TWP Chapter 22
Ahsoka was already scouting ahead, so it was her who set the bombs that would burst the lab hatches open. She would enter the lab from her position on the ground and both her team and mine would make an airborne entrance. When we had boarded the gunships on Theed, Rex had joked about seeing me more often than he did his brothers on the 212th or the 104th, which was pretty accurate. "We might have to add some blue to that armour of yours if you keep this up, Commander." Later I found out he hadn't been entirely joking.
The pilot opened the blast doors and a few seconds later, the ground in the swamp beneath us shook with the force of three explosions. It was dark and the woods around the area lit up for a few seconds before the smoke covered it all up.
I jumped off the LAAT/i and into the open hatch, landing on a seamless squat with the aid of the force so as not to injure my legs. I turned my lightsaber on and started to intercept enemy fire as the rest of Ahsoka and I's squad rappelled down the opening. We were in the middle of a corridor, so both of us padawans took position on opposite sides in order to shield the troops. The lab was more heavily defended than we had originally expected. It was counterintuitive to have so many battle droids in a Republic aligned planet such as Naboo. Especially in Naboo.
The system was one of the most notorious defenders of peace within the Galactic Senate, to target such a political presence in the eyes of the galaxy was bold. But there was no time to consider the political implications of the lab's placement. The CIS had gone too far when they decided to resort to biological warfare. They were trying to leave the Republic, fine, but there was no reason to kill hundreds of thousands of life forms because of it. We were not going to let that happen.
The plan was going smoothly. Ahsoka, our troops and I had managed to gather the attention of almost all the lab's security personnel. We were taking the brunt of the defense, true, but that meant Master Skywalker and Master Kenobi could carry out their own missions without having to worry about battle droids.
The thing about close quarters fighting is that it's rather restrictive by nature. There is no place for maneuvering or taking cover, or getting a little creative with one's attack. And in such circumstances, numbers often have the upper hand, especially if those numbers don't have the disadvantage of being irreplaceable life forms. Normal battle droids in big numbers were annoying enough, SBD's were a nuisance no one wanted to deal with, but Droidekas? yeah those were a problem. Their deflector shields were bad enough in open combat where you could sneak past them if you were stealthy enough, but in close quarters? Bad news.
The rolling balls of death rounded the corner like a clunking stampede of metal boulders. I cursed underneath my breath and resisted the urge to roll my eyes. Of course they had Droidekas in this Force Forsaken lab.
"'Soka! I won't fit," I yelled, "You jump, I'll throw you!"
"On three!" she answered, "Rex, take care of these for a second."
"Boil, lay cover fire!" I instructed. "THREE"
"Two!" returned Ahsoka as she turned her saber off and got ready to jump.
"Go!"
Ahsoka ran the couple of meters that separated her from me and jumped. I force pushed her in order to get above and across the destroyers. The gap between the droids and the ceilings had been too narrow for me to do it, so we had to make do. Ahsoka was agile, flexible, small and light, she was the perfect person for the job, and she was skilled. With all the training and natural ability of a Torguta she landed on one of the droids and turned her saber on, right on top of its head. The first one went down. I ran forward to draw the second droid's attention while Ahsoka repeated the process. Behind us, our squad finished turning the other battle droids into scrap metal. We were done, for now.
"Report." I said as I turned to my team and reached out into the Force to sense for any signs of pain or distress on any of the men. There were.
"Ginger is dead, T.H. was shot but is still able bodied," Said Waxer "Captain Rex is also down two men, Commander"
I sighed defeatedly before turning to my wounded trooper. He would never let anyone know, but he was in quite a lot of pain. His shoulder had been hit by a blast that ricocheted on one of the corridor surfaces. I wanted him to retreat, to get him out of there and to safety before his injuries started to work against him. But I couldn't. I needed him, we all did. We had lost more men than we could afford and we still needed to reinforce the other two squads. I also knew he would have never let me do it. He was a clone trooper of the 212th and he would rather die fighting than let his team die in his stead. He was no coward. None of them were.
