i can’t fit this into sleep now on account of i already gave him back a lute, but imagine jaskier at kaer morhen post-s2, feeling desperately out of place and unmoored, wandering the keep because he thinks no one will notice him gone anyway, finding an old pianoforte in an abandoned room somewhere (how has it survived? does he know how to play the piano? did they even have pianos in medieval poland? irrelevant don’t worry abt it).

imagine geralt going looking for him bc he’s been busy with his family but jaskier’s barely been around at all and he misses him, they never really got to talk, and jaskier’s the only person he can vent to about everything that’s happening without feeling judged.

imagine him stumbling across jaskier far away from all the life left in the keep, playing two minutes to an empty room geralt didn’t even know they had. imagine his voice breaking on “if i’m good will you come back?” imagine geralt realizing how alone jaskier feels while he listens to him sing “these hands are growing old, they’re running out of things to hold on to.” imagine him hearing jaskier sing “just give me two damn minutes and i’ll be fine,” and remembering all the times jaskier told him he was ok, so geralt left him alone to deal with ciri or yen or lambert or whoever, and realizing jaskier had never been fine, and geralt wasn’t fucking listening.

I can't count how many times I've listened to Two Minutes, and every damn time, I'm still blown away by how well Joey Batey conveys so much sheer ache in his voice, so much exhaustion and resignation, so much weary acceptance of the fact that your life can shatter apart around you but you still have responsibilities, you still have to stand up and get going and act like you know what the next steps are. Madeleine floating her voice into the melody, all ethereal and lovely, only emphasizes how weighed down by bitterness and pain he sounds, how very very human and wounded and cracked. There is so much character work going on in this performance, and I can't ever imagine this song being done justice by a different singer who isn't the caliber of actor that Joey is.

The more I think about it, I think Little Miss Why So is the song that makes most of Love Run hang together. So many songs make so much sense when viewed through the lens of that fractured relationship. Two new connections I found today with Two Minutes:

(This seems self explanatory 😛)
