sally jackson, who had so much trouble raising her son, and endured so much heartbreak, starts a support group for mortal parents of demigod children. they're not all in new york, but zoom and google meet and a dozen other video chat options exist. they meet once a week on monday evenings, and after their child comes back from a quest. they drink wine, talk about their child rearing experiences, and light some food on fire to complain to a god. (they choose which god with one of those spinning wheels.) they rotate between apartments, but sally's is used most often. when percy is home, he regales them with tales of his quests. (their favorite story is after the battle of manhatten, when percy rejected immortality and demanded child support.) sometimes sally will let him have a glass of wine with them and tell them what each god is really like.

Kiara isn’t quite sure what she expected when she spur of the moment decided to move in with three single guys she'd never met. She figured they’d probably keep to themselves and that she wouldn’t have much in common with them. At least one was probably a slob and there would be a constant parade of girls in and out of the apartment. She'd have to use her meagre savings to buy noise cancelling headphones or she'd get stuck doing all the cleaning just because she was a girl. 

To be honest, she was fifty-fifty on the whole thing working out at all, but she was desperate.

Strangely enough though, she fits in perfectly. Between the practical jokes and the late night beers, the ridiculous made up games and random road trips in the communal beat up VW van dubbed the Twinkie for reasons she's still not certain of, it’s almost like she’s always been there. Like despite all the shit that’s happened, the stress and worry and constant fighting that led her here, she was meant to end up in apartment 4D.

like. they all just hopped on the capitalism train because of the hunger games’ success and like. just copy-catted instead of like, using dystopia for its intended purpose: to tell the reader what (the author thinks) society should never be like, based on an existing issue in the real world. like, most YA dystopia is straight up just made to capitalise on the dystopia craze without actually putting any political thought into a very political genre :/
