Alright, I saw some posts from people saying they didn’t enjoy Season 3 of The Umbrella Academy and although I think every one can have their own opinion, I’m here to tell you guys why you’re wrong (/j) and this is the best season yet and share how it made me like the first and second season. (all the spoilers, proceed with caution)

And I’ll start it by quoting dear Handler: Some things just don’t make sense... until they do.

She says that to Lila right after asking her to protect number Five. And like, I know her plan is all that “kill the higher ups, make shit for me and I’ll give you what you want”, but isn’t it funny how she lives for the Comission, she is the one to recruit Five and he is the founder of said Comission?

Time is already not linear before Five is saved by her, she saved him because she works for an organization he will found. We were living a paradox since the begining. That’s why I feel some people are confused about the third part of the series, But my time-travel-loving self is more than happy.

Everything is conected.

Do you remember when Reginald dies and Luther says that in his last call the old man said for him to pay attention to who he trusts? And how Luther than asks Klaus to speak with Reginald so they can ask him if he was murdered? And when Klaus dies trying to help Luther, his father tells him 1) he’s dead 2) Reggie killed Reggie. By the end of season three, finally someone betrays Luther and kills him. Who? Reginald. Klaus goes into the void and finds out Reginald killed Luther. How Klaus ends up in the void this time? He helped Reggie and died in the end. What was going to happen in season 3 has already been told to us by the first season. Klaus only realized he died in season 3, but Reggie had already told him that.

When Allison is worried about Ray, after the protest, Klaus tells her that she needs some menudo, which is what he eats with his mother when he is finally understanding himself and his powers(and it’s also the menudo that get’s him together with his father once again). At this point in season 2, Allison havent used her powers since Viktor and she is currently afraid os loosing everything by using it again, like an addict.

Klaus than tells her that fable of the frog and the scorpion. That is about someone’s way of being remaining the same even if it ends up fucking everyone up, including the scorpion. But it’s also about making a deal with someone who wants to use you. This is foreshadowing both of them being used by Reginald, but also Allison vilanization arc. “The point is: frogs are bitches and we do not negotiate with terrorists”. Both negotiate with Reggie lol Klaus for his love and Allison for her life.

Klaus goes from a real mess in season 1 to the one that’s dealing better with all this shit, while Allison goes from the person who had her shit together to the most unstable one. Allison lived her first life getting everything she wanted and when she looses her “things” she acts like the spoiled brat she’s always been(the scorpion). We know she got her husband, her carrer and control over her daughter by using her powers. Why are we really surprised that she’s doing anything to get it back?

In season 3 we understand why Reginald adopted 7 kids. In season one, they said that when Ben died, eveyone went their separate ways, so Reginald got him back, so he could unite the families, as he said he did to said Ben by the 10th episode of this season. If loosing a kid would fuck up his plans, he would’ve got more, but he didn’t did him?

And for those who wanted more of the sparrows this season, I must remind you that Reginald walks around with an umbrella, not with birds. Birds are nice, they are part of this scenary, but they’re not as useful as an umbrella. We see birds through all seasons and they are, indeed, important. But they are pieces to take the umbrellas where they need to go, to make the umbrellas do what they had to do, little pieces of Reginald’s game. And they “flew away” after doing what they needed to do.

first season we had Agnes, who loved birds. Second season has Harlan always holding a little wooden bird. And the third season has the sparrow academy. Every one of these “birds” came in handy by the next season. Hazel takes that video to Five because Agnes asked. Harlan saves them from Christopher. And I’m pretty sure Sparrow Ben (and probably Sloane too) are gonna be fundamental next season.

Specially since we kinda got that feeling that Season 1 was about Luther, with the moon and beins a leader, Season 2 was about Diego, being his own batman and saving the president (also seeking revenge from his father) and Season 3 with Allison’s need for control and for things to go her way. Next one is Klaus’s, who’s been preparing himself since the first season.

