The mood this year, as this header photo demonstrates, was Le Tired. Just physically and emotionally slogging along. Brain stuck on perpetual static. A pull-the-covers-over-my-head sort of year. I read a few books, watched a lot of shows, found new songs to listen to on repeat, and spent way too much time futzing around on Tumblr.
But that's not what this post is about! This is to remind myself that I did accomplish writer-ly things this year, even if it didn't feel like it sometimes. So here's my 2023 Fandom Year in Review:
Drarry
🐈 A Dreadful Invasion (of the Feline Persuasion) rated G | 6K words
Most of the time, it’s easy for Harry to forget that Draco Malfoy is his next-door neighbour—until the night Malfoy seemingly goes round the twist in his back garden. Of course Harry has to investigate. A birthday gift for @caroll-in.
🍷 Under the Table rated T, 4K words
A string of nearly-insufferable dinner parties has made Draco acquainted with Harry Potter’s completely insufferable, social-climbing boyfriend. But tonight it seems like Potter’s finally had enough, and Draco’s more than happy to watch it all play out from across the table.
Microfics: Different  |  Thalassophile  |  Role play  | Careless |  Mama’s Gun  |  Raven  |  You Should Probably Leave  |  Afraid of the Dark  |  Eerie
WIP progress: I added about 25K to my Drarry retelling of Howl's Moving Castle. The working title is "Skybound" and it will be about 55 to 60K words when complete (by spring 2024, god help me!). Featuring: lots of banter, secret identities, adventures and misadventures in a floating house, a plucky house-elf, and (of course) a fire demon who wants to make a bargain.
9-1-1 fics, HP recs, and 2023 highlights under the cut!
9-1-1/Buddie
🌧️ It pours, man it pours rated T | 11K words
An endless rainstorm. A head-on collision on a dark canyon road. Eddie and Buck find themselves stranded with a woman in labor after they’re cut off from the rest of the 118 by a flash flood. With the fate of their team unknown, can they weather the night ahead—and mend the rift Buck caused by trying to kiss his best friend?
💣 A Few Good Pranks rated T | 4K words
The firefighters of the 118 decide to give Bobby a turn at pranking them after seeing how disappointed he was to be left out. And since two heads are better than one, why not three? Or four? If only they could figure out who's pranking and who isn't, and who the intended victim is. It's all in good fun, though—as long as everyone is too distracted to notice that Buck and Eddie keep sneaking off alone.
❤️‍🩹Let It Be Me rated T | 1.8K words
After another Buckley Family reunion-turned-disaster, Buck makes a decision about his parents. Of course the 118 has his back. Or, Bobby employs some LAFD equipment to help Buck out—and tell him something he needs to hear.
Episode codas/fix-it ficlets: 1x01 | 1x03 | 2x01 | 2x03 | 6x10 | 6x11 | 6x12 | 6x13 | 6x15
WIP progress: First chapter of a season 3/canon divergence Buddie fic. Featuring: angst with a happy ending, a secret marriage of convenience, and pandemic bed sharing.
HP Rec List
I was inspired by this post to rec twelve favorite fan works from 2023 in twelve days in December. It actually took fourteen days, but I did it!
💖 12 Favorites from 2023 💖
(after posting those twelve, of course I thought of a few more faves that I missed. I'll try to share them soon!)
2023 Highlights
I'm so very grateful for the wonderful, funny, imaginative people here who shared their creative works, the memes that made them laugh, photos of their pets, gif sets of shows I didn't know I needed to watch, and insights into the characters we love. You all got me through the year, honestly.
I had a good time doodling some Halloween treats for Inbox Trick-or-Treating. I hope it will become an annual Tumblr event! Thanks to the folks who rang my doorbell that night and the other blogs who gave out treats.
I truly treasured every kudos, comment, and rec I received this year. I was also very fortunate to receive a few special gifts:
🎙️ EllaMcSmellBella recorded a Podfic of "Spooked in Salem," my Drarry 'Round the World fic.
🎙️ Spades/bumblingbees recorded a Podfic of "Crimson Neon."
📕 @cheriecherishchen wrote a lovely rec for "Vortex" and designed gorgeous book covers for that fic and its sequel, "Riptide."
✏️ @saijordison drew this incredible piece of art for "Riptide."
And finally, if you read all the way to the end of this post, I'm grateful for YOU. 😁
Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year and an excellent 2024!

