TWU for the fandom asks?
001 | Send me a fandom and I will tell you my:
Favorite character: gonna come out of left field with this one and say Bradley!
Least Favorite character: Freddie
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): oh man this ask was made for shows with bigger casts I fear haha but Charlotte/Shona, Aine/Bradley, and we'll throw out there 2 pairings I never would have considered were it not for the wonderful world of fandom: Charlotte/Aine and Charlotte/Celeste/Shona
Character I find most attractive: Charlotte
Character I would marry: Charlotte
Character I would be best friends with: Bradley
a random thought: I haven't thought about this show in a while, so it's just nice to bring it back to memory :) thanks anon!
An unpopular opinion: hmm maybe that I liked season 2? Or at least that I have a vision for how season 2 could lead into a very satisfying season 3 if done well and think some of the biggest weaknesses of season 2 were less about this show in particular and more about shows that went for a filmed-earlyish-in-the-pandemic season (see also the early eps of the final season of Grace and Frankie)
My Canon OTP: I think Charlotte/Shona counts!
My Non-canon OTP: Aine/Bradley just because they're not canon yet, not because I think they won't be
Most Badass Character: Aine - she's gone through a lot, and she's still standing and working on getting to a brighter future for herself
Most Epic Villain: uh I don't think of really any of them as villains?
Pairing I am not a fan of: Shona/Vish - they have some really sweet scenes and there were times when I actually liked them together, but the writing really shifted on him and his suddenly thinking Shona would want a lot of things she had always said she didn't want didn't sit right with me
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): not screw up, but I feel like season 2 Charlotte was always reacting and might have been shifted into more of a main character like Bradley and even Richard had been
Favourite Friendship: Shona and Aine
Character I most identify with: uhm maybe Charlotte, at least back when I was trying to figure out coming out as a lifelong Catholic haha
Character I wish I could be: maybe Bradley...get that fitness back on (besides the fact that he's a great friend and manages to keep such a good attitude)

(well now it’s all out in the open, Liar of Slizzy!!!)
I don’t dislkie then, except I’m a total racist just like you guys and completely hate it.....because otherwise, why TF would I be on a tumblr consisting of bad fanfic, old gifsets as “proof” Jizzy r endgame and daily, “I don’t hate Tabi/Jabi, buuuutttt...”
Plenty, repeatedly....that you don’t see it simply shows your disgusting bias. And I think we can all further attribute this to, “I’m not racist, buuutt.....”
We’re “assuming” they’re in love with each other based on nearly 2 seasons of first slow burn, now active devotion......and, again, it’s always hilarious we get this from the peeps who fapped themselves raw over “hey” and a shoulder tap.
Soooo....looking in the mirror and subbing “I want Cole’s D for Slizzy/PP/Me and racism hate boners? Also, what “projection”? Dude, they’re a canon ship, the writers and the actors have stated as much.....
And ever think the physical shit’s left to a minimum so Erinn won’t get even moar hate from you nutbars?
Tumblr media
Bullshit. I also loooovvveee how y’all are compelled to “send” (cuz, LBR) these missives to yourselves/your socks every fuckin’ day....honestly, if it’s all true, why so pressed? Wouldn’t this “prove” you’ll have Jizzy (with all its toxicity, Jug endlessly second--at best, cereal cheetah Slizzy always seeking to fuck somebody nu, etc?), why so endlessly concerned over a ship you simply feel is “platonic”? Why do you thusly always want Tabs to “suffer”, too?
Also, Jizzy is nothing but “intimate touches of comfort” and, even if you were right about “platonic” (no), friendships typically have that, as well. Plus while, OG Jizzy did have exceptional chemistry (they were a couple then, duh), none of the OG couples otherwise did....and that chemistry is no longer there, because of your kween.
Plus, again, WHY do you make the same, very dull and hackneyed whinings, every day? Liar of Slizzy certainly won’t make your wish come true. She’s never even remotely right.
Tumblr media
Bullshit, Jabi do have chemistry----Barfie don’t, but they’re terrible actors, KokeJ never does (with wimmin, excepting MM, at least) AND PP tried to fuck him and, honestly, Minkle/Tolars have infinitely better chemistry than either ever had with Gossip Ghey or Pussy....again, cuz fuckbuddies.....
The rumors you and Snorty started, Liar of Slizzy? Cuz per Cole and Erinn, they get along really well. See above for the others....ya know who DON’T GET ALONG WELL AT ALL??? Yeah, the couple doing split screens for platonic scenes.
But “hey” and being an utter cuntwipe prove epic twu wuv? Wow, who knew? Also, dude....again, find something new. Stop repeating yourselves....and now it’s the writers, again? I thought “the beats were yours”?????
Tumblr media
It pains me to say this, but Barfie are, actually fine as currently depicted....however, apparently, Slizzy IS a complete slut and is gonna be trashing that soon enough for a hot lady.....
Nope, again, interesting you claim “say it enough and it will be true, because that’s what YOU’RE doing.....but, again, I don’t call y’all the “Gaslighter Gang” for nothing....
Tumblr media
Because your dream was always for Tabs to be a mammy figure---as your fanfics fully demonstrate. You all persuaded yourselves and it was utterly pathetic.
And yes, you WILL have to “stand them” thru likely all of season 7, possible endgame.....and since, supposedly, it’s only that they bore you, once again, why so pressed?
No, you think they should’ve had her “know her place”. We know exactly how she feels, she’s devastated and doesn’t even seem to know how to handle it/manage it. And seems like you don’t even watch the show....or you’d know she was yelling at him because she was afraid he’d kill himself and she was possessed when she trashed the typewriter. Which only you guys GAF about.
She doesn’t have seekrits, dude.....she isn’t Slizzy....that’s the point.
Again, you really do fanfic in these scenes, too, huh?

