a brain busted lunacy letter to:
YOU AND UR VERY OWN HUMAN EYES- READING THIS RIGHT NOW
+ tumblr,
I need each and every one of you to pls hear me out: i want you to feel it too. Remember long form content? Alright, gather your tits. Let’s get into it. 😈 if you remember how to read … come down there and see it for yourself.
hey you little bag of flesh meat, cartridge, water and electricity… come closer i said… 🙂
I deeply find the tumblr space, as a whole, so vitally valuable to our current society. I, like all of you, have painstakingly enjoyed sifting, repurposing, creating, and displaying a woven unique tapestry… mine is currently over 10 years long. A historical virtual “scroll” 📜… Manila ironic in the worst way: the scroll 🤳🏾 that consumes us.
Tumblr media
This isn’t MINDLESSLY scrolling… it feels like… peaking penetratingly into the minds of human beings through their own perceptions.
Tumblr media
Every fucking photo, gif, text post, meme, story, song, collage, any and all of it … was put there purposely. Everything … means something to someone here. That’s … fucking incredible.
That’s … fucking human magic. 🪄 something no other social media platform can recreate in the world of TikTok’s, we remained tumblr.
Tumblr media
Every single mf time I find a new blog or revisit a mutual’s blog… and I just burst with color and vibrance and wild wickedness and I … drift… loosing myself in the back of your brains, I’m saved.
Tumblr media
I’m saved from my own brain, trauma, habits, hangups, mental health… I’m just safe.. tucked behind YOUR brain… and they always fucking feel JUST like mine… so thank you.
Tumblr media
I love human beings so much and this is my MOST favorite way to experience them. I’m so fucking happy I haven’t been able to log back into my TIKTOK for months. This is the only place I want to be when I’m online.
Tumblr media
The tumblr scroll is so much more healthy: i see these feeds as very distinct and endlessly versatile flip book of human ingenuity and stupidity and comradery and community stitched together to make a pattern that mirrors a portion of a person… can you imagine? IT’S FASCINATING! I mean I know It’s equally ugly here and often… yet outstandingly but overwhelmingly … this is a safe space for creators and the many fandoms we express and decompress with.
Tumblr media
i remain almost speechless,on the brink of pure pleasure… on how absolutely embedded i am into all of your collective energy on this stupid little imperfectly perfect fucked up little platform.
Look at April Fool’s Day: Tumblr reminded us all.. to just exhale and have fun TOGETHER. Ugh. gut me gently with the sheer scale of talent and genius and curiosity and kindness and skill and silly and authentic and absurd and individual yet succinct creation of … art. Of feed art. 🖼️ the scale and silly of the creativity around that now HOLIDAY, was tremendous and stupid and clever and community and inclusive.
i hope to one day gain support in organizing and leading a team of experts to create a true con for us. i have experience in events and .. I care. 🧠🪄
Tumblr media
tumblr… this … is one of my longest lasting relationships, and i cherish the time so very dearly. From screaming at porn bots to whispering to mutuals… I’m so grateful for all of it.

y'know, back when I used Reddit, if you found some hateful content of any sort, it wasn't that hard to report it. You clicked the "Report" button, selected "Hateful Content" out of the wide variety of options available, and then clicked the "Submit" button. I did this pretty often, because some of the communities I was in attracted rather unsavory characters as a side effect.
Do you know what happened next? Next, I received an automated message that said basically "Hey, thanks for reporting This Content (link to reported content). We've received your report and will review it shortly." Usually, a day or two later, you'd receive another message in your inbox saying "Thanks again for reporting. We found this content in violation of our TOS and have removed it." Sure enough, if you followed the link back to whatever you reported, it would be gone.
It was that easy. No explaining yourself, no explaining yourself again but differently, no redirect to a new tab, you didn't even need to know the specifics of what did or didn't violate TOS. No matter what happened, they would write back and tell you what was going on. If the reported content didn't violate TOS, they would tell you.
When I hopped over here full-time, I continued that reporting habit, thinking it'd be largely the same experience. I have had complete and utter radio silence from @staff on every single report I've ever filed. Have I been making a difference? Is my voice being considered? Who knows! But it certainly hasn't felt like it so far.
At least now I know those reports were going straight into the garbage, rather than just having to wonder.

