one important thing to know about baeddels is that the group that started reclaiming "baeddel" first was already hated and stigmatized by much of the site. they formed a small clique around 2010, which grew into several cliques by the time unobject posted the origin of the word "baeddel" in 2013.

prior to 2016 marxist, communist, and anarchist theory was nowhere near as mainstream on this site as it is now. from 2009 maybe up until 2016 fandom was by far the biggest topic of conversation on tumblr. politics generally extended to arguing about representation, stereotypes, and cultural appropriation.

so when a group of angry, socially maligned, and neurodivergent trans women startrd digging in to different kinds of complex leftist and post leftist thought the language of how they spoke about things like nihilism or insurrection or class was used as evidence that they were imherently bad, dangerous, and irredeemable. and that harassment pushed some into wanting trans lesbian separatism, much like the current wave of transmisogyny is pushing trans women to seclude themselves more and is making them more defensive.

now, once unobject, who is latina, which i point out because people always paint baeddels as all being white, unearthed the term she and others started identifying with it, and unobject herself stated that she would not gatekeep the term.

i know there was a post in which unobject said she wouldn't gatekeep who reclaimed baeddel, and i remember the tag she put being "no vanguards sisters ♡", but i can't find it. i think i took a screenshot of it months ago, i'l have to try and dig it up as soon as i can.

in any case, the word baeddel "broke containment" as we would put it now, and started being used by trans women outside the three or four cliques who started using it initially. however, because it had the stigma of being associated with trans women who were already widely hated the stigma spread as well. so using "baeddel" in a url or as an identity was used by transmisogynists as evidence that a trans woman was a bad, predatory person and an acceptable target. thus the word came full circle, as it started to be used as a way to label trans women who could be attacked and ostracized with no repercussions.

the use of "baeddel" as a way to deny trans women help and community has continued well past the existence of the original milieu, and ironically its the insistence on using that term to harm tma people that's getting more and more of them to identify with it. much like reclaiming "dyke" or "fag" in the face of a deeply homophobic society, people are reclaiming "baeddel" for a second time in the face of a deeply transmisogynist society.

Uh, yeah. So it's finally time that I came clear. I once said that I have a ship that I barely tolerate, so.... that NOTP is none other than stsg. I recently block the ship tag here in tumblr, actually. So now that I said this, stsg fans, you're very welcome to block me.

I'll put the rest of my answer under the cut in consideration for the ship fans, since this is definitely not for the fans. Don't say I didn't warn you if you're one of the fans and still continue to read and then get offended

Honestly, this is a thing that has been happening since several months ago. I don't know exactly why, but the western stsg fandom got very loud - to the point that I, who usually can tolerate many things including pairings that I don't ship, became unable to ignore it. Fans today really likes to throw words like "canon" and easily verbally attack people who don't agree.

Anyway, even if Director Park said it, it doesn't really make it actually canon. I still remember Nakata Jouji (I love the man, he's my favorite priest in Fate series), the seiyuu for Naobito, said that Naobito is Maki's father, which later written by Gege to be untrue. Ougi is Maki's actual father. So, unless Gege writes or says it directly, what other people (even staffs) can only be considered as a speculation; since it's their interpretation of the characters, just like we fans do.

It's just when related to a ship, fans always get loud. Remember viz's mistranslation "my one and only" lol? I have long thought since the volume came out that the stsg fans will take it and run with it. And this is just a personal theory, but the loudest one are the one with the smallest crumbs. Itfs is still fed today by gege so we're just content day to day, but stsg currently has nothing in the manga so they get really loud when the smallest crumb drops. It'll pass if you wait, just stay calm lol.

So my intolerance does not come from the ship itself, but from the fans, so yeah. Same, anon, same.

Okay, so, this thought won't leave me alone, so I have decided to finally post it. Fair warning, the post is super long.

It's about Micah Bell from Red Dead Redemption 2.

I'm not new to the Red Dead Fandom. I've been playing the game solidly for nigh on 3 years now, and I adore it. I've played so much red dead that I can turn my map off and find my way around the world. I memorized where most of the hidden loot stashes, dinosaur bones, and rock carvings are. I hardly have to look at the treasure maps to know where my next destination is going to be.

My first playthrough, Micah was my least favorite character. I hated his guts. I had an excellent time during the epilogue and took too many screenshots of me posing next to his dead body.

My second playthrough, because I knew what was going to happen, I harassed him, watched him, and tried to see if there's any way you can change the outcome. On story missions together, I'd chuck dynamite at him.

And suddenly overnight he became my favorite character. I think it's because I love to root for a charismatic villain. I think it's because I was finally noticing little details about him and thinking, oh, that's neat. The creators put a lot of thought into this game. It kind of clicked in Guarma when Micah actually protected the camp instead of laying about doing nothing like he usually does.

So I went looking for content to see if there were other Micah enjoyers out there. I was not surprised to find there were! What I was surprised about was how controversial liking his character made someone.

I've been on tumblr for over a decade (not with an account, I lurked that whole time) and everyone who's been here that long knows two things.

