ugh i just need her to curl up with a good book and music and a bowl of soup she deserves it

literally any kind of soup as long as its hot n served with some kinda bread

loves chicken noodle/irish stew/really heavy soups like that bc it reminds her of what her mom used to cook

also egg drop soup, oxtail, lanzhou beef noodles, all the stuff her dad used to make

give her a mug of chicken noodle and some sourdough and she’ll literally love you forever.

its canon from aurora rising that she likes spicy food so i know she loads allll her food up with spice

everyone’s learned to not ask for a bite of her soup if they dont need to give their sinuses a deep cleanse

ty was the first to learn the hard way, snuck a sip of her food secretly and 2 minutes later was curled up on the floor with a box of tissues and a jug of milk

that being said, he’s a sucker for a good sandwich

took him a while to get used to terran food but he is now a confirmed fan

with that being said he cannot cook

once set off the fire alarms across the entire academy after forgetting about a baguette he had toasting in the kitchen

i feel like he'd also be straegly obbsessed with random terran snacks like goldfish and graham crackers

is a FIEND for those yougurt chew things that are for babies

Okay I have this headcannon that mama Jones actually served in the Syldrathi Defense Force when Caerson was in charge of it and she left bc she had beef with Caerson and vice versa, to the point where it would be on sight if Caerson and her ever met up again. Like, it became such a well known grudge in Caerson’s circle that the Unbroken just knew if you met mama Jones it would be bad.

Anyway skip to after the series and Tydii are all very happy and loved up and then the squad is all together one day when Scar announces that she’s found their mum and turns her screen around to show everyone.

And everyone is very confused when Kal starts laughing so hard he can’t speak or breathe while Saedii looks vaguely horrified.

Kal is useless to explain bc he can’t stop laughing every time he looks at Saedii so eventually she has to explain this long winded history of conflict with the conclusion that her Be’shmai is the son of two of her father’s worst enemies

“I miss the stars,” Saedii says one day.

Ty blinks at her, standing frozen near the window, motionless under an inky expanse of sky. “What?”

“The stars.” She lifts a long finger to the glass, tracing some geometric pattern that he doesn’t recognize. “It’s easy to think of their movement as constant. As bejeweled fabric draped around a goddess, and civilization’s first stumbling steps lead it to look up and draw our patterns like we could ever hope to reach the same level of perfection. Like we deserve to paint over the cosmos, to shape it at our will just because we can.”

He sees her tense shoulders, the light in her eyes brooking no objection or clarification, and has nothing to say. “Are you okay? Saedii? What are you talking about?”

Saedii barely spares him a glance. “The lines my people drew in the stars. The stories we told with them. How many will forget, after we have lost our planet, the careful position the universe gave us that lets us see stellar patterns that no other world could?”

Tyler thinks for a moment, a tactician abruptly at a loss for tactics, for something to say, the right thing to say so that they can move into safer ground. “The view of the cosmos from Syldra? So many say it was spectacular.”

She wavers, slightly, at the past tense.

“I just guess I thought you’d decided it was a sacrifice that could be made. Something, something, a necessary loss for the furtherment of the Unbroken honor. A neridaa?”

Saedii moves, suddenly, whirling to face him. Tyler thinks irrationally of a panther, a leopard, a quick and silent death slipping through your window like a secret lover. “And what the fuck is a neridaa without a beginning, Tyler Jones? Without a creation from the destruction? For all the philosophical posturing of the Unbroken, what the fuck did they beget other than destruction and anger and sorrow? Don’t fucking answer me. I don’t want to hear your rationalizations or reasoning, or your careful religious sayings about something beautiful coming out of the darkness. There was already supposed to be a creation after Syldra was gone! I don’t want some damn platitudes about the good that we can make from this - I shouldn’t have to make any good at all! It’s supposed to be here!”

“I thought this was what you wanted.”

Almost as soon as the words are out of his mouth, Tyler knows he’s said the wrong thing. But Saedii shows no indication that she’s been affected at all by what he said, instead just rolling her eyes so hard he thinks they’ll drop out of her head. “How does it feel to be so socially perceptive, Tyler Jones? Yes, I did want this! I just wanted more after the devastation!”

“You want to know what I think?” He stands up, draws his shoulders back to match her height the best he can. “I think that no matter what anyone gave you, you wouldn’t be satisfied with it. No matter what I say here, no matter what reparations the governments figure out, no matter how successful New Syldra becomes. I think the problem isn’t in the scale of the creation, or the lack of one, at all! I just think you weren’t ready for that much destruction.”

All at once, Saedii’s posture slumps. She turns away from Tyler, blinking rapidly, and brings her hand up to the glass again. “I just miss the way the stars looked.”

He goes over to stand beside her, tentatively wrapping an arm around her waist. “Tell me about them, then. I promise that I, at least, won’t forget. Tell me about the pictures you saw from Syldra.”