Now he’s lost everything again, right? Scoup after scoup after scoup. Like he’s menudo being eaten. Brother, Lover, Mother and Power, or even the Void, where he likes to be and where he believes is his place, his found home. And Ben, his best friend and possibly lover, is back but not really but yes. I’m pretty sure he will try to stick to Ben and this is gonna be fundamental by the end. Why? Because even though Ben “is with them” now, he is not, just like in season 1. And what saves them from those armed guys is Klaus and Ben working together. I’m sure this was foreshadowed there. in season 3 Klaus was again responsible for uniting them all by the end of the season.

I think the main point is understanding that everything they’ve been through was to make them go into Oblivion with Reggie. They had no other choice. Both previous seasons happened so the third could happen. Every little detail.

Luther died because he voted against going to Oblivion because he met sloane because he was kidnapped because Marcus went missing because they caused a paradox because they were never born because Viktor saved Harlan because he ended up in Sissy’s place because he lost his memorys because he destroyed the moon because Luther decided to attack him against Allison’s will because she lost her voice because she fount out about Harold Jenkings because Diego got info on him because he was friends with Patch who died because Cha-cha and Hazel kidnapped Klaus because he was high because that’s how he coped with his powers because Reginald trumatized him because he wanted to control him and because he needed to be helped out of the pills he took because Pogo left him because he wanted to get the kids to the oblivion because he wanted to reset the universe. And you can do this with everything in this fucking show. and this is only possible to notice when you’ve seen the three timelines.

It’ like Reginald set up all those domino pieces and every move they make happens exacly acording to his plan.

In first season when we see the flashback of the day Five got lost in time, there are two things to pay attention to: Reginald explains time travel in a way that would only make sense to those who had traveled already and he doesn’t even try getting up to go after him when he runs off. Five is the one sibling Reginald worked to have a high self steem, for him to disobey him and try time traveling, so he gets lost, so he comes back, so he guide his siblings to new 2019, so they go to oblivion. Old Five saying to little Five to not save the world is his way of trying to stop Reginald. The comission exists to try and kill little Five to stop Reginald. why? I don’t know lol Some things just don’t make sense... until they do.

My point being that 1st and 2nd seasons kinda end in themselves in a nice way, but the third opens the wound again and we can better understand things we understood on them.

Before I stop, I just wanted to point out that when Five meets Reginald in 1963, he recites Homer. Reginald reads it to Pogo: “ Sing in me, Muse, and through me tell the story of that man skilled in all ways of contending, the wanderer, harried for years on end-- “ and stops there. The wanderer is Reginald, who’s seen many universes colapsing (he tells that to Five by the Obsidian Hotel). The Muse is his wife. Ulisses leaves Ithaca to fight in Troy and keeps trying to get back home to Penelope, his wife, who’s patiantly waiting for him.

The poem says: “He saw the townlands/ and learned the minds of many distant men, /and weathered many bitter nights and days/ in his deep heart at sea, while he fought only/ to save his life, to bring his shipmates home.” , and just as much this could be about Reginald, this could also be about Five. Maybe especially about Five, since it continues:

“But not by will nor valor could he save them, / for their own recklessness destroyed them all “

When I finished the first season, I had exacly this image in my mind: Five was trying so hard to save his “shipmates”, but their impatience, lack of comunication, anger, recklessness destroyed the world.

The umbrellas are at this boat together, trying to navigate Reginald’s waters. At times they have to deal with sirens(Harold Jenkins, JFK, drugs), at times they have to be invisible to scape a ciclops(Dead Ben, Five blinking, Allison in 1963), at times they would get high in a strange magic island(the wedding, high luther, high klaus) or deal with their own delusional lust (Allison in wherever it is that she’s at). But they are just trying to get home. To rule their own life.

(Ulisses is a King, for those who didn’t know)

Anyway, I felt like this season gave me this feeling that even if we are watching it from afar, we don’t have the whole picture yet, for it’s four or even five dimensional.

the frickin roach on the s3 TUA posters has been bugging me so much since the Klaus poster

and now its there in the offical poster of the season climbing out of the crack in the floor near Klaus and im so. Frustrated. That I can't. Figure it out !!

what does that bug mean ??? it Must be important because it keeps appearing. Is it another one of Klaus' powers or maybe a threat to him? or is it foreshadowing of his fate in the season ?????