You police yourself. You look at tags that interest you, you block tags you dislike (I'm a little sex repulsed, so I don't like looking at explicit art. Not that the artists aren't talented or that people can't enjoy it! But it's not my cup of tea so I tend to avoid that), and you generally stay in your area of interest.

Fandom and reality stay separate to an extent. Can you have merch of your favorite fandom? Pins and socks and jacket patches? For sure! Can you go to conventions and cosplay as your favorite character? Absolutely, you look fantastic! Can you go harass an actor because you don't like their character? No way! Doing that makes you a shitty person. (Jack Gleeson/Joffrey Baratheon comes to mind)

So I was surprised that so many people decided that liking Micah meant the person was racist or idolized his behavior, which is not what normal, healthy people think.

I am aware that Micah is the villain. I am aware that he is a problematic fave and is a racist, sexist, homophobic piece of shit. That's not why I like him. Racism, sexism, and homophobia in real life are bad. I would never like a person in real life who was like Micah. But I am fully aware that Red Dead Redemption 2 is a fictional world and Micah Bell III is a fictional character, and I am not going to now idolize racist, sexist, homophobic assholes because I saw it in a video game. That's like saying that playing video games makes you violent in real life, which is an issue that a lot of boomers had when video games became popular, saying it was going to make kids violent.

The reason I like Micah is because the game is about redemption, and I like to explore how Micah could possibly be redeemed. Honestly, he reminds me of a kid fresh out of high school who's still saying the same stuff his parents taught him, and who hasn't yet been to University to see that the world is not black and white and that people of color actually exist and are people, instead of racist caricatures explained by his parents because he grew up in a town without any diversity.

I wonder what could have happened if Micah had grown up in the Van Der Linde gang (he's only 3 years older than Arthur. Hosea and Dutch could have adopted him). Or if the gang didn't fall apart and they actually got to start a new life somewhere with the Blackwater money.

I think it's okay to explore that. What if he realized his racism and sexism and homophobia were bad? What if he wasn't so socially awkward and abrasive and actually got to know and like people? What if he took steps to try and make amends for his past behavior and became a better person? In a game about redemption, I don't think it's so far-fetched to want to imagine that.

In conclusion, block the things you don't want to see, and as long as you're able to separate fiction from reality, like whichever characters tickle your fancy.

About that why did you get billy hate poll... Personally i dont post about billy or harringrove so i never had any hate targeted at me, and i cant vote in zhe poll because of it. BUT i had to block so many accounts and tags because i couldnt go into the billy hargrove tag without encountering these mile long posts about how awful we all are. I know you know these posts too well, so i wont detail how according to the antis we are all racist assholes. The worst part is that when i first joined the fandom i saw so many of these that i almost believed them. You know, when a bunch of people are all saying the same bs but you start to doubt yourself, it really sucked. It effected me enough thst i had a hard time "confessing" to my real-life (aka not online) friends who are casual fans of the show that he was my favourite character. And the funny part is most of them couldnt even care less, cause being such a passionate anti for a fictional character and writing 10k essays on how awful that FICTIONAL CHARATER is and therefore his fans and the actor too IS NOT NORMAL BEHAVIOUR! It is as chronicly online as it gets. There was only one friend of mine who was suprised and since she is a very opinionated person started to explain to me how SHE COULD NEVER LOVE HIM and she is suprised that i care about him. I tried to explain to her that i know that he behaves like an asshole but its due to his background and i believe would he have gotten the same treatment as steve he could have been redeemed, i was hit with the classic tonedeath answer:

At that point i just gave up in arguing honestly and then i felt like an idiot for not putting up more of a fight, cause this made it feel like her argument i agreed with. God.

i confess that when i first watched stranger things, i didn't like billy that much. and i handled that by not engaging with media about him, you know, like a normal person. this was just after s2 came out so i wasn't active on tumblr, i wasn't writing fanfiction, i wasn't in the fandom (and I'm glad let me tell you). but i was also thirteen and related to max more than billy, but the older i got, the more mature and aware i became of just the world in general.

in my humble opinion, the vocal billy antis are ignorant. they don't want to a conversation, they don't want to discuss nuance or entertain the idea of people unlearning things.

we've reached a place in this world where racism and homophobia and ableism are so prevalent that people forget that these things are taught and can therefore be unleant. because a lot of the real life people don't want to unlearn, or can't.

and that idea as spread into fandom spaces. I've said it before and I'll say it again, but the fact that people's response to children/teenagers saying racist/homophobic things is to immediately call for their death is a bad thing actually. and yes, it's spread to characters as well.

it's all performative. i made that poll just to see how performative antis are and, yeah, the results aren't great.

another thing i've noticed about people in general is that they tend to hate characters that exhibit their *embarassing* flaws. media that has racist/homophobic characters in the bad positions aren't really loved by people who hold those views.

