I'm so sorry if you got this ask already! But what would Bobby have seen in the mirror during the carnival in Book 2? (Presumably they would not feel guilty lol.) Same question for Rebecca and Douglas (and would they feel guilty)?

It's a bit difficult with Bobby. I think they so strongly believe that what they are doing is best (always making sure they come first because no one else will be on their side) that they wouldn't feel guilty.

But deep down...I do wonder sometimes if there is a little knot of guilt that sometimes gets to them.

Before they quickly shove it back down and bury it beneath their large ego, which is genuine and not put on, lol! :D

Bobby would likely see the time they used the MC's friendship/connection in order to get ahead. If the MC was a friend or lover, then it is actually the only genuine connection Bobby has ever had, and the only one where they do feel even a tiny wave of regret...

I won't go into Rebecca because potential spoilers.

Doug, I'm not sure Doug would see much. He's not had enough life experience yet! Which would have confused the hell out of Falk, hehe!

When this came out I SWEAR i shrieked out!! Just how fitting was Felix to Adventure and Nate to Knowledge but then again we got my best friend here as the punchline and again it's soooo him. Even my mc and Adam they are so in-character!!

I actually pictured this out happening in the station (since I've also selected coffee as my mc's favorite drink, so i have a coffee maker in the station) and we know how much A loves to break things (literally and figuratively). Though in the real sense, UB wouldve just kicked Bobby out and not have a chance for this kind of conversation but it's just as what-if scenario and it's cute and funny mwehehe plus my mc admitting its her fault just to get it over with is so on point help 😭

I just want to say that I adore the idea of Book Two M starting to subconsciously think The Detective is wonderful which just translates to "Yes of course EVERYONE has a crush on The Detective, obviously this is the only explanation that I tolerate being around them."

Hehehe! :D M does have unique thought processes—I'm looking forward to when those thoughts really align with how they feel!

You know, I was thinking about how Mishka said that UB hasn't really had a chance to grow because of the Agency never giving them a chance to put down roots and Book 2 really brings that home in a lot of ways. It has to be insane for the Detective to go through the traumatic shit of Book 1 and have nothing to show for it in a lot of ways. They can't talk to people about it, of course, but it's also the lack of physical evidence. To keep up the masquerade, the Agency completely fixes their apartment, their office, and their body, leaving them with no marks of what happened. That's got to be trippy -- everything has change for you, but at the same time, there is very little actual evidence of this. The world keeps on going as it always has. And UB had to live like this -- particularly Ava and Nat, who've had centuries of this -- for so long. When I first read Book 1, where Nat talks about how the Detective has "woken the team up," I was like "yeah, whatever, Nat, you dramatic vampire," but I feel like I get it now. UB had to stay the same, stay static, because everything changed around them, and they were the only stable thing each of them had. That makes a group turn insular, and it can cause people to become "extreme" versions of themselves. You become so comfortable in a role and in a dynamic that you don't know how to stop.

Not trying to be profound or anything. It's just... odd. I was newly 17 when I first played the demo for Wayhaven and now I'm in grad school. I feel like I appreciate some of the things Mishka wrote more now that I've got another 6 years of life experience.