I’d love to read more of your (and Vinelle’s) Twilight fanfics, but I can’t wrap my head around a lot of the lore. I only have vague memories of the books, with the Volturi details being extra vague. Care to give a summary of the Aro/Carlisle situation you tend to write about? The fics seem so interesting but I’m left confused about their characters and history!
Look, @therealvinelle, praise!
And oh dear god.
If it makes you feel better this isn't a ridiculous ask as I'm having a pretty tough time coming up with what I need to summarize here. There's a shocking amount of background about very obscure characters required to 'get' all of our fics.
Well, the easy (if time consuming) answer is to go through the blog. A lot of our Twilight readers have a leg up because they've read all the metas including "what if X happened" and so are quite knowledgeable about what @therealvinelle and I will write in a given story (compared to readers of The Man Who Would Be King, HP where @therealvinelle and I have written comparably less metas, and the readers guesses are all over the place).
This will give you pretty much everything you need to know about everything we write.
Otherwise, I'll have to give a quick and dirty summary here.
The Volturi
The Volturi are the big bad of the Twilight novels if there are any at all. They're the ones who cause much of the conflict in the latter novels (if we ignore Edawrd causing all of the conflict) and are the large threat to Bella after James and Victoria are dealt with.
What's important for our fics is that they're the iron fist of the vampire world. They're not so much rulers, as they don't tell anyone what to do, don't supply any cultural institutions, nor demand tithes or taxes, but enforcers of this one law that they made up thousands of years ago. They have only one law which is "do not get noticed by humans" which has a bunch of caveats to ensure this singular law is followed.
They have such strength in gift ability and such a strong network that they're able to enforce this law across the globe and easily deal with large masses of vampires. (This has given them a terrifying reputation and causes vampires like Jasper to regard them ambivalently as he appreciates things like newborn wars not spiraling out of control but is utterly terrified of them.)
They have done this for at least two-thousand years (Meyer is notoriously terrible with dates so @therealvinelle and I get into a lot of headcanons to make this work. Given the names Aro, Marcus, and Caius and that they are reputedly Mycenean they probably gained significant power/reputation when Rome was the dominant power in the region some 1500 years after each of them was turned, meaning it's been ~2000 years that Volturi law became absolute in the Mediterranean region if not further). And have presumably been settled in Volterra since that time.
Also of note is that the Volturi (primarily Aro) recruits, sometimes heavy handedly, gifted vampires to be members of his guard. This is how he's maintained such control as he uses powerful psychics to obliterate opposition.
The Cullens run afoul of this law (or appear to) multiple times. First when Edward goes to Volterra confessing to having told Bella he was a vampire and then abandoning her while she was still human (the law is she must either be turned or die at that point), the second time hours later when Edward planned to walk into the sunlight and reveal himself to the city of Volterra, and the third time when Irina witnesses what she thinks is an immortal child and reports this to the Volturi.
This last culminates in a very tense confrontation between dozens of vampires as they try to clear up what the fuck Renesmee is and if she's a danger to herself and others.
It concludes peacefully, but tensely, as Aro concludes Renesmee is not a problem and walks away but everyone is unsure if a violent confrontation will happen later.
The Aro and Carlisle Situation
Carlisle canonically spent around 20 years (Edward notes a few decades but never specifies exactly how many) as a guest of the Volturi, specifically as a friend of Aro.
What Edward tells us canonically is that while he enjoyed his time there and was shocked to find that vampires were learned and cultured beings after all, he couldn't convert any of them to his diet and left to find kinship among other vampires (this did not go well until Carlisle turned Edward some 200 years later).
Some of the fics go over this more than others, but @therealvinelle work with the assumption that Carlisle was very young as a vampire when he came across Volterra. He'd met Alistair before that point but no one else. Volterra was then what convinced him that vampires were not inherently damned and could be learned people (something Carlisle would not have associated with demons as a 17th century priest) who have great appreciation for the arts and great knowledge of antiquity.
What @therealvinelle and I tend to presume is that Aro and Carlisle had a romantic relationship during this period (and that Sulpicia and Carlisle did as well for hilarious reasons). However, while there was true romantic affection there, it couldn't resolve the large differences between the pair and ultimately Carlisle had to leave.
Fast forward to the start of canon and Carlisle is very fond of the Volturi. He hangs their painting in his office and Edward initially speaks of them with... distant respect I suppose we'll call it which speaks to Carlisle's respect for them as Edward would get that information from him.
After New Moon Carlisle off screen was likely extremely grateful and relieved that Edward had not been executed despite Edward doing his damndest to get himself executed. That they were all returned home, Bella human even, is a relief beyond measure and Carlisle is likely very grateful for this. He is very aware that Bella must be turned though and gives his vote in New Moon (aided by the fact that the situation has become untenable for all parties involved).
However, Edward is vocally suspicious of the Volturi's intentions and Carlisle trusts Edward's judgement as well as his gift. Edward notes that what Aro really wants is his and Alice's gifts to become omnipotent. Now, this doesn't make much sense as Aro's is Edward's gift but better and if Aro had wanted this then why would he ever have let the three go when he had every excuse and ability to keep them there and bind them to the Volturi with Chelsea, but it does plant seeds of suspicion especially when Aro is notorious for adding to his guard and trying out gifted members to see if they fit. Where Edward's theories start to gain credence is in Eclipse.
Victoria is obviously building a newborn army. The death rate in Seattle skyrockets as Victoria turns ten-twenty vampires in quick succession with humans floundering for an explanation (they at first state gang violence then a serial killer as they try to figure out why this is happening). Ordinarily, the Volturi would swoop in and take care of this as soon as it becomes obvious with absolutely no issue (using either Jane or Alec for the task). The Cullens wait for the Volturi. And wait. Then wait.
It becomes clear that the Volturi aren't coming. The Cullens try to get the Denali involved (this doesn't go well) and without any other option are forced to team up with the wolves where they win the battle with no losses but with great physical injury to some of the wolves (notably Jacob has a rough time of it). Then the Volturi show up at that very moment, making it clear that they'd intentionally waited so the Cullens could be wiped out or at least had their numbers thinned. Then Jane in front of them lights a girl on fire while noting that Bella appears to be very human today, doesn't she?
Carlisle at this point concludes that Edward is correct and Aro is trying to poach Alice or sees the coven as a threat and is trying to underhandedly eliminate them.
On Aro's end, the running theory in our fics is that Caius was in fact behind this without Aro's knowledge or consent. Caius had seen Aro sending Alice, Bella, and Edward home without any restrictions as a debilitating weakness that had to be dealt with/made an example of. Caius saw an opportunity, likely the only one he'd get, and he took it giving the death squad orders to stall and wait for the battle to finish before they cleaned house. Unfortunately for Caius, this went sideways. Unfortunately for Aro, he now knows that Carlisle thinks he tried to murder his entire family in the most underhanded shady way imaginable and that nothing he can say will make it look less bad.
However, all of this is okay to a point, as Bella's being turned shortly and Alice is there to tell the Volturi that it's all going to be over and then they'll have no reason to interfere.
Except Bella gets pregnant with an alien and then Irina reports that alien as an immortal child to the Volturi.
From Carlisle's perspective this is a nightmare, they've given the Volturi a valid excuse to come and wipe them off the map. Their only hope is to gather every witness they possibly can to oversee their trial and confirm that Renesmee is not an immortal child/prevent the Volturi from murdering them all over false charges. Carlisle no longer trusts that the Volturi have good intentions or that this is simply a misunderstanding, he has a very strong suspicion that they will use anything they can to kill them all.
From Aro's this is also a nightmare, as not only is an immortal child reported (something he absolutely has to kill everyone culpable over) but Carlisle starts immediately gathering what seems to be an army. Aro has to gather an army in turn and confront him at the trial where he's witness to the world's weirdest trial where it turns out the immortal child was actually an alien and uh... guess she'll grow up okay.
However, because of how that trial goes down two things happen: Aro loses face and Carlisle's worst fears are confirmed.
Aro tries to use his powerhouses against an increasingly hostile/suspicious opponents, what happens is that Bella blocks all of them. Chelsea, Jane, and Alec are refuted in turn and Bella shows in front of a large amount of witnesses that the Volturi can be thwarted provided they have the right amount of numbers. The worst gifts they have are no longer debilitating so long as Bella is around. Everyone who's ever wanted to sack Volterra now can look over at the Cullens and see Bella Swan, a woman who is now very hostile to the Volturi.
On Carlisle's end, he sees Aro use Chelsea, Jane, and Alec presumably to murder not only his family but all of his friends who had come here only to be witnesses to see that the Volturi behaved as they are supposed to in these situations. It's worse than his every fear confirmed, Aro proves himself to be a power hungry tyrant who will stop at nothing to get what he wants including the murder of children.
Aro walks away wishing he and Carlisle might somehow repair their relationship but knowing that it is likely impossible. He also leaves knowing that a confrontation is likely inevitable and that he will more than likely have to kill Carlisle's family if not Carlisle himself.
Some if not all of this usually comes to play in @therealvinelle and my stories depending if it takes place pre, during, or post series.
Other Tips
Read fics in order they were published.
@therealvinelle and I tend to use shorthand references to things gone over in depth in other fics as we hate writing the same thing twice. Nebuchadnezzar's Dream by @therealvinelle for example goes over a lot of the canon events dealing with Aro and Carlisle and how they reacted to it as well as Carlisle's hypothetical gift that @therealvinelle and I theorize is totally a thing.
A lot of the lore in the fics that doesn't come from canon was sort of uh organically grown within the fics themselves. (Unintentionally, they all kind of take place in a weird shared universe where similar things have often happened or they diverge at a single crucial point).
Otherwise
Uh... you got anything @therealvinelle?

