i feel like an overlooked and very prevalent form of bullying against nd people is intentionally confusing us for their own entertainment. what i mean is that they will intentionally make comments and jokes with innuendos or sarcasm and such that they know we won’t understand and then not explaining the joke when asked because “it would ruin the joke”

the bullying i experienced the most that hurt the most was people making fun of me by making me feel stupid without actually calling me it. laughing at me for not understanding jokes and continuing to make those jokes around me more and using me as entertainment for themselves and their friends

and telling them to stop doesn’t work because “it’s not a big deal” and they’re not directly insulting you. but laughing at people for not understanding implications or jokes etc especially when the person is visibly uncomfortable or expresses their frustration or even lashes out is a form of ableist bullying

I work with older people who constantly make jokes about “being too ADD to have any distractions while working” and “oh I looked at my phone while working, I’m so ADD”. You know the kind.

Meanwhile, I, who am actively looking into diagnosis for ADHD because I’m 99% sure I have it, am listening to and singing along to FOB at 1.5x speed while writing paperwork because that is sometimes the only way to stimulate my brain enough to get it to focus on said paperwork.

GOD every take i see about rtc gets worse 😭 ricky’s character is ableist in certain areas, like him ditching his crutches, but he doesn’t concede because of his disability. he concedes because 1. no one in his life ever bothered to listen to him, so he doesn’t want to go back 2. he’s finally been able to say everything he’s ever wanted and feels free, something that would be instantly taken from him if he was revived 3. he’s finally found a support system and people who see him as a person, and “winning” would take all that away from him and thrust him back into an uncaring life, and 4. his “bible” LITERALLY only has one commandment and it’s “don’t be a dick”. if he chose to stay in the competition, he’d be making it “harder” on the other kids in his mind. NEVER in the show do they have him refer to himself as “an invalid” or have him portrayed in such a way. ricky doesn’t choose to “lose” the game because of his disability. he concedes because it would go against his morals otherwise. if you’re gonna point out the ableism at least do it right, because there are things that need to be addressed. also worth mentioning is op straight up admits to never watching it/wanting to bc of this which yeah, it shows, trust me.

i think like all of my favorite bob's burgers episodes are from the later seasons i dont even think i really liked any episodes before season 4 😭😭 idk why i guess the culture just changed and the jokes that got written into the show changed And im simply not a fan of 2013 humor so its hard for me to enjoy those early episodes. and characterization is often more important to me than engaging plot or quoteability so ig thats another reason later episodes are more my style (not all of them however!!!! and early seasons did have some bangers like topsy and mother daughter laser razor)