"How are you doing T.H.?"
"It's just a scratch, Commander. I'll be good to go once I bandage it."
"Good man, take a breather and rest a few minutes, we'll be moving out soon." I said before crouching down in front of him. "I'm sorry I can't get you clear. I need you, I need all of you."
T.H. looked up at me, I couldn't see his face behind the helmet, but I could feel his surprise, the way his chest felt lighter, the way he felt like he could take on the entire CIS army by himself. His CO needed him. His CO cared for his safety but she needed him. He would not abandon his CO.
"Don't worry about me, Commander," he said with conviction. "We'll take this damn lab and complete the mission. You'll see."
I patted his healthy shoulder twice and smiled at him before standing up.
Ahsoka was talking to Rex behind us, the Force moved slowly around them and in Rex's case it felt almost viscous, stagnant, like he wasn't affected by the pain and turmoil. I knew better, and so did Ahsoka. We ordered the fallen troopers extracted by the team above ground, they would be given a proper funeral after this was all over.
"Rex, 'Soka, whatchu guys have for me?" I said approaching them.
"General Kenobi has made it safely to the storage room and is helping disable the bombs. They are almost done," said Rex as he pulled up the lab's geoscan that we had been provided with. "General Skywalker has found the hostages and is engaged with Doctor Vindi as we speak."
"We should reinforce him." Said Ahsoka.
I touched my hand to my chin as I thought about our dilemma. Help Skywalker with the hostage situation or help Master Kenobi defuse the bombs?
"Hostage situations are tricky," I started. "stepping in during negotiations could be very detrimental to the whole effort. If Vindi has something to threaten Skywalker with, odds are, he can do the same to us. I think we should let Skywalker deal with it."
"Our men are trained to defuse bombs, but none are as good as the ones with General Kenobi. I think we would be getting in the way if we decided to go help them." Commented Ahsoka.
"Commander, if I may…" said Rex and waited until I nodded to proceed. " We should secure all known exits to the lab so that no one can get out. That way we prevent the virus from leaving the facility and scrap any droids that want to escape."
I smirked at him before raising an eyebrow at Ahsoka. Rex was a good soldier, yes, but he was also more than just that, and he continued to show me so every time I saw him.
"Rex, old boy, you are the best." smiled my friend, "We would need to split up in order to cover all exits, and there aren't many of us left."
"Then we make the best of it. Rex, you take Waxer and Boil, stay here and man the southern hatch; Ahsoka, take Nax to the eastern one; T.H will come with me to the northern hatch. Nothing gets out." I said while pointing at the holo map Rex had been holding. "May the Force be with us, Pals."
Ahsoka nodded to me before setting off and Rex nodded, turning to the men he would be working with and starting to give out orders. I returned to where T.H. was seated and offered him my arm. He took it and stood up with little effort. He had taken a bacta shot, he said.
"I would have left you here with Rex but this is where I expect the most fire," I explained. "So you'll be coming with me, trooper. I'll have your back."
He tried moving his injured shoulder a little as if to stretch the muscle. He was in pain, there was no denying that, it didn't matter how good he was at hiding it.
"You don't have to coddle me, Commander." He returned. "Injured or not, I can keep up and have your back just as well. You can count on me."
I smiled honestly at his visor.
"I know I can."
T.H. was on the lookout as I tampered with the hatch controls. If anyone or anything managed to get past us, I wanted to make sure they didn't escape. Thus, hardwiring the hatch controls to remain closed and booby trap the thing so that if anyone tried to override it, they'd get a nasty surprise, and their faces blown to pieces. The lab's corridors weren't exactly soundproof, so every once in a while, the distant echoes of a blaster fight made its way to us. The situation was not ideal. If battlegrounds were stressful because of the chaos, then this was stressful due to the uncertainty of it all. We had no idea how close to letting a virus lose we were. We had no Idea if everybody else was okay, even with signals not jammed. We had no Idea how many more droids -battle droids or otherwise- were left in the facility. If you asked any of us about the status of the situation, the answer would most likely be "fuck if I know". But what was important was that we had given ourselves something to do, and all we had to do was accomplish it. When in distress, give yourself something to do.