I know this isn't the theme of my blog but as 1.) a genderqueer person, who 2.) has a media studies degree, I want to talk real quick about JK Rowling, the idea of separating art from the artist, and why you literally cannot consume media created by JKR without contributing to real harm against real people.
First let's talk about Death of the Author, because I see a lot of people misusing it online. Death of the Author is a theory from postmodern literary criticism that basically says that an author's intentions and personal beliefs shouldn't impact how readers interpret their work. Basically, this means that the author's own interpretation of the work is just as valid as any reader's interpretation, and vice versa.
Critics who subscribe to Death of the Author believe a work should only be judged by what actually appears in the text, not by what the author later claims it "really meant." So if, for example, an author becomes radicalized after publishing her books and later claims that her racist, pseudo-fascist villains were secretly a metaphor for trans people, Death of the Author would tell you that interpretation is utter bullshit and doesn't magically become canon just because the author said it.
I see a lot of people online equate Death of the Author with the concept of "separating art from the artist," but these are separate concepts. Death of the Author just means that the author's own interpretation of their work isn't any more valid than the audience's. Separating art from artist means we as an audience can appreciate a person's artistic achievements without condoning all of their actions and beliefs. So, for example, I can appreciate that HP Lovecraft revolutionized horror fiction while also acknowledging that he was horrifically racist -- and me condemning his racism doesn't change how influential his work was.
Setting aside that there's a huge debate over whether it's even possible to separate art from artist, the main difference between HP Lovecraft and JKR is that Lovecraft is dead and has in fact been dead for so long that his work is in the public domain. That means no matter how many times I read his work, watch films based on his stories, or talk about his role in the history of modern horror fiction, he doesn't make a penny. Whether I engage with his work or not does not change the fact that Lovecraft is dead and is not getting any money from me.
JKR very much is making money off people engaging with her work, and she's openly using that money to hurt people. (See here, here, here) As long as she's raking in Harry Potter dollars, she is going to keep turning around and funneling them into hate.
I don't want this post to get too long, so here's a quick rundown of some of the defenses I've seen and why they don't work:
"I only watch the movies on streaming services! I've already paid for the subscription, so it doesn't matter what I watch with it." That's not how streaming services work. Streaming services track views to determine what content is worth throwing more money at. This is why "hate watching" makes no sense. Streaming services don't care if you like what you watch. They only care about how many viewers it brings in, and if something gets a lot of watchers, they're going to renew contracts, greenlight sequels and spinoffs, and give more royalties to the creator.
"I only watch the movies when they run on cable." Again, not how this works. Like streaming services, cable networks track views to determine what programs are bringing in the most viewers. The reason these networks run the HP movies so often is because they know people will tune in to watch, which makes them more money. They're going to keep paying for rights to run these movies until they stop bringing in viewers.
"I checked out the books from my library! I thought we were supposed to support our local libraries!" In general, yes, libraries are great, but they also operate on supply and demand. That means if books are consistently checked out and have a long wait list, the library is much more likely to order new copies to meet the demand.
"I grew up on Harry Potter."/"It's my favorite book series."/Other appeals to nostalgia. Thankfully, the HP books genuinely don't actually do anything that hadn't already been done well, if not better, by other authors. If you're craving fictional wizard schools, allow me to recommend Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett and A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin.
Last but not least, I want to remind everyone that JKR also publishes adult fiction under the pen name Robert Galbraith. Don't buy, rent, or borrow Galbraith books either.

migospel and negative man
this is going to be a bit of a disorganized post, but i was rereading my old "chara did not abuse asriel" post, and I thought of something interesting. none of this is 'new' information or a new theory-- it only supports a point in an essay I wrote years ago. but the ramble will talk about a cool enemy in mother 3, so.
in my original post about Chara, in the section where I made the point that Chara "laughing off" Asgore's poisoning was likely unhappy/nervous laughter as opposed to taking actual joy in his pain, I bring up a theory created by passivechara on tumblr.
the Hard Mode only monster Migospel "loves to laugh" when around other monsters, but becomes sad and talks about hiding their pain when alone. Migospel literally mimes Chara in this way. (the name 'migospel' likely drives from 'mime' and 'gospel', so the 'gospel' part may refer to 'truth'-- aka, Migospel miming the truth about Chara).
if we believe in the narrator Chara theory, then a monster reacting to Chara isn't even unprecedented-- napstablook responds directly to the narrator's comment about their lack of humor.
now, I would need to build this up more in a 'proper' analysis post, but since I'm just rambling on my blog, let's just accept that toby fox was majorly influenced by earthbound and the mother series as a whole. papyrus's starman costume, naming the player, flowey's "cry out into the darkness" line, and more.
bear with me, but I'm going to talk about the mother series and link this back to undertale.
so in mother 3, there's a one-time only enemy you encounter called 'Negative Man'.
Tumblr media
negative man is a joke enemy of sorts. he can do a very weak attack, but otherwise, he just says a sad line and wastes his turn. although his stats are miniscule- making him the weakest monster in the game- his HP is enormous, making his fight a bit of a chore.
people sometimes speculate why negative man is in the game. the concept of a drawn-out and irritating battle with no real challenge is definitely a mother series joke, and some people believe he's just there to add another enemy to your checklist of monsters to find and defeat if you want to 100% the game.
I think, though, that there's another purpose to Negative Man. And here we're going to get into Mother 3 spoilers so, uh. if you haven't played a game that's nearly 20 years old, then play it now and come back to this later.
...
okay? moving on.
so anyway, the interesting thing about negative man is that the music that plays when you're fighting him is 'Strong One', the same boss track that's used when you fight the Masked Man. this could just be a joke-- Negative Man is not 'strong' in any way, and the intentional complete lack of rhythm in 'Strong One' makes performing timed attacks to the beat very difficult, dragging the boss battle on more.
however, think about what's happening in the fight. you and your party are beating this creature to death who's crying and miserable, who has no will to fight, who isn't attacking (or can barely hurt you when he tries to attack), and so on. why are you doing it? because you have to. maybe negative man is just in your way, maybe you just want to fight him to 100% the game. regardless, this monster isn't fun to fight. the only reason you would intentionally fight him is because you have to.
you're probably thinking of sans's boss fight, where despite being the "weakest monster in the game" with only 1 attack and 1 defense, he has an extremely difficult and prolonged boss battle. i think that negative man could have potentially influenced toby in this way, too! but this isn't about mr. undertale himself.
now, there's another notable fight in mother 3 like this-- but the roles are reversed.
Tumblr media
in the final battle of the game against the Masked Man (with whom the 'Strong One' theme is associated), lucas's party can't be used. lucas has just learned a devastating truth about the Masked Man's identity, and it's rendered him completely unable to fight. Lucas is likely miserable in this scene, and all he can do is pass turns while the Masked Man attacks him relentlessly-- not because he enjoys it, but because- due to his reprogramming- he has to. does that sound familiar?
all this to say-- the Negative Man enemy is a reflective of Lucas, and shows insight into his emotional state. the unwillingness to attack due to a sense of misery and the 'strong one' track associated with the masked man being used support this theory.
it's notable that Negative Man is, again, an enemy you can only encounter once. Negative Man isn't a prominent part of Mother 3.
this is to say-- what does this have to do with Undertale?
Tumblr media
if we can accept the theory that the Negative Man, as a random rare enemy, could be a parallel to Lucas and reveal something about his emotional state (his misery in having to fight his own brother, the Masked Man), and if we accept that the Mother series was very influential over Toby Fox-- then it becomes even easier than before to accept the theory that Migospel is reflective of Chara and their emotions.
Migospel is only encountered in the unfinished 'hard mode' of undertale, again-- but Negative Man is only encountered once in mother 3. thus, even though Migospel doesn't have as much 'canonicity' as any other monster in the game, I think that there can be relevance to their inclusion.
this is to say-- as passivechara suggested (checks date) 7 years ago, I really do think that Migospel is more evidence that Chara isn't an evil sadistic monster when you consider the influence that the mother series had on toby.