I wonder if one of the reasons Reginald considered Klaus his greatest disappointment and insisted that he had only scratched the surface of what hes capable of is because Reg was hoping Klaus could bring back whoever that lady he loved in S1 was

Would explain why Klaus is the only character we see being ‘trained’ by Reg in the trailer

Maybe his interest in Klaus’ abilities is their chance to escape the hotel? And Klaus pretends to move over to the sparrow side to save his siblings?

So, I'm not good with theories so I'll just tell you guys some details and you think on the theories you want

First thing: Pennsylvania

There is a pennsylvania sticker on Klaus' suitcase and on that pictures from a scene of Five in a car there was a map of pennsylvania

Second thing: Klaus is barefoot (again)

I don't remember right now if Klaus was barefoot on the posters of other seasons but I don't think so

In the other s3 posters he is barefoot too

Does this implice that Klaus is discovering that he has telecinesis when he is barefoot like in the comics? I hope so

Third thing: the Hotel Oblivion sticker

Luther, Diego and Klaus have a Hotel Oblivion sticker

And Allison, who has this "O" in cursive

It took me a while to realise that this is an "O" from "Oblivion", probably

Lila and Viktor have a Hotel Obsidian sticker

And Five don't have any Hotel Sticker

Fourth thing: the Comission sticker

Five and Lila have a sticker that says "the comission paradox protocols", probably because they worked for Comission

And is this paradox a psychosis parodox, idk

TUA spoilers!!!

Allison is dead. As we know from Netflix, someone died this season. Well, a lot of people died this season.

But here’s why I think Allison is currently dead.

1) that promotion.

Not only does it say that someone doesn’t survive this season, but it also happens to be an Allison reference.

2) Allison’s ending.

If the timeline was reset, that means everything that the academy did/has done, would be undone, correct? So, technically speaking Allison’s ending would not make sense as Ray is from the past, therefore changing the timeline if he was moved to the future.

It also doesn’t make sense how she’s there meanwhile her siblings are all coming out of the elevator together (minus sloane who is also missing)

Not to mention, Reginald set up the new timeline. With how he tricked Klaus into doing what he wants, it wouldnt surprise me if the way he was gonna give Allison a life with Claire and Ray was by taking her life completely. This also would’ve guaranteed Reginald that Allison would definitely not come after him for killing her family. He’s selfish like that.

As Klaus mentions when him and Luther are in heaven together, the bouncy house was someone’s “version” of heaven. So this was Allison’s version. It would not screw up the timeline by bringing Ray into the future because like… they’re not alive. Not to mention that Ray says she’s home where she belongs. If the timeline reset??? how would??? Ray know she was gone??? Wouldn’t technically everything be reset? There was no possible way Ray would’ve known what was going on enough to give her that type of confirmation. I’m thinking maybe we’ll see Allison resurrected next season or something maybe.

The other siblings are dead.

This is mainly one just because they lost their powers, luther was there although he was just dead, and sloane disappeared (maybe she survived?). Also there’s Reginald and his dead wife as well. However I don’t know if they’d kill basically all of their characters. Who knows.

We’ll hopefully see next season. maybe no one is dead but idk if I trust Allison’s ending fully bc it doesn’t make sense. I’m grieving the Allison from s1 and s2. I don’t want her to be dead but I also can’t stand her character anymore ( the rumoring luther thing). So I’m feeling very mixed feelings about her possible death rn

Gonna be honest in the nicest way possible I have 0 clue who this kid is, he’s probably in the comic and I’ve forgotten him or something and if he’s not my other idea was that he’s one of the 47 kids and has some ability tied to his looks maybe shapeshiftnig or something like that, maybe he just dosent age or ages slowly but I’m excited to see what he does! If it is the hotel he might be a guest or a receptionist or like a bell boy or something.

