mentions of past ed & working out
(because i need to let it out somewhere)
for the first time in five years i was in a public pool - i signed up for classes over my university's sports programme because - as i told you all before - the opening hours for the public at my public's pool are hell.
So there I was today, anxious because I didn't know the instructor, the people nor the location. And on top of that, I know I am severely out of shape since I had to cut out any forms of exercise due to my eating disorder a few years ago.
Now, being in the water was so so great. I swam competitively for several years and just the smell of chlorine felt like home. I knew as soon as I started swimming the first lane that this was the absolute right decision. I know it's healthy to move your body (in a way that works for you) - not to lose weight, but simply to keep it fit and healthy (again, talking as an able-bodied person).
I was able to push through the whole training schedule today and felt good about my body (and mind) for letting me do that.
And then my mental health crashed. Because I realised how unfit I truly am. Even though we swam a lot, I was out of breath after the first eight lanes and my arms and legs were wobbly as soon as I got out of the water. I can't move without being in pain, everything hurts. Which was to be expected since I really haven't exercised the past few years except for a YouTube yoga or pilates workout here and there.
And even though everyone in my closer circle tells me that they're proud of me or happy for me, I still feel like a failure. I know going there today (and also the following weeks) was (and will be) the first step in getting healthier again, but right now it simply feels like I will be this out of shape forever. btw, when I speak of "out of shape" I don't mean the way my body looks, I am talking about my stamina/endurance.
So if you ever felt like this, too, let me tell you that you're not alone.
Hopefully it will get easier again.

Fun ask: #30
(Some Dave for ya.)
Thank you for this!! That beautiful man 😍😍 I was just writing some of Strangers, so this is just the face I was envisioning.
what’s one thing that never fails to make you happy/happier?
Gosh, I feel like there’s so many things. I guess at the moment it would be making sure I’m being active (walking & working out) consistently. It has been such a mood booster for me and helps with my anxiety so much. Slowly making my way back to feeling stronger and like my normal since having my little dude.
Fun Asks

Please tell me how you got so fit. I have been trying to lose weight for months and it's not working. What do you do how do you eat?
My "fitness journey", for lack of a better description, included 2 important elements: exercise and calorie deficit.
I found working out programs that were exactly what i needed (I followed Sydney Cummings on youtube, she posts TONS of free workout videos, and she's super motivating and just a cool person) - started with cardio at first, to burn fat, then slowly incorporated a bit of strength training to get some toning and definition - nowadays, I just do what I feel like doing, because i'm looking to just maintain my weight. It was very important to me to find something I enjoyed doing, because previously, exercising felt like a chore a lot of times.
It's very important to stay consistent - if you set out to exercise a certain day, do it, don't find excuses and don't put it off, because the moment you start doing that, it'll be very hard to get back into it. Sydney helps a lot with this, because she has exercise programs that are month long ones - you can find several playlists and follow them with every daily workout. For me, right now, I don't follow her monthly programs anymore, because i've developed enough of a habit to work out 6/7 days a week - it's become a habit and one that i'm looking forward to, especially because it helps a lot with mental health as well.
Another important element is staying in a calorie deficit, which means burning more than you're consuming. There are online tools that can help you find the amount of calories that you should be consuming in order to lose weight, depending on your age, current weight, height and the amount of time you're active daily. I remember that in the beginning I used an app called Fitness Pal to try and stay on top of my calorie intake. I should mention that as a human being, you should not be consuming less than 1000 - 1200 calories a day. This is the minimum amount your body needs in order to survive and for your internal organs to function. Something else that I feel like I should mention - counting calories is not ideal, because it's very easy to slip into dangerous behaviour. So be very wary of this.
I didn't really pay too much attention to what I was eating, but I did give up soda, tried to eat as little processed sugar as possible, tried to incorporate healthy nutrients in my daily meals - proteins, fiber, vitamins etc, and that, combined with exercise, did the trick. Also, drink loads of water, hydration is super important.
Very important to say - it took me a year to drop to my ideal weight. So it didn't happen overnight, it wasn't a miraculous weight loss - overall, I dropped about 1 kg/month, which is slow and steady.
Be patient, okay? You won't see results over night, it takes at least 2 months for any progress to show up, so you need to trust the process, if you stick to it, and have confidence that eventually it'll show. And always remember that doing things in a healthy way is more important than doing it fast, but detrimental to your health.
I'm here if you have any more questions :) Sending hugs and love your way <3

Missed me? I doubt,
I am in the process of getting a yoga mat so I can do chloe ting workouts. I do seriously want a pink one but stores only have stupid blue or boring wood brown... I'll try visiting a sports store tonight when I am going to the center for my japanese class. Scared they'll be expensive af there... I might ask if my boyfriend can pay half of it.
My japanese teacher is super skinny and tall af so I am kinda jealous of her...