That chocolatecakecas person almost caught a clue. Why would CW scrape canon destiel after greenlighting that confession? So according to hellers they wrote/filmed 15.18 and a twu wuv ending in 15.20, but decided to scrape it...When? It's not like these were different seasons for network execs to get cold feet during hiatus about risky choices. They were consecutive final eps. Do they think Pedowitz got triggered after watching 15.18 & changed the finale in 2 weeks (can't blame him, but still)?
Right? Yeah, their theories never make any internal sense because they're predicated on twisting and cherry picking "clues" to fit what they've already decided to believe rather than assessing the whole picture and actually trying to understand what really happened and how they ended up misunderstanding so badly. That, however, would require admitting that they were ever wrong, so.
Their ship was definitely going to become undeniably, reciprocally canon ... because. So for it not to have, there must have been some giant conspiracy, and since the writers have to have been on their side (all those totally real hints in plaid shirts), it must have been the network! The ebil network must have been involved in deciding to make the ship canon and then backed out immediately afterwards in the very next episode ... because! It's not an option that Assclown and Misha were just trying to placate them with a desiccated vaguely bone-shaped pacifier! They know their ship was meant to be canon! It's The Truth they've bravely declared to all the dirty unbelievers for years!
Sure, there was more time in between filming those episodes since 15x18 was shot before the shutdown and the final two were after, but that time didn't occur between the pitching of the story and writing of the scripts. We also know, despite the hellers denial, Misha had a farewell party from the crew before the break and several people who saw all the scripts said there was no version where Dean reciprocated.
Furthermore, we've seen for years that Misha cares most about attention/riling up fans while Jensen actually cares about his character. It's pretty damn easy to tell when Misha's stance on whatever changes entirely depending on the audience and who he's on stage with while Jensen's stay pretty consistent. Then you get into how there was no narrative building up to any lurve confession especially with how Castiel was a giant, whiny, self-centered dick fixated on Jack the last several seasons. Few things better underline that lack of previous intent more than Misha's own absurd claim he was totes playing Cas as in love with Dean but couldn't answer as to when that became a character decision - because it wasn't, it was just more pandering bullshit and lies. Like all the times in previous years when he claimed at cons that the writers or Jensen were totally on board and it was gonna happen!!! Yet he was contradicted shortly thereafter by Jensen "I don't play to that/Where is it real?" Ackles and Bob Singer saying that it was never discussed in the writers' room.
At least not until Misha found someone just as void of professional integrity and pathetically desperate for asspats on twitter as he. Except Jensen was never onboard because it made zero sense for Dean, Bob Singer for all his faults has always been firm the show is about Sam & Dean, and there wasn't a side character orgy involved so Dabb wasn't interested. So the actual queerbaiters got their brief, ambiguous moment to pander to those fans one last time and the rest of the show went on to where it was going anyway.
None of that fits what they've already decided to believe, though, so it totally doesn't count/isn't real or is only because of NDAs/homophobia/whatever - pass the tinfoil hats!

twu s2 thoughts even though nobody asked <3 just a brain dump and it’s quite long so I tried to separate my commentary by categories but it’s still a mess unfortunately. Spoilers under the cut!
Tumblr media
General
Overall, I enjoyed season 1 more than season 2. I’ve watched season 2 three times now, and I do think it had some good parts that I definitely overlooked during my first watch (probably because I was preoccupied with Charlotte x Shona 😶😅). My initial reaction to this season was like ‘hmm so that happened and I’m not sure what to think’ but then I rewatched it and tbh I think my complaints are mostly to do with the time jump between seasons and the pacing...
Like yeah there’s only so much to touch on in six 25-minute episodes but!!! I finished the season wanting a bit more, because I thought that some of the things that were introduced were either not explained fully/well or they just dropped off completely and didn’t really have an effect other than me asking questions after the season was over, like it felt as though there were missing scenes— more on that later (though maybe they will be addressed in season 3??? If there is one? How soon do shows get renewed? Idk). Though I guess the audience does have to do some interpretation of their own but still... Idk! Idk. And the assumption that certain events/plot points mentioned in a character’s dialogue would be enough for context had me kinda “:///” y’know? Like don’t tell me, show me?? I’d like the full course please!!
Charlotte x Shona (+ Vish I guess)
I think it was really jarring to see their relationship grow from colleague/business partners to friends and then finally to something more in season 1 only to see them awkwardly handle their unresolved feelings in the workplace with nothing to show for their actual relationship besides a mention of “a week-long gay safari” + the brief flashes of a sex scene that was intermingled with Shona and Vish’s cyber sex session, which in itself is 😐😐😐 like yes it shows that Shona still thinks about/fancies Charlotte in some capacity, but if I were to choose between that sex fantasy/flashback or a flashback of Charlotte and Shona together (like Charlotte telling Shona she was falling for her!!!!)... I think I’d choose the latter? I was just disappointed that we didn’t really get to see Charlotte and Shona being all cute and romantic with each other this season :(
ALSO I wished we got to see more of jealous!Shona; I was super hyped to see that since that scene was included in the trailer. It was nice to see her want the best for Charlotte because she’s “great” but the jealousy part of knowing Charlotte is dating someone great got settled pretty quickly and instead we got Shona evaluating her commitment to Vish and considering the idea of having kids after learning she has a womb of a 39-year-old (😐) and it felt.... like a lot!! It was definitely different from season 1 Shona (”I actually don’t want kids” “I genuinely, I genuinely don’t, you know, it’s not a big deal. Just never have” in 1x04) but if this was to show her dealing with comphet or internalized homophobia or just simply running away from her feelings then... idk what to think of it! I really don’t. I think this is where things could have been written differently because using an affair with Charlotte like that (an affair that we didn’t even get to see besides the stolen kisses at the finance event) was so... ugh, I’m suffering here
