25.01.2022 a little look at my day! i spent most of it in the library, alternating between writing my dissertation and researching my beowulf essay - i also had two palaeography classes in the afternoon! one practicing transcription and the other on types of early medieval library. now curled up in bed with a cup of tea & a ghibli film ready to keep at it tomorrow 😴

And I’m back! Sorry for being mia, but life happens, I guess. So... Denmark is in lockdown again over Christmas so for the entirety of December I’ve been having virtual classes, which sucks just as much as I remembered, but rather that then get corona. We have slowly but surely started to get ready for our SRP, which is the biggest assignment you have to Wright in high school in Denmark! I’m writing about mathematical logic and argumentation in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, so if anyone has any references to that, sont be scared to hit me up hahah. I’m reading Fahrenheit 451 for my materclass, and my sister has made me the cutest bookmark :’). Other wise I have been spending my quarantine knitting sweaters for my self and everyone else basically, and I’ve been chilling with this fella. (I asked him nicely for a photo and he pulled this pose. A goddamn model if you ask me)
I hope that everyone of you are staying safe during these hard times, and that you are getting some joy out of the holiday season 🥰

day 2/10 of productivity
cute lil snapshot of one of my fave parts of my bedroom (super hard to choose tho!)
kinda a wild day today. brought my car in to get an estimate on getting some stuff fixed, which'll be more than anticipated. my phone also has decided to not let the instacart shopped app work on data so i'm gonna be missing out on income, but i'll figure it out! i got to spend time with my best friend throughout the day and that really helped me deal with the stress
since working for the day was a wash, i cooked up dinner for myself and my roomie, am planning out my to do list for the next few days and watching the new birds of prey movie (waaaaay better than the first!!!)
currently reading: wax by gina damico
currently listening to: you're wrong about podcast
{image description: a photo of part of otto's bedroom. there is a small cork board with 5 post cards on it, including one featuring the title and logo of the podcast "alice isn't dead." there's a string of fairy lights down the left of the photo. below the cork board is a low cabinet. on top of it is a framed piece of paper, a lava lamp, a candle, a plate of crystals, a box of matches, a glass with used matches, a glass jar with dried flower buds in it, and a red glass jar with incense in it.}

27.01.2022 the first (and only) day off i'll be taking from dissertation work today! exhaustion really caught up with me while i was writing the beowulf essay this afternoon, so it turned out kinda rushed and messy... but at the end of the day that's all fine! the importance of these weekly essays lies more in the discussions with my supervisor than in the content of the essay itself, so i'm sure when the meeting happens tomorrow it will be very productive and enlightening

07.11.2021 a glimpse at some of the deco i've set up in my room this year! i have a lot of questions about the decision to put shelves on the corkboard, but i think i've made it work okay. this week's essay is on the development of writing in medieval iceland, which i've managed to sneakily turn into more about linguistics than palaeography... fingers crossed my prof is flexible with that one. at the very least it's a super interesting topic! wishing everyone a good week to come <3

10.03.2022 finally made it to the end of term! pictured are a page from an essay i wrote on viking age burials and some of the books i've been working with this term for my old norse paper. the last week of term is always the most hectic, but this morning i've been in a meeting about the modules we can take in our final year & had my last old norse lecture of the year (we don't get taught new content in the summer term - just exam preparation). that's all for today, so i can have a quiet afternoon! still left to go next week are some language classes, a library visit to get hands-on with medieval manuscripts (!!!), and the last lecture of the year on viking age sweden. time is really flying by at the moment!

01.11.2021 some glimpses of a cosy working morning - my (unfinished) plan for the palaeography essay i'm writing today & a view of the college chimneys and chapel tower in the sunlight (feat. an embroidery hoop i've stencilled but am yet to stitch). not too many tasks today; i have to finish this essay, attend an afternoon old english translation class, and draft the abstract of my dissertation for my supervisor to check over. the title has settled down as 'models of masculinity in the old norse skáldasögur', and i'm pretty excited to start writing it proper over the christmas break! wishing everyone a relaxed and happy start to november <3

11.05.2021 old court + chapel tower vs. cripps court brutalism in the golden hour. had old norse & palaeography revision workshops this morning (interrupted by a thunderstorm), walked along the river to feed the ducks (and spy some little goslings!) this afternoon, and now cosying up to spend the evening finishing my essay plan on the wisdom of past ages in alfredian prose literature. wishing everyone a lovely day too!

