OK, that other thing wasn't enough for right now, I also want to talk about why the lilo sketch is SO GOOD OH MY GOD I'M CRYING JUST THINKING ABOUT IT

Putting it below a spoiler cutoff just in case though I don't think it needs it-

OK so- why is it that a sketch where I didn't know what a lilo was until about halfway through (I googled it) still made me cry basically immediately?

I think fundamentally the thing about it that made me just freeze up was the raw viscerality of air and breath as used in this context. Dealing with the passing of a loved one is SUCH a common and universal experience, and any sketch could have done that with "how COULD you shatter her favorite coffee mug" or something, but the idea of something that's not just as seemingly insignificant as a lilo but as full of something so resonant of the life force of a person who has died is just... well it's shattering.

And it's not just that it was full of her own breath/life force that Jerry used to have basically bottled for preservation and yet is now gone- but, assuming that Deborah, Myra, Benjamin and Russ were all going through the stuff together, when Russ let the air out... he breathed it in. If they were all there with him at the time (unclear), then so did the rest of them. And there is just something really heartwrenching about that as well- several years after they lost Hilla, they had one more chance to not just come in contact with a part of her but to literally breathe her in, and they didn't even know it at the time.

It tears me up to think about, I don't know. Probably a bit too morbid but ah well.

Number of times my husband called me weird this morning: 6. And i was apparently my weirdest when i asked if that was the lake we were driving along. It was pitch dark still (~6:30am) and he confirmed, saying something about it being "black as death" and i started laughing so fucking hard. He gave me a *LOOK* and said, "You're so weird!"

In between my snorts, i reminded him that he married me. For weirder or worse!

i think kirsi is going to live. i think lucia has got some healing capabilties, and kirsi might not be wholly dead/Not Quite Dead, and since lucia is powerful and her magic is unwieldy, she might save kirsi's life, even if it's not as intentional? like she didn't know that would happen, and it's great that kirsi survives, but??? she didn't know her own magic could do that???

which i think is a great parallel to the first time lucia was emotionally overcome, and was clearly going to be her adoptive father's executioner tbh!

Vintage Drarry Fics

Thought I'd put together a list of some of the old Drarry 'classics' of my teenage years, for anyone interested. All posted between 2001-2006, compiled using my (bad) memory, a lot of googling, fanlore.org and numerous different LJ rec accounts (including the incredible @capiturecs). I checked as best I could, but if anyone knows of any fics that their author doesn't want to be shared, please let me know and I will of course remove.

Please also note that these fics are of their era, when attitudes may have been different, and they may not all be grammatically perfect. I haven't reread all, as my own tastes have changed, but most importantly do note that they may not be tagged - don't blame me when, for example, Harry dies tragically on a rooftop at sunrise...

The fandom is SO MEAN to Turgon. He isn’t boring! Why would you call him boring? Why would you reduce him into a flat antagonist who opposes the russingon Twoo Wuv story? (Look I love Russingon but as a ship it’s perpetuated so many weird clichés and character assassinations which I do not enjoy.) I say I “unwillingly” came around to him because when I first got into the fandom I did accept these portrayals at face value because they’re SO widespread, but happily I am wiser now. Turgon’s great! He’s proud and tragic and tries to do the right thing and he loses so much it isn’t fair 😭😭

I love her so much aaaahhhh. She’s clever and sensible and, unlike her father, understands the importance of letting go. Unfortunately anyone who’s ever dealt with unwanted attentions projects onto her a little I think :( anyway she’s wonderful and I love that she gets to sail away with her himbo husband and get a happy ending (but also the ambiguity of it! Did she ever reach Valinor?).
