(Forgot to post this here!)
Borrowed vlambase’s alien to make a little something for Malex’s wall! The tiny happy cactus is me sleeping soundly cause all our couples were happy this episode. (Except for Kyle. Sorry Kyle.)

Episode thoughts under the cut
I loved Morty knowing Rick so well that he just straight up lies about the coffee lmao. Also the way he says 'hey buddy' like he's a dad entering his kid's room when they're in a depressive episode is so funny to me
Rick just literally saying 'family' to address the family
I thought the ghost/unfinished business joke was funny
I also love Rick being so petty (and Summer being petty back about the portal). It's so funny that he just calls the family 'stupids' as well. Devastating insult bro
Interesting that Gearhead was the first person he went to? He definitely needed someone to give him the courage to get the rest of his friends for an intervention (especially BP)
'Told you he wasn't dead' killed me
BIRDDAUGHTER. Funny name, love her being an emo teenage edgelord who just goes round killing Gromflomites. 'This is worse than prison'? Love it
Also I really liked that we got to see this side of BP's character this episode? He's so funny and I love getting to see him be a shit. Him trying to parent his daughter and just drinking wine? We love another alcoholic girldad
I really liked getting to see Rick/BP/Squanchy actually hanging out as well? I feel like it's a good insight into how they probably were back in the Flesh Curtains days
I like the 'birthday, birthday, birthday' gag
Also Rick immediately being like 'fuck this we're getting wrecked'
The honey scene was definitely for the Rickfuckers
Can we talk about the fact that Rick was definitely trying to impress BP by bringing up the fact that he hosted the Oscars? Which is definitely why he wanted that gig in the first place
Once again I love getting to see this side of Birdperson. Definitely makes sense why he and Rick get on so well
I liked the visual gag of Rick being high
Also BP and Squanchy playing the knife game lmao
Rick sits so fucking dramatically
Look at BP's face, he definitely wants to fuck that Predator guy
Son heist
I love that Rick can immediately identify Squanchy's shit based on the smell? Like he knows it's his and no one else's
BIRDPERSON PUTTING HIS HAND OVER RICK'S MOUTH
(You know Rick is gonna be thinking about that forever)
I like the recurring Squanchy tooth thing
'Why is this my thing' lmao
Poor poopy child
WAYNE
Them all just chilling together waiting for their drunk food? love it
I love BP leaving to collect his daughter from attacking a Federation outpost with the exact same energy as a parent collecting their child from school after they got suspended. It's so funny to imagine the GF having the same sort of vibe as they do with Rick and just texting BP like 'yo we got your daughter here' (I know that's not what happened but it's a funny mental image)
Lmao Squanchy
I did like the fading pill bit
Poor Gene
Overall I liked getting to explore this aspect of the dynamic between Rick/BP/Squanchy/Gearhead (+ the others of course but they're the OGs yk?) and also the concept of intervention/alcoholism. I think it's interesting to see that Rick does want to help but his support system is so fucked that this ends up happening and it makes a lot of sense when it comes to his own issues. I really like the way they handle Rick trying to get better and do the right thing but struggling so much to break out of unhealthy behaviours/habits. He's painfully aware of how fucked up he is and how much of a bad influence he is but he doesn't know how to fix the issue/be a positive influence and he definitely views abandonment as a good thing because he's removing himself from the situation. Very interesting way to explore this aspect of his issues, especially since all his friends are also alcoholics with that level of denial/refusal to get better
I had this discussion with @hazelnut-u-out before the episode aired but I do like that they're showing Mr PB directly suffering as a result of Rick's actions in canon? Considering that he started as a joke/meta character it's very interesting to show him actually shifting to more of a serious character who appears in the actual show and experiences real issues, especially since the show becomes less and less sitcom-y as Rick becomes more aware of the reality of how fucked up all of these things are.

You know what else? They could have shown us Alex wandering around the pocket dimension in his cute apocalypse gear this whole time. It didn't have to be Tyler, just a body double approximately the same size as him. He was alone so he wouldn't need to speak, and there wouldn't have needed to be any obvious signs that it was Alex anyway to build the drama and mystery. They could have shown him stalking Dallas and Bonnie at a distance. If they'd done it from the episode after he got quicksanded they could have shown him exploring, leaving his little signs, setting up his trap, even doing the communication in 406 and 407!! At which point we'd go oh shit! That's Alex!
It'd still be annoying that there had to be a ~ conduit~ but at least it would make sense to SEE Alex go I have to contact Michael I have