^^^^ i think this summarises what i'm trying to say. no one wants to be the bad guy, so when they see something that forces them to confront that part of them, they push it away, deny it.

billy/harringrove stans have been harrassed, told to kill ourselves, called slurs and yet the people who say those things think they're right because they can't fathom being wrong.

It's been there all along, and obviously so. It's really not that hard, and I think you're underestimating a) the Duffers' storytelling abilities, and b) the GA's ability to understand what they're being presented with (especially in a season where the Vecna plot is the only plot).

Why do there have to be examples of other people doing the work we're doing? Why does someone else have to have done it first? Not to sound too much like Wei Wuxian, but...why can't we be the precedent? Not only that, but plenty of people do deep dives on shows likes this. Not to send you into another Izzy rage (unless you want one) but I saw another hideously bad take about Izzy objectifying Ed during the ep10 argument scene? Sigh. Really goes to show the lack of ability to attribute normal human emotions to Izzy. He can't be angrily yelling at Ed because he's angry his friend has had a massive behavior change and is nothing like the man he thought he knew. Izzy must have intentionally hit a vulnerable spot so he would get a sexual thrill from Ed being a sexy dom who chokes men. He didn't gently reach out to touch the face of a man who was finally behaving like his old self out love for his old friend, only creepy lust. And Izzy is such a creepy objectifier! Look how Ed looks uncomfortable and knocks him away. Never mind that Ed choked him against the wall, that's not objectifying so it's okay. Oh, and by the way, tell me if you got my Ask about the first Daddy Dom on the good ship, uh, Big Daddy. I promise I'm not ignoring them and you're not annoying me or anything like that, I enjoy your daddy dom and related asks very much (even though I might not always have a long/deep reply for them, I'm not amazing at replies to more general things than meta) it's just that yesterday was a high stress day for me. I spent the whole day knowing I had to make a phone call at the end of my day (I'm nocturnal, so 9am when places open is the end of my day) and not just any phone call, but I had to call a vet about my duck. Then there was also the incident with the AO3 comment, and I spent most of the day compiling my metas and word counting them (40k) so I could add them to my general word count for the year. With all that, I didn't have a lot of time to reply to more than a few messages! But I'm going to get to your messages today!

And, I don't know if you noticed, but I gave you your own tag on my blog! So I can keep you and your collection of daddies sub-categorized!

Right, moving on to the rest:

I can see what's happening re: Izzy. First, they decided he's homophobic because of the daddy scene and the 'namby pamby' comment (I've also seen people double down on that, despite Izzy being in love with Ed and thusly queer himself. And I do know that queer people can be homophobic and queerphobic, but it does deeply change the angle from which that homophobia or queerphobia is coming, and also I stand by my reasoning that if Izzy was homophobic, Ed would have punted him by now, because he would have shown it around Jack; his issues aren't homophobia, they're "you're not being a proper pirate" or "you're not doing your job", and possibly a perpetuation of a cycle of abuse he received, that he isn't looking at critically enough to realize he's acting like a homophobe at Lucius).

So, the "he's homophobic!" didn't work at shaming fans into hating him, so they levelled it up: he's a racist fetishizer. Another read that, although I can understand people having that read or being uncomfortable with how he acts, it's been pointed out by a black fan, in fact (among others as well), that considering the effort OFMD puts into actively telling racists to go fuck themselves, it would be poor writing on OFMD's part to let Izzy slide the way the show does. It's also worth noting that being rude or abrasive to a person of color does not an instant racist make, it can just be a person-on-person issue. That is actually a thing. Furthermore, which is another thing said in that piece and what I am referencing, the idea that Izzy wants Edward to be violent because he's a man of color, not because he's a pirate is not only laughable but a downright daft read, because everyone on that ship is a pirate and violent. If Ed was the only person of color it might be problematic, but they're all so diverse and such a wonderfully mixed bag it means that Ed being a person of color is not why Izzy wants him to be violent.

And we've discussed at length here why Izzy likely wants Ed to be violent (pirate! safety! protection! vulnerability!) so I won't dig back in here.

When "racist!" and "homophobic!" didn't work, they started saying he was abusive, to which most of us said, "He was a meanie pants and then Edward cut off his toe and fed it to him? That is not Izzy being abusive. If you want to pick someone in that sequence who is abusive, it is most certainly Ed, did we watch the same show? Ed cutting off his toe can't even be labelled as reactive abuse (eg. the victim of abuse gets abused to such an extent they start to strike back, somewhat mimicking their abuser's actions) because it's such a massive escalation from nasty words to outright permanent physical violence."

So now those three things don't work because the arguments either don't hold weight (abusive), would make the show infinitely less good and well put together than it is right now and undermine a lot of the messages (racist), or is undermined itself by Izzy being in love with another man (homophobic), they've moved on to saying he's a fetishizer, because that makes sense, right? Telling us who love him that we're fetishizers didn't work, so they'll tell us that he's the fetishizer.