"How are things going down there, T.H.?" I asked, rolling my shoulders from the strain. I'd had my arms up towards the hatch for over twenty minutes and they were starting to hurt.
"Clear, Commander." Answered the clone. "We have comm chatter though. Hostages are secure but the doctor is attempting to escape and Skywalker is in pursuit... -" he stilled for a second as if to listen to the radio more carefully. "General Kenobi is moving to intercept, his team is done defusing the bombs."
A relieved sigh escaped me without consent. We weren't about to die of an incurable disease. I finished the job regardless. Even when we caught Vindi, there would be droids and possibly other personel trying to escape, we needed to make sure none were left free to roam Naboo once everything was over.
"Good, I want to get out of here as soon as possible," I said placing the control panel over the wires once again and clicking it in place. "I don't think the humidity on the planet agrees with me."

#CrackpotTheoryTuesday: Chain of Iron Edition - Lucie Herondale’s Power
Hello again my lovely followers! I hope you all are enjoying some time indoors and staying safe! If you’re like me (and our favorite sneaking-out-of-windows heroine Lucie Herondale) and starting to go a little stir crazy, I hope this week’s #CrackpotTheoryTuesday will entertain you for a bit!
As always, these posts contain spoilers for everything released in the Shadowhunter Chronicles by Cassandra Clare; this post in particular has spoilers for Chain of Gold and The Last Hours Flash Fiction. You have been warned.
Okay, so here’s what we know: Lucie Herondale, an impetuous, dreamy, axe-throwing badass who spends her free time writing self-insert fanfiction, and apparently has the power to, in Cassie’s words, “command the dead.” We have seen this over and over again; in the TLH flash fiction about Lucie, she tells the ghost woman to stop and, to her surprise, the ghost obliges. Lucie also commands several ghosts throughout Chain of Gold, including Emmanuel Gast, the ghosts who drowned in the river Thames and, in probably my favorite scene, Jesse Blackthorn. The question is, how far can Lucie’s powers go? Is there anything she can’t make ghosts do, and is she limited to only ghosts as we understand them in the TSC world?
In the scene where Lucie speaks to the ghost of Emmanuel Gast, there are several things that give hints to Lucie’s powers; first, I believe Lucie has the ability to make anybody come back as a ghost, at least temporarily, even if they aren’t a traditional ghost in the TSC world. Lucie describes Gast as “no Jessamine, or Jesse Blackthorn, who looked solid and human. There was an awful shimmer in the air around it, as if with his violent end a space had been torn in the world. It - he - was ragged at the edges...” In addition, Gast himself says several things that support this theory, including, “why have you dragged me back to this place of agony?” and “You drag me back from the brink? What is this monstrous power...?” The repeated use of “dragging” someone back suggests Gast wasn’t a ghost to begin with; therefore, I think Lucie can speak to anyone who has died, as long as she commands them to come back.
The question then is how far this power goes. Can Lucie bring someone all the way back from the dead (*cough* Jesse Blackthorn *cough*), or only as a ghost? How many people can she bring back at a time? Could she raise an entire army of the undead? (Cause that would be pretty badass, ngl).
I also find it extremely fascinating how Lucie’s powers parallel Grace’s; they can both “command” others to do whatever they please, only Grace can control the living and Lucie can control the dead. This is super interesting to me, and it makes me more curious to learn about the origins of Grace’s powers (Belial as well, maybe?) and super excited to see them both work together in the next book.
There you have it! What do you think about Lucie’s powers? Let me know by replying to this post or sending a message to my ask box! Thanks for reading, and check out my other theories below!