Not much to say in the Klaus Alison and Diego one, honestly I kind of hole these three aren’t alone I kinda wanna see the siblings all together more rather than the usual two or more teams doing separate things but I get the feeling we’ll be getting alot of that this

Also I just think this is a scene where Reginald talks to the sparrow or like a sparrow training scene or something I wish I had more to say about it but I really don’t

Viktor is literally my favourite human ever hes just amazing also my first thought is that this is probably either like Viktor just after cutting his hair and coming out to Alison talking about Raymond and her daughter

I want more of these two actually no I demand more of these two they’re amazing and I love them

Is he going out to touch Christopher? Cause that’s the vibes I’m getting BUT ALSO WHY DOES IT LOOK LIKE WHERE VIKTOS CHAMBER IS

I don’t have much theory other than their in hotel oblivion or a very fancy normal hotel but I just really like this photo and I want more them and more sibling relationships

TUA theory time! People most likely beat me to it already, but here we go

Detail 1: The direction

Diego, Five and Lila are the only people who aren't facing front in the posters. Idk about you, but the direction they're facing can mean something. It always does. They could be working together again. It parallels them teaming up in S2, so that would be cool.

Detail 2: The briefcases

Whoever has briefcases down might have meaning as well. Allison, Lila and Diego have them down, and they are sitting. We know that those standing and holding the briefcases up will split from the family, and go somewhere outdoors.

Oh, they are definately going somewhere.

There's a possibility that Klaus and Five would go see the world's biggest ball of twine. Luther and Viktor appeared to have seen something... Surprising outside. Though, Idk where they were in that "first look" photo.

Detail 3: The stickers

They all have names of places on their briefcases. There have been theories circulating that those are their birth places.

Some of them have the same stickers in their briefcases. Everyone except Five and Allison have a Hotel Obsidian or "H+O 1920" sticker.

Lila and Five both have "The Commission | Paradox Protocols" stickers.

Allison's 3rd sticker could be a symbol representing something in the show (maybe a place?), the hotel (O), the number 6, or an ability (Five's or Allison's)

Five's umbrella sticker isn't positioned upright.

Viktor's Hotel Obsidian sticker has a book symbol at the center, and words around the circle (so does Klaus).

Could the book be Reginald's? If he discovers another book that holds secrets (possibly about the Sparrows and the Hotel), this would be a parallel to when he found out about the truth of himself in S1.

I'm unable to make out the words aside from the Hotel's name (possibly fake name or another hotel that they mistake for Oblivion), "[?] luggage"? (Klaus' briefcase) and "The [?] street" (Viktor's briefcase).

Edit: Thank you @leave-the-pot-dear and @galaxyyy-stars for pointing out that Klaus' sticker says "guest luggage".

How easy I think it would be for the Umbrellas to win the Sparrows + Grace Over

From easiest to hardest:

Grace

As previously theorized, I don’t think Grace cares for the Sparrows one bit. If Diego just goes “mom 🥺💖?” at her once she’ll be convinced to jump ship and be these new people’s mom instead.

Sloane

I feel like we know the least about Sloane’s personality, but if she’s anything at all like Genesis (at least according to what I saw in the geeked week interview), then she might be the sweetest/quietest Sparrow. She is also “a romantic and a dreamer who feels a higher cosmic calling” according to the casting announcement. All of this put together makes me think she’ll probably be the first Sparrow to abandon Reggie, or at least she’ll be the first to mentally abandon him, even if it takes a little longer for her to physically do it (maybe once another Sparrow is on her side she’ll leave with them).

Marcus

I know in the treadmill scene Marcus seemed to be the one convincing the Sparrows to become the Umbrella’s rivals, but Marcus also seems like the most level-headed one of the group and probably the only one with a bullshit detector. I think he’ll come around pretty fast.

