so when you knocked on his door at 8am, bright and early, interrupting his much needed sleep…yeah, he wasn’t very happy

you just hand him the muffins, mumble a quick sorry and RUN

he only realizes how rude he was after he wakes up a second time, hours later, seeing the HOMEMADE muffins sitting on his counter with a little note

“welcome neighbor !!!! :)))”

oh my fucking god 😭 he just HAS to apologize

when he finds you (literally knocks on every door on your floor) he says he’s so very sorry and he’s speaking so fast it makes you giggle

“it’s okay, breathe!”

and he decides right then and there that he’ll make it up to you by taking you out for coffee 😋

studying at a coffee shop was the best thing ever for you

it made it easier to concentrate on your work, it smelled delicious, and the baristas knew you so they always gave you a little cake pop for free <3

you had been hard at work for hours :( poor baby, midterm season is ROUGH

deciding to take a break to rest your eyes from looking at your screen, and your hands from writing, you took a look around and spotted the most beautiful man you had ever seen in your entire life: lee minho !

his hands were full and he looked very annoyed and you thought "woah that's so much coffee!"

what you didn't know is that he had lost the rock, paper, scissors game for coffee duty <///3

and now he was a little (very) irritated carrying 8 cups of coffee

trying to balance 8 large iced americanos was kind of hard, especially in a crowded coffee shop in the middle of lunch rush

but he had everything under control !

until someone bumped into him while he walked past your table

suddenly there was coffee everywhere; on his shirt, on his face and hair, on your face and hair...and all over your table

thankfully, you had managed to pull your laptop away from the disaster before any coffee got on it

however...your review was all wet and messed up

your 6 page, hand-written review you had been working on for the past 4 hours

"holy shit, i'm so sorry-"

and then you were crying 🧍🏻‍♀️ he didn't know what to do

when you explained everything, he offered to rewrite the review for you 🥹

he took the soggy papers with him, then asked for your number (just to ask what he should write and give you the review, totally not because you were the cutest ever! )

he had been trying to beat his last pr but something felt…off

maybe he pulled a muscle while practicing choreography, or his new pre-workout never kicked in

whatever it was, his mind-muscle connection was off and it was beginning to frustrate him

he was so stiff and crampy and ready to go home after his barely-successful arm day >:(

he was angrily typing on his phone with one hand, complaining about his day to chan and holding a 40 pound dumbbell on the other

definitely not watching where he was going !

he walked right into a bench and hit his shin very hard ! ouchie !

which made him lose his grip on the dumbbell and he dropped it

so he apologizes (and keeps doing so as he carries you to his car so he can drive you to the hospital)

when you told him your roommates were out of town and you weren’t from the area, he offered to stay with you :(

and also offered to pay for any medical expenses

oh he just felt so bad 😞

but it’s okay! the doctor said it was a minor fracture that should heal up in no time !

and like…changbin made you laugh the entire time and he’s so kind and nice and pretty and buff…

perhaps you could forgive him for shattering your big toe! but just this once !

you just wanted a nice, peaceful day at the park

the weather was perfect for a picnic and a book and you just had to take the opportunity

a lot of other people had the same idea to visit the local park

hyunjin included! he wanted kkami to get some fresh air and to stretch his legs from being holed up in his art studio all day

everything was going perfectly fine

and then kkami managed to get out of his leash

chaos ensued; everyone could hear his dramatic ass screaming and chasing his little dog 😭

surprise! kkami ended up at your picnic bc he wanted to eat your snacks

“hello, sweet boy!”

he was so friendly, everything was going so well! you even offered him a strawberry

and then he peed on your book

and bit your finger 🧍🏻‍♀️

hyunjin gets there 30 seconds too late and now he has to apologize for kkami and his chihuahua-ness

“oh my fucking god, i’m so sorry, i don’t know why he would do that! are you okay!?”

PRISCILLA (2023)

~ my thoughts as an elvis fan

WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD:

so I saw it last night and I’ve been stewing on it ever since as I wanted to be 100% sure in myself before saying this publicly

**brace yourselves**

After just one viewing… I feel confident in saying that I preferred this film over “Elvis” 2022 🤧. It was just so immersive and so deeply intimate that I walked away from the theater feeling like I had just lived a life with Elvis, and experienced all the ugly and wonderful things that came with it

I am seeing it again tonight and possibly tomorrow just to recapture that feeling (which made me cry… three times…)

And although I’m not the biggest fan of Sofia Coppola, there is simply no denying that she has perfected showing “girlhood” in film, and making the most unique experiences, like being Marie Antoinette and being Priscilla Presley, somehow universal to everybody. I haven’t felt being “14” since I was 14, which was a whole 5 years ago, but WHEW… I most definitely felt 14 again when watching Priscilla navigate life in Germany

Also- we all saw how Austin Butler was completely cheated out of an Oscar and so I’m begging that we do not do that again. Give the Oscar to Cailee Spaeny (who played Priscilla) right now 😤 There are no words besides “immaculate” to describe her performance. Her future is so bright as an actress, I just cannot wait to follow her career + she just seems like the sweetest person ever??