Lots of people have explained better than I ever could that the word 'fetishize' is being misused at length, but the tl;dr is that fetishizing is very different to 'finding someone attractive' or 'enjoying when they act a certain way'. A fetish is something that is attractive to a person that isn't naturally supposed to be. Finding someone's lips or tits hot isn't a fetish, finding someone's feet hot is, because it's not really meant as a sexual thing. It also doesn't mean it's a bad thing, it's just a term. Fetishizing and sexualizing are both ridiculous terms, especially when they're being applied to one grown adult finding another grown adult attractive or sexy in some way.

It's also weird to read Izzy cupping Ed's cheek with tears in his eyes as sexual rather than romantic or just affectionate. Ed has been a mess for days, and considering Ed was actively discussing suicide in 1x04 when they first boarded the Revenge (something Izzy looks devastated about, by the way, and then tries very hard to put aside as, "Well that makes no fucking sense!" and ignore because how, how, how do you handle something like that? How do you instantly swallow down that the person you love most on this godforsaken Earth is considering dying as a good idea because of the mental instability you've been spending most of your energy trying to stabilize for what seems like it might be years?) and has spent 3 days crying in a blanket fort and seeming completely not himself (and I've seen people say what he's doing is a healthy mechanism for getting over and through a breakup, and I don't disagree, but I do think he's also trying to become Stede and I'm not really sure that's as healthy as the crying and songwriting and letting out his feelings) on top of being apathetic and lethargic and disinterested in everything before they boarded the Revenge, and finally there's a spark, a hint of who he used to be, and Izzy is clutching desperately to it because he wants his person back!!!

Sure, maybe the chokeslam turned him on, but as we've discussed here before: physical reactions are not something we control. You can be turned on by something you are actively disgusted by and do not want in the slightest. Bodies are betrayers when it comes to things like this. Izzy potentially being turned on by being chokeslammed by the person he's most attracted to and in love with isn't shocking and doesn't mean he was, in that moment, lusting after Ed and hoping that being mean to him would lead to them boning against the wall, it just doesn't.

So now we've done racist, homophobic, abusive and fetishizing, I assume the next steps over the next couple of weeks will be firstly that Izzy and Edward have clearly been a twosome for many years, and thusly it's incestuous because they're brother-coded (rather than canonically framed as being married couple coded), and then either because Izzy is historically 16 (much like Stede is historically 29) or because he's short (and frankly I do not know which one is worse), the argument will be we're all horrible people for shipping them, not because Izzy could get hurt but because we're turning Ed into a sex offender.

Can't wait to see that unravel between now and s2!!!

RIGHT HERE, banging my head against the glass and gnawing at the drywall. Tumblr has hidden my posts and reblogs (specifically those that are tagged for Brokeback, I think) and locked my out of my messages, maybe even blocked my asks. Homophobic tbh. If you've messaged me or sent an ask, know that the reason I'm not answering is not because I don't want to, but because I don't see it...

- What did you do to deserve this?

I'm not sure, but I have a theory. A swarm of spam bots followed be. I blocked almost all of them, except for those who looked like they could be real people on Tumblr for the first time. So I sent them messages asking for any kind of reply... Multiple identical ones. Whoopsie. I didn't except this hellsite to have a system that recognizes spam in DM's, but then again, this is speculation based on limited data.

- Well, why haven't you gotten yourself un-blocked?

Support is not answering my emails. I've tried selecting different categories, used two different emails, begged, asked nicely - silence. If any of you have an idea as to what might've gone wrong, let me know and I'll try to fix it (no, it's not in the spam folder).

UPDATE: IT WAS JUST A GLITCH. It apparently had nothing to do with my messages. I think blocking all those bots and messaging them overloaded the system somehow?.. I'm not a expert.

Sashannarcy Week 2022 Day 7: Pride

Whelp, here we are at the final entry for this year. I may do this again next year idk.

This entry ended up way shorter than i would have liked, but considering my real life isn’t doing too hot and i usually write to let off stress i’m proud to have gotten this done at least. Anyway, as someone who lives in a rural state and has never seen how the big cities do there Pride parades, and has only heard about it from internet friends, i decided to keep this entry to what i do know:

Gathering together before a pride event and hanging out and catching up before moving on to the main event.

In this story... It’s pride. Anne, Sasha, and Marcy get ready for pride. That’s it. We’ve got Trans Anne, Bi Sasha, Lesbian Marcy, She/They Lesbian Terri and their wife Jan. Bi Jess and Pan Ally. Supportive parents Oum and Bee. And they meet up before a pride parade.

That’s really it.

Thank you all for keeping up with my entries for this, Even if Tumblr wiped Day 4 and Day 5 off of tags but you can find those elsewhere. Although if they wipe this then Staff is homophobic.

“Cmon Anne, just hold still a little longer.”

It was almost midday at the Boonchuy-Waybright-Wu household and things were currently in a rush of activity. Marcy had rushed into their bedroom to gather various things she thought she would need to bring for the parade, meanwhile Anne and Sasha finished touching up.

They would need to be ready for the Pride Parade.

