★ ៸៸៸ FRIENDSHIP 1 ╱ post ❜ ✸ ៸ !?!

Good friendships can turn a decent story into a memorable one as, it not only does it make the reader care more about the story, it adds emotional weight to the story.

But there's one problem. Good relationships are difficult to write. You thought writing romance was difficult? Well, writing friendships is a whole new level of difficulty.

Romances normally rely on professions of love and staring into one's eyes for lengthy periods of time. But, how do you develop friendships?

# ៸ make each character their own person.

If a character's only purpose in the story is to act as "the friend", then it's guaranteed that they will be a flat and uninteresting character. This will lead to a friendship that no reader will be invested in.

Unfortunately, a lot of stories are like this ― you have your main character, and then their 1-dimensional friend who might crack a joke every once in a while. 

We have some good examples from movies like Samwise Gamgee from The Lord of the Rings. He isn't just "Frodo's friend" who tags along. He's a gardener and a cook. He has a fascination with elves, a crush on Rosie, and a bad habit of eavesdropping. He is loyal, brave, and can persevere even when there is seemingly no hope.

You see this is in Toy Story as well. Even though Woody and Buzz both have the same goal ― to escape Sid's house ― they both have different journeys. The story means different things to each of them. Woody learns to not be as selfish and Buzz struggles with accepting that he is just a toy.

# ៸ give them something in common.

Once you have fleshed out your characters, you need a reason for them to be friends. What brought them together? What gives them the reason to hang out? You need to give them similarities.

This can be a number of different things, like:

★ Status

★ Hobbies

★ Struggles

★ History

★ Background

★ Interests

★ Enemy

★ Goals

★ Dreams

# ៸ give them meaningful differences.

Once you've established their similarities, it's time to dig deeper and create their meaningful differences. Don't just make your characters different. Give them meaningful differences that can build off of each other.

With those differences, your characters can help support their strengths and build them up during their times of weakness. This can lead to a strong friendship.

Here are some great ways to give them differences:

# ៸ skills.

★ One of the friend can be smart in terms of intelligence while the other is good at using her hands and inventing stuff.

★ One might be good at coming up with plans, while the other might be good at improvising when the plan goes awry.

# ៸ conflict resolution.

★ If there is a bully bothering them, one might want to go and blow up at the bully, while the other chooses to ignore it.

★ If they are having an argument, one friend would want to talk it out maturely, while the other just likes to play devil's advocate and throw more heat into the argument.

# ៸ personality.

★ One is confident and sly while the other is shy and awkward.

★ A is cold and determined while B is relaxed and compassionate.

★ B is an easy-going pleasure seeker, and B is a serious planner.

# ៸ method of action.

★ Both friends are trying to break into a house. One will look up videos on YouTube about how to pick a lock. The other friend will just break the window with a rock.

★ The two friends are trying to persuade someone to do something. One friend uses bribing techniques, and the other friend uses a more passive-aggressive approach.

# ៸ reaction.

★ One friend with freak out and the other friend will stay calm.

★ A will get discouraged and want to give up, and B will encourage them to keep going.

★ One person is terrified out of their mind, while the other tries to stay positive.

Is it over?" The hero's voice sounded wet.

There was no color in their face now, none except the purple colored bruises under their eyes and the red along their mouth

The villain watched the hero collapse to their knees--spent and shaking-making not a sound. An impaled blade glinted red in the fiery sunlight where it exited the hero's back. A final salute to the battle's gory, glory end.

The villain made their way towards the hero until they loomed above the bent form.

"It's over." the villain said. "Yes."

"And did--did I-" the hero gurgled through blood soaked breaths, "hurt-you?"

Their breaths sounded strained: more shallow.

Kneeling, the villain focused on the hero's hands, unwrapping the hero's clenched grip with deft, firm fingers. With one swift jerk, the blade slid free.