Anyway, I think their office scenes were definitely highlights of the season, like Indira and Sharon really gave those scenes their all!! Even though it hurts to see Charlotte so heartbroken and Shona running away from her feelings and hurting Charlotte in the process, I live for the angst lol. I will say though, the 180 that happened after their convo outside Charlotte’s office was a bit “🤔” considering Charlotte had talked to her therapist about Shona for 4 months. Like one hungover feeling dump from Shona and they can move on? Hmm communication is connection, huh. And I guess they were just excited that the article got good results? But how cute that they got each other gifts of their picture in the article??? Wtffff I love my “unfunny and obvious” gal pals even though I’m in pain
As for the voice note... omg, so many questions. Like did Charlotte try to reach out to Shona after she abruptly ended their call to check if she sent the voice note to Vish?? Was that gonna be the first time Charlotte heard Shona say “I love you” to her? What was the reason Shona said “I love you” anyway??? Is she, you know 👀 Also do y’all think Vish will listen to the entire voice note since it was clear it was meant for Charlotte? And who knows maybe Vish’s phone died and he can’t turn it back on or check his WhatsApp or whatever. I’m in denial lmao. But also I think he's a pretty good guy, like when he sent biscuits over to the house when Shona wanted some and him saying what’s the point of having fun in New York when she's not there with him... :/ but he was also a bit weird about her putting a nail in a wall or leaving out the egg duck or whatever as a display item in their house though I suppose that’s not a huge problem so like idk man idk!!! I'm just saying season 3 better not have a time jump I need to see what happens and not just in exposition
Shona and Aine
Love them :) I wish they had more scenes together (if that's possible??) but I liked the somewhat change in dynamic seeing Aine a bit worried about Shona (asking her if she’s okay when she mentions she’s thinking of getting a fringe lmao and again asking if she’s okay when they’re unpacking in Vish’s house). And of course Shona is still very protective and worrisome but seeing Aine just miserably lounging around her apartment over the weekend and getting in her bike accident after Shona wasn’t too supportive of her and James’s business idea made me so sad :( like Shona was so shitty about her not typing up everything in the notes for the meeting! And not even reading James's CV... big yikes. Anyway I thought it was odd that we didn’t get a follow up on the voice note Aine left Shona after getting into the bike accident... like she sounded soooo shaky and out of it :((( what luck Shona was sick and didn’t see Aine with a missing tooth before she got it fixed
Anyhow, Aine was right when she said Shona needs to talk to her and talk about her feelings more!! AND this is part of where my complaint about the pacing and the missing scenes comes into play! I think we should have seen Aine and Shona fighting about Shona’s affair and leaving Vish the voice note. The audience knows Aine cares about Vish and I’m not entirely sure where her relationship with Charlotte stands since Charlotte told Freddie about her being in rehab (on the assumption that he knew, as Aine’s ex-boyfriend) but!!! Just cutting to them on the floor waiting for Vish’s flight to land was not as hard hitting as it could have been
Aine x Bradley (+ Richard)
OKAYYY. Cute!!! I definitely overlooked the signs during my first watch here but yeah they were definitely there during my rewatch(es)!! I quite liked seeing Bradley try to get Aine to stop talking negatively about herself and just try to treat herself better in general like exercising and actually eating off of a plate :’) and the comparisons between Bradley and Richard have me like 👀📝 Bradley saying he likes how much Aine talks vs. Richard’s friend Mark saying she talks a lot and how he wasn’t expecting a whole show to which Richard replies he thought that at first too but she “calms down” like brooo... alright. Anyway Bradley going with her to Tom’s funeral/service made sense since he actually met Tom (though Aine did vaguely talk about him and his drinking problem to Richard in 1x05) and the fact that she told Bradley about PACT and her time there but she didn’t tell Richard (to be fair she was thinking about telling him) hmm 👀 Also Bradley saying “Sometimes it would just be nice to be with someone you could just relax with as yourself” yeah I’m on board with them
Loneliness, COVID, Communication is Connection
Initially I thought these themes could have come across a little stronger but after rewatching... hmm. Yes, Shona was lonely in the house by herself; she even asked Anil to stay for dinner, had her own “pile of shit” boyfriend on her bed (which she did clear off), and told Vish that nobody had time for her. Also after the business meeting she asked Aine what she was doing during the weekend (which Aine also spent alone anyway), but I dunno... oh yeah her hen/bachelorette party was a bit lonely since places were starting to go into lockdown and not everybody could attend, but I think the COVID element entered a bit too late into this season? I’m not sure it really added much in terms of the loneliness. Maybe it did add to the uncertainty of things though
“Communication is Connection” was there but I thought it kind of fell flat as well, but maybe that was the intention— to highlight the mess that a lack of communication can cause? Shona apparently writing off Charlotte’s feelings and them not necessarily talking about their relationship/feelings until their convo outside Charlotte’s office... Shona talking to Seema saying she’s never really asked what Vish wanted (regarding kids) and Seema saying that’s a convo for her and Vish to have... Aine not telling Richard she overheard him and Mark talking about her... Richard not consulting Aine about telling Etienne about them and just getting a new tutor for him... hmm. What does it mean. What does it all mean
Other stuff I’m still thinking about/have questions about
Shona mentioning it’s “annoying” how Aine talks like she’s the only person to ever get sad in episode 1 but still telling Aine she’s fine and then in episode 6 Shona saying she only has two emotions or whatever so she doesn’t need to talk to Aine about her feelings as much -____- istg we need to get Shona to talk to a therapist in season 3!!!
I also liked that Shona, Aine, and Eileen talked more. I’m still a little disappointed that the fact Eileen leaving Shona for three months when she was a baby was not mentioned at all. Yeah it was a secret but when Eileen said “well, you should never lie. You’ll always get caught out.” I— HELLO? If anything, that secret seeing daylight could have had something to do with Shona's sadness + loneliness this season. Also could you imagine that becoming a fear of Shona’s, like what if she doesn’t want kids because she’s afraid of doing the same thing to hers if she has any??