So let me get this right.
A trans woman was harassed constantly for a while from what I heard were mostly transphobes and transmisogynists.
Said trans woman and multiple other people reported that harassment to tumblr staff. Tumblr staff proceeds to ignore said reports. Trans woman lashes out at staff as they’ve done nothing to mitigate the harassment she’s facing on their platform.
Tumblr CEO personally gets involved to get her account nuked because she made an obviously non-serious post about wishing that said CEO would die in an exploding hammer car accident.
Tumblr CEO then says that there is no transmisogyny at Tumblr staff because he himself doesn’t think it’s transphobic. He then proceeds to not acknowledge that the trans woman who‘s account he nuked was harassed and that Tumblr staff simply allowed it to happen due to the fact that she was a trans woman. Oh he also either already contacted the FBI & police to investigate said trans woman or threatened to despite what she said not being an actual death threat in the slightest.
The trans woman‘s backup account get‘s nuked as well despite Tumblr staff never really banning alt accounts for trolls or harassers showing a clear double standard again and showing that this seems to be a personal thing for the CEO.
CEO then continued having a meltdown talking about how good and trans-inclusive the totally not transmisogynistic staff members are and how some of them are trans themselves while continuing to not address the actual issue at all.
CEO then says nighty night while still having not addressed the actual issue at hand.
I think I got most of that right but I haven’t known of Predstrogen before this drama so most of the info is not from direct sources (except the CEO meltdown he did that all *very* publicly). If I‘m wrong on any point here please correct me.

by listing predstrogens sideblogs, matt is EXPOSING INFORMATION THAT IS ONLY VISIBLE AT AN ADMINISTRATOR LEVEL. under regular circumstances, you CANT see another users sideblogs. as per TUMBLRS PRIVACY POLICY. violating this is tantamount to a data breach like sharing someones password. a hacker might stuff your credentials and publish the names of your sideblogs to a pastebin — but this is a high-profile ceo digging into the database of his website to pull out confidential data and PUBLICALLY ANNOUNCE IT to slander someone for a personal vendetta. this would be a clear violation of privacy laws in my country and hes out of his mind

PSA - Things You Cannot Say On Tumblr
Hi, I'm a tumblr user. Did you know that it's illegal to say "i hope photomatt dies forever" on tumblr?
It's illegal! It's a TOS violation. It's one of the only sentences that you're not allowed to say.
It was ok for me to say it right then, because I'm not actually saying it, I'm just letting you know it's illegal to say. Kind of like a public service. I'm letting you know, so that you don't accidentally go out and say something like that.
But what's interesting is that while it's very illegal to say "I hope photomatt dies forever a painful death" (that's illegal, extremely illegal, very very illegal), it's not illegal to say "involving a car covered in hammers that explodes" - because that's it's own sentence!
It's an incomplete sentence, sure, but it may have nothing to do with any previous sentence before it. So, that's perfectly fine. Perfectly fine.
However, I also found out that it's incredibly illegal to go on tumblr and directly criticise photomatt for tumbling ass-first into an overtly transmisogynistic mass-reporting harassment incident and deciding to side with the harassers. INSANELY ILLEGAL! Ridiculously, recklessly, insanely illegal!
It is yet more illegal to post a series of images involving cars and hammers:
Tumblr media
ILLEGAL! They will come to your blog in the middle of the night an ban you for life. Extremely against the law.
Uh, one thing that is still technically legal to do is post a string of emojis related to cars, hammers, and explosions in the tags of your post.
Yes, this is an extended bit based on the WKUK 'I want to kill the president" sketch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg3_kUaYFJA

