Here are some detail shots from the 1/72 scale U-Boat Build. The detail on this model is incredible… the only problem is it it taking so much time… but that is also a good thing. #modelbuilding #modelbuilder #modelbuilders #uboat #dasboat #crafting #craftingroom #photoetching #modelship #revellmodels #revell #makingstuff #scalemodels #scalemodeling #scalemodelship #ww2models https://www.instagram.com/p/CcNUqNoOuEd/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

e Royal Navy battle line during the Battle of Jutland. HMS Iron Duke in the foreground. Imagine being inside one of these iron behemoths, going about your duty. The ship blasting away with earth jarring and ear shattering force. You never know when an enemy shell could slam right through her, absolutely ruining your day! The nerves of those men... astonishing!

Sunday, March 15th, 1943 “There Goes Another Two” It’s not often we see a U-Boat victim in her death throes, but that’s what we have here today. This is the French steamer “SS Wyoming,” on her way to the bottom 96 miles north of the Azores. Running with Convoy UGS-6, she fell prey to U-524 (Type IXC). As you can see in the photo, the sinking occurs in relatively calm seas. Wonderfully, there is not a single fatality in her loss. All 127 crew and passengers are safely rescued by the venerable USS Champlin (DD-601, Bristol-Class) which sank U-130 with All Hands just three days prior on the 12th. A second attack occurs inside the Mediterranean, 64 miles northwest of Algiers. Convoy ET-14 is attacked by U-380 (VIIC). Her sole victim is the “SS Ocean Seaman,” (Photo 3, at her launching in Maine) an American-Built Liberty ship assigned to the British. She doesn’t sink, but she’s heavily damaged. She’s taken under tow to Algiers, where she’s declared a Total Loss. The ship may be gone, but her crew isn’t: in a miraculous repeat, she too suffers No Fatalities. All Hands, 59 men, are safe and sound. Another day comes to a bloodless end, at least for now… 🇺🇲🇺🇲 ** Please Like & Follow "Sandy Hook History" on Facebook & Instagram for more amazing maritime and military histories of the Garden State and New York Harbor as well as a review of the 80th Anniversary of the Battle Of The Atlantic and World War 2** 🇺🇲🇺🇲 Photos: uboat.net (all) #visitmonmouth #newjerseybuzz #thejournalnj #locallivingnj #journeythroughjersey #centraljerseyexists #discovernj #yesnj #newjerseyhistory #newjerseyforyou #sandyhookbeach #sandyhooknj #sandyhookhistory #forthancockhistory #forthancock #battleoftheatlantic #kriegsmarine #uboat #uboats #uboot #torpedoattack #convoybattle #wyoming #libertyship #steamer #steamship #allsafe #nocasualties #nofatalities #usschamplin (at Fort Hancock, New Jersey) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp0NkVDAspw/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

U-2540 (Wilhelm Bauer) U-2540 was a German Type XXI submarine commissioned by the Kriegsmarine in 1945, towards the end of World War II. After the war, it was seized by the British and later transferred to the Norwegian Navy, where it served until 1959. In 1960, U-2540 was sold to a private owner and used for civilian purposes before being retired and eventually restored as a museum exhibit in Germany. #ww2 #germany #germany🇩🇪 #uboat #U-2540 #kriegsmarine #worldwar2 #worldwar2history #navy #museum #submarine #thirdreichhistory #adolfhi̇tler https://www.instagram.com/p/Co4LGgstzst/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

3 FEBRUARY 1943 - FOUR CHAPLAINS DAY AND THE SINKING OF THE USAT DORCHESTER #WWII On 3 FEB 1943, the troop transport ship USAT Dorchester was sailing from Canada to a U.S. base in Greenland, carrying 902 passengers. Shortly after midnight, the vessel was struck by a U-Boat torpedo just 150 miles from its destination. The initial explosion killed and wounded scores of men, causing widespread pandemonium. Through the chaos, four Army Chaplains spread out among the Soldiers, calming the frightened, tending the wounded and guiding the disoriented toward safety. Lt. George Fox, a Methodist minister; Lt. Alexander Goode (PhD), a Reform rabbi; Lt. John Washington, a Roman Catholic priest; and Lt. Clark Poling, a Dutch Reformed minister, worked to manage the crisis, distributing life jackets and selflessly giving their own to others. As the ship went down, survivors in nearby rafts could see the chaplains, arms linked and braced against the slanting deck, as they offered prayers and sang hymns. Of the 902 men aboard the Dorchester, only 230 survived. The chaplains were posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, Purple Heart, and Four Chaplains Medal (a special decoration for extraordinary heroism designated by Congress to recognize the chaplains, as they did not qualify for the Medal of Honor). #Armyhistory #USArmy #TRADOC #WorldWar2 #WW2 #WW2History #UBoat #Chaplain #MilitaryHistory #ChaplainCorps Posted @withregram • @armyhistory https://www.instagram.com/p/CoM4R24uYeR/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