Fei

We also don’t see a ton of Fei in the promo material. While she’s obviously willing to use her powers on the Umbrellas with minimal hesitation in the trailer, according to the casting announcement, she “wishes she had a friend.” I think once she realizes who the Umbrellas really are, she might ditch Reg.

Alphonso

Alphonso seems to like Ben and Jayme, who I think will be the hardest to convince, and he might care about those bonds over what’s right. He also just seems pretty down to fight whoever Ben doesn’t like.

Jayme

Jayme just seems mean. She might just be the kind of person who would stick by Ben and antagonize the Umbrellas for the hell of it.

Ben

Sparrow!Ben is a prideful son-of-a-bitch, and admitting that he’s wrong is nigh impossible for him. It’s gonna take one hell of a heartfelt conversation to convince Ben to team up with the Umbrellas. Also, of course, it would make the most sense from an emotional perspective to have Ben be the last holdout.

Christopher is kind of impossible to guess so idk for him

alright, since I’m 100% pro Sparrow Ben x Klaus, I’ll make my case

no one asked, but, hey, who cares?

First of all, it is stabilished in season one that these “siblings” did at times had romantic relationships with one another since they were raised as in some kind of institution, not as a family. If you’re gonna yell at me, call me names whatsoever, you shouldn’t be watching this show at all.

Second, again about the “incest” thing, when they find out Lila is one of the october 1st children, they say “she’s one of them” and that they can be her family since the handler is a terrible person and would kill her. Is Diego and Lila’s relationship incestuous? nop :)

and Third, sparrow Ben, just like Lila (who is in a romantic relationsip with Diego), did NOT grow up with the main characters. He’s known them for what, a week? more or less, yeah. He does not see any of them as siblings.

And although most the umbrellas are like “nyaah I wanna look at your face cuz you look like our brother :3″, you know who is the only one who doesn’t do that after realising he is not the old Ben? YOU GUESSED RIGHT, KLAUS!

My Fourth point is that Klaus know his brother Ben is gone and says that with all it’s words in the second episode. “Ben is gone”, and that’s one of the main reasons he decides to look for his mother, because he never had a place for him, only by Ben’s side and now he is feeling alone. Klaus DOES NOT see Ben2 as his brother at all.

(I’m personally not into shiping Ben6 with Klaus, but I respect who is, as you can read why in my first point)

Now we have another thing from the show to back up my “there’s nothing wrong with shipping them”: After in season one Luther having a thing with Allison, who he grew up with, now he’ going out and GETTING MARRIED TO one Hargreeves. He’s literally marrying Ben’s sister and that’s not a big deal. It’s fast and kinda dumb? yeah, but it’s super in character and they both just hit it of so well.

Then why there are people in this fandom saying it’s wrong to ship Klaus and Ben2? Their relationship is the same as Luther ans Sloane’s!

I call it: H O M O P H O B I A

When straight people can do something but if gays do the same it’s wrong there’s NO OTHER NAME for it. And if you feel its sickening shiping Klaus and Ben2, you should feel sick about both of Luther’s romances ans just leave the fandom and the show behind lol

Now I’ll go back to defending my couple because that’s what I’m here for <3 (and if i can make you guys see how much of assholes you’ve been by shaming people’s ships, thats a bonus)

We all know that Ben is starved for recognition and being valuable and all that. And we also know he is some kind of Tsundere. But I need you to focus.

Been wants to be seen. And I’m sure he feels weird when these six people appear at his living room out of nowhere and look at him with loving eyes not even his own sibling have shown him. and when he understands he is the spitten image of someone they love, he gets pissed.

Those people want to look at him, not know him. They don’t really care about who he is as a person, they see him as a ghost. He’s there, but they’re not looking at him.

When he meets Klaus again, only at the wedding episode, Klaus doesn’t look at him as a pictureframe. Klaus finally tells him something about Ben6 and gives him support, for he is feeling lonely. And Klaus understands about lonely, that’s why he is a fucking supportive person to those around him. Just this season, he defends Lila from beeing left out, he tells Five he’s a good brother, he gives love and attention to Reginald, he looks after Stan ans listen to him. Klaus is this kind of person so we know that when he gives Ben attention, he’s not doing it because he looks like Ben6, he knows they aren’t the same person, he just wants to help.

