Story - summary

Vivian is one of the best reporters at the company. She’s one of the hardest working employees there. Everyone is impressed with her work.

So, why is she not a TV star yet?

After six months at her latest job, she asks her boss if she can go on camera. He tells her to wait, not to rush into things. She quits then and there. Vivian wants to be a star now, and she is tired of working “backstage jobs.”

Without any solid plan, she contacts the job hunter and hires them to find a job for her. Meanwhile, she pampers herself and gets herself ready to shine on camera. The job hunter calls back shortly after, and they say that a big TV network in Apple is looking for someone to work for their channel.

She assumes it’s for the News Channel, and she agrees to the interview - turns out it was an opening for the Documentary Channel. They need a reporter for their Miraland Geographic documentary on Wasteland. Vivian signs on as a reporter... although she hopes to change it to make it more of a reality show.

Vivian meets Jiang Beixi at the airport. The two plus the producer are the only ones on the team. Beixi packs a simple bag; Vivian lugs three full suitcases behind her. During their flight, the two of them go over ideas. Vivian suggests hyping the local cultures up and sensationalizing them.

Beixi says no cultural appropriation. “Their songs, dances, and languages are sacred,” she says.

But everything Beixi wants to focus on are boring, academic parts of Wasteland.

It’s going to be a long journey for these two women.

Connections

-This is Part 1 of an unofficial trilogy surrounding Miraland Geographic, the other two being TV Partners’ Poem of the Wild and Vivian’s Summer Sunflowers, in that order.

-Jiang Beixi is sisters with Jiang Xitong. They’re both strong academics, and they both would rather focus on informative lectures than appealing to the audience (much to everyone’s dismay).

-Here, Vivian still focuses on fame and stardom when it comes to reporting, even though she’s very skilled. By the time the trilogy concludes in her Reflection for Summer Sunflowers, she has learned to appreciate Wasteland for its true beauty, while also finding a way to hype it up in a way that’s respectful to the culture.

Fun Facts

-Even though Vivian dreams too big with her jobs, this Reflection still shows workplace sexism that a lot of people face. The bosses praise her talent, declare she’s the best employee there, but then refuse to promote her.

-Whereas Vivian cares about appearances and popularity in a show, Beixi focuses more on information and detail. They don’t come to a full agreement on anything until Part 3 of this trilogy.

-For the longest time, this was the only suit Indexed under View of Wasteland. The other two suits currently there, Poem of the Wild and Spirit of Anuwa, didn’t appear until Jan 2020 for the SSR event.

UPDATE:

The thing with Urban Aztec is that there will be a few original programs so that it makes them stand out more and more special.

Here are about five that I have in mind which you can read below that are strange, distinct and out-of-the-box.

A MILLION WAYS TO DIE HORRIBLY

A darkly comedic adult-animated series that's a modern equivalent of 1000 Ways To Die. In the same animation style as 2000s and early 2010s action cartoons, this show is a delightfully morbid docufiction on unusual "supposed" deaths.

THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY

A stylized live action series that is based off of the 1903 Thomas Edison film and is done in the classic silent film style with sound used for effective moments.

THE PATRICE O'NEAL SHOW

An autobiographical sitcom based loosely on the criminally underrated Patrice O'Neal's childhood growing up in Roxbury while also mocking the sitcoms of the many decades.

THE STORYTELLER

A reboot of the also criminally underrated '80s Jim Henson series that is done on the same level of quality and care and craft of the short-lived Netflix prequel The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance with Louis Leterrier back as director.

ATTACK ON TITAN: DEATHWATCH

An American made sequel series and female-led spinoff to Attack On Titan, focusing on Mikasa Ackerman and Historia Reiss that's done in the same animation style and grounded feel of the anime's first two seasons.

Anyway, if I had a nickel for every time a series had six installments that gradually escalated in ridiculousness, only for the sixth installment to end with a universe reboot and the seventh installment to pick up in a new universe where alternate versions of the original characters now exist in the distant past, I'd have two nickels.

One of those series is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. The other is Riverdale

Narrated by Vivian.

Narrator: Three months later, I come to an airport with three big suitcases.

Choose either “Are you moving?” or “Shouldn’t I travel light?”

If “moving,” ...

You: That’s quite a load... You moving elsewhere or something?

Narrator: Moving? Haha. I’m doing an oversea shooting. You forgot that? Field exploration on Wasteland.