Check out my other Crackpot Theories!
The Last Hours:
Lucie/Jesse in TLH -> Another necromancy theory (plus OTP-level romance, *insert heart eyes*) -> CONFIRMED (ChOG)
The “Villain Being a Force” in TLH -> THE PLAGUE?!? (This one puts demon pox to shame. Sorry Will!) -> Kind of right? (ChOG)
The Jordelia Marriage!! -> …Kind of right…? (ChOG)
Sona Carstairs -> So it turns out the quote isn’t by her, but there’s still something sketchy about her past!
The Dark Artifices:
Necromancy in QoAaD -> Is the whole gang coming back? (Hopefully, cause I miss my boyfriend Will Herondale!) -> My new theory for TWP tbh
Malcolm Fade/Matthew Fairchild -> Are they secretly the same person? (probs not, but you can still check it out if you want!) -> Confirmed incorrect

Book 4: Go Forth! Fledgling Warriors!
Shallot, Cabba, and Androds 17 and 18 make it to another wasteland to the coordinates that Bulma sent them for another one of Gero’s hideouts. Smoke is billowing from the lab. They hear a voice, and from the smoking lab pop Kid Trunks and Kid Goten! Shallot is confused why a couple of brats are playing around and tells them to scram, while Goten explains they’re taking care of the “bad robots” to the shock of the adults. Cabba can tell they are Saiyans and Trunks assumes the Shallot and the crew are friends with the “robots” due to 18 and 17 having the Red Ribbon logos on their clothes. Shallot and Cabba ask why 18 and 17 haven’t changed their clothes yet, but they can’t be bother and leave the boys to the two of em. The boys go Super Saiyan (to the shock of both Saiyans), they make fun of Cabba who is unabe to transform but are surprised when Shallot can transform, and attack.
Shallot and Cabba are able to hold the boys off. Shallot goes off on the kids who complaining about going all out on kids, when they themselves told them not to just treat them like children. This only makes the boys angrier and Shallot is willing to beat up two Super Saiyan kids. 18 and 17 offer to step into the fight too, and 17 plays around with them on the evil robot angle. Shallot’s baffled by 17′s “acting”, but it works and spooks the boys off so they can get stronger.
Cabba is moping about how a pair of children is able to go Super Saiyan, while he cannot. Shallot tries cheering his pupil up, but 18 takes a moment to jab at Shallot’s strength. Shallot tries picking a fight with 18, who chides him on how barbaric and indelicate he is (Bulma says it a lot to him, but he doesn’t get what it means) which amuses 18. Shallot is annoyed and thinks if he he gets rid of being “indelicate” that he might get stronger which makes 18 burst out laughing to Shallot’s annoyance. They party moves on to regroup.
Another voice interrupts their banter. It’s Bardock! Shallot mistakes him for Goku, and Turles, but recognizes he’s neither of them. Bardock has some questions, asking Shallot if he’s the Hooded Man going around killing Saiyans. Cabba is surprised, but Shallot says that he’s being mistaken for someone else. Bardock thinks he’s playing dumb and recognizes his “old fashioned look” and his face just like the rumors have been saying. Bardock is here to avenge the Saiyans the Hooded Man has killed, though Shallot berates that no one believes him. Even the Androids believe it to their own amusement. Shallot defends himself saying he’d never go around killing Saiyans, but even Cabba is starting to doubt his mentor. Bardock, ticked off, powers up and attacks.
Bardock proves to be a stubborn fighter despite not being all that strong, putting Shallot under pressure. But Shallot is having fun in their fight and the two continue to fight until both of them are tired. Bardock then decides to end it, feeling done, concluded that Shallot isn’t the Hooded Man due to the way Shallot fought (he doesn’t go in for the kill). If he were the Hooded Man, he would’ve already killed Bardock. Shallot asks why he didn’t stop the fight then, and Bardock answers that it’s because it’s in their nature to fight whenever twp Saiyans meet. Bardock apologizes for the misgivings and wishes their luck on their pursuit of the Hooded Man.