They’d gone to many others before, of course they had! Ever since they were ten they'd go together to Pride and they hadn’t stopped since. It’d been touch and go every now and again: Keeping Marcy’s parents from finding out, Marcy moving away, getting lost in Amphibia, high school. But they still went no matter what.

They’d gone when they were friends, they’d gone when they were girlfriends.

And now would be the first time they would go when they were married.

Sasha currently sat on the floor, a paintbrush in her hands as she carefully dragged it across Anne’s cheeks. Blue, pink, and white decorated her cheeks in little flags and Sasha had to finish it up before Anne put the glitter on it. A massive, hand-stitched trans flag was wrapped around her shoulders and she would be forever proud of Marcy for making it for her.

Sasha had forgone decorating her cheeks but had learned enough about stitching and leather work to stitch a giant Bisexual flag to the back of her leather jacket. The front of her jacket was absolutely covered in pins and buttons. Usually the pins would be of bands, anime, and various puns but now her jacket was covered with nothing but Pronoun pins. Other than the jacket she had dressed like she usually did in a long skirt and simple blouse.

“Sash, come on!” Anne whined, her hands tapping rhythmically on the floor. She loved her wives dearly, but she also liked going to Pride and also telling the world at large that she had married these two wonderful women. She was very impatiently waiting for the chance to do both.

“Just a sec… and done!” Sasha said happily as she leaned back and looked at her wife carefully, at first looking to see if she’d screwed up the paint but then just… looking at her.

Frog, she loved Anne so much.

“How do I look? Come on, tell me!” Anne said eagerly.

“Beautiful as always.” Sasha said with a smirk. She laughed as Anne blushed, she loved doing that.

“Don’t start flirting without me!” Marcy said as she charged down the stairs two at a time, tripping and almost falling had Anne not gotten up to catch her in her arms. Marcy blushed and laughed from Anne’s arms.

“You look gorgeous as always Anne!” She said happily as she got to her feet. A massive flag rested on her shoulders, the familiar oranges and deep pinks happily woven on the homemade flag.

“Still impressed by your stuff Mar-mar.” Anne said with a whistle as she saw the careful stitching on the flag. It was very well made. Years of making her own fan merchandise, and then merchandise of her own stuff, made her amazing at making pride stuff to hand out during the parades.

Usually she would also make her own pronoun pins to give out but this year Sasha had taken over that department, wanting to help Marcy in this regard.

“Thanks Sashy, always great to hear.” Marcy answered distractedly as she looked over her phone, hyer brow furrowed in concentration as she wondered how long it would take to get to the meeting place and whether it would be more time efficient to go down a different route than usual.

A beautifully manicured hand took hold of the phone and lowered it, and Marcy looked up into Sasha’s comforting eyes. “Marbles, don’t sweat the details. Everything will be okay.”

Marcy yelped as Anne grabbed her from behind in a hug. The Thai woman held her tight as she rested her head on Marcy’s shoulder with a smile. “Yeah Mar-mar, it’ll be fine.”

Marcy sighed and pocketed her phone. She then grabbed Sasha and pulled her into a hug, the three wives now hugging one another. They stood there for a moment, just enjoying holding each other before the clock on the wall began to chime and they realized they sort of needed to go now.

The red convertible flew down the streets of LA.

Marcy was holding her lesbian flag between her legs so it flew proudly in the air while they drove and used her free hand, the one that wasn’t currently holding Anne’s, was off the side of said car and was just waving in the air like a sail. Her head lay on the back of the seat as she rested, waiting for them to arrive.

Anne meanwhile was vibrating with excitement. Even after all these years she couldn’t stop being excited for pride like a kid on Christmas. Ever since she came out to her parents as a girl she’d always been giddy about June.

“C’mon Sash, hurry hurry hurry!” She cheered as Sasha drove them towards where they were meeting with the others.

“Hold your horses Anne, we’ll be there in a second.” Sasha said as she kept driving.

The streets changed slowly to Anne as it felt like they were moving at a snail’s pace until finally, finally, they arrived at the meeting place. Currently only four people were standing around talking so two more would arrive before they were ready to go.

But right now two of those people were just who Anne wanted to see.

Anne leapt out of the car and rushed over to the elderly Thai couple who turned to her with happy smiles and open arms.

“Mom! Dad! You came!” She cheered as she caught them up in a giant hug.

“Of course we did, we’ll never pass up an opportunity to spend time with our daughter.” Oum Boonchuy said to her daughter. The Thai woman had aged gracefully, her hair dyed brown to stay the same color as her daughters. The only signs she had aged at all were the gray roots that were showing and the deeper lines on her face. She was wearing a shirt decorated in the Trans flag with the words ‘Trans Women Are Women’ written in cursive along the white middle.

Bee had streaks of silver through his hair, with more lines on his face than his wife. He was wearing a tie-dyed rainbow shirt with the same ‘Trans Women Are Women’ written on it as his wife. He grabbed his daughter in a giant hug and tried to lift her, quickly giving up with a groan as Anne giggled happily. “You’re old man is happy to see you Anne. Always happy to go to these with you. Does Marcy have any of those pins?”