Jim asking Charlotte if she’s straight and Shona immediately going “what does that have to do with anything” or something like that and apologizing to Charlotte after Jim left— I’m not sure how I should have read that??? Did Shona mention to Jim that Charlotte is a lesbian?? When he started to ask, he was still looking at Shona (yeah I’m reading too much into this I know)
Marcia figuring out that Aine and Richard were seeing each other (after he touched her hand on his way out to get a taxi)— what was the purpose? Other than Marcia obviously feeling bad for Etienne, whom I assume she sees as a son of her own (based on the Mom Instinct™ snooping when she was doing housekeeping + her convo with Aine when he came back from France). She didn’t talk to either Aine or Richard about it, just told Aine to have a good time when they were leaving the house to go to their “separate” events. I guess it wasn't her place to say anything, but hm. Speaking of Etienne, it was obvious he had a schoolboy crush on Aine (or at least he was vying for her attention) in season 1 and it’s really too bad we didn’t get to see his reaction to suddenly getting a new tutor or dealing with Aine and Richard’s relationship other than him looking at them hugging while the new tutor was teaching him. He deserved some more screen time this season :(
Hmm so that was all very incoherent but if you made it this far thank youuu <3 here are some last silly comments:
Absolutely loved Julie!! I want to know what she knows about Charlotte and Shona 👀 girl give me the scoop on the last 4 months at the office
Super sad we didn’t get to see Charlotte’s cat (I’m always gonna be vocal about this 🗣🗣🗣) or know who her new girlfriend was but at the very least we were introduced to one of the most important side characters of all: Charlotte’s stompy boots <33333 she really wore those around the office with a blazer/blouse/leather skirt! We love that lesbian attire

for the past weeks i thought d&d were that much obsessed with twincest that they were always planning for jaime to die with cersei and all the jb stuff was their idea of red herring to make the ending ~subversive (by subversive they actually mean out of the left field but what are words anyway). but with the confirmation from lena that they went so far as to film cersei having a miscarriage in season 7, and that she didn’t even know they cut it until the episode actually aired, i’m now thinking these hacks were actually not sure if they wanted a jc endgame or a jb endgame, so they were writing or even possibly filming for both endgames during the production of season 8.
there’s just so many scenes and shots that don’t jive with their twincest 4eva uwu fairy tale.
1. in 8x2 jaime turning to look at brienne before replying to the question “why do you betray your family now?” like he straight up admitted he knows that by going north, he’s betraying cersei, and this was not just an enemy mine situation
2. and then he went up to brienne and pretty much said that he came to winterfell for her
3. they had jaime showing no doubts or hesitation whatsoever in his decision to abandon cersei. just regret that the relationship happened in the first place.
4. bran specifying that they need jaime in the war (either the Short Night, or the war against Cersei)
5. the focus on the two of them during jon’s eulogy on 8x4, specifically on that part where jon says “... so that others might live.” seriously check this out, the shot lingered on them during that line.
6. specifying during the feast that brienne is an only child (changing it from only surviving child in the books), which means she’s the heir to her own island.
7. oathkeeper, the symbol of their relationship, being the focus at the start of their love scene. seriously, what was the point of this shot if this relationship was supposed to be a pit stop.
8. “it grows on you.” “i don’t want things growing on me.” the implication is that brienne did grow on him.
9. the confusing editing of their post-bang scenes, like
a. they fuck, and we have some rumors that they filmed more, including that brienne takes off his fake hand.
b. jaime looked pensive after, which may or may not indicate regret
c. but then the “regret” is contradicted with the scene with brienne and sansa in the council that indicates that brienne and jaime have decided to cohabitate,
d. compounded by a scene with jaime and tyrion where jaime was happy and content witht his arrangement, even though it would have been the perfect time to telegraph jaime’s doubts, especially since bronn coming up to tell them cersei hired him to kill them went nowhere anyway
e. and THEN! they chose to imply that they bang before jaime leaves, which does not make sense if cersei is jaime’s twu wuv. at all. this was one of the reasons everyone thought he was going to KL to kill cersei. the other reason is that cersei put a bounty on not just his own head, but also tyrion’s!
eventually they decided on the jc endgame, but they are so incompetent and lazy they didn’t bother double-checking their first draft to ensure every scene was in order.
tl;dr: d&d are hacks

Funny Facts about WWE the Undertaker
It’s finally official. The Undertaker announced that he will indeed participate in WrestleMania 29 against former WWE champion CM Punk.
WWE the Undertaker has become a living legend in the WWE, wrestling well into his 40s and only appearing once or twice a year. Over the last few years Taker has made himself available just for WrestleMania, giving fans little time to really think much about the character and, more importantly, the man behind the character.
Here are seven fun facts about WWE the Undertaker.
1. He Hasn’t Always Been the Phenom
Tumblr media
Most professional wrestlers go through a few different ring names throughout their career. Undertaker has gone through eight. EIGHT.
When he first entered the business he was known simply as “The Master of Pain.” He then became Texas Red, The Punisher, Punisher Dice Morgan, Commando, Mean Mark Callous and, my personal favorite, Kane The Undertaker. Yes, you read that correctly, Kane The Undertaker.
As seen on this WWF Update, before WWE the Undertaker became…well, The Undertaker, he was Kane The Undertaker. He was given the first name to make it easier on announcers who just didn’t really use it for his first few matches.
The WWF then dropped Kane from his name and would eventually give it to Undertaker’s “brother.”
2. Once Beat Himself at SummerSlam
Tumblr media
Undertaker has had some epic matches against incredible opponents. At WrestleMania alone he’s beaten the likes of Jimmy Snuka, Jake Roberts, Ric Flair, Triple H, HBK and Edge, among others. Taker has also beaten some impressive opponents at SummerSlam, included on that list: himself?