There was a river of blood followed by a painful gasp--the only sound made as the hero slumped forward. The villain reached out and caught the hero holding them close as tears streamed down the hero’s face.

The light in the hero's eyes flickered and dimmed. For a fraction of a second, the two stared at each other--hero and villain, arch enemies, opposites, rivals since birth-saying with their eyes what they never could with their lips. The last moment they would ever have with each other. The moment they wished they had long ago.

The hero hiccuped once, twice. The villain didn't move, not even as their kneecaps grew damp with the blood pooling below them. They held them close, not letting go. They wouldn’t let go this time. And then there was no light reflected in the hero's eyes. No life.

"Yes," the villain said after a while. The tears just now starting to escape their dull eyes. "You hurt me." They closed the hero's eyes and glanced at the sun rising higher in the horizon, ending the lifelong fight. They stood for a second, staring at the corpse before them. "More than you'll ever know, darling..."

Writing Prompt

The person with the superpower to never be remembered.

Is it really a superpower? They've tried everything, from being loud to obnoxious to downright violent, yet nothing works. Not even their parents remember they exist most of the time. At least as a superhero they get paid to count on being forgotten, to sneak up on attackers and no one ever remembers their weakness or soft spots.

Then they meet someone whose power is to never forget.

so i wrote a wonderful reply to this and lost it all bc tumblr crashed. yay. I'm slightly less angry now so here we go again. i split the answer in two bc each prompt got too long :)) i'l tag you in the brocedes. this one is sebchal. love you <3

Who's more likely to convince the other to stay in bed come morning?

Of course, it's Charles, even though he's not the one who retired. It's Sebastian who gets up at ass-crack at dawn to feed the chickens if they are in Switzerland or to feed and walk Bruno if they are in Monaco. He never leaves Bruno behind, not when he gets to see Charles playing with him. Sebastian doesn't use an alarm clock, too used to the routine by now. Charles can't get up without one, and yet, whenever Seb stirs, Charles clings to him like an overgrown plush octopus, muttering "five more minutes, Seb, please". He buries his nose in Seb's collarbones, legs tangled together, so Seb decides that being five minutes late to start his day can't hurt. He pets Charles' hair and kisses his forehead and draws circles on his naked back until Charles' breath evens out and Seb can get out of bed. No one wants Bruno to pee on their hardwood floors.

Other times, Charles is sleepy and soft and flushed. He doesn't cling to Sebastian, he simply turns toward Seb in bed, blinks unfocused eyes at him as Seb drinks his glass of water. Seb takes one look at him and decides his morning routine can wait. He returns to bed and he presses Charles into the mattress until Charles gasps softly against his lips, flushed and oh, so lovely.

28. What are their thoughts on pet names? Do they have any?

They like them, but they don't overuse them. Charles used to blush at first, even when he couldn't grasp their meaning. Sebastian would say "Can you pass me the salt, liebling?" or "Don't forget to take the trash out, schatz", and Charles' body flushed all over, blinking owlishly at him. Even now, years after Charles learned to speak German, he still gets warm all over when Sebastian calls him anything but his name.

Charles being Charles which means being Monegasque, he called Sebastian mon chéri and mon chou after their first dates. He can't help himself. Affection is built into the language he is speaking. It sent Sebastian into a laughing fit, and Charles wanted to hide under the table, embarrassed beyond words. Now, Charles uses them mostly to make Seb smile.

Other times, when they are away from the prying eyes of the camera and their friends, in the privacy of their homes, Charles calls Sebastian sweetheart because he loves how pretty Sebastian blushes, how pliant he becomes in Charles' arms, ready to be loved, easy to be loved.

When they've been apart for too long, time zones and continents and races gone bad stretching endlessly between them, Sebastian whispers mon coeur against the speaker of his phone. Charles' breath stutters, a tiny gasp disrupted by static. Sebastian whispers, "Mon coeur, I'm here" and sometimes it's enough to get Charles through another morning, another day, another race.