“No, but Sasha does.” She said as she pointed to Sasha, who was currently bringing out a bag filled with pins. Currently the others were surrounding her and grabbing the appropriate pins.

“These are Great Sasha! You made these?” A blue haired woman said as they pinned a ‘She/They’ pin on their shirt. She was taller than last time Sasha had seen them, their hair had grown past their back and she had ditched the lab coat and uniform for a pair of comfortable jeans and a ‘Down With Cis’ shirt underneath a Trans-flag hoodie jacket. Marcy was still laughing herself silly about the shirt.

“Yep. Pretty proud of it actually.” Sasha said as she noticed the golden band with a sparkling gem on Terri’s hand. “So you and Jan…?”

“Getting married in November, yeah!” Dr. Jan said as she kissed Terri on their cheek and picked up a ‘She/her’ pin. Her wife blushed and gave them a shove, laughing. Jan was wearing her work uniform because even the government wouldn’t be able to take her comfortable khakis from her. Though she had exchanged her UFO earrings for a lesbian flag earring in her left ear and a general pride flag in the other. Despite this, both earrings were still shaped like UFO’s.

Sasha was only slightly jealous. Really, she wasn’t kicking herself for not thinking of something like that to wear.

“Here are the invites, by the way.” Terri said as they handed out the fancy looking invites to Sasha and Marcy. “Make sure to give one to Anne for me since she’ll probably be talking to her parents for awhile.”

“Probably not, they’ll be bringing up grandchildren soon and I guarantee you she’ll come running over here in embarrassment.” Jan said happily as Marcy and Sasha started blushing up storms. Grandchildren!?

“She talked with us about it on the way over.” Terri said as way of explanation to the two blushing girls. 

“I mean, we might have talked about adopting once or twice. But not for awhile!” Marcy said panicked as her mind ran a mile a minute. Her face was burning bright red and Sasha wasn’t much better.

“Oh, so you have been talking about it?” Terri teased the two.

Before any of them could respond, an older van pulled up and two women hopped out and rushed over.

“Oh good, we didn’t miss the meet up.” Ally said happily as she rushed to grab a pin for her and her wife. Her hair was cut into an undercut with hot pink tips all around it and little pansexual flags were painted on her cheeks similar to Anne and her trans ones. She had exchanged her dark blue jumpsuit for a light blue one that was open at the front to reveal it was worn over a bright yellow shirt and bright pink arm sleeves.

Jess happily pinned her ‘She/Her’ pin to her Bisexual flag shirt. Her hair, now longer than last time Sasha and Marcy had seen her, was braided into a single bun atop her head. Her Bisexual Flag shirt was the same as always, with simple jeans. She’d gotten rid of her sweatshirt and exchanged it for a pride flag worn around her shoulders much like how Anne was wearing hers.

Speaking of Anne, she was now rushing over to the group with a madly blushing face while her parents chuckled behind her and walked over at a slower pace. Anne looked at the others, from Jan and Terri’s smirks to Sasha and Marcy’s blushes, and covered her face with her hands.

Once they were caught up with what was going on, Ally and Jess joined in on teasing the two girls only for the tables to be turned when Marcy, blushing madly, loudly asked them when they would be getting a kid.

Ally and Jess, blushing as madly as the three girls, tried to change the subject.

“Oh, the parade should be starting soon! We should get going.” Jess said loudly as everyone nodded and smiled, agreeing to drop it for now. They gathered together to get ready to move. Today was going to be fun.

As they walked together to meet up with the majority of the parade, Anne, Sasha, and Marcy all smiled at one another as they held hands and walked together.

They didn’t know what tomorrow would bring, if it would be a better day or a worse one. They didn’t know anything but that they loved one another more than anything else.

They were, by universal prophecy, literal soulmates.

They had faced down tyrants, herons, monsters, robots, and The Core. And they’d come out of it stronger, and more in love than ever.

They had chosen each other. And they would always choose each other.

The three soulmates walked on, surrounded by friends and family and were certain that no matter what happened tomorrow, today would be wonderful.

No. I did however get some hateful comments from some asshole in 2016 who was going around making these homophobic comments for fics in the ship tag, including to some very new writers who were publishing their first fics, and I ended up making a PSA post about it when it happened. The asshole went to literally 15-20 fics with similar types of comments and sometimes engaged back in a comment thread, it was a fucking mess lol 11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of, however I've had gifs and fanart/edits stolen from me, more than once. Not fun. 12. Have you ever had a fic translated? No, I probably would cry if someone wanted to though. 13. I think though, if the point is for the character to not understand something, but to have readers who do understand a glimpse of a character or plot or etc, writers should try to put some kind of translation in the story whether it's in the author's notes or somehow in the text. Same thing for dialogue. If they don't want to translate in text OR in the author's notes, the meaning should be subtextually clear though, otherwise, just write something like "said in [x language]". 19. What was the first fandom you wrote for? ...that was so long ago I can't remember, it was back in elementary school. 20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written? My ABSOLUTE favorite??? This is like picking a favorite color or something.