Narrator: I’m all set. Coats, sprays, sleep mask, yoga mat, sunscreen lotions, cosmetics, and clothes!

If “travel,” ...

You: Are you not supposed to travel light?

Narrator: I’m going into Wasteland! I can never prepare too much!

Narrator: Coats, sprays, sleep mask, yoga mat, sunscreen lotions, cosmetics, and clothes. I want nothing less!

Vivian: About time to gather up. Where’s the team?

Narrator: The photographer has already been waiting at the boarding gate, with a smart outfit and a giant black haversack.

Photographer: Hmm, you are?

Narrator: Didn’t think that the cameraman would be a girl.

Narrator: She’s got a serious face, bright eyes, and shoulder-length hair. A brisk makeup it is.

Vivian: Sorry to keep you waiting. I’m Vivian. Where’s the rest of the team?

Photographer: Well, it’s just us, producer, reporter, and photographer. We will meet the guide and the driver when we arrive there.

Photographer: Hi, I’m Jiang Beixi, the photographer.

Narrator: Jiang Beixi and I shake hands, from which I can feel the tremendous power in her. No wonder she’s a photographer.

Narrator: Nevertheless, just the two of us going to Wasteland... The team is more of a cheapskate than I imagined.

Narrator: Luggage settled and seat taken, I think I should build an intimate bond with my partner.

Vivian: Hey, may I call you Beixi? This will be my first time in Wasteland. It kinda freaks me out.

Narrator: Of course, I expect more than a nod from her. Then, Jiang Beixi quickly pulls out a laptop for me.

Jiang Beixi: Any idea on the production of the current program?

Vivian: Um, I didn’t give it too much thought...

Jiang Beixi: This is my outline. Take a look. We can exchange ideas.

Narrator: On the screen are cramped words about introductions, references, and the conclusion several pages down.

Narrator: I almost fall asleep.

Vivian: “Unveiling Contemporary Wasteland... with three episodes... Heritage... Transition of Resources... and Future Path...”

Narrator: What are these...

Vivian: I don’t think... Audience can get the idea, or watch them through.

Narrator: Maybe I was too blunt. Will that get on Jiang Beixi’s nerves?

Jiang Beixi: You mean?

Vivian: I... I didn’t think much about that. Why don’t we see what’s fun there first? Then hype it...

Vivian: Rapper of the tribe! What do you say?

Jiang Beixi: Tribal characters, songs, and dances bear special meanings. That’s a horse of another color.

Vivian: But we need an idea to attract most audience’s attention and keep the common touch, right?

Jiang Beixi: No trickery.

Narrator: After all the talk, we’re comparing apples to oranges. We are literally on the different channels.

Vivian: ...How about we take a rest? We’ll get back to that when we are there.

Narrator: Jiang Beixi nods, covers up with a blanket, and falls asleep.

Narrator: I let out a sigh of relief... That’s, I’m afraid, the first consensus between us.

Narrator: Curiosity drives me to open the staff manual. I’m stunned the moment I lay eyes on Jiang Beixi’s profile.

Vivian: Journalism major from Spencer College? Excellent doctoral graduate? Winner of News Award last year?

Narrator: That Serious Face is the real deal?

Narrator: I hold my breath, glancing at Jiang Beixi.

Narrator: As someone who dropped out of college, I can see her shining like a diamond.

Narrator: But how come she’s in this shabby team?

Narrator: Upon the thought of the long and tedious proposal...

Narrator: I come to realize what’s that about. No wonder!

Choose either “What do you mean,’no wonder?’” or “Got it.”

If “wonder,” ...

You: Yes? No wonder what?

Narrator: You don’t get it? Looks like you haven’t known the cruelty of the society enough!

If “got it,” ...

You: I think I get it.

Narrator: Right? I’ve met this case before...

Narrator: What’s the big deal of a diploma? One may not be able to put theories into practice.

Narrator: Jiang Beixi must be the director’s favorite.

Narrator: Poor producer can neither put a doctor to use nor send her away, hence she’s shoved into this marginal program.

Narrator: I do have sympathy for the producer who’s in the quandary!

Choose either “Don’t get you at all” or “Aren’t you the unlucky one?”

If “don’t get,” ...

You: I don’t quite understand you media people.

Narrator: Why? Just you ask me.

Narrator: That said... I’m gonna have a rough time.

If “unlucky,” ...

You: But are you not the one down on luck?

Narrator: ...

Narrator: Yep!! I’m the one with the worst luck!