Also, Klaus is also the only unbrella who only talks about Ben6 to Ben2 after he asks him, all the others throw comparrisons here and there.

And I believe this is the main reason they have a good time together at the wedding. Becausa Klaus treats Ben as his own person, not as Ben6′s ghost. He is not dancing with his dead brother, He’s dancing with this asshole who just showed him that he wants to be loved somehow.

You see how they’re friendly with each other, how Klaus is guiding him to be close to the others. Ben2 is not stupid, he can see that these idiots have so much love between them in a way he never could share with his powerfull “family”. We can see how he and Klaus are touchy, phisical.

Another point before I go on that I feel the NEED to point out is the fact that sparrow Ben is queer coded. The way he dresses, the way he speaks, the way he stands... He is like a “mean girl gay”. Like, the first thing he says to Klaus is a ironic compliment to his hat. And his last line in the show is “I’M OUT, BITCHES!”

Ben2 is a queer man.

And after all that “arm in arm, Klaus laying on his lap” scene, the nex time we’ll see them after they left together is when they wake up. one on top of the other lol.

They’re not sleeping together? no, but look at the semiotics of this scene with me for a second: Ben wakes up laying on top of a pool table. He is shirtless and the first thing he looks for Klaus. Klaus is laying beneath the said table, on the floor, wearing a coat that is not his (that matches Ben’s pants) and his underwear, nothing else.

If you’ve never read some BL comics in your live, lemme tell you this: many many times when men are fucking, specially in corean BL comics, the man who tops fucks the other while wearing only his pants. And usually when this happens, the bottom is wearing only his shirt or coat. Can you see where I’m getting at?

And when they wake up, they are really friendly with each other, even Ben is smiling and being sweet UNTIL, pay attention, until Klaus does the dick move of telling him he knew Ben2 had something of Ben6 in him. Ben2 gets pissed and leaves.

Later, when Luther is talking to Five, Five says “everyone was boning everyone last night”. What means more than a couple was fucking. Alright, the married couple, who else? Crazy Allison? Sad Viktor? Five, who has a childs body? Reginald? That guy from the lobby? none of those had a person to fuck and Luther knew that. “Ben hooked up with someone?” and that someone could only be Klaus. (I admit I forgot about Lila and Diego, sorry, but my point stands for the way Five said it, it was not just the usual amount of fucking. It was more)

When we see them together again, They’re sitting at the same chair/couch/wathever is the name of that thing. Klaus is leaning agains the middle part towards Ben and is in a confortable position we havent seen him doing close to Ben2. He tries to make eye contact some times, he shakes his legs in front of him. Ben is giving him the back. It’s still the lingering of the previous scene.

and that elevator scene? It’s short, but you can see the same “please forgive me, love” we’ve seen whyle Regiland is talking about the cave. It’s not that Ben dislikes Klaus, he is hurt. And for a second he is also hurt when he hears of Klaus’ death, but he’s just not built for feeling.

Then he has this argument with Sloane where we can see he is jealous of her finding a place where she belongs to. Ben and Klaus both long for belonging. (and in this episode both are not feeling it, they both don’t wanna do what they’re suposed to do and have one of the newlyweds fight them for it)

And when he learns dad killed Klaus he goes off. He is between his father and Klaus, who is HOLDING HIS FUCKING RIGHT HAND OVER HIS LEFT CHEST. It’s the final straw.

And till the end of the series we are always shown their reactions: one’s after the other’s. Klaus wakes from the dead again, Ben get’s up. Klaus steps on the star, Ben is the next to do so.

Ben leaves as soon as Klaus leaves after Luther.

You can disagree about the romantic thing if you don’t ship them, but you must agree 1 Klaus is already dear to Ben2 and 2 It’s plausible and OK to ship them

(also, their ship number is 42 which means they’re the answer to the question)