so i love my friends right like theyre great people however there are some things that they do that kind of make me dislike them and i feel so bad abt it cos i love them but some of the shit they do makes me so uncomfy and i dont want to say anything cos what if they hate me for it and want to stop being friends with me and even though i know that they wont it still scares me lol but some of the shit they do makes me so uncomfy like some of them are hella transphobic and dont even realise it hell some of them say homophobic shit like in a joking way but it still kinda scares me also one of them uses autistic as an insult and that absolutely does not sit right with me and like this one isnt even that bad but they constantly refer to me as the gay one and they dont even seem to think of me as more than that sometimes also i have asked them a hundred times to call me lesbian instead of gay but nope im the gay one in the friend group and nothing will change that and that kind of doesnt vibe with me too good also theres this person who they keep referring to as my girlfriend or my wife and that absolutely is not okay with me and if asked them to stop so many times but they either cant or wont cos they keep calling her that and the thing is that the person they keep calling my wife is a really good friend of mine and we also have a lot of friends in common and i hang out w her and her friends a lot and whenever my friends see me with her they always take photos and shit which makes me so uncomfy i hate having photos taken of me and theyre also really unsubtle about calling her my girlfriend and shit when shes around and when her friends around and im so scared that either her or one of her friends will figure out that i like her and she'll be like ew thats mank and ill lose yet another friend and even tho i know thats so so unlikely cos shes a great person but it would at the very least make things awkward between us and i dont want that cos shes a good friend (better than my fg) so if my friends mess up that friendship i swear im gonna have no friends at all cos ill likely get pissed as fuck at them and my other friends will think im mentally fucked up and then i may as well just leave the entire fucking school and go to my local one and even though i know im catastrophising to the end of the earth and back it still doesnt take away from the fact that some of my friends are making me feel so uncomfy that i dont want to hang out w them even tho i love them also theres these two really toxic people in my grade who sometimes hang out with us (one more than the other) and theyve told the one whos not nice per se but less bad than the other one and hangs out with us less to fuck off and the homophobic transphobic bitch who uses so many slurs its not ok at all they seem to have no problem with oh and theres this kid in the year below us who always dabs up the rest of my fg but whenever he sees me he just says ew no ur a lesbian and one time he said that i prolly jerk off to furry porn and first of all what the actual fuck second of all that made me feel so uncomfy and third of all my fg just laughed and they still bring it up so often and they surely can tell it makes me feel so so fucking scared and i dont even fucking know why oh and one of my closest friends has the most terrible taste in guys like i swear she lies the most toxic people and im the only one who can actually see that cos all the others think theyre hot and they dont realise just how bad its gonna end every time theres literally only 2 people in that group who actually dont ever make me feel like my skeleton js gonna fucking scuttle out of my skin and crab walk to the nearest trash can and jump in so tysm to sarah (i aint gonna tag u cos i dont want u to see this post lmao im still gonna post it tho) and arkie (she doesnt even have tumblr and will never see this post but i still want to put it in writing) anyways yuh thats my lil vent

mid 20s young man with no discernible skills other than talking good who can barely drive joins with a prodigy psychic and through fun wacky events solves crimes and changes various villainlike people to be good. gets canceled for a bit but ends up fine in the end. is supposed to take care of the psychic to an extent but they end up saving his ass at least once. he's gay with one of the redeemed bad guys who joins him as a colleague after his redemption. said former bad guy is Way more qualified for the job than he is.

INTRO TO ARTHURIANA MASTERPOST

HOW TO GET STARTED WITH ARTHURIANA

The Arthuriana fandom is very broad and there's no one piece of media, which can be confusing for people just getting into it! There’s no right way to engage with arthuriana, and no minimum level of knowledge or reading you need to attain to qualify. 

The basis of the Arthurian Legend is a body of hundreds of texts written across the medieval and early Renaissance period in dozens of languages and cultural traditions. Which can seem pretty overwhelming, but there are a lot of modern vernacular translations-- you absolutely don’t have to learn old French or anything. I’ll go more in depth on where to get started with texts further down.

You also don’t have to read texts at all. As I said, there is no minimum basis-- if you prefer to engage with modern adaptations, or want to engage with medieval arthuriana outside of reading texts, that's also cool! 

In terms of modern adaptations there is a wealth of choices, which I am very much not an expert in lol, so I’m afraid I can’t give much in the way of reccs. Books I have heard good things about are, Exiled from Camelot, Idylls of the Queen, The Buried Giant, the Squire's Tale series, and Gawain by Gwen Rowley (warning that this one is apparently erotica? Good for him). I trust @princesslibs  for modern book reccomendations. and if you speak French Kaamelott is purportedly a very good tv show. Frankly no modern adaptation will ever be better than Spamalot to me, but that's just my personal take. 