48. Who's the better driver? (aka the promp i completely lost it thinking about seb driving)

When asked about it, Charles will always say it's Sebastian. He doesn't specify if he means F1 or other cars because he is no fool. In Monaco or in Thurgau, Sebastian takes the wheel and Charles turns into a professional passenger, body relaxed, eyes kept deceptively focused on the road ahead. Sebastian driving is a sight to behold. Leaned back in his seat, lips slightly parted, tongue pressed against his teeth, sleeves rolled up to his elbows as his forearm muscles flexed with every turn. He doesn't grip the steering wheel. He stirs it with the tip of his fingers, gently, until he takes a tighter corner and his fingers close around the leather in a careful grip. Charles' mouth goes dry, shifts in his seat. Sebastian grins the way he used to when he was winning for Ferrari, ferocious and invincible as if he knows what he's doing to Charles. As if he is doing it on purpose. Then he asks if Charles has any idea if they can pick up the cake from the bakery or if Bruno has enough food at home. Infuriating. It makes Charles bang his head against the windshield and parts his legs just a little bit wider to make the trip more comfortable without properly adjusting himself. He doesn't look again at Seb.

If they fuck about it later in the car, Charles' thighs splayed around Seb's lap, hand around his neck, no one needs to know.

Along with many other emotions, jealousy is very complex emotion and requires you to break it down into tiny pieces in order for you to identify and write them.

It is very effective in writing as it helps a character realize what they really want and how badly they want it. It doesn't have to be central to the plot; it can be understated and supported by anger or fear.

It comes across in simple examples like a villain who is jealous of the hero, when two characters want one thing / have the same goal or when one character is more successful than the other.

★ ! THE TYPES ❪ 🎧 ❫ ៸ !?!

# ៸ sexual jealousy ― when a character's spouse or significant other displays or expresses sexual interest in someone else.

# ៸ romantic jealousy ― when your character fears the loss of a romantic partner or fears rejection from a potential or current romantic partner.

# ៸ possessive jealousy ― when he/she feels threatened by someone who could interrupt a friendship or relationship that they value.

# ៸ separation jealousy ― when your character has fear of separation or loss of a lover, partner, friend or parent due to their relationship with another person.

# ៸ work jealousy ― when your character feels cheated out of a promotion at work, or feels jealousy towards a specific person at work.

# ៸ friend / sibling jealousy ― When he/she feels inadequate when comparing themselves to their friends/family/siblings (they always try to one-up their friend/sibling).

# ៸ abnormal jealousy ― extreme psychological jealousy that results in or a combination of morbid, psychotic, psychological, delusional, anxious, controlling, immature and insecure behavior.

There are many reason for someone to be jealous of another person. It could be rejection, confusion, frustration, powerlessness, insecurity, suspicion, loneliness or distrust. Choose the reason that fits the type of jealousy.

★ ! HOW IT EFFECTS ❪ 🎧 ❫ ៸ !?!

Do they have an increased heart rate or body temperature? Do they become angry and clench their fist, have verbal outbursts, stare downs and tensed muscles? Do they become quiet and have a dry mouth?

★ ! THEIR REACTION ❪ 🎧 ❫ ៸ !?!

★ make up stories/gossip about that person so that others will have negative feelings towards the same person.

★ feel overwhelmed and underachieve in every sphere of their life.

★ avoid the person all together.

★ take up a bad habit or addiction in an attempt to deal with their feelings.

★ become obsessed about something (like over exercising and dieting to beat their rival in a tournament or something more sinister like plotting another character’s demise).

★ manipulate others into feeling sorry for them.

★ over criticize themselves and everything they do.

★ harm themselves, their environment or others.

★ show a blatant disregard for the needs and desires of others to fulfill their own.

★ bully or intimidate the people around them to gain a false sense of power.

★ abuse others physically or psychologically.

★ flaunt their wealth (or fame, intelligence, status, beauty, etc.) to mask their own insecurities.