In the early 1990s Undertaker was dealing with some back injuries which led to a new Undertaker being introduced to the WWE audience by Ted DiBiase after WrestleMania X. The fake Undertaker, Brian Lee, was referred to by the WWE Universe as the “Underfaker” during Taker’s absence.
Eventually the real Undertaker would come back to feud with himself which led to the SummerSlam match seen above.
Not many men have beaten themselves in a match…pretty solid.
3. He’s Wasn’t Always a Wrestler
Tumblr media
WWE the Undertaker isn’t just a talented professional wrestler, oh no, he’s a solid all-around athlete. After high school Taker took his talents to Texas Wesleyan University.
Taker was a talented basketball player and spent a couple of years playing at a two-year college in Texas before heading to Texas Wesleyan for the 1985-86 basketball season with the Rams of TWU.
Unfortunately for TWU Rams fans he found professional wrestling shortly after coming to school and from there, it was all history.
Imagine if he made it to the NBA. Mark Calaway going up against David Robinson or Hakeem Olajuwan.
4. He’s Likes a Good Fight
Tumblr media
Taker’s basketball skills aren’t his only extracurricular sports interests. It’s also well-known that Taker likes to get away from the world of fake fighting with a night of real brawls.
Taker is a huge fan of boxing and even carried the US flag for Manny Pacquiao’s team before Pac’s 2005 fight against Velazquez. Taker also attended the 2002 battle between Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson.
The Phenom’s love for fighting doesn’t end there. He was also part of an infamous encounter with recently-renewed WWE Superstar Brock Lesnar at UFC 121 after one of Lesnar’s fights. Taker says in the interview that he’s a huge fan of UFC and MMA overall.
5. He Beat a Legend for His First Championship
Tumblr media
Most WWE Superstars have won a title at some point in their career. Maybe in the lower organizations, maybe they’ve even found WWE gold, but few WWE Superstars win their first professional title against a living legend.
WWE the Undertaker did just that. During his time as the “Master of Pain” in the USWA Taker won the USWA Unified World Heavyweight Championship against none other than Jerry “The King” Lawler.
King may just be a WWE announcer now, but he was one of the most important people in the history of professional wrestling in the south. He has done just about everything in the business and on that fateful day in 1989 he put over a young man who would go on to have one of the most impressive streaks in WWE history.
6. He Can Thank Hogan for His WWF Career
Tumblr media
This one brings a little speculation with it, but the story is too awesome to pass up.
Everyone remember Hulk Hogan’s cinematic masterpiece “Suburban Commando?”
You don’t? It’s cool, it probably just took you too long to think through Hogan’s endless list of amazing films.
Well, Suburban Commando was a winner. Hogan is a space commando. After an epic space battle, Hogan’s ship has to stop on Earth. As he waits for his ship to recharge he finds himself getting into all sorts of wacky hijinx and hilarious situations.
Hogan wasn’t the only professional wrestler in the film, however.
WWE the Undertaker was signed on for the illustrious role of Hutch, a super-strong bad guy bent on destroying Hogan.
The story goes that Hogan started to become close to Taker and found out he was a professional wrestler. After seeing his impressive acting skills (because the Hulkster knows so much about acting) Hogan called up Vince McMahon who gave Taker a shot.
Can you imagine what the WWE would be like if Vince didn’t take a shot on the youngster in the video above? Could you really blame him if he didn’t?
7. One of His WrestleMania Victories Was Due to DQ
Tumblr media
This was the most surprising piece of info I found while digging through the deep and dark catacombs of Undertaker’s long career. One of Taker’s Mania victories was won on a technicality.
During WrestleMania IX Taker took on the man with the most unsettling attire in the WWE, Giant Gonzalez. During the match Gonzalez acquired a cloth with chloroform and knocked Taker out, giving The Phenom his third consecutive WrestleMania victory.
It’s the only one of Taker’s Mania matches that was decided by disqualification and is an outcome that isn’t talked about often when WWE historians discuss Taker’s impressive 20-0 streak.
To be fair, he did return and clear Gonzalez from the ring.

Here we go. Round #2 NCAA lll playoffs!! We not only loss to this team 2 times in the regular season. The are the host team for the playoffs. So some will say they have home court advantage. I beg to differ. When the game starts, all that goes out the door in my book. It is NCAA lll playoff time. arcs & story pacing in vld
So I mentioned in an earlier post that I think there’s something else going on that has people kinda uneasy about where VLD is going. I’m still kinda noodling on this, but the short answer is that I think it has to do with the way stories are most commonly structured.
There’s no way to say from here whether the cause is the EPs are unaware and pushing the writers into different pacing, or just the entire VLD team throwing it all out the window. Or maybe just not doing a good job respecting the pattern.
If you’re not familiar with the core western storytelling arc, it goes roughly like this:
act I: ‘normal’, characters’ status quo
catalyst: turns normal world upside-down
act II: characters struggle/fail to keep up
mid-point: total loss, alternately, a false victory
act III: learn the lesson, get proactive, prepare
finale: defeat antagonist (tragedy: be defeated)
act IV: reset to normal, or enter new normal
(In a three-act structure, act two is twice as long as one and four, and contains #3, #4, and #5. I prefer four-act but it’s personal taste.)
For most American long-arc shows, this kind of arc will begin and end in a full season, with the denouement overlapping slightly with the ‘normal world’ that begins the next season. In a multi-season arc, it’s usually treated like the separate books of a series: each book has a complete arc, but when you look across them, you can see the full arc that links them together. (This is also why a middle-story in a trilogy will end either on a small victory with a backdrop of a larger defeat, or just feel generally unfinished somehow.)
Since S3/S4 was originally intended to be a complete season, I’ll treat it that way here. Behind the cut: breaking each season into act 1 + catalyst, act 2 + midpoint, act 3 + finale, and pacing within seasons, and the progress of an implied multi-season arc.
normal world + catalyst
S1E1, S2E1, and S3E1 each begin with the team divided in some way. In S1, half of them haven’t met before. S2, they’re all over the universe. S3, four are together, and the fifth is gone. That’s the ‘normal’ they start with.