29.05.2021 some evening views of the college, along the river and in one of the old courts. we've had our first warm summer day here after a couple weeks of patchy grey weather, so everyone has relocated their studying to the parks and gardens to soak up the rays. my first exams are next week, back to back, but rather than cramming in some weekend revision i've decided to just take some time off to rest up, lest i overwork and get burnout during the exams themselves. relaxing by the river today and cooking some home comforts for dinner tomorrow! everything is going pretty smoothly for once

16.07.21 first sunny week since i got home from uni! i’m mostly taking a break from studying throughout july, but next week i have my first dissertation meeting & that will be my main work focus for august and september. i’m also slowly working on a script for a play for a new writing festival in october, which is quite exciting, as well as going back to practising all the languages i love but let go of a little when uni started - but most of all i’m just enjoying good weather and a new name 🏳️‍⚧️

Well hello there, long time no see hahah. I just wanted to start with saying a massive thank you to all my 1011 followers!!! That’s a fuck ton of people hahah! Honestly, when I made this blog I didn’t think I would even get 100 followers so THANK YOU!! I love all of you with my entire heart 🥺
Anyway! Life for the past month has been quite hectic, with school being stressful, miss Rona going to town here in Denmark and the winter depression slowly creeping up on me... but we’re powering through! I had an extra French midterm today, and I think that it went okay! And what more can you ask for 🤷🏼‍♀️
An exciting thing!! I’ve been accepted into my school’s masterclass in English movies and literature, so I’m really pumped about that! We had our first session yesterday where we watched and discussed The Shining (pls don’t kill me,,, but the book is so superior to the movie in my opinion omg). Now we’re reading To Kill a Mockingbird and are going to discuss that in November! And I’m really excited.
We had autumn break last week, and it was very much needed hahah. I did nothing except knit, read and watch movies. A perfect week! I have found that the only problem with knitting is that you can’t read while doing it :( (at least I can’t). I hope October is (trick!) and treating all of you well! We deserve it :)

School starts in a week and I’m not ready at all. Most of my teachers have already posted the assignments for the year, so I’ve written them all down so I don’t loose track! I can already tell that chemistry is going to kick my butt this year, but oh well. The good things are that summer is starting to return to Denmark after a very gloomy July, and that I have this fella to keep me company

10.05.2021 the last essay of term is on alfredian prose, which - though very important to the course + the historical period - is also super dry and kind of tiring to get through, especially after having worked on poetry for the past few essays before this. at least when i'm done i can finally pack this little book away and focus solely on my revision! exams start on the first of june, and although the earliest one is the exam for my favourite paper (old norse) i still feel very underprepared and overwhelmed
as an aside disclaimer, i neither support nor enjoy the use of the term 'anglo-saxon' (it's racist, it's hilariously historically inaccurate, and all in all a very poor way to talk about medieval england), it's just a frustrating reality of the field that the vast majority of published academics - especially those writing for the public, as this book is - continue to cling to it against all reason. to balance that out a tiny bit, here's a handy twitter thread of resources and readings on antiracism & medieval studies for all those interested.

My last class got cancelled today, so I got to go home early, and just spent the afternoon reading. I’ve been reading It lately, and so far I’m loving it! I really love Stephen King, he’s truly a phenomenal writer (would highly recommend hahah). This fella have been feeling a bit sick lately, so I think he appreciated lying in bed chilling just as much as I did. It’s needed when the senioritis has already hit three weeks into the school year.

05.05.21 oxfam was having a clearance sale on their moomin goods yesterday, so of course i had to grab as many books as possible (plus a bookmark and pin badge, not pictured). had a very stressful old norse revision class yesterday as well - it's my favourite paper on the course, but the professor is quite terrifying. otherwise there has been journaling, preparing more revision resources, and reading for my final essay of the year! all both productive and relaxing