Cabba interrupts and reasons that since there’s a killer going around after Saiyans, Bardock should join their group for safety with 17 backing him up. Bardock passes due to the fact everyone in the group seem soft at heart and get in his way. Shallot tells Cabba to leave him be and Bardock gives Shallot his name and hopes they meet again.
17 and 18 continues to berate Shallot for wasting their time and call it a day to head to town. Shallot then says that he and Cabba are going to train in town and 18 doubts Shallot’s “get-angry” theory. Shallot then comes up with the idea to try a method of Zahha’s recommendation
Meanwhile, Bardock is still tracking the Hooded Saiyan and musing about Shallot’s old-fashioned clothe and when did he exactly come from. Bardock suddenly feels something and dodges an attack coming his way..and hears a taunt complimenting his dodge despite being someone “connected to the blood of the tainted”. It’s the Saiyan in Red, whom Bardock mistakes as Shallot. The Hooded Man is interested that Bardock met Shallot. Bardock realizes this is the one he’s after and swears he’s going to take him down. The two are locked in combat. The Hooded Saiyan knocks Bardock down and asks him where did he meet Shallot. Bardock gets right up and tells him to go to hell. The Hooded Saiyan kills Bardock, speaking how Bardock won’t sell out his race.
“Hah, don’t give me that. You think “we” are the same race as you “blood of the tainted?” and disappears.
But it turns out you can’t keep an old dog down, Bardock survives and swears he will get revenge on the hooded Saiyan!
Meanwhile, Shallot is training Cabba in Zahha’s “recommended method”. Of course Shallot is bullshitting this as “Warrior’s training”, but Cabba calls him out on his bullshit. Shallot tries to sell the training by saying “if we fight bad guys and you get angry, you might go Super Saiyan”. Cabba even doubts if Zahha actually recommended this...
After fighting some bad guys, Cabba doesnt feel nowhere closer to Super Saiyan and is just exhausted. Shallot just enthusastically suggested whipping out the stamina training HIS master made him endure, but the twins step in to give Cabba a break. Shallot claims they’re near a breakthrough but 18 doesn’t see anything. 17 says they’re nearly at the city and it’s time to call it a day. Dejected, they rest.
When they reach the city, they find it a ghost town with nothing but clothes littering the streets. Cell had hunted every human down and consumed them. This angers and disturbed our heroes, but it’s better to the Androids as it makes taking stuff easier. Cabba and the twins get into a tiff about morality and stealing and Cabba has HAD ENOUGH. He concludes the Androids aren’t good guys to the amusement of the twins. He has no right to complain about their, his job is to guard them. Shallot stands up for his pupil for the only reason of “they upset him” and giving that enough reason to complain. Shallot threatens to rip them to shreds in place of Cabba just for saying sneaky things like that, 18 calls Shallot not a barbarian, but a good-two-shoes and scoffs at him. The tension is at an all time higher and the the Saiyans and Androids are at odds. The twins and Shallot get into a fight while Cabba tries to calm things down.
Cabba watches from the sidelines, helpless as Shallot and the Androids right. Cabba tries to reason with them, only to be shot down and berated by arguments from everyone. While the twins and Shallot fight over right and wrong, Cabba becomes more frustrated as thing spiral out of control and no one listens to him.
Finally, in a burst of anger and frustration, Cabba explodes on the trio to everyone’s surprise. He scorns them for their in-fighting--while Shallot is stunned by Cabba’s sudden burst of power and familiar feeing of ki. And it’s not unnoticed by the Androids either, who can even feel somethng is differnet. 17 concludes that Cabba is the kind of guy you’re never supposed to make angry. Cabba threatens to use brute force is the trio can’t control themselves and the twins agree, while Shallot is to hot to keep fighting. Which only ticks Cabba off further and spooks him back in his place. Shallot knows that Cabba’s ki is definitely a Super Saiyan’s, but unperfected yet and asks how his ki felt when he flipped out. Cabba was unaware of it and Shallot exclaims he’s getting close!
