#TTTOPart #TTTOPsart #TTTOPsartcollection #TTTOPsartists via @larrys_list 🎨post today, same artwork also posted by @choi_seung_hyun_tttop on 161208, 161027 & deleted/liked other times ➡️ #RichardPettibone Frank Stella, 'Ouray,' 1961, Three Times, 2011, Oil on canvas, 12.12 x 21.12 x 2 in. (30.8 x 53.6 x 5.1 cm.) Stella had more than 1 work called Ouray, on which this 1 is based as appropriated by Pettibone. ✔️➕🎶🙌🏻🎨"Pettibone is considered to be a pioneer of Appropriation Art that was popular among several artists during the second half of the 20th century. Appropriation Art is the “practice of quoting, copying or deforming objects or pre-existing works of art,” & became quite popular among his contemporaries. The irony in Pettibone’s work was that he recreated works of famous avant-garde artists who themselves produced works that were a replication in some form. After graduation, he worked on a series of miniature replica paintings that were painted on handmade stretcher bars. These paintings were of the same proportions as the ones found in the Art Forum magazine. This creation mirrored his interest in craft, construction and model making that included toy trains & airplanes. At the age of 26, he made a two miniature replicas of “Campbell Soup Can (Pepper Pot)” by Andy Warhol, one in gray & the other in green. He stamped his name as well as Warhol’s name on it. This along with the life size replica of Duchamp’s 1913 “Bicycle Wheel” made Pettibone a figure that couldn’t be ignored. It was at this time that he appropriated the paintings of famous Pop Artists such as Andy Warhol, Frank Stella, Jasper Johns & Roy Lichtenstein." As many members of the rising West Coast art scene of the sixties, Pettibone followed the latest trends from New York City through exhibition catalogues and magazines, in particular Artforum, a then recently launched magazine in which Pop Art was regularly illustrated in color spreads. He did not directly respond to the printed reproductions per se: it was, rather, the gap between these reproductions, the expectations created, & the experience of viewing the actual works that interested him.

Happy birthday to legendary artist David Hockney, turning 80 on June 9, who @choi_seung_hyun_tttop met in January 2017 (around 20th or so with pictures posted of that & his two new art pieces bought.) The photo with the wine was around January 6. @__youngbae__ also posted 2 pieces he bought from Hockney's Spring IPad series. From an old post I did on this ... #TTTOPart #TTTOPsart #TTTOPsartists via @choi_seung_hyun_tttop 's 🎨📸➡🔝& artist #DavidHockney ✨So awesome & happy for you. Hockney's studio annex is located off his home in Hollywood Hills, CA. He returned to the area in 2013 or so. 🔝has posted & liked his work in the past as well as acquired 2 IPAD drawings recently. ➡ -#DavidHockney English 1937– The arrival of spring in Woldgate, East Yorkshire in 2011 (twenty eleven) – 31 May, No. 1 (900) 💖 On right is ➡David Hockney The Arrival of Spring in Woldgate, East Yorkshire in 2011 (twenty eleven) - 2 June (2011) iPad drawing printed on paper, edition of 25 139.7 x 105.4 (ref:2 june) ✨🌳I mentioned that in my update about 🔝's photo he deleted/shared. 🎨 These have been in the recent show in Australia, at the NGV as well as others such as the - David Hockney The Arrival of Spring 9 July–28 August 2015 (via Annely Juda Fine Art Gallery, U.K.) & @pacegallery in 2014. "We will be showing 16 standard sized and 4 large iPad drawings printed on paper from David Hockney's series of the 'Arrival of Spring'. These prints were first shown at the Royal Academy in 2012 in Hockney's successful exhibition 'The Bigger Picture'. The works depict the different stages of the Arrival of Spring from gloomy winter scenes to vibrantly bright spring." David Hockney (b. 1937, Bradford, England) has produced some of the most vividly recognizable images of this century. His ambitious pursuits stretch across a vast range of media, from photographic collages to full-scale opera stagings and from fax drawings to an intensive art historical study of the optical devices of Old Masters. David Hockney received the gold medal for his year at London’s Royal College of Art in 1962."

This was under the great influence of many artistic milestones such as Russian Constructivism and Op Art. His Butterfly work was interrupted in 2008 when Grotjahn tore his rotator cuff and broke a shoulder bone in an accident. This unfortunate turn of events forced him to adapt his work style to his injury to a less intensive painting. By drawing simple geometric untitled face parts on paper and linen Mark began his Face Paintings and Untitled series. - The Butterfly Paintings. Using multiple colors, Mark Grotjahn’s work is an interesting combination of rationality and intuition not often available in gallery and museum contemporary world. Although there was a lot of experimenting and chance, all of the untitled paintings followed a strict work system. He would first start by mapping out the triangular radii with a black pencil. After creating the skeleton, he would carefully pick a precise number of color pencils. The main rule for the color-picking was for the color to make sense in correspondence on to another, meaning they had a connection according to their value and intensity. After picking a satisfying number of pencils he would choose them randomly one segment of the painting. At the end of 20th century, Grotjahn started to focus more on the investigation of the radiant motif in his work, which can be seen in his later Butterfly paintings. Using Renaissance techniques in order to expose the perspective of his subjects, he managed to create an illusion of narrowing and expanding geometries.” (SFMOMA)

@nawa_kohei & @choi_seung_hyun_tttop (2013) 💞Good night @choi_seung_hyun_tttop 🎨💚One of the Direction paintings from the Force series as it looks. This explores the idea of force, which Nawa conceives as a set of invisible operations dictating the behaviour of materials. “Force in this sense refers to the gravity that exerts an influence on all things that exist in a space, the force that allows vegetation to grow up from the ground, and the force that enables slime mould to creep along a wall,” - Kohei Nawa In the Direction paintings, he poured black paint onto a vertically set canvas. He offset the canvas grain on the stretcher by fifteen degrees, & the the paint was allowed to slowly drip down the surface the canvas, allowing the force of gravity to produce the lines within the painting. The repetition of this action created a set of parallel stripes covering the canvas. The relation between the points & the lines not only gives visual stimulation but also adds to the overall impression of the space as an entire entity. The speed of movement, direction and gravity are a heady combination & inspire sensibility.

#TTTOPsArt #TTTOPArt #TTTOPsArtCollection #TTTOPsArtists @choi_seung_hyun_tttop 's 🎨update ➡️#TomooGokita Bloody Cone Nose 2007 - Posted too on 170123 & 170124. "BIOGRAPHY Tomoo Gokita’s gray-scale paintings depict archetypal figures, such as a pin-up girl or a geisha, with their faces concealed. With a background in graphic design, the Tokyo-based artist was initially inspired to create art by his love of manga and animation. His paintings reflect these pop cultural influences, evoking iconic celebrity headshots and pornographic magazines. Executed with extreme technical precision, his erasure of the face through Neo-expressionistic flourishes or scraping gestures disturbs and adds a humorous element to his compositions. Japanese, b. 1969, Tokyo, Japan, based in Tokyo, Japan"
