love preds sleep-eating. the body will follow instincts to consume prey even when asleep. it subconsciously knows what it needs.
pred wakes up later, realising that they must have gone to bed a little too hungry (but it's taken care of now, at least). Or maybe someone just got to close, and their stomach took the opportunity to get some extra food

It's heartbreaking that Robby blames himself for Johnny abandoning him. He was an unwanted child whose father abandoned him the day he was born and continued to do so afterward. Whose mother also got fed up of him/gave up on him.
He lives with this belief that no one loves him or wants him because he is a bad and unlovable child. That he is the problem. And no one makes an effort to dispel this belief of his. It only gets reaffirmed further with another parental figure, Daniel, also abandoning him.
And yet, his biggest most defining trait — to the point it is his weakness — is kindness. He wants to help people and be there for them because no one was there for him.

A Gaza-related action
Hey UK folks, there's a thingy here from Action Against Hunger whereby you can email your MP (through a text they've written, or your own) to push them towards getting Westminster to a) support a ceasefire, b) support humanitarian aid getting through to Gaza, especially with so many in danger of starvation (and already experiencing hunger and malnutrition).
Doesn't take long, and even if there's no direct good response it helps keeps the pressure up and the awareness that the UK populace at large wants a ceasefire.
Reblogs of this post (or making your own with the same link) wuld also be super.

@chounaifu " You look like shit, man. "
[ RP Ask Prompt - Accepted ]
Sleep is nothing short of a luxury - it provides the needed energy to get through the day with productivity, and yet it's one of the rather infuriating aspects of himself that does not come naturally. How funny that even his own ability to rest is practically decided by the toss of a nonexistent coin. That all to say he's only been running off a sparse amount of slept hours, and the sun is already beginning to set. With no ability to rest or focus properly on setting a path for himself today, he's stuck to simply leaning over the rails guarding the edges of a pier, looking out to halfmindedly focus on the waves. A lit cigarette comfortably sets itself between the gambler's fingers.
Grimsley's eyebags are prominent, his skin's pale hue is almost sickly, he hasn't eaten much today, as it's quite easy to forget such habits. Streaks of mascara have run down his eyes, but he barely notices. Due to the fact that he has finally taken a moment to stop and breathe, his mind had briefly decended into a spiral of old past regrets and connections; and quieted down into the calm background noise. The voice of a stranger snaps him out of a trance, his subtle smirk stays plastered on as his head calmly turns towards the direction of it.
"...Well that's certainly an odd greeting." His tone is rather playfully amused. "And what if I wished to look like this by choice~? I've heard it can be quite the fashion statement to apply a bit of messiness to your appearance." And messy it is, he's waltzing between the lines of looking a complete wreck, but he seems perfectly fine with such. Upon further inspection, a slight sense of unease subtly crawls up his spine at the stranger's appearance. He can't particularly put his finger on it, nor does he currently care to sort out his hardwired instinct to scan and read others. Hm. How interesting indeed.

when a character is so hungry that they’re nauseous, but they’re so nauseous that they can’t eat without being sick. UGH, I LOVE IT
i love this trope ohhh the exhaustion and brain fog and shakey hands and dizzy spells and mix of pain and nausea
especially if the character doesn't realize why they feel so terrible and run down and balk at the idea of it being due to hunger when their friend or partner suggests as such; the idea of food is absolutely sickening and they think there's no way it could make them feel better, when it's actually the only antidote

The first chapter to my Tavstarion (Astarion POV) longfic is up!
• Astarion x named Tav | 3,831 words
Thanks so much to JJJSchmidt on ao3 / @ollysoxisfree on tumblr for beta-reading this chapter- I really truly appreciate it! (And if anything still messed up that’s on me for forgetting to fix it!)
-
Snippet:
“There was no way that any of this could have been real, but the pain and hunger — they were certainly real and it was excruciating. These discomforts had let him know that he wasn’t, in fact, dead. Not the permanent kind of dead anyway.
Astarion had finally swatted the bugs from himself as he sat up, knowing that he must gain composure if he was to keep on surviving. If he was still the undead kind of alive then he sure as the hells wasn’t going to roll over and give up. Not now, not after the lifetime of shit he had survived.
This wasn’t even the worst thing he’d ever endured. Not even close.
No, he had known horrors beyond the imaginations of mortals. He had endured endless layers of torture and pain that most could never fathom. But this?
What was this?
He had looked up slowly at the golden rays shimmering through vivid green leaves of the trees, still quite wary of what those rays could do to him, had done to him for centuries… but there was only warmth.
Warmth like he had not known in so very long.”