Zahha contacts them on their communicator, aware of a huge blast of ki from their location and was worried if it was Call. Seems even Zahha noticed! Shallot calms Zahha down and explains they were just fighting and brags about Cabba’s amazing ki, to Zahha’s annoyance. He calls them idiots for not being careful enough when Cell is out there on the prowl and orders them to leave immediatley and find somewhere to hide since Cell could’ve easily sensed that energy.
And speak of the devil, as the gang are flying away and Cabba is moping about messing up (with no help from 17′s teasing), the group try to sense Cell’s ki if he’s pursuing them. Shallot doesn’t sense anything until he feels something! He tells everyone to fly higher until they see they’re under attack from the surface. Cell was surpressing his Ki and launched a sneak attack. His power had grown in a magnitude higher than last time! Shallot is done sneaking around and wants to finish things here and now, but Cabba tells him they can’t! It’s doubtful they can even escape when he’s that close. Cabba volunteers to hold Cell back while the others escape as he feels this was his fault. This reminds Shallot of Nappa’s sacrifice and sending him flying to Vegeta while he held the Ginyu Force off. Shallot refuses to let Cabba go alone and play hero and refuses to run, vowing to defeat Cell here and now. He asks 17 and 18 to help out to everyone’s surprise. Shallot tells the twins of what his Masters taught him,
“When it comes to battle, you better not hesitate in doing what needs to be done.”
Either way, the twins have no intention of fleeing either. They want to kill Gero and dont wish to stand down either. Both promise not to get in each others’ ways. Cabba protests, but 18 yells at him venting her frustrations about being protected all the time. Cabba is fearful that even with their powers combined, they still wouldn’t be a match for Cell. Shallot teaches Cabba a valuable lesson, that he’s “A thousand year too young to be worrying about his Master”. The trio stop mid-air engage the pursuing Cell.
Cell mocks them for their foolishness and Shallot remarks that being called an idiot doesn’t bother him anymore. Cell isn’t too bothered and manages to knock the Saiyans around easily. Cell now sets his sights on the twins. Their attacks do nothing on the monster and Cell prepares to absorb them. Shallot gets up and suddenly has a burst of memory from that same mysterious voice
“Frustrated? Then...get stronger...You can still get a lot stronger...You have the potential...”
Shallot still needs to get stronger! He demands his body to let the energy out and goes Super Saiyan, teleporting to where Cell is and knocking him away. Telelporting back to face Cell far away from the twins. Shallot fights Cell with all his might, actually putting the pressure on Cell with his underlying power. But even still, Shallot is losing steam. Cell commends his efforts and attacks for the kill, until Cabba steps in to stop Cell! 17 and 18 teleport behind Cell thanks to being untraceable with no ki, the trio power up and send Cell flying in a trio attack. Shallot is still severely tired and hurt and collapses. Cabba goes after Shallot while the twins make a run for it.
Cell is furious that he lost his chance and was taken by surprise. Cell is shocked he can’t sense their ki, realizing their hiding themselves from him. In a furious rage,he curses the Androids.
The twins meet up with Cabba and the wounded Shallot in the city from earlier. A perfect place for hiding spots. Cell is still alive and even though Shallot is frustrated on losing their chance to finishing him, 17 commends Shallot’s amazing prowess. Zahha interrupts from the communicator. Like an angry parent, Zahha is pissed and demands a big explanation from Shallot. Zahha berates Shallot and Cabba, especially Cabba who was supposed to be the level-headed one who allowed this to happen. 17 defends Cabba and Zahha scorns the twins for picking on him. Zahha then explains that their risk had some sort of payoff.