Here's the thing about engagement that staff doesn't seem to get here:
Tumblr is built around reblogs.
On other social media, original posts are the core of the site. Retweets are common but they're more conversational. Instagram doesn't have it at all. On tumblr, most people are reblogging more than they're posting on their own. It's a scrapbook of our own thoughts and photos mixed with other people's.
That's how you grow a follow list. Search a tag or, as was pointed out in a previous post, get a couple of recommendations upon registering and voila, you will find blogs, and then on those blogs you will see links to hundreds of other blogs because that first blog is interacting with them.
If you look at the last ten posts on my blog, only two are solely from me, and the rest are interactions with other blogs. So anyone who is visiting my blog for the first time and looking through it will find 12 other blogs to potentially check out just from looking at those ten posts.
Finding new content is not that hard.

Gee whiz I sure love having an account on one of the most embarrassing sites on the internet. First the half-hearted porn ban, which still doesn't make any goddamn sense and is so embarrassing and cruel, (Literally you fucked up artists and artist incomes for nothing, morons) then months of flagging sfw posts as nsfw, then trans people seemingly getting marked as nsfw when not, then the CEO is banning a transwoman instead of heeding her reports she's getting mass reported and stalked.
You can permaban someone for an unfortunate slip but can't ban the nazis and terfs?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also fyi it's fucking disturbing to say someone could call themselves a nazi and be fine. What the actual fuck is wrong with you. Just working on being Elon Musk 2.0. I bet you idolize him too don't you.
Cohost, the website, is a million times better than this site and I can't recommend it enough. They have sane nsfw filters and a very similar but even better featureset to tumblr. Oh and the staff are nice people and queer people are directly on staff. No corporate bullshit unlike this place.
https://cohost.org/rc/welcome
Can't get over the nsfw ban, especially the terms of it. Someone can talk about wanting to be smoten in incredibly nsfw text posts but a transwoman can't post breasts *or apparently even sfw timeline* without getting banned.
Tumblr media
This isn't a transwoman causing a scuffle, this is your leadership sucking for goddamn years.
Literally just call us faggots and get it over with, you don't fucking support the LGBT community if you don't support nsfw. Corporate rainbow icon ass bullshit. Fuck you.

Tumblr Live: it’s not that serious. By BorderlineBelle
Literally I met mutuals of 10+ years on tumblr live.
The hatred over tumblr live was over the top and insane… it truly wasn’t that serious.
If you can stand to be thought critiqued, stay. 🙂
Yes, they robbed us of all our personal info, that’s our choice. Basically.. that’s every single app ever. Wake up. Everyone is just choosing their daddy to participate in this society, which exists ONLINE in equal measure.
Ya’ll bend over to SOME cloud daddy collection somewhere.. unless all your family photos hit printer ink 🫨 why is this the hill you were willing to die on?
Tumblr Live was good.
People hung out, did hobbies, met mutuals, discussed old and new tumblr, made new friends, shared art and music and passion and hobbies…
Before the flood of MeetMe folks… (which was awful. as an OG… I get it) .. it was a chill place to hang out.
The active and consistent and LOUD trolls made it so negative and latched on and like the USUAL TUMBLR PIRANHAS… wouldn’t let it GO.
You made a hashtag and shopped it day and night. Like why???
#TurnOffTumblrLive … was wild.
I consider myself part of the few who supported EVERY FANDOM.. kinda 😅. I’ve been on tumblr for my whole life and before that and I try to be a GOOD community member!
I wasn’t actively working for every fandom 😅 but if it was a high holy holiday of your fandom or a meme or a joke that was so popular it circulated into the main highways of tumblr… that needed spreading… I of course let it roll across my dashboard. I reblogged your top chosen artists and musicians, whomever your communities had chosen … we supported. I supported. As a bit of an outliner. A sad girl yadda yadda mentally ill and sexy… screaming into the void at the porn bots 🤷🏽‍♀️ it was a niche trust me… but I did and do participate with positivity even if I didn’t get the joke.
And … YOU ALL… BURIED AND KICKED AROUND tumblr live as if she was a DiLaurentis triplet. 🤧
Tumblr media
It was way overboard imo. 🤧💅🏽
Some people used tumblr live for good. 👁️👁️
Then the REALLY determined trolls harassed the poor CEO guy and we ALL KNOW HE’s STRESSED. His hair is thinning. We can see it and ya’ll demand and do too much. i hope to one day sit with the man and say, “you’re doing mostly, kind of .. a fine job.” 👍🏽😬
Tumblr, in general, is one of the few places left on the interweb that maintains the primary basic deliciousness of self expression through the works of others. It remains from LONG AGO.
Don’t fucking ruin the overall umbrella of the tumblr space… with deep… leaving funny and entering disturbing… cynicism.
Tumblr media
Remember the LISTEN to OTHER pov’s too. 🤷🏽‍♀️🙂
Real people exist behind the cameras.
That’s all.
I’m glad it’s gone too.
2024 tumblr is gonna be shmexy.