funny that she would say "Tell me something about Dean. You can't, can you? He had no backstory," when Dean gets the most characterization out of all the Gryffindors (minus the trio + Neville). we don't know much about Seamus, besides that he loves Quidditch, that he isn't brilliant at school, that his mom is annoying and that he seems to like confrontation. that's very basic info. we don't know much about Parvati and Lavender besides that they are pretty girly, love divination, are interested in boys (and that Lavender had a bunny). i don't think we know much about both of them individually either (but that's okay because they are kind of like a codependent female duo, every school has those). but DEAN? he loves football, he is a good drawer, he is good at quidditch, but he is also a fierce fighter and has no hesitation standing up to people like Umbridge when she insults Lupin. like, come on, there is a reason why ginny choses to date him and there's a reason why Harry hates him so much -- Dean is the archetype of the nice, popular boy made up in a lab for Harry to be jealous about! he is the Gryffindor version of Cedric, in that sense. "We don't know much about Dean" he literally gets more "screentime" than every other Gryffindor (minus the trio + Neville). Dean was in the Malfoy's manor. Dean was on the run with the goblins and Ted in DH, we literally get a scene where the trio overhears him and it's such a poignant and moving scene!! Dean was at Bill and Fleur's cottage. Dean was Ginny's boyfriend. Dean was on the Quidditch team. Dean was in the AD. Dean was literally the most relevant secondary character in ootp, hbp and dh (as far as the Gryffindors are concerned). Not to mention that he has a fully fleshed out backstory - his dad was killed for refusing to join Voldemort and Dean was raised thinking he was a muggle but he finds out it's not true (we actually do get to hear some echo of this backstory in that DH scene when the trio overhears him talking to the goblins and Ted).
"He had no backstory, I don't think we even met his parents, he was just "Seamus' nicer friend"." this is projection. this is not how Dean is treated in canon, but this is how Dean is treated by the fandom. the fandom constantly overlooks Dean and ruined his characterization to make him look like Seamus' nice friend when he actually has a personality of his own and is more interesting as a character than Seamus. now, as a former Popular Deamus Blogger, i can tell you the reasons why the fandom prefers seamus over dean sooo much is a bit suspicious but i don't want to wave around the racism allegations.... but they do constantly uwu-ify Dean and reduce him to Seamus' friend while Seamus receives significantly more attention from the fandom. canon doesn't justify this, if we were to follow canon, then Dean would be the one getting more attention and fanfictions than Seamus. (Dean also has great potential for fanfictions as you can also ship him with Luna) Anyway, all this to say that this woman probably forgot all about the books and is going on a whim about fanon characterization. I'm mad she turned off reblogs because I was ready to go out of my HP blogging retirement to defend my lord and savior Dean Thomas, the best background character in HP
Girl!! In the name of all Rowlingblr, i would like to appoint you head of the Dean Thomas fanclub. That was some good fangirling.
I didn't know that Dean was currently or in some fandom spaces LESS popular than Seamus. I always thought the opposite was true! Seamus is kind of annoying and confrontational in canon. Dean is way cooler and could have been the hero of his own story. Dean x Luna had its hour of glory circa 2007 (post DH release), it was definitely a guilty pleasure of mine.
I think people who get all up Jo's ass about Lavender and Parvati being kind of vapid and annoying need to take a chill pill. It's not like they're on Pansy's level of mean and hateful, they're just not heroines. God forbid a story imply that focusing on gossip, fashion and horoscopes might not make you a role model.

january bts archive ♡
welcome to my january bts fics recommendation list! before we start, i’d like to say a few things 🥰
⇢ my blog is +18, so even if this list has some sfw stories please, minors do not interact!
⇢ this month alone i think i’ve read around two stories per day at least, but to better organize my recs i settle on 10 works per list, especially since i know i won’t be able to keep this rhythm once my classes start and i want all the lists to have the same length
⇢ this list only has fics i reviewed (reblogged) in january. it won't have ongoing series (or series i haven't finished yet), although i plan on making a series rec list in the future.
⇢ think there's some fic missing? let me know! (also, please send me hobi recs!! 😭)
⇢ lastly, this isn't in any particular order (although is somewhat the order in which i read those works).
Tumblr media
All because of you
authors ⇢ @taegularities and @hoebii pairing ⇢ seokjin x reader genre ⇢ fantasy (HP!au); friends to lovers; fluff; smut rating ⇢ +18 | minors do not interact word count ⇢ 8.3k summary ⇢ They say food is the ultimate way to someone’s heart. It would be a shame if Seokjin didn’t at least try to confirm this belief. why i loved it ⇢ this fic was a huge surprise in the sense that i didn’t know i could love seokjin even more. the way rid and melody wrote this filled me with so much warmth, but then it was pure sexyness and world wide handsome handsoming. the dialogues are amazing, but the descriptions? the way they set the mood? it’s impossible not to be drawn into the story as soon as you start reading it. ⇢ my full review (with spoilers!)
Tumblr media
Two in One
author ⇢ @here2bbtstrash pairing ⇢ hoseok x reader x jimin genre ⇢ smut (threesome); friends to lovers. rating ⇢ +18 | minors do not interact word count ⇢ 12k summary ⇢ you finally have a much-needed smoke session with your best friends, just like old times. you’re also pretty sure they’re gay… right? why i loved it ⇢ i’m sure this is one of the best examples of good mood setting i’ve ever seen. m does an amazing job here of making us interested and into all the characters involved because they are just so sexy and smooth and fucking cool. not to mention this is one of the best threesome fics i’ve ever read and well… it’s fair to say i’ve read a few 👀 ⇢ my full review (with spoilers!)

