WE REALLY GOT EVERYTHING WE WANTED I'M CRYING

But also like, that was just an objectively good ending. I will admit it's rushed but that was a lot to cover in 6 episodes and they did their best to focus on what matters which was the psychology of it and the romance (the CRM was Not The Point lmao). It was always about dealing with their respective traumas (while still showing that it's not magically gone just because they're home! I love that the reunion with their kids still had tinges of uncertainty from Rick! Amazing!) and finding peace together again.

So yea I'm super sad we don't get to see more and this really felt like The End for the Grimes family, but maybe recurring roles in the other spinoffs? References to how they're doing? Another mini-series just about Rick readjusting to life On The Outside and Michonne catching up with her kids after being away for over a year (unlikely but I can dream)?

I'm so happy but I'm just gonna miss them so much.

I spent ten years thinking about Morgan's wife coming back to the house and trying to open the door in the pilot and how the writers almost immediately decided they didn't want the walkers to be that capable and never showed another zombie with that kind of dexterity again. And the whole time, it felt like an error or a retcon - something they'd decided not to continue with and hoped the audience didn't notice.

tbh, it felt like a missed opportunity and a "gotcha" for writing continuity. But the change from dexterous walkers to 100% shambling happened so early on that it was easy to forget the inconsistency ever happened. At this point, bringing back walkers who can climb and use basic tools just raises a million questions the show has no interest in answering about how the zombies in this universe function.

So what do the writers do?

Sunday's episode showed variant walkers who could climb walls, open doors, and pick up rocks attack Aaron and Jerry. If you thought "TWD" was jumping the shark, they're supposed to be a throwback to the show's first season.

During a press conference at San Diego Comic-Con, which Insider attended, showrunner Angela Kang confirmed they're a nod to some smarter walkers on season one that were never addressed again.

"In some ways it's a throwback to some walkers we saw back in the very, very first season of 'The Walking Dead,' but not everybody ever encountered those walkers," Kang told press. "It's almost like it was a variant that just was regional."

Calling it a throwback doesn't make it any less of a jump-the-shark moment.

i really like how dwight and sherry’s story in ftwd actually explores the trauma that negan caused and the effect he had on them. at every turn their choices are motivated by “we can’t turn out like him” and “what can we do to be keep others safe from going through what we went through?”. 

virginia was negan 2.0 for them and the way they reacted to her really showed just how broken they are, like how sherry instantly wanted to kill her no matter the cost while dwight wanted to avoid more bloodshed from the get go. they’re being put through the same thing again and they’re lashing out because they already know the pain that will be caused further down the line.

like idk man i just really like them. they’re really complex characters and i’m glad they moved to fear after leaving the main show because i love having more of them