Will You Meet Me In The Middle
Preview of Chapter 10: This Is Why I Need You?
A loud crash sounded out through the wooded area. The final wall of the cabin was dropped. The old wood shattered as it hit the ground. Michael used his powers to start lifting the old pieces into the dumpster they had delivered to the property. Alex watched him as he leaned against the back of the truck. The bed of the truck had a large stack of timber that was strapped down. It was going to be the frame for the new house.
Michael pulled a bottle of acetone out of his back pocket and took a swig of it, “Alright, that should be it.”
“Which walls do you want to start with?”
“Probably the front first”, Michael walked over to his husband. “Wanna work on putting that together while I expand the foundation?”
“Sure”, Alex hooked his thumbs into Michael’s jeans to pull him closer. Michael pressed a kiss to Alex’s cheek before pulling him into a hug. Alex hummed contently as he returned it.
“If we plan this right, we should have the entire first floor framed by the end of the week.”
“I better get started then, huh”, Alex asked but didn’t pull away yet.
 “I guess so.”
Michael gave him another kiss before pulling away. He walked past Alex to grab the cement bags from the cab of the truck. Alex gave his butt a swatas he passed before he started to undo the straps holding the wood down. There was a box of new tools also in the back of the truck that they had purchased for their project. Alex pulled out several two-by-fours. He laid them out in the approximate sizing for the first wall.
The blueprints for the house were soon stretched out on the hood of the truck. The corners were held down by some rocks. Alex referred to it several times before he cut the pieces to the correct lengths. The air compressor hummed loudly when flipped on. The nail gun was louder than Alex had anticipated when he first used it. He flinched slightly at the noise.
It reminded him too much of a real gun. Which generally was not a problem for him. Alex had been at the gun range several times since he returned from Iraq.
Taking a deep breath, Alex continued on. Each board connection only needed two nails to hold them in place. He could do this.
     Kachush. Kachush.
     Kachush. Kachush.
     Kachush.
     Kachush.
     BANG.
Alex inhaled sharply and squeezed his eyes shut. The quiet of the forest felt heavy. Music continued to play quietly from Michael’s truck. Alex took a slow breath and opened his eyes again. He needed more boards. The nail gun thudded against the dirt as he left it behind. Alex wiped his sweaty hands on his jeans before grabbing another armful of boards. Using the saw to cut those was easier. He focused on cutting more of the pieces than he needed at the time before glancing at the nail gun laying in the dirt.
The compressor had gone quiet after not being used. When Alex picked it up and pressed it against the wood, it fired up with a roar.
     Kachush. Kachush.
     Kachush. Kachush.
     Kachush.
     Bang.
     Bang.
     BANG.
     “MANES!”
Alex clenched his jaw. PTSD was a bitch. It rarely crept up on him unless it was a quiet and peaceful moment. That was the only nice thing about the chaos of Roswell. There was never a quiet or peaceful moment that lasted long. Bad memories only came up when he interacted with his now-deceased father or was lying at home staring at the ceiling through another sleepless night.
The nail gun was pressed against the next section of wood as Alex began again.
     Kachush. Kachush.
     Kachush. Kachush.
     Bang.
     BangBangBANG. “MANES!”
Alex’s head snapped up. His entire body felt numb and disconnected. Eyes darted back and forth before they focused on movement. Johnson was crawling towards him over hot sand. Blood freckled his face and coated his helmet.
     “Johnson”, Alex wheezed.
“Hold on, Cap”, Johnson muttered as he grabbed his hand in a death grip. Alex could barely feel it. Head dropping back down onto the ground, Alex gazed at the sky. It was filling with smoke and dust. There was barely any blue to be seen.
     “Captain, keep talking to me.”
Alex rubbed a hand over his face with a frown. He stood up to compare the blueprint to the frame. He leaned over it, both hands on either side of the large paper. It was difficult to get himself to focus on what he was reading so he rolled his neck out and looked at the blue sky overhead.
Michael noticed the tension in his husband’s shoulders when he glanced over. A frown was settled over his face. He watched as Alex finally pushed himself away from the truck and returned to the frame lying in the dirt. Michael sighed and focused back on his work with the cement. The foundation had to be tripled in size to support the new house. The old one also needed some repair since it had been damaged over time.
     Kachush. Kachush.
     Kachush. Kachush.
“Hold on, Cap.” Johnson cursed under his breath as he examined the damage. The Humvee had landed on Alex’s legs. Only one was pinned. Blood soaked the sand.
     “Captain, keep talking to me.”
     “Did anyone else make it?”
Johnson hesitated, “...No. We’re on our own.”
Alex grimaced. Pain spiked up his entire body originating from his leg, making him groan. Johnson grabbed him under his arms. He vaguely remembered hearing the man whisper an apology into his ear before he pulled abruptly. The sound of tearing flesh filled the air and more blood spurted out against the twisted metal of the vehicle.
     Alex screamed -
Alex dropped the nail gun abruptly with a sharp inhale. Taking a full breath felt impossible. Heart racing; Alex swallowed thickly around the knot in his chest. He started to pace back and forth. The edges of his vision darkened.
“Alex?” Michael set down his measuring tape and walked towards him, “Alex.”
“I’m fine”, Alex inhaled sharply as he ran a hand through his hair.
“No, you’re not fine”, Michael grabbed his hands gently to stop him from pacing further. “You’re having a panic attack. Talk to me.”
 “I, uh…the gun.”
 “The nail gun?”
 “Yeah…”
“It’s loud”, Michael commented as he rubbed his thumbs against the top of Alex’s hands to ground him. “We can get you some earplugs to help with that. In the meantime, you’re fine. You’re safe. I’m right here with you.”

forgive me for my one-track mind but i do believe the main characters are a package deal, a pair, a duo, and the show hinges on them so i have mixed feelings about the last season. i liked that it didn't take centuries to make, to be more precise i don't care about the long wait i care about the erratic workflow that had been causing problems and seems to no longer be part of the process, and i like that quality was consistent and they're not shying away from serialization (that they set up and which was unavoidable anyway). what i don't like is that morty was almost relegated to a side character role i would guess that's partly because if they explored his perspective a whole bunch of crap would have to also be explored and shown in a different light, this is by no means the only way to interpret the show but maybe treating morty more like a serious character with a complex inner life would have to mean rick's vilification to an extent and that would be risky

so many interesting ideas on roswell that got cut off at the pass because the season was rushed or it was just beyond the scope of the soap. the aliens can have children with humans but it causes serious degenerative neurological issues. on their home planet the aliens communicate completely by telepathy and have no music. all the deep cover turncoat spy shit with nora. the emotional weight of being a parent separated from your child indefinitely in a strange hostile country. the aliens' central family structure being exactly three unrelated non-sexually involved adults but like, they have arranged marriage for that. cops might be bad

I still maintain that someone just needs to ask Tezca, "hey how the FUCK do we get our friends out the sand" considering she put Alex in there.
