her, the spirit shuddering at the unexpected warmth.
"Is that better?" He asked. The spirit nodded slowly.
Thomas smiled at her. "May I ask why you tried to push Sir Handel off the bridge the other night?"
The girl's head tilted in confusion.
"The engine that your guardian calls Falcon."
'Lonely.' The wind whispered through the leaves.
"You tried to kill Sir Handel because you were lonely?" Duke asked in askance.
The spirit slowly pointed towards Proteus's light.
Proteus let off a mournful whistle.
"You wanted for him to have a friend." Thomas guessed. The child nodded.
"I don't believe Proteus wants you to kill another engine to keep him company."
Proteus whistled an agreement.
'Left,' the wind hissed accusingly.
Duke was the first to figure it out, "the railway closed." He said, the spirit turned to face him. "The Mid-Sodor fell. We were all sold off or left behind. None of us wanted to leave, this was our home, just as this was once yours."
"You know who this is?" Skarloey asked.
"I believe I do," Duke said gravely.
"Before either of you arrived," he said glancing at Jennings and Proteus, "the locals would use the bridge to cross the valley. We told them it was dangerous, but they didn't listen. One night during a storm a family tried to cross...they never found the youngest child's body. The railway funded a bridge for foot traffic further up the valley after that."
"Do you know her name?" Caomhnóir asked.
"Elin," Duke answered, the spirit perking up at the sound of her name.
"That doesn't explain why she killed Proteus." Jenning snapped.
Proteus whistled sharply at his sister, who looked taken aback.
"She was alone." Caomhnóir translated for the human crews. "She didn't attack out of malice, but out of thirty years of desperation to not be alone anymore."
"Why did he stay?" Skarloey asked.
Proteus wheeshed mournfully.
Thomas sighed heavily, "she didn't know how to move on, and he could no more have left her to suffer alone than he could renounce the Lady."
Jennings and Duke looked stricken.
The fallen engine whistled at Caomhnóir.
The tank engine shook his head mournfully, "I'm sorry, I don't know how  humans pass on, if she were an engi..."
Thomas suddenly cut off and the other engines stared as his eyes turned completely golden, his brass fittings and number one shining brightly in the dying light. The light faded and Thomas shook his head.
"Never mind,” He gasped, “the Lady has decided to intervene."
Samantha looked up toward her engine, "Is the Lady intervening for a Human even allowed?"
"A human? No. But a child?" Thomas grinned dangerously, "I don't believe there is anyone dumb enough to stop her."
He glanced over to Proteus, "Even with her aid, she will need a guide."
Proteus whistled resolutely.
The spirit looked back and forth between Caomhnóir and the fallen engine before she approached the tank engine, laying a spectral hand on his running board.
The two stared at each other for a long moment before Thomas spoke quietly.
"I promise. By the Lady, you will see your family again."
The spirit looked at him a moment longer before walking to where Proteus stood, climbing into the cab
"Proteus!" Jennings whistled, "Will I see you again?"
Proteus whistled firmly and Thomas's eyes glowed brighter, "The Lady has recognized his sacrifice." Thomas said, "As long as rails run through this valley, he will watch over it. We do not know how long his journey will take, but he will return."
"I miss you everyday brother," Jennings said, crying.
"And I as well," Duke said, tears of his own trailing down.
Proteus whistled softly back before the light turned towards Caomhnóir. The meaning was clear.
'Ready.'
Caomhnóir's lights powered up, the light burning brighter, swirling around the fallen engine and his passenger. It grew brighter and brighter, the engines and crews forced to look away from its intensity.
A triumphant whistle was heard and the light cut out, leaving only the engines and crews on the cliff.

A random headcannon I have for Timin (my TTTE OC) is he can’t sleep without the teddy bear he’s always carrying or he just stays awake. It’s been a heavy debate between him and Duke to just go to bed without it sometimes.