author ⇢ @casuallyimagining pairing ⇢ yoongi x reader genre ⇢ fallen angel!au; strangers to friends to lovers; fluff; angst; smut. rating ⇢ +18 | minors do not interact word count ⇢ 21k (divided in two chapters) summary ⇢ If the road to hell is paved with good intentions, then where does that leave you? Spurned by your ex-fiance, you seek the one person who can help. But as it turns out, the price of revenge may be a little more than you bargained for. why i loved it ⇢ this fic deals with a lot of heavy topics in such a touching and heart clenching way. the imagery courtney evokes here is no joke, and the atmosphere is set in a way that makes it unable for you to stop looking. the descriptions, the pace, everything is… ugh, just flawless. ⇢ my review: part 1 | part 2 (with spoilers!)

author ⇢ @eoieopda pairing ⇢ jungkook x reader genre ⇢ fluff rating ⇢ pg-13 word count ⇢ under 1k why i loved it ⇢ this is just the cutest fucking dad!au i’ve ever seen. jade writes this in such a creative way that they were able to capture years of relationship and love in such few words. i almost wanted kids after reading this lol (so i backed away immediately 🥴). ⇢ my full review (with spoilers!)

author ⇢ @uarmymoonlight pairing ⇢ jungkook x reader genre ⇢ fantasy!au; historical!au; forbidden/secret relationship!au; angst; fluff; light smut. rating ⇢ +18 | minors do not interact word count ⇢ 899 summary ⇢ two times Jungkook got so lost sliding his hands through your soft skin and staring into your gentle eyes, that he had to fight to remember the stories of brutal cold-blooded and dead-eyed killers his brothers raised him up with. stories of your kind. why i loved it ⇢ this has one of the best opening paragraphs i’ve seen in fanfiction. it’s just so good and the fever dream way it’s narrated fits the story and its theme so well that you can’t help but be swallowed by the events. although this is just a teaser for an upcoming fic, i do think it stands tall on its own, because it suggests so much and crafts such a nice world already. i just know that i'll be revisiting this a lot.  ⇢ my full review (with spoilers!)

But despite the time apart, Taehyung still does — still looks at you the same way he used to five winters ago. why i loved it ⇢ i’m not sure i loved it as much as i am sure i was completely destroyed by this. it took me hours to finish it ‘cus there were times i had to stop to try and remember how to breathe. it’s one of those stories that just stays with you way past the last word and you wanna hug each and every character until you squeeze all the sorrow and sadness out of them. it’s fucking good (and it has a happy ending, so rest assure you won’t die). also, this fic made me stop reading rid's work for a while 'cus otherwise i just know this list would be all hers lol ⇢ my full review (with spoilers!)

author: @bangtanintotheroom pairing: hoseok x reader genre: non-idol!au; rap group!au; humor; smut; strangers to enemies to lovers rating: +18 | minors do not interact word count: 37.6k summary: If it’s not the loud music, it’s the constant rapping. If it’s not the constant rapping, it’s the hysterical laughter. And if it’s not the hysterical laughter, it’s the moaning and screaming women. How the hell hasn’t your neighbor been kicked out yet? Oh right; he’s a beloved rapper.  why i loved it: this fic is just delicious. it happens in the course of five days — that start out as the worst but soon become the best ones of the reader's life! and hoseok here… let’s just say there wasn’t much sunshine and i never thought i’d love an asshole version of hobi THAT much. although it’s a longer fic, the pace is really good and it felt like watching a movie: the tension rising and the events escalating in such a delicious and continuous way that a shorter version could never provide. ⇢ my full review (with spoilers!)

Hello! May I request general relationship headcanons for the brothers from Horrortale and Dustfell, as well as Nightmare and Error? Thank you!!
Gladly! Sorry its been a year since this ask was sent, i forgot i made this blog. anyway, three relationship headcanons coming up! i went slightly overboard, sorry
Horrortale
the Horrortale brothers don't live together anymore. Crooks lives in a surface timeline that Ink put him in, and Horror lives with the Bad Sanses. Despite this, their as close as ever. Horror visits Crooks more than the other way around, as Crooks can't travel far due to his injuries. However, he makes the effort for holidays, since Horror likes to celebrate them with his friends as well.
Their prone to worrying about eachother, though, particularly about food intake. Crooks feeds his brother constantly when he visits, and Horror usually brings a homemade dish as well. Their language is definitely one of food, though usually vegetarian for Crooks' sake.
Nightmare actually has Crooks' number on speed dial in case Horror ever has a spiral. He's professional about it, but Crooks really appreciates him looking out for his older brother.
The horror brothers don't always agree on everything, Horror still eats meat despite what they've gone through and of course still attacks universes under Nightmare's orders, so it's certainly caused arguments, but mostly because Crooks is afraid of losing him again. They survived Horrortale by the skin of their teeth, and he doesn't want to see his brother get a second hole in his skull, yknow? Horror knows his brother is concerned, but he likes working for Nightmare, and Crooks ultimately wants his brother to be happy. Regardless of any and all arguments they have, their still brothers and they'll always look out for eachother. Even if Horror's job involves breaking the law, Crooks is willing to turn a blind eye.
Dustfell
With these two, however, there isn't much of a relationship anymore. Noteably because Thorn was, yknow, murdered by him and all. Though make no mistake, Thorn is not a result of any mental issue. he's essentially a ghost, caused by an excess of LV. a haunted memory, of sorts.
But he still behaves like he did when he was alive, if crueller now. He spends most of his ghostly time berating Bramble for nearly anything he does, and purposefully getting him mad so he'll lash out at living people. Oh, and complaining about his brother's uncleanliness, that hasn't changed.
Bramble ignores him, for the most part, but on Thorn's less insulting days, he can still hold a conversation with his brother. He knows full well that he's stuck with Thorn permenantly, no way to remove a ghost when its tied to your LV. And its hardly like theres anyone else to talk to in the dusty underground, at least until Nightmare drops by to check he's still alive, and offer him a place in the Bad sanses for the fifth time. He always says no, partially because he doesn't like his other selves, but partially as a self-punishment. He's still crazed by LV, but he's distantly aware he deserves to burn, like Frisk. Nightmare still keeps an eye on him, though. Just in case he changes his mind.
Thorn, of course, mocks him for his weakness, preys on his mindset of self-punishment. Never far enough to hurt him, 20 LV may be a lot but it doesn't give a lot of HP for a monster like him. But he pushes him just far enough to keep isolating from the other universes. To say their relationship is unhealthy is an understatement.
Maybe Bramble could get a happy ending someday, but it's not anytime soon.
Nightmare and Error
Well, personally, i ship them, but i'll do a non-romantic overview.
Their...co partners of the Bad Sanses, in a way. Nightmare is, officially, the boss, but Error came up with it. So, they share responsibility over their sons their lackies.
Together, their actually sort of similar, when Error isnt throwing a fit over Ink's existence. Neither like being touched, though Nightmare will tolerate it when its his lackies, and both enjoy a good book or show, they bond over soap operas.
Nightmare is, so far, the only bad sans who Error will willingly touch. and by that i mean he leans on his shoulder and sometimes falls asleep during said show watching. It's a start.
They've both been in the Multiverse for a very long time, and are both horribly out of date when it comes to basically anything modern. Error may literally be a piece of broken code, but that doesn't mean he knows how to install a TV. Nightmare did not know what a flatscreen was until Dust and Killer begged him to buy one. On that day, he dragged Error with him to pick one from Crooks' world. They ended up bickering, but Killer called it a bonding activity later on.
They bicker most days, an old married couple as Dust calls them, but some days, they really do get along.
Error taught Nightmare how to knit, Nightmare's been desensitzing him to touch with tentacle pats, and lets him infodump about whatever he's into that day. Error lets Nightmare rant when Dream gets on his nerves too much, and Nightmare taught the others how to help Error when he has a glitchout or a bluescreen.
Their relationship is certainly an action-based one more-so than word-based, but they get along as well as either of them are capable of getting along with anyone. They certainly argue, and sometimes fight, but their energies almost cancel eachother out when their alone.
Almost.

