OH HECK YEAH

I figured out how to pause videos on tumblr! Take that capitalistic degradation of the internet for the sake of shoving an endless, algorithm-driven feed in my face! You cannot stop me!

Drag the video down a little, like you're going to swipe out of it, but not enough to actually leave. The video will stop and a beautiful, beautiful pause/play button will appear in the middle of the screen for when you wish to resume. Sadly it vanishes when you press play but you can repeat to get it back.

So every now and then I get an ask asking me to please share a donation petition. I've received a new one recently, and I think it is a good time to share some things that can help you figure out if it's a scam or not.

Sadly, most of these tips only work if you use the desktop version of tumblr and not the app. This is why I recommend at least verifying stuff using your phone's browser and enabling desktop mode.

Things that make me think this is a scam:

Oldest post is from two days ago.

No desktop theme enabled, directly redirects you to the dashboard view of the blog.

Can't access the blog's archive (found here: (username).tumblr.com/archive - inaccessible on the app).

No original posts aside from the one asking for donations/no original comments/tags.

Now this blog in particular was trickier than others, because the person running it did reblog fandom stuff, and they have a blog header, a custom icon, and a believable blog description.

If you were to guide yourself using only that criteria, then there should be no reason to wonder whether this is a scam or not. And that's the point. The point is to make the blog look believable.

I am genuinely sorry if this isn't a scam, but knowledge of how other scammers go about making quick money on tumblr lets me know that the points in the list above are huge red flags I simply can't ignore.

hi i saw the narnia post you made - the one where you answered an ask which you lost by saving it as a draft. i did the same thing once and then i found the ask except it wasn't at the top of the draft 'folder' as you might expect but further down, depending on the date the ask was sent (tumblr lmao). so if you go down your drafts you *might* find it, just wanted to let you know ^^, even though it's been over a month haha.

ohhh, it's based on the date the ask was sent. that does make sense, in a confusing way. it also explains why I found the ask way down in my drafts later ...except then I said "well what good are you now?!!" and deleted it, and only later thought "WAIT I COULD HAVE POSTED IT WITH A LINK TO THE FULL RESPONSE SO THE ASKER WAS NOTIFIED". lmao I am learning T_T thank you for trying to help, though!

oh god I'm sorry for not censoring it, i didn't know it works like that forgive my pea brain

HDKSKDKDJDB IT'S FINE but yeah, tumblr works like that. if you don't censor words in the "body" of the post, or even in tags, the post itself will still show up when you search for the term.

so, for example, say you wanna post a negative rant about spongebob, but you don't want spongebob fans to find your post when they use the search function. in order for your post to not show up when people look up "spongebob", you need to:

a) censor the word in the post itself each time you use it

b) censor the word in rambling tags (like when you have a super long tag in which you're going off on a tangent etc you also need to censor the word there)

c) censor the word in tags in general (if you are like me and tend to use tags for organizational purposes, tagging it as "anti spongebob" will still make your post show up in regular spongebob searches. unfortunately.)

i have also noticed that some people have tried to get around censoring by writing it out like "i cannot stand that sponge. he's such a bob". if you do this the post will still show up in searches. yeah. the only way to keep your hater<3 behavior confined to your blog is to censor the word, because not even splitting it up works.