The catalyst turns everything upside-down. The best catalysts appear to solve a problem, yet turn out to be a whole lot the characters didn’t bargain on.
In S1, Shiro’s return appears to promise resolution for Pidge’s and Keith’s searches -- which leads the team to find the Blue Lion, and the story kicks into gear. In S2, the catalyst is the healing pod putting Shiro back together -- but the result is memories of Ulaz, which drives most of S2. In S3, the catalyst is Black accepting Keith, which resolves the can’t-form-Voltron issue. Open question whether we’re supposed to see this as throwing the characters head-first into  situations they never expected.
learning + midpoint
The first-half of the middle (act two) is where the characters will mess up the most. They’re doing their best to learn without much clue of what they face.
In S1, they’ve gotta learn to form Voltron, learn to fight, hold off Sendak while keeping the team together, all the way up to Lance getting his lion stolen. In S2, their failures stem mostly from Zarkon’s tracking system. In S3, they’re dealing with new roles (with Lotor as highlight for the team’s fails).
The midpoint -- and yes, it’s almost always right around the halfway-point -- is the first chance for the character(s) to apply what they’ve learned. There’s two ways this usually goes: either they get their asses handed to them outright, or their apparent victory... was actually defeat, or a draw at best. It’s winning the battle but destroying your mecha along with your right arm, or thinking you’re about to strike the final blow but you’re playing into the antagonist’s plans, etc.
By that measure, S1′s midpoint should be Return to the Balmera, but is probably Crystal Venom, where the team barely pulls off a victory against the AI but loses Sendak’s intel in the process. S2′s midpoint is Space Mall, specifically Shiro’s showdown with Zarkon; an incomplete victory, it demonstrates Shiro isn’t quite ready to take Zarkon on. S3′s midpoint is a hollow victory: they can’t hold their own against Lotor’s team, and they barely eke out destroying the teludav.
The midpoint’s purpose is to demonstrate the characters haven’t had a clue what they’re up against. The antagonist is bigger, nastier, more powerful; it outranks and outflanks them at every turn, so it’s time to get proactive.
learning better + finale
From that midpoint to the finale, we should see the characters learning from that lesson. In S1, that midpoint comes awfully late in the game, so we really only get a single episode of proactive (find the space base) before we hit the finale. In S2, from the midpoint, the team makes allies, comes up with a plan, and gets the pieces together; structurally, S2 is a pretty solid arc.
And there’s S3. We get a flashback ep, followed by the team breaking apart (Keith’s departure), then another tangent for Pidge, then we get humor but no forward movement other than noting Zarkon’s banished Lotor, then an ep that’s filler, and then... a two-parter finale. If you buy the argument that S4E4 is being needed to gin up the populaces, then that and Pidge’s galra finder in S4E3 are probably the only proactive points.
Okay, so using beat sheets is kinda formulaic, but putting the ‘fun and games’ segment before the midpoint makes sense; it’s when the characters don’t realize the full enormity of what they face. So things can be a bit more lighthearted -- yet in S3 every episode that might qualify as lighthearted happens after they get totally played by Lotor.
Which incidentally makes Keith and his ‘we need to focus on Lotor’ the only proactive element. We get humorous, light episodes, while Keith’s offscreen trying to actually, y’know, move this story forward. And then whammo, finale.
pacing in-season
One of the harder parts in long-form writing has got to be that slog called the middle. Sure, you’ve got the midpoint in there, but getting to that (and recovering from it) can feel like it’s taking forever. The characters need to ramp up, but not so fast it’s unbelievable, and not so slow they're standing still.
One way to look at S1 is to say it’s dominated by a massively long pre-midpoint stretch. Lots of learning to do, after all. But alternately, we could say from S1E2 to S1E9 is actually an entire act (sans midpoint) that’s a try/fail cycle. It helps that each new threat is either unfamiliar (the robeasts) or taking advantage of existing weaknesses (Sendak, Rolo/Nyma). Each victory comes at a cost, or is barely won. For the first season in a multi-season arc, this works.
For S2, it’s pretty solid: team comes together, we have catalyst, we get 3 episodes of the team reacting more than acting, until Shiro’s breakthrough with the Black Lion. And then it’s total proactive from there to the big showdown.
S3 starts off promising: team is broken, catalyst brings them together, and they face an unfamiliar antagonist, which requires ramping up (again). We get an interlude for Shiro’s return, and we hit the midpoint...
And then it just stops. The second half of the arc -- the place where everyone should be saying, “we know what we’re up against, we need to ramp up so we’re prepared” -- is gone. The issue with nested and braided arcs is one-half of the problem, but this pacing is a significant other-half.
In other words, a story’s pacing at start is casual, after the catalyst it gets jogging, and the midpoint marks a sprint to the finish line. But in S3, we get the catalyst, and we’re immediately into a sprint; the midpoint is more of a draw, and then it’s a casual stroll for five episodes, followed by a mad dash for the finish line. No wonder some viewers got whiplash.
pacing across seasons
Across seasons, the arc is subtler, but it should still be there. Pretty sure VLD was originally meant for six seasons, so going by the usual proportions, Act 1 would be S1, Act 2 would be S2-S3 with midpoint as the finale of S3; Act 3 would be S4-S5, and we’d get S6 for the final showdown plus a few episodes for denouement, wrap-up, return to normal (or new normal).
Which... doesn’t work too well.
Where’s the catalyst at the end of S1? The team being split up? The realization that they can’t win without someone helping them? The catalyst is supposed to lock the characters into a new normal, and set them on a path towards the conclusion. In terms of impact on the story, Shiro’s disappearance at the end of S2 is far more of a major catalyst, overall.
