Sometimes I remember that one time in high-school when we were doing a group assignment in physics class, and I was doing everything as per usual, the shirt I was wearing was a v-cut maybe a bit low idk (big boobs tend to give me cleavage with most clothes so idk and I don't think it matters I was paying more attention to what I was doing than the shirt I was wearing silly me), and this guy in my group randomly reaches over plunges his hand into my cleavage and violently yanks on the seam of my shirt and and I freak out because one minute I'm solving equations and the next a stranger's hand is touching my boobs so I tell him to fuck off. And he goes "I don't want to look at your boobs" and I say "if they bother you so much don't look at them" and he goes "if I sit here with my dick out you'll obviously look at it" and I assure him that I absolutely do not wish to look at his dick, so this guy unzips and pulls his dick out. As soon as I heard his zipper go down, I looked back down on my equations and kept my eyes on my fucking equations because seeing a bully's dick was absolutely not on my to-do list. After a 10 minute of uncomfortable silence and being close to a panic attack, I finally hear him zip himself back up. Then he punches the table, says "go fuck yourself you little slut" and leaves the classroom. That guy went on to have an A on this project based of the work I did while he was exposing his dick.

Reason number 166283839 I'm so fucking glad I'm not in high school anymore.

Also, shit like this is like the tip of the iceberg of what women and afab people deal with on the daily. And it starts so early. And it's so exhausting.

I have to buy tickets to get home for Christmas and all the options are bad. Hung up on my parents while planning. Really brings me back to the times I had birthdays in high school

Anxiety or something below the cut

I would never tell people when my birthday was. All the possibilities in my head were bad

What if they forgot my birthday

What if I had a party and nobody came

What if they did come, but they brought gifts

What if they came but only because it was my birthday and not because they liked me

In a way, both receiving attention and being forgotten are bad. So instead I would never tell people what date my birthday was. I'd just invite my friends to hang out, and if they couldn't make it then it wasn't a reflection on me. That felt pretty bad too. I still don't have a real solution a decade later

Wrapping back to the gift thing (drum drum cymbal). Christmas has this issue too where opt-in or opt-out both feel bad.

My proposal is to remove that whole week from the calendar. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk

This is a gut punch to read. I've seen "old folks" go through that journey of gaining understanding. Ideally it wouldn't need to be a whole journey but there's something loving in people willing to grow.

But not knowing just how at risk they might be ... from this kind of violence.

Nex was a really good student apparently. Had strait As. So a nerd. Another gut punch. They just remind me of more than one person I know and care deeply about.
