Bridgerton Twitter is the absolute worst.

1. Some of y’all don’t know the difference between romantic tension and chemistry. There is absolutely nothing wrong with polin’s chemistry. The entire point is that it’s been one sided so far.

2. The trope elitist people need to grow up. Every trope can be top tier if it’s written correctly. The way people act about friends to lovers is weird. I don’t even like that trope but condemning an entire season because of a stupid trope is ridiculous.

2. I’m sorry but Colin doesn’t owe it to Pen to be in love with her. That’s not how relationships work. Yea what he said at the end was awful but it’s so weird that y’all can’t stop and look at this from his pov for 5 seconds. Just because he doesn’t return her feelings doesn’t mean he doesn’t genuinely care about her.

3.The underlying issues with Nicola & Luke not being up to certain beauty standards is just gross. I know people want to be attracted to the male lead but denying Luke is charming & handsome just makes you look dumb. As a plus sized person I’ve always loved seeing Pen and the idea of her leading this show is exciting but it’s clear that some people don’t get that this type of representation is important too.

I do not understand the need to pit the characters & relationships against each other. The way that season 3 is being criticized before we even got any kind of preview is wild. Polin isn’t your cup of tea? Great. But why ruin it for people who are actually looking forward to it?

ZEvent 2022 which, let me remind you, is the biggest Twitch charity event worldwide, was told by Twitter that it would flop — because some streamers from last year couldn't make it, because there were some controversies (like every year) on the associations selected, because "they're streamers that constantly pollute by streaming, how dare they make an event about ecology?" and whatever

I'm currently watching them destroy last year record, a world record Zevent set last year, and the year before that, and the one before that too,...

10M€ in more or less 50 hours, from an event that is only French, with French communities

If there's a lesson about the whole thing, it's to never listen to Twitter because whatever they have going on is fucking stupid

Something that I think every fanfiction writer needs to hear:

YOU are doing this for YOU. You don’t owe anyone anything. Your fic IS good enough.

There’s a really toxic culture on twitter right now that’s making fanfiction into something hierarchical. The writers with all the kudos that everyone is talking about are deemed “good writers” while the rest of us get ignored. You feel pressured to upload content EVERY week otherwise you’re “not good enough.” You find yourself constantly looking at numbers, and if your fic that you’ve poured your heart and soul into isn’t reaching the same popularity quota that some of the popular writers are, then you feel as if you’ve failed as a writer.

But since leaving twitter (a decision I do not regret in the slightest), I’ve started enjoying writing for its own sake again. I’m a full time grad student, I don’t have the time or energy to be uploading a new chapter every week. And the quality of my work is markedly better, AND more fun to write, when I’m not pressuring myself to live up to the standards that the twitter fandom is holding it to. I work at my own pace, and I write because I enjoy it. Obviously it hurts when I see others getting attention for their work while mine gets ignored, even though I know the quality is NO less. But I started writing fanfiction because it made ME happy. And now that I’m no longer trapped in the cliquey, toxic, extremely capitalistic fanfiction culture on twitter, I’m FINALLY starting to get there again.

TLDR; Keep writing, don’t let the clique mentality convince you that you aren’t good enough, and work at your own pace. You don’t owe anyone anything. Fanfiction is supposed to be fun, and if it feels anything other than that, then it means something is wrong and it’s time to step back and reevaluate.
