The way that I see it, if it's okay to hc a straight character a different sexuality then it should be okay to do that with other characters with different sexuality as well. Unless you make that character straight then that is erasure.

James Somerton is a misogynist piece of shit, but the way he speaks about lesbians is an infuriating betrayal of the queer community.

Legally, lesbians were and are treated on the same level of bad as gay men. Gay panic doesn't and has never excluded them, same as convertion therapy, same as anti-sodomy laws, same as police brutality, and many more I could mention.

And socially? Women as a whole are already persecuted, so add homophobia to the mix, and I doubt that'd lead to less discrimination than what gay men suffer from. And that's not even getting into how shittily trans lesbians are treated

But frankly, we all know why he said that. The section where he misgenders Nate Stevenson and Rebecca Sugar and throws them under the bus really says it all: it's because, in his fucked up mind twisted by misogyny, there was more "lesbian representation" in media.

I find the whole "gay teachers telling their students they're gay is grooming🤬😡" crowd funny because I remember in second grade when my teacher explained she would no longer want to be called "ms." because she'll be a "mrs." after she married her long-term boyfriend. Or when I saw teacher after teacher getting pregnant and after they came back from maternity leave, they showed pictures of their new family and they expressed their happiness and how much they missed us. Our class - made of eight-year-olds - understood that this is just what happens in teachers' lives. We weren't scarred for life, and we especially weren't groomed to be one way or the other (if that were the case, this blog wouldn't exist because I'd be cishet). That isn't how this works, y'all.

Heterosexuality is seen as inherently non-sexual no matter what, so it is acceptable in all circumstances. Ex bi lesbian here. Posts like yours and and a few others snapped me out of the comphet I had been in. I only realized recently how toxic the radinclus community was, and how being in that group made my comphet worse. I always had to accept whatever new queer theory someone made, even if it was transmisogynist or racist, because if I didn’t I wasn’t inclusive and I was ‘being a bad queer and being toxic’ (Warning here because it’s very gross) At one point we had someone in our circle basically come out as a pro-c pedophilic necrophile and everyone congratulated him at being so brave for sharing. I helped make a pride flag for him and I still regret it. He would always insist that my sexuality was fluid and how valid and brave I was for being a bi lesbian. He also did a bunch of other stuff I am not comfortable sharing at this time. Anyway I guess I wanted to say thank you and other lesbians for waking me up from that hell. I love and support my new community of fellow lesbians ❤️