Hello, I am not from the USA or EU, I'm a Colombian woman.
Nonetheless I am horrified by the current genocide of Palestine and while my blog isn't in any way political and I try my best to make it as unrelated to politics as I can, that doesn't mean I will turn the other way when someone sends relevant info that could help a nation that's victim of so much violence. I know how it feels when the world ignores your country's struggle.
I can only hope for this war to end soon so the Palestine people can live in peace.

what's ur opinion on TERFs
not welcome in this blog or anywhere near me in general, in fact, if I see someone like that interacting with my posts it's an automatic report/block.
but I understand the ask and I must make it clear that I want nothing to do with that vile woman who shall not be named as I stand for everything that she's against, and since I can't simply delete her from reality (or send her to prison, since, frankly, that's where she should be) the least I can do is be vocal about it.
it pains me and saddens me deeply that this beloved story that has been for so long a refuge to many people, especially those of marginalised groups and minorities that saw themselves in some aspect of this fantastical world, despite its flaws, and felt empowered by its positive themes - friendship, acceptance, belonging and its power to triumph over evil and hatred - turned out to be written by this terrible, hateful, egotistical person that is now actively harassing and persecuting one of these marginalised group non-stop and with seemingly no consequences... it would be ironic if it wasn't utterly tragic and didn't have very real consequences to very real people.
this simply isn't something we can overlook. she is using her influence and her money to hurt people, and the more she gets the more evil she'll do. trans people's lives have to come first, so above anything, support them, amplify their voices, do what you can. I, for a while now, no longer consume or support anything officially hp, the movies, the books, licenced merch, bc under no circumstances I want to support this woman, whatever small the difference may be at the end of the day...
and, for this same reason, I heavily debated for a long time if I should even post anything hp related to begin with and why I ultimately decided to. I saw how the fandom reclaimed this story and characters and made it their own, working with passion and creativity to transform this universe, each making small differences for the better, to give it more depth, make it more unique, more personal, diverse and inclusive - from short headcanons, to gigantic fics - and so I thought that maybe that's what matters: this collective transformative power, building a wonderful, welcoming community for everyone. adding your own voice to a conversation but also listening to others. going against whatever the creator thinks or wants, in favour of your peers.
it is an admirable thing to love something and not only be capable of acknowledging its flaws, but to try to make it better.
and for those that grew up comforted by this story, and realised, because of it, that you were not alone, that there is a place for you, that you could be truly yourself and be loved for it: all of this still stands true, nothing that that woman says or does can destroy that, you already yield the power of this message and the meaning of it lies with you, not with her. we can't let the bigots win.

Thanks, I really appreciate it. I'll try leaving politics out. I really have nowhere else on the internet to socialize anymore since breaking from tumblr, and rn in my life situation the only chance I have of making friends is online. Sorry this is so long, I hope this much text isn't off-putting. In any case I appreciate seeing bloggers like you who keep on enjoying the game and hp universe despite all of this.
I'm nonbinary, nonwhite, studying to convert to Judaism, and I've been obsessed with hogwarts since I read the books as a child. I can't not interact with this world I love so much, not just as an escape to real life. I'm autistic and had a bad childhood and the books were the only thing that helped me deal, and now I mainly interact via fanfiction that essentially 'fixes' things from the books, and watch the movies. At this point I feel I can't live without the HP universe in my life, it is a core part of me. It bothers me that people in my own communities would essentially cast me out, because I play the game and have wanted something like this since I was a kid, that I'd be considered a bad person and cut off from necessary support. As if being accused of bigotry and hurt feelings is the only consequence I could face.
I already deal with a mild fear that toxic ex friends from on here will find my new blog, because of the way they went about ending our friendship. I'm afraid if they find my blog, which is loosely connected through a few old friends, they'll see it and put me on blast/ screenshot my blog/ talk about me with their friends like they used to. Like I used to (which I regret) because that's behavior that people in my 'community' encouraged when someone 'needed calling out' even if it was a mistake, or a well intentioned attempt at conversing and understanding someone else's pov to learn. I'm afraid to post screenshots on my main, or attach my HL sideblog to my main, in case it gets me hateful interactions which I have no heart to deal with anymore. It seems like hating this game and anyone who plays it is the stance of the majority of online LGBT spaces rn. I don't wanna hide it, but also need support from online spaces. I even feel bad playing and haven't gotten very far because this has all cast a negative feeling on the game for me.
I'm so sorry you're struggling with this and it honestly shouldn't be like that, but I'm well aware that things are nearly never black and white. There's a whole lot of grey in the world and most people do not know how to deal with it. That's how you get bullies, haters, scapegoats, and the list goes on.
I did not grow up with the books but I did grow up with the movies and I rewatch them regularly. I also love to read tons of fix-it fanfics (my favourite character is snape, of course, I need alternate universe fics where he survives lmao). I feel like most people hate so much on others enjoying the world of Harry Potter and therefore now Hogwarts Legacy because they are notoriously online and forgot what life is like in the real world. Things are not as simple as "Oh, you play this? Then you're EVIL". A lot of times, just like in your case, franchises give us support and strength, because life is fucking hard sometimes. Most times. Especially as a minority, I can't even imagine what fears you must face. And instead of realising that NOTHING we consume is pure and that people should look closer whether a person uses a franchise to gain strength from it or to spread hate, people rather point with their fingers and gatekeep their own communities, not realising how much damage they do on a broader scale. It's not only the people they keep out, it's also the people who listen in on this infighting and either get turned off from ever engaging with those communities (in positive ways) or the wrong people use exactly that to fuel their own hateful agendas. It's damaging all around, all because people prefer to take the easy route and accuse rather than discuss and understand.
Honestly, I get why you in your specific situation can't really say "fuck it" and ignore any possible consequences but I also think you shouldn't deprive yourself of what brings you genuine enjoyment. My suggestion would be to create a completely new main Tumblr blog with a second mail address and then a sideblog for your HP needs. And considering how you can look through the Hogwarts Legacy tag and finds SO MANY active players and defenders of the game who are, at the same time, completely against JK Terfling's insane views, shows that you can have your cake and eat it too. So far I experienced this community as very supportive and you just block everyone who gets aggressive. It makes your online experience so much more enjoyable, believe me.
You will not be able to stop people from talking about you. But you can stop it from affecting you as much as it does and seek out people who wouldn't do that to you in the first place.
Man, this got long and rambly and I don't know if anything of what I wrote makes sense BUT
you're always welcome in my asks and I bet the same goes for other Hogwarts Legacy fans on here. We got each other's back.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
thanks for tagging me @achilleslikespeas and @kaleidoscopexsighs xx
self awareness speedrun incoming
1. How many works do you have on ao3?
six
2. what's your total ao3 word count?
45, 234
3. What fandoms do you write for?
I've only got marauders published at the moment, but I started writing for bbc merlin & sherlock back in the day on my old blogs. and there's twilight and vampire academy fic that will never see the light of day.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Pool Boy at the Vampire Mansion a dracula au
Angel of Small Death my first lesbian wolfstar
Carve my Name lesbian prongsfoot
The Beautiful Lady (without mercy) more lesbian wolfstar
Four out Five canon adjacent jegulus (&my first ever hp fic!)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
ALWAYS! I love every single comment, when I'm feeling particularly self destructive and abandoned by my creativity I go back and read them
6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I don't personally consider anything I've written angsty (but I could be wrong) but in my eyes the ending of the beautiful lady isn't happy, but it is ambiguous & up for interpretation
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Angel of Small Death!
8. Do you get hate on fics?
no, thankfully! I'm in a very small bubble and very lucky to have very supportive mutuals (and readers) also I've had anons turned off since I started this blog