By coming into contact with Cell, Cabba was able to attach a tracker on Cell without his knowledge. Something Zahha and Piccolo wanted to do. Shallot doesn’t know what a tracker is. Shallot is proud of Cabba nonetheless. Checking the tracker, Cell’s movements have stopped and this is probably where the real hideout is. Shallot is ready to take Cell and Gero down, but Zahha says its too early for that. The second thing they achieved was acquiring knowledge of Cell’s current strength. Zahha believes even with their entire team together, they couldn’t truly stand up to defeat Cell as he is now. Zahha explains they’re looking for new allies to join them and to “suck it up” to the dismay of everyone.
The next morning..Cabba wakes up and broods about being on standby while Cell is absorbing people. He notices something in the distance..Shallot’s up early and taken by surprise. Shallot’s excuse is that he’s up early to hunt breakfast--and totally not thinking of storming into Cell’s place. (he’s not a good liar). Shallot really wants to go and asks if Cabba wants to too. Cabba agrees, but also thinks Zahha’s decision was correct too. Shallot’s convinces because of yesterday, they might have a chance to fight. This ticks Cabba off and he powers up to Shallot’s surprise. Cabba stands his ground to stop Shallot from proceeding. Shallot, determined, goes Super Saiyan and agrees to fight.
Cabba can’t keep up with Super Saiyan Shallot. Shallot turns back, worried if he overdid it and hurt Cabba. He gets up, laughing. He compliments Shallot’s strength and announces his belief in his Master’s resolve. The twins appear as well and explain that Cabba believes Shallot will somehow save the day. Cabba is finally on board to take down Gero and Cell. Shallot is annoyed but asks if it’s okay to go against Zahha’s instructions, but Cabba remarks that travelling with them has been a bad influence on him. Shallot’s amued at his “troublesome student” but cries that he’s not a bad influence, the Androids are! The Androids joke that Shallot’s also a bad influence and say they have unfinished business with the two villains and 16. 17 claims their friends, which Shallot remarks “since when are we friends?!” 17 overheard Shallot’s exclamation to Cell “not to hurt his friends!”, embarrassing the ancient Saiyan.
18 remarks that men bond in the strangest ways. The party decides to head out at last, for Gero and Cell!

Lizzie and Henry attempt to solidify their alliance with Spain. Meanwhile, Richard York makes his play for England. Get a sneak peek of this week’s The White Princess.
Courtesy of STARZ/Sony Pictures Television Inc.
Last week’s The White Princess propels us seven years into the future, and as the kiss at the end of Episode 4 (“The Pretender“) insinuates, Lizzie and Henry have found their feet as unit. I think we’ve all been hoping and wishing for these two to find love and happiness together. And, as Henry says in Episode 2 (“Hearts and Minds“), with Lizzie’s acumen for politics and knowledge of the England, they could be fantastic rulers. Several times, we see Henry take Lizzie’s counsel seriously and appreciate her contributions. At the same time, Lizzie is solidly on Team Tudor, for the sake of her husband and children.
It’s this shift in loyalty, one that Elizabeth Woodville predicts, that motives one of last week’s major conflicts. Someone claiming to be Richard York is in Burgundy, and with help of the Duchess, has been making his case across Europe for the English throne. Of course this thrills Elizabeth to no end. Yet, this also causes strife with Lizzie. The original goal might have been to have a White Rose on the throne, but what would this mean for Lizzie and her children? Well, this comes to a head when young Prince Harry (Yes, he who becomes Henry VIII!) is name Duke of York. Elizabeth interrupts the ceremony to declare her son Richard the true Duke of York and King of England. Scandalous… maybe Elizabeth’s illness makes her more bold? I know Lizzie would be angry, but when she disowns Elizabeth as her mother, you know it’s serious! Yep, Lizzie’s a Tudor.