Which is kinda the longest establishing ‘normal’ I can think of, across all the series and stories I’ve seen/read. Plus, both S1′s semi-failed escape and S2′s losing-Shiro would make great hollow victories -- okay, mark those down as try/fail (and therefore Act 2, post-catalyst). Yet the spot where we’d expect a midpoint defeat is -- at the end of S3/S4 -- actually a victory?
Here’s the problem: with Shiro’s disappearance coming so late in the game, it’s hard to tell whether this is meant as the catalyst at the end of Act 1, or as part of the try/fail of Act 2. And the difference between those two, in terms of story-impact, is massive.
Let’s take a really simple story to compare. Girl meets boy: catalyst. Girl tries to woo boy: Act 2; make sure to insert lots of ‘this is true love’ here so we have stakes. Girl loses boy: midpoint heartbreak. Girl works hard to win boy back: Act 3. Girl wins boy: finale. Now, imagine a story where all that happens, but at the midpoint, the girl decides to find someone else, instead.
Which you could do; I’ve read a few who’ve tried. But I have yet to see one actually succeed, because it requires they spend the first half of the overall arc convincing me that this is twu wuv, it’s worth the character chasing this goal so completely. And then the writer is gonna turn around and effectively say, actually, that wasn’t love at all, but this other one? This is the real love, this is what the character will chase. Totally for serious this time.
That’s why the pacing matters, because in one, the first boy is just part of the normal world, and is left behind; in the other, chasing a second boy completely undercuts the first half of the story. VLD practically hammered home a kind of OTP: ‘chosen ones’ and ‘bonded with lions’ and ‘immediately simpatico’ and all the hallmarks of that Act 2 establishment, post-catalyst, of true love. And the breakup (girl loses boy, Shiro disappears) is the midpoint.
But if Shiro being gone is supposed to be the catalyst (in the overall arc) -- then S1/S2 is the world we’ve left behind; the real story is about adjusting to this now upside-down world.
For comparison, note that Gandalf disappears at roughly the midpoint of LotR. The mines of Moria is a major turning point, and the result (safe passage) comes at a huge cost. Gandalf’s loss is felt keenly, but he is not left behind; he is very much part of this upside-world of the story. That’s part of why his return feels inevitable, and why he plays a major role in the finale.
VLD’s messy pacing has created an ambiguity that’s slamming up against viewers’ intuition, based on so many other stories. We need to know: catalyst or midpoint, or else we have no idea where the story’s at, what to expect, even what to feel, and the result is this strange uneasiness.

Summer is the season for travel. If you’ve been considering coming down (or up) to the Lone Star State, here are the best cities to visit in Texas based on the experiences of a Texan™!
Travel Reminders and Fun Texan Facts
Texas is very hot in the summer! It can get up to 110 degrees F depending on where you are. Make sure to bring plenty of sunscreen, shorts, tank tops, and sandals.
If you’re visiting in the winter, STILL PACK SHORTS! Our weather changes constantly and can’t make up its mind. One day it will be in the 30s and the next it will be in the 80s. In Texas, you’re never safe from the heat.
Texas used to be its own country! We were called The Republic of Texas and this lasted for about ten years. (But it still counts!)
Our flag can be flown at the same height as the U.S. flag because of this AND we have our own pledge of allegiance.
Pretty much all of Texas is a historic site.
We’re known for our Southern hospitality and friendliness, but if you’re LGBTQ+ be careful in small towns.
We have a lot of rednecks and cowboys. You will see a lot of trucks, camouflage, Stetson hats, cowboy boots, button up shirts, jeans, horses, cows, beer, etc.
Remember the Alamo.
Bluebonnet season is the best time to visit, but DON’T PICK THEM, IT’S ILLEGAL!
Finally, you HAVE to try some Southern country cooking, Tex-Mex, and of course, Whataburger. I suggest Babe’s, Texas Roadhouse, and Cracker Barrel.
1. San Antonio
San Antonio is known as “The River City.” Winding through the city is the San Antonio River, which has a lovely river walk that goes all throughout downtown. There are many incredible restaurants, bars, gift shops, stores, theaters, a mall, and more right on the river.
For history buffs, the city of San Antonio is built on the grounds of the Battle of the Alamo, which occurred in 1836. In Texas, we have a special saying, “Remember the Alamo!”, which is taught to Texas students as early as first grade. If you’re going to Texas, this is a necessary trip. The Alamo chapel that was fortified in this battle still stands today as a historical landmark dedicated to the hundreds of men who perished on those grounds. You may expect for this to be located outside of the city, however, downtown San Antonio was built AROUND the remains of the Alamo. As soon as you step out of Alamo Plaza, you’re back among the tourist traps, gift shops, and skyscrapers. Alternatively, don’t be surprised to see a 200-year-old chapel in the middle of the city as you drive through. The Alamo is one of several missions located in the area, so if you find this era interesting, you may want to check out the others!
For those who love a good scare, there are several haunted hotels and other locations around town. If you would like a ghost tour of the city, visit Sisters Grimm Tours and Gift Shop at Rivercenter Mall. Of note, the Menger Hotel is known as the most haunted hotel in Texas. The Menger opened its doors in 1859, 23 years after the Battle of the Alamo, and sits right next door to the old chapel. 32 ghosts have been confirmed at the Menger, most notably the ghost of Sallie White, a housekeeper who was murdered by her husband. The Emily Morgan hotel was previously a psych ward and is also known for being quite haunted. No one is allowed on the top floor because, as a tour guide once described to me, people have been “thrown off” by ghosts. You should also be prepared to watch your coats, as it is common for them to be thrown off of racks. Of course, since hundreds perished at the Alamo, you can expect your ghost tour guide to make a stop there.
2. Dallas/Fort Worth/Arlington
Even on road signs, Dallas and Fort Worth grouped together as “DFW.” Fort Worth is pretty much a smaller version of Dallas and is very close to its sister city. Arlington is nearby as well with unique attractions of its own, such as the original Six Flags and many shopping malls.