In the beginning of 20th century there were very rough estimates of exactly what population of today's Kazakhstan was, and how many kazakh people were out there.
There are some estimates that said it was like 6.5 million kazakhs in 1914.
There are some communist party documents that suggest they thought it was 10 million.
One Moscow historian said that only in Northern regions there were 9 million around that time.
Russian Revolution happened through 1917-1923. At this time troops ravaged the countryside. There is an excerpt from a newspaper that only in 1918 30% of population in Turkistan region died from hunger.
In 1921-1922 a drought hit, and around 1.7 million people died.
In 1926-1927 Goloshekin decided to organise "Small October" that was set to suppress the national intelligentsia(most educated and politically adept people) as well as collectivize the agriculture. The collectivization somehow went so poorly that from 40 million heads of livestock registered in 1929(and taken from kazakh people) only 4 million remained 1933.
Because all of this 3.3 million people living in countryside died. Lost to hunger and sickness.
The hunger of 1930-1933 was called Asharshylyq meaning simply hunger(of a nation). There are debates on whether it is a second one(the first being in 1921-1922) or even third.
Through 1928-1932 USSR continued to sell grain abroad "to get money for industrialisation".
There were also repressions, where USSR was fighting against uprisings and people against the regime.
There was also 600 thousand Kazakhstani people that went to WW2 and died. 400 thousand of them were kazakh men and women. 300 thousand civilians in Kazakhstan died behind the front lines.
There were around 3.6 million kazakhs in 1959.
Today Kazakhstan nears 20 million people in population. In 2021 there were a bit more than 13 million kazakhs that lived in Kazakhstan.
There is really no telling how much was lost. Not just in people but also in culture. Kazakhs were nomadic and had most of their culture shared orally in crafts that were very perishable.
I heard a story once, from a grown woman of age. She was a girl and someone in her family somehow procured a recording of dombra on vinyl, with some küis. When the elders(grandfathers and grandmothers maybe someone else too) heard the recording they wept.

As it turns out, you can leave the circus. So jax does. He winds up in his old house. Seven years have passed and everyone looks at him like he's a ghost. His house has been abandoned and he has no idea how to be an adult. But all this is fine.
Unfortunately leaving the circus comes with some nasty side effects.
New fic for y'all! It's rabbit angst! Eat up!

there's a pred imprisoned, in solitary confinement permanently because of the danger they've caused to society.
after a long career of evading authorities, and eating very well, the pred had made a mistake, and ended up caught.
unfortunately, they are valuable due to the information that they have (either through their knowledge in their field, or because of a criminal situation they were involved with).
the pred is however, still social and charismatic, even after they've been found out. They will always make conversation with the guards, who were hostile at first, but after a year or two, they get used to him, and start to enjoy talking to the pred. However, both parties know what would happen if the glass between them were ever to disappear. If the pred jokes about them letting him out, the guards will assure them that there's no way in hell that will ever happen.
they are interviewed by a prey who isn't smart like the guards are, in that they have come to fully believe that the pred isn't really that bad of a person. It's in their nature to eat prey anyway, can you really blame them? and they're so nice! And smart - they aren't a criminal.
The interviewer has never seen what the pred has done. They have never seen the pred eat, they've never seen the pred with a full stomach - in fact, for the months that the prey has known him, the pred has not been able to consume prey. He probably hasn't for as long as he's been in prison. poor thing.
because despite being friendly and gentle, the pred doesn't look good, they look starved. They hold their body stiffly and on some rare occasions their happy veneer drops and there is a desperate look in their eye.
the guards worry about the prey who has so obviously fallen for the pred's cover. Despite knowing the fact about who they are, the prey doesn't absorb the fact that the pred is a sadist and a monster. And if they weren't locked in a cage, the pred would definitely have the prey in their stomach by now.