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
no
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
no
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not yet! But I would love to, creative collaboration is my favourite thing about fandom so hit my line
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
I'm a sucker for wolfstar but lately I've become consumed by prongsfoot
15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
This is for the lions, the sequel to Pool Boy that I've all but abandoned (one day I will finish it) and I've got slytherin sirius prongsfoot going in the background
16. What are your writing strengths?
blunt & punchy descriptive language
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Most of my fics are collections of small scenes and one shots, anything longer I struggle to link scenes/chapters together so a lot of it happens "off screen"
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
great for other people but not for me
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Twilight & it was a self insert where I went on a date with Edward to the aquarium & slow danced (I had undiagnosed mental illness)
20. Favorite fic you've written?
Angel of Small Death will always be special to me
this was very fun!! tagging @maliceofminds, @hihimissamericanbi , @spookymoonie if you want to! I'm nosy as always but no pressure besties xx

My Jing Yuan build ( ╹▽╹ )
Tumblr media
Just a simple blog with screenshots of my Jing Yuan and some of my thoughts how I'm planning on building him and such other things. This isn't going to be the most coherent post so apologies about that (ꏿ﹏ꏿ;) This is mostly just screenshots of what I have relics I have on him, his trace levels and so on. So this isn't an in-depth post about the tiny details of his kit and game play.
Oh! Constrictive criticism, suggestions and tips are welcome l! Just keep in mind that I'm more of a casual player who did spend quite a bit of money on Jing Yuan (^~^;)ゞ
Details
Tumblr media
Nothing much to say. I'm happy about his CRIT rate to CRIT dmg ratio. It could be better but it's good for now ( ╹▽╹ ) and I am planning to ascend him but I'm currently mostly working on Arlan and Bailu. I could also work on his speed but yeah
Light Cone
Tumblr media
Yes I got his light cone and I'm just happy to have it. Before I got it I used "The Seriousness of Breakfast" but then I obviously changed to this beautiful masterpiece (◡ ω ◡)
I was actually really surprised that I managed to get it as I thought my shity luck from Genshin would follow me to Star rail but I was wrong.
Traces
Tumblr media
One thing I like about Star rail is the more skill tree look they designed the Traces menu. It's mostly just a personal preference as I grew up with games with skill trees. It also helps me keep on track with what I need to focus on and what needs leveling up.
One thing I find really useful about having Jing Yuan on my team is when Lighting god spirit has its turn. At first I was confused how it worked but I figured it out pretty fast. His ult is also really pretty (✯ᴗ✯)
Relics
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now just a quick overview of the relic sets and the current best relic I have. Currently I've been grinding to get better relics but I keep getting ones with DEF and HP. Which I wouldn't mind if they weren't on the relics I need for Jing Yuan ಠ∀ಠ
But I'm content with the stats, though they could be better and I would like to have more useful 5* relics.
Edolons
Tumblr media
Yes I have him at E1. I somehow managed to get his first edolon with only a few days left on his banner. I honestly didn't think I would get it but here we are (人*´∀`)。*゚+
The end
Tumblr media
So I hope that y'all enjoyed this random rambling and me showing my Jing Yuan. This also works as a nice bookmark of sorts for me to look back on in the future. Anyway hope that y'all have a good day and see ya!