In all three cities, you’ll find great shopping centers and malls when you need some retail therapy. There are also several museums, from the incredible Perot Science Museum to the Dallas Holocaust Museum, to the Dallas Museum of Art.
In Dallas, I highly suggest checking out the food trucks in Klyde Warren Park. There are many delicious options that change throughout the year and there are many family-friendly activities to be found. Even if you just stop by for a quick lunch, this area is always pleasant. I also suggest stopping by La Madeleine at breakfast time for authentic French cuisine and Wild Salsa for authentic Mexican food. Besides restaurants, my best recommendations for Dallas are Dallas Summer Musicals and the Texas State Fair in the fall. They are in basically the same location and while they can be expensive at times, they’re definitely worth it.
In Fort Worth, make sure to check out the Water Gardens, the Kimbell Art Museum, and the Fort Worth Zoo. I’ve visited these attractions on many occasions with my school and they are all very enjoyable. In the spring, there is an amazing art festival called the Main Street Arts Festival. Booths are set up all along Main Street showing off works from both upcoming and world-renowned artists. The restaurants on Main are incredible, but so are the food booths at the end of the Festival grounds.
Arlington is the birthplace of the original Six Flags, Six Flags Over Texas. Six Flags gets its name from the fact that Texas has been under the rule of six different flags throughout its history, including Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the Confederacy, and of course, the United States. Six Flags Over Texas is a thrilling amusement park with breathtaking rides such as the famous Texas Giant, the Titan, Runaway Mountain, Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast, Batman the Ride, and Superman Tower of Power.
For sports fans, Arlington is home to the AT&T stadium where the Cowboys play, Globe Life Park where the Rangers play, and more. I highly suggest taking tours or going to a game if you can.
3. Austin (Texan Home Base)
Austin is the capital of Texas and was the capital of the Republic of Texas as well. Fair warning: the traffic is horrendous. However, Austin has many great attractions and historical sites that make it worth the trouble. (Plus, I was born here so it’s obviously great!)
One of the things Austin is known for that you may not have heard about is bats. Under and around Congress Bridge, there are over one MILLION bats waiting for the night. People flock to Austin to watch as they wake from their slumber and fly off into the night.
The Capital Building of Texas is open for touring and is a great place to learn about Texas history and government. Around that area, there are several other government buildings and historical landmarks as well, even from when Texas was its own country.
Nearby you can find the San Marcos and Guadalupe Rivers, which are well known and loved for being an incredible tubing spot. You can bring some friends or family and relax as you float gently down the rivers along with many other locals and tourists.
The University of Texas is one of the most prestigious universities in the U.S. For those that are checking out possible universities or those that love the atmosphere of a college campus, this is a wonderful place to be. UT is well known for sports as well, just in case you know any Longhorn fans.
Other unique attractions around Austin are Lake Travis Waterloo Adventures, Lady Bird Lake, Lake Travis Zip Lines, Austin Wine Tours, The Escape Game, and more. Austin’s motto is “Stay Weird,” so you’ll be able to find many quirky places to visit and enjoy.
4. Houston
Houston is the largest city in Texas and has many attractions to share with tourists. If you’re a fan of space or you’re one of those people that wear NASA shirts, Houston is where they train astronauts. You can tour Space Center Houston and the Johnson Space Center. While I’ve never been there myself, I’ve heard many great things.
If you love nature and science, check out the Houston Zoo, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the Downtown Aquarium, the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center, and the rest of the Museum District.
In Houston’s many parks and theaters, you can find endless live music and shows to entertain you during your visit. The theater district has a lot to offer and is a wonderful place to take family and friends. There are SEVERAL different art museums for those who appreciate it.
For history buffs, there are also many historic sites such as the Battleship Texas, the San Jacinto Museum of History, The Menil Collection, the Lone Star Flight Museum, Holocaust Museum Houston, and last and possibly the strangest, the National Museum of Funeral History.
5. Denton (AKA Mini Austin)
I will admit that I am biased towards Denton because I’m a Mean Green fan. However, Denton is genuinely a fun, lively, quirky place that deserves to be mentioned. There are two sides of Denton: the older part where The Square is, and the newer part with all the shopping centers and the mall
The Square is filled with locally owned shops, restaurants, and attractions. In the center, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Denton County courthouse. My favorite places are Recycled Books, which is in an old opera house, LSA Burgers, and Atomic Candy. It is also near the University of North Texas (#GoMeanGreen), Texas Women’s University, which has a gorgeous campus, and Fry Street, where you can find several karaoke bars and delicious hole-in-the-wall restaurants.
Because UNT is a well-known music school, Denton has an incredible music scene. At many places on The Square and even on campus, you can find live bands playing all the time. Also on the Square or in the park near TWU, there are several music and arts festivals for creative minds.
On the other side of Denton, you’ll find many different shopping centers and an indoor mall. Whatever you need or want, Denton will have it and at a better than bigger shopping cities like Frisco. Because many shops in Denton are locally owned, you can support local artists, cooks, and vendors by buying things that you love.
For those who love a good ghost story, Old Alton Bridge is on the border between Denton and Argyle. It was featured in an episode of Buzzfeed Unsolved and attracts many visitors at night. It is supposedly a favorite spot of Satanic cults and you will find many Satanic symbols on the bridge and in the surrounding forest. Many people claim to have seen a demonic Goatman, which is why the bridge is also called Goatman’s Bridge. Or, if you’re a Buzzfeed Unsolved fan, Shane’s Bridge. If you want to know whether or not the legends from locals are true, you’ll have to come out at night and find out yourself.
If you’re a sports fan, I highly suggest coming to see a UNT game at Apogee Stadium. UNT’s football team currently features Mason Fine who is rated as the 3rd best quarterback in the nation. He’s also up for the Heisman Trophy this year, and I’m very excited to see if he’ll win.