Yes, you're seeing what you think you're seeing. Demands that membership of an exclusive club be granted to seven 'leading women' are given precedence over the ongoing murder, abuse and starvation of thousands upon thousands of Palestinian women and girls.
Western liberal feminism in a nutshell.

tw: forced dieting, hunger, sneaking food, restricting a child's food
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
it's summer 1994, dudley is on a strict diet on his doctor's orders, and harry is forced on the same diet on petunia's orders. everyone is fairly miserable because none of them are eating enough.
harry is honestly used to it, because the dursleys never really gave him enough food. harry is also fairly sure that vernon and petunia are eating normal food after harry and dudley are sent to bed. but dudley has never been hungry before, not like this. harry can't help but feel a little sympathy for him, because harry understands better than anyone what it's like to be hungry.
of course, harry has never settled for hunger, intense self preservation instincts baked into him from the time he was one. he sneaks out of his room one night after he's sure vernon and petunia are asleep, choosing the right pattern on the steps so they won't make a noise.
he's not in the pantry long before the sound of someone creaking down the stairs meets his ears. he panics, leaves the pantry, but realizes that he has no good hiding places without crossing the view of the stairs. the best hope he has is hiding in the dark pantry and praying that whoever it is will only open the fridge.
he listens at the door, hearing the unmistakable sounds of someone trying to be quiet and failing spectacularly. probably vernon then, because petunia is frighteningly good at moving quietly when she wants to. harry hears the fridge open, hears some jars rustle around, and he has a glimmer of hope that maybe he'll get away with this.
but then he hears footsteps come towards the pantry door, and he braces himself for whatever punishment vernon will dole out for this. probably locked in his room for the rest of the summer. he backs away from the door as it opens, and someone flicks the light on.
"dudley?" he says, just as dudley says, "harry?"
it's quiet for a moment as they both process what to do, both of them caught sneaking food. harry can't help but feel nausea at the thought of dudley running up to tell his parents that he caught harry out of his room. but dudley looks as nauseous as harry feels, probably some combination of extreme hunger and fear of harry's magic. that strange sympathy wells up in harry again, for the hunger, mostly.
"i'll tell," dudley says, attempting confidence, but there's a shake to his voice. "you'll get locked in your room again."
it strikes harry, oddly, as absurdly brave. dudley's only experience with magic is a twisted combination of his parents' lies and traumatic bodily injury in the form of a pig tail and a ballooning aunt. he would have no defense if harry used magic against him, but he's threatening harry anyways.
dudley has been horrible to harry for the entirety of their relationship, has never done anything but hurt him, and yet harry also knows that dudley has vernon and petunia for parents, and that, even as he looms in the pantry doorway with clenched fists, he is a hungry kid. and so harry extends an olive branch that dudley probably doesn't deserve.
"don't take too much of one thing," he says.
"what?"
"when you take food, don't take too much of one thing, or they'll notice."
"...okay?"
"and if it's something like a pack of biscuits, shake them forward a little so it looks fuller than it is."
dudley is staring at harry with the most peculiar expression on his face.
"why are you helping me?"
harry shrugs. he doesn't have a coherent answer to that at 2am. he tells himself it's just because if his aunt and uncle realize someone (other than them) has been sneaking food, he'll be the one in trouble regardless of guilt. but harry knows that's not really his reason.
harry doesn't say any of this out loud. he takes a step forward to leave the pantry, and dudley skitters back into the kitchen, eyes wide. harry puts his hands up in surrender, slowly steps out of the pantry. they're both standing in the kitchen now, still staring at each other, unsure how to end this odd encounter.
"well," harry finally says. "night dudley."
"yea, night harry."
harry follows his usual path up the steps, thinking about how that's probably the first time that he and dudley ever wished each other good night.
harry lies in bed, expecting vernon or petunia to come knocking on his door at any minute, but they never come.

for the WIP ask game- those titles are all great and have me intrigued, but if I have to pick just one: All Things Devour
Thanks so much for the ask! I got the title of this one from a song that I do love, and I don’t have a ton written on it but here’s a bit of it!
“It had seemed to Astarion that all he had ever known was hunger. Before his death he had only been peckish though, rising in the ranks of Baldurian society he had gathered a taste for riches and glamour.
He had sampled the gilded crumbs of debauchery amongst the elite and he had found them quite to his liking. He had enrobed himself in silks and diamonds, had sipped wine from gold and crystal goblets, both of which cost more than most peasants would ever see in a lifetime. He had indulged in carnal pursuits used to grandstand and garnish attention and ultimately he had become a glutton for power, power which led to his famine.
Astarion had never known true hunger like the ever unsatiated, unnatural emptiness that had taken over every shred of his being after his untimely death. He was voracious, animalistic, violently craving the blood of sentient creatures every single second of his pathetic undead existence.
But he had been denied that abundance every single second.
He had been starved to the brink of madness for nearly two hundred years.
But he hadn’t been broken.”