There's a lot of rumblings about people debating if TWST would work in a visual novel format. I don't think that would work out very well for the same reasons that a lot of the bigger TWST blogs mentioned. But what I think would work better for TWST instead is the Fate direction.
For those of your who don't know, the original Fate Stay Night visual novel had three separate routes featuring a different love interest for Shirou. In the "true" route, he gets together with Arturia. In Unlimited Bladeworks, it's Rin. In Heaven's Feel, it's Sakura.
While some plot beats happen no matter what (like Archer wanting to kill Shirou), the story completely changes depending on the route you are on. In Fate for example, the turning point is when he didn't use a command spell to stop Saber. However, in UWB, he did. In Heaven's Feel, he walked Sakura home, making her more interested in Shirou. Also, Fate and UBW are similar because of the similar tone and themes, but still have different outcomes depending on the choices you pick. Heaven's Feel is the darkest out of all of the routes, featuring A LOT of character death that doesn't happen in the other routes.
I think this would be a best of both worlds situation. Unlike a traditional Otome, there would character options that are allowed to be strictly platonic no matter what for those who are more averse to romance. But there's a real option for romance for those who want it. It would also be a lot easier on developers since you only have to flesh a few relationships instead of a couple dozen, and you don't have the huge headache of dealing with the butterfly effect changes for dozens of character routes.
There's a catch. For in order for this to work, they need to write an actual female character, not a blank slate. (While this would work for a male or non binary MC too, let's face it—this is Disney we're talking about, and they would never greenlight something like that for multiple LGBTQ+ couples.) Shirou has an actual character and impact on the plot. Doing this with a blank slate wouldn't work since the MC wouldn't be able to have much option to push the story and change things. Another catch is that well...you can't do this with everyone and Yana would have the make a tough choice about who you can romance. (I think the most likely would be the Overblot gang as a whole with Malleus being the "true" route, but that's just me.) Give and take, I guess.
Having said this, people do stuff like this in fanfiction form. Even with me, I have my own "Yuu" named Adriana for my fic series who is shipped with Jamil, and share another "Yuu" named Lizzie with my friend @stormkitty97 for an HP/TWST crossover we're writing who is shipped with Vil. These two are drastically different characters.
Lizzie is a half white and Japanese squib who is able to use her tiny magical core with the help of the pens and crystals like how Luz is able to use magic with the sigils in TOH. She's also a middle class girl from England, who is quiet and bookish, but is also witty, sarcastic and can be quite jealous and vindictive at times. (Or at least that's my read of her, anyways.) She understands some Japanese, but doesn't understand French.
Whereas Adriana from my own works is a rich latina (Cuban, Mexican with a dash of Sicilian for good measure) from Vancouver, Canada, who is an ambivert, who is sassy, bold, analytical, manipulative, secretive and guarded. Adriana isn't a bookworm like Lizzie, but is much more into cartoons, anime and videogames, even making a lot of pop culture references. She also likes to party while Lizzie doesn't nearly as much. Due to her status as a former popular mean girl, she has more "villain" traits than Lizzie in some aspects. Adriana knows a fair bit of French thanks to going to a French Immersion primary school when she was younger and some Spanish thanks to her mom being fluent in it. Her Japanese skills are non existent, despite having a Japanese stepfather.
Each of these series will take radically different directions compared to the other. Adriana and Lizzie are completely different people, who make different choices based on their background and personality. Adriana's has zero resistance to magic, which causes a lot of problems.
They also each get closer to a different dorm outside of Heartslabyul due to their respectful love interests. Lizzie gets closer to the Pomefiore characters, including Vil and Rook. Adriana gets closer to the Scarabia Dou and some other residents from that dorm, having more of a coworker relationship with Rook and Vil later on and only being friends with Epel.
In conclusion, I guess, read TWST canon rewrite fanfics with female "Yuus" with a pairing marked off. (You can do the same with male and non-binary Yuus as well, obviously.) You'll get pretty much the same effect that I mentioned here. One rec on the top of my head is Thorns and Ink by @thosebrookfieldgirls.

Picking up from my previous post, let's jump into Episode 5 of a Starstruck Odyssey!
Live-blog of watching a battle episode is probably gonna be a little more spotty than the ones before, but we'll see.
Because yes, I can admit it, this is turning into a live blog. Blow by blow, here we go.
Surprised it took this long to suggest shifting the slug to another body.
Double nat ones. Always great when that happens (sarcastic). (Now I'm wondering, how many spare sets of dice do they travel with? Cos I know I have a few, but unless I'm running the game, I leave most of them home.)
Eleven hp total? Heck.
17.5 ft off the ground?! That's a jump and a half.
Save Gunnie from further damage, yes. Fewer expenses is better.
Why is it always Murph Brennan makes roll for arrival of NPCs? It made sense in FH, but now? Is this because of the running joke that is Murph's rolls, or just the cool parallel of it? (Especially since they need these folks to show up, just for a very different reason than the first time.)
Only in this game is taking the time, mid battle, to sort things out with your bank a good use of time.
If I had a penny for every time a D20 character took a moment mid battle to sort out their finances, I'd have two pennies. Which isn't bad, but it's weird that it's happened twice.
"In this galaxy, there's always less going on than meets the eye. Many people are coming after you, but they're not all coming after you all, and they don't all know the same stuff, and they don't all talk to each other. Information is currency, and you understand currency." That last sentence is gold. But I grabbed it in context because the crew have a lot of enemies, and if their enemies team up, they'll be in serious trouble.
#BeardsleyBlessed
When the party is more concerned about damage to a little flying scooter than the PC riding it. Barbarians rock, man.
Gunnie is baby? Gunnie can lose his legs. Oh, that is a weird mental image.
Nine of them at once! Yesss. Go Murph!
Banking in the Box! Surprisingly good move.
"I don't wanna fight you." "I don't wanna fight me either."
"Murph would've allowed it. He's a good dm." Murph's reaction, the moment before he gave in and agreed, would say otherwise.
Nat 20! These are the moments to save 20s for. And they got Brennan to kiss the die. Yeah, I wouldn't be rolling with that one in a desperate situation until I'm sure it'll behave.
"That's a pretty neat trick." "Oh, that was just a bonus action." I love the idea that some of these phrases are actually being used in universe, just by the sorts of people who move in particular circles.
Warfare Whitney is on the board! All we're missing now is Barry Nine (and someone with something against Riva), and we'll have the whole set.
Some parties toss halflings, here we toss mercs.
I wanna read that Hot Exit Binder. Sounds like it would be fascinating.
Five star review? Five Star Review!
Damn, that was fun. I had to split the episode in half to get through some other stuff, which was a shame, but eh *shrugs*. Between this and the previous episode they are seeding so many potential plot threads.
I'm starting to get the feeling that Brennan doesn't have a big-bad planned for this season, but rather four or five potential big-bads, with the final battle being determined by how the group play, and who they've already allied with/defeated by the time they get there. Which, if that's the direction this is going, would be cool.

OMG
When I started this blog a week ago, it was because earlier that evening a parent brought their child, "Hudson," to a playdate with my child, "Judson," stayed to chat, and mentioned the idea of withdrawing Hudson from school to homeschool.
Of course I asked why. Of course I did.
It was too difficult, Hudson's parent told me, to get Hudson to school on time every morning. Though their full - time job is as Hudson's parent, with no other children or responsibilites outside the home, it was too difficult, as a "night person," to get him to class in a timely fashion. Lately, Hudson's teacher had expressed frustration Hudson was missing math class every time he arrived to school late. A perfectly natural concern; you can't teach a student who isn't there, can you?
Hudson's parent informed me they'd told the teacher she should fit in the math Hudson missed during the remainder of the day.
(Sigh. That poor teacher.)
Frankly, I was appalled. However, I know from experience this is just the beginning. I was also withdrawn from school for a parent's convenience, and a HP's convenience is a bar that lowers every passing year. I distinctly remember my HP telling me them turning on a baseball game they wanted to see on TV "counted" as homeschooling - Hey, physical education! - but the moment that sentence came out of their mouth... well, even as a child, I knew then and there what the real game was.
Cross your fingers for Hudson, y'all. Maybe he'll get luckier than I did.