Trans women can express themselves however they please.
Trans women deserve the equal amount of respect that, Cis women receive.
Seriously fuck what Matt thinks, I'm glad i never gave money to this fucking horrific site.
Trans women, I love you. You are safe on my blog.

@sillay-silly-blogz is a damn hypocrite!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sillay, what the hell is this, bro? Are you seriously doing this right now because there is NO WAY someone like you is doing this to other people. The fact that you came onto Mean's page and started bullying them over a DEAD MEME, and screenshotted the argument to gaslight them says a lot about you. And you can't deny this because I have evidence.
I get that @meanbf-777 posted a controversial artwork on their page, but this doesn't give you an excuse to harass them over a stupid post that doesn't inflict harm on anyone.
Like, how are you gonna get mad at someone when they say something rude on YOUR page, but then you go around and do THIS to someone who not once given you a bad name? Unless there is evidence that they started something that nobody else could see, then you may prove otherwise.
This is a classic Kindergarten move.
Don't take this as a form of bullying, this is me saying that you can do better than this! Be the bigger person!

Maybe sometimes, people just need to vent, in their little corners of the internet, to their online friends.
Maybe you're the one who ought to learn that not everything requires your input and that you're much better off minding your own business.

Alright, here it is.
I publicly apologize for being mean and rude to user bogleech.
I was mad and I let my anger get the better of me, and I responded to an anon I should have just deleted. I am legitimately sorry.
I should never have said what I said. The ask has been deleted, and such a thing will never happen again.
Now, if people could stop sending me truly horrifying amounts of anon hate, that would be fantastic. That's not why I am apologizing - I'm apologizing because I did something wrong that I shouldn't have - but it would still be great if that could stop.
(especially the ones calling me ableist for calling delusions delusional, when I myself have had mental illnesses that feature delusions and psychosis, so I know what I'm talking about and am not using the term flippantly. I am literally a pile of mental illnesses and physical disabilities in a trenchcoat. Paleontologists are in fact capable of being disabled. So stop.)
This is a lot more personal shit than I'd rather have in a public post, so I'm going to stop there. And this is the last I'm speaking on the subject.
Thanks.

The Tumblr/AI Deal
Things are early still. While I confess that the appeal for Midjourney and Open AI is baffling to me, such a deal might actually mean an income stream for Tumblr, especially since the whole of internet advertising is increasingly looking like smoke and mirrors.
It's an opt-out system. I have no problem with this. My positions on IP and fair use means I don't have any problems with general scraping of public facing works, so an opt-out system is gravy.
I'm not going to be opting out. I already went in to make sure I wasn't set that way already. If anything, I'll probably be posting more of my analogue work.
My concern is the early report indicates that non-public facing work might have initially been gathered up, though the story seems to indicate it was not transferred to any of the AI companies and that a repackaging is going on, though its vague. This is one of the problems that I had with Adobe. But its too early to tell if A) that problem actually happened or B) said problem is still ongoing, and speculation/rumor has been running wild for too long already.
If you don't want to do it, flip your settings, not the table.