If you are curious about engaging with texts but (understandably) don’t want to read a ton of dense medieval literature, one really cool resource is Norris J Lacy's New Arthurian Encyclopedia, which you can pick up at most used bookstores for under ten bucks. It’s a very thorough easy to look through reference of characters stories and texts. I know a lot of people like the Nightbringer wiki, though I personally am wary of it because it basically never cites sources. It’s a good quick reference though and a lot of people like it, I’d just take it with a grain of salt. Sparknotes also has a lot of summaries of the major texts like Le Morte D’Arthur and the romances of Chrétien De Troyes. You are not a fake fan for doing this I promise. And of course you’re always welcome to send me an ask <3 

Finally, getting started with texts. Quick glossary of terms:

--Verse Romance

    A verse (poem) story which can vary a great deal in length. These deal with the adventures of individual knights, usually Gawain, and tend to have a great deal of magical elements and the stereotypical monster slaying, questing, damosel rescuing knight adventures.

--Prose Novel or Romance

    A non poetic narrative, more like a modern novel, more likely to deal with the fall of Arthur, sword in the stone, Mordred, fall of Camelot sort of affair. They are usually quite long. Most famous of these are Le Morte D’Arthur and the French Vulgate, but there are a slew of late medieval Prose novels floating around. Eluding Rey.

--Pseudohistory

    I’m gonna b real these are boring I think. These are, as the name suggests, written as accurate depictions of history.  They very much are not, but they claim to be. Most famous of these is Jeffrey of Monmouth, Mr Jeff Mouth himself, and his History of the Kings of Britain, which I haven’t read because it bores me. You can if you want. It’s in Latin. Whatever. These tend to be some of the earliest texts, and include the “lives of saints” stories. Life of Gildas is the only funny one.

--Ballads

    These are only arguably texts, as most of them were written after the time of the “canon” being composed. But I like them. These are songs telling stories, recorded by people like Francis Child and Thomas Percy. They are very short and fun and include stories like The Boy and the Mantle, Kempion, and King Arthur and the King of Cornwall.

--Lai

    A specific type of French verse poem, usually quite short. The most famous collection of lais are those of Marie le France, including things like Bisclavret and Lanval. 

--Traditions

    Since Arthuriana was written all over, there are different literary traditions across time and space. The French tradition is one of the most famous, including works like the vulgate, Chretien and a lot of verse romances. The English tradition is one of the most influential on modern adaptations, including the Morte D’Arthur and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. There are also Welsh, German, Dutch, Hebrew, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Tagalog, Greek, Belarussian, Scottish, Irish, Breton, and probably even more. There’s a lot. It’s very cool and sexy.

A note that there is also a big tradition of Victorian revival Arthuriana. I wrote a starter guide to that here, it’s all very fun and like, aesthetic. 

Alright, now, which texts do you start with?

If you’re a little intimidated by long texts or medieval lit, starting with short verse romances in modern translation is a great place to start. These include Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, which is very good and gay and well known, Lancelot and the Hart With The White Foot, which is very good and gay and underappreciated, or Lanval, which is homophobic but funny. 

If you want to start with what is considered the oldest King Arthur Story, Culwch and Olwen is short and fun!

If you want to read about the grail quest, you can start where it started with Story of the Grail or Percival, then the four continuations, Essenbachs Parzival, the vulgate version of the Grail quest which you can buy paperback for like 5 bucks (I can also scan my copy for you just shoot me an ask <3)

If you want to read about the fall of camelot, I have the Vulgate death of Arthur section scanned here. There’s also the Alliterative and Stanzaic mortes, which are in middle English. I have scanned Simon Armitage's Alliterative Morte translation here. I’m working on my own translation of the Stanzaic but it’s not done lol. If you want the first third or so DM me lol. King Artus is very short and readable and it’s a Jewish text which is really cool.

If you want to read about Lancelot, Chrétien de Troyes Lancelot is his first text. He also has a whole long vulgate section, the first part is scanned here by val <3, and there's Lanzelet,  Sebile is in it so it’s probably very good. He’s also basically the main character of Le Morte D’Arthur which I might as well talk about here uhm. It’s long and fun in places and boring in others but it does have like the version most modern adaptations take from and tells the whole story of Arthur and Camelot from beginning to end. The Keith Baines version scanned by val is the most readable but it is an abridgement I believe. people who like le morte usually read this version so its probably the best choice lol

If you want to read about Gawain, good news! He’s in basically everything. Even texts that aren’t supposed to be about Gawain are doomed to become The Gawain Show Featuring The Protagonist Of This Text As A Sidekick. Which is so funny of him. The Roman Van Walewein is very funny and long and Gawain™. I also recommend, L’atre Perilous, Diu Krone, Sir Gawain and the Turk, and I could go on but for brevity's sake let's start there.

On Ao3, we’re trying to get our own Arthurian Literature tag but <3 its a whole thing. Anyway the tag is Arthurian Mythology, but I’ll b real, it’s kind of flooded with stuff that doesn’t really belong there, because even though it’s a fandom tag other people unknowingly tag stuff as Arthurian Mythology when it’s like, a knight au.