It’s also interesting to take a step back and ask ourselves whether we think “The Boy” in Burgundy is actually Richard York. After Maggie and Richard Pole’s trip to Burgundy, I pretty convinced the guy is an imposter. I’d really want to see Lizzie meet Richard… would she recognize him? Incidentally, I just have to say I’m so glad Maggie is happy in her marriage and child. Yet, it’s such a shame that Teddy is still in prison and history tells us that is where he remains until the end of his young life. Maggie isn’t so far off when she calls the Plantagenet name a curse.
Finally, I just need to say that Jasper Tudor deserved better. He’s always sacrificed for Henry and Lady Margaret, delaying starting his own family, marrying Cate Woodville to bring funds to Henry’s cause, loving Margaret from afar. And in the end, he’s heartbroken because the woman he’s loved has no compunctions about murdering children. Then Margaret takes a pillow to his face to murder him, all for power. Lady Margaret is a real piece of work…
(For more, check out our full recap of “Traitors” HERE.)
In this week’s episode “English Blood on English Soil” (written by Emma Frost and Alice Nutter, directed by Alex Kalymnios):
Henry and Elizabeth travel to Spain in an attempt to secure their son’s betrothal, but news of their country’s instability has preceded them. Further afield, unrest has been growing in Burgundy and spills over into an English battle and a hollow victory. (via STARZ)
Well, perhaps The Boy will make his way to England sooner than we thought.
Watch these two clips from the upcoming show. In the first, the Duchess of Burgundy is speaking with Richard and encouraging him to wage war to reclaim the English throne. And in the second video, Lizzie proposes that they solidify an alliance with Spain via Arthur’s betrothal to Catherine of Aragon.
I love how much of a until Henry and Lizzie are now. It’s clear that he appreciates her… loves her?
And did anyone else see a trace of doubt in the Duchess of Burgundy? I don’t know that she actually thinks that boy is Richard.
Take a look at 14 images from “English Blood on English Soil’, including the trip to Spain and Henry’s battle against Richard. Make sure to live tweet with @WeSoNerdy this Sunday, May 21 at 8:00pm ET on STARZ!

No Mando Monday today? 😢
Uh... 😅🤦‍♀️
Well, there was supposed to be...... but I appear to have accidentally queued it up to start at 10pm instead of 10am! Oops.
Sorry, anon friend! Sorry, folks! 🙈
Thank you for trying to remind me, 'nonny, but unfortunately I've been busy with other things today and didn't check in with tumblr until just now. At this point, I think it's a bit late to start 10 hours of mando content (and 10pm is definitely too late!), so I guess we'll have Mando Tuesday this week instead! See you tomorrow!

so wait - can we still send in fic recs for your follower celebration? i meant to but i’m kind of forgetful and didn’t remember yesterday was the last day 🤦🏾
Yes, you can!!
No worries, 'nonny!  You can still send in fic recs—or art recs or gif recs—I'm asking for recs for any/all sorts of fanworks!
In fact, let's make it official:
Deadline to submit Fanwork Recommendations for twp's 'Show Me the Fanworks' Celebration Now Extended Until Tuesday 7/12*!
*with the sidenote that I'll be busy this weekend and probably won't have a chance to post any asks that come in after this afternoon until at least Monday
Thanks for checking in, love, and yes, please send those recs in!
🧡 twp
P.S. to anyone who send in a rec ask that I haven't posted yet: Don't panic! I still have a bunch of fanwork rec asks in my inbox, so it's probably in there. I'll try to get through the backlog before life steals me away this afternoon

Sorry, folks, No Mando Monday today
Hopefully I’ll be able to scrap stuff together for next week, but in the mean time:
I hope everyone is having a good day! <3

Okay, folks... It looks like Mando Monday (and posting just in general) is gonna wind up being a little more sparse and sporadic for a while. I've got too much going on to be able to keep up doing a full mando hours every week, but... I also don't want to stop entirely. So I guess this is your heads up that we'll be playing weekly Mando Monday roulette: some, all, or none depending on what I have time for 😅🤷‍♀️)