And I know it might seem insane to say that I preferred “Priscilla” over “Elvis” and some of y’all might crucify me for that take but my preference solely comes down to the fact that I appreciate Priscilla’s perspective much more so than the Colonel’s, who to me, has always been the least interesting aspect of Elvis’ story

My biggest gripe with having the Colonel narrative/tell Elvis’ life in the 2022 film is the fact that it made the film feel rather impersonal to Elvis as I don’t think the script or the storytelling ever fully allowed for Austin Butler to explore what he was like beyond the stage

And personally speaking, I have a much deeper love for Elvis the person as opposed to Elvis the performer, and I think that “Priscilla” showed the human side of him far more than “Elvis” ever did (like y’all we actually get to hear and see him reading his philosophy books in this!!!)

But before I get into what was actually depicted in film, and all my praises, I thought I would briefly state what I thought could have been done better. Don’t get me wrong, this movie was beyond amazing, however, it was definitely not without its’ faults:

1. If you have seen a lot of reviewers talk negatively about the pacing in this film- just know that they are unfortunately, completely right in that assessment. The whole timeline of Germany felt literally five minutes long, and the 70s also, felt maybe 10 minutes long which just made both the beginning and end feel rather rushed. Also there were at least 5 scenes that just faded to black before going onto the next one, and some very abrupt cuts in scenes which felt a bit awkward

2. Because this is a biopic, and because it’s based on a real life, there is no climax like you would be accustomed to normally in a film and so I think that the average viewer, like someone who may not really care about Priscilla or Elvis, will probably walk away from the film feeling unsatisfied- possibly bored. I saw it with my mom and my sister, and my mom was asleep in like 45 minutes 😭. The movie definitely got repetitive at some points but I acknowledge the fact that life is repetitive, especially for Priscilla in the 60s while Elvis was off making movies

3. While Priscilla (played by Cailee Spaeny) aged realistically and seamlessly, Elvis (played by Jacob Elordi) was essentially the same person (physically) for 95% percent of the film. For some reason, his hair was already dyed black in the Germany scenes, although we know it was brown at that time, and so there was no real transformation for him until Lisa Marie is born. The height of the actor was definitely jarring at first but eventually I got used to it…however…I damn near busted out laughing when they showed him in the Comeback special outfit 💀 His performance was nothing but incredible (ESPECIALLY THE VOICE) and so I learned to get over the physical disparities rather quickly

4. The ending of this film, particularly the song, was overwhelmingly sad and impactful but I was really disappointed that we didn’t get to see Priscilla’s and Elvis’ relationship after the divorce. This film ends with Priscilla leaving Graceland, starting her “new life”, which didn’t make much sense to me considering this movie was adapted from her book, which very much explores that part of her life, especially with Elvis

I would have really love to seen moments like this from Priscilla’s perspective ⬇️

5. NO CIRCLE G RANCH!!! It is borderline criminal to make a film about Priscilla and Elvis and to not include their time spent at Circle G ranch ** which Priscilla has always said were their happiest times together **. I assume that this was likely an issue because of the budget and the fact that they only had 30 days to film but god… I would have really appreciated some of the domestic bliss that Priscilla and Elvis shared while living in the trailer on the ranch. There were many happy moments/sequences (y’all are going to die when you see the rollerblading/go cart scenes) in this movie, but I think their gradual separation/withdrawal from one another (post marriage) would have hit harder if we saw how happy they were together during their ranch phase

6. For those who have read “Elvis and Me”, we all know about the famed LSD scene that takes place and unfortunately, Coppola heavily missed the mark on it. We don’t see Lamar Fike making out with a tree, we don’t see Jerry Schilling in a closet- instead we see Priscilla and Elvis just kind of rolling around, laughing amongst themselves while the room around them turns different colors

There were definitely many key moments/stories like that missing from the film, and I honestly wish that the movie was an hour longer so that we could have seen the book more fully fleshed out

Lastly, here’s just a general synopsis of the scenes in Germany… I was going to do the whole movie but I don’t have the stamina to type it all out 😭. If y’all want to know something specific please feel free to comment below and I will let you know <3!!

After the beginning credits are shown, the film starts with Currie Grant (who was renamed as Terry West) approaching Priscilla in a diner, inviting her to a party at Elvis’ house. After talking with her parents and assuring them that Priscilla will be looked after by him and his wife, it cuts to her in the back of a car, on her way to meet Elvis. The scene is exactly like how it is in the book, Elvis asks her how old she is, he remarks that she is “just a baby” and so on- Elvis then plays “a Whole lotta shakin” at the piano and that is one of three musical performances we see from him

Priscilla is then re-invited by Currie aka Terry via Elvis to comeback to the house again. Elvis invites Priscilla up to his room, she looks around and sees letters from Anita Wood, and a poster of Bridgette Bardot just like in the book. After Elvis talks about Gladys and how he is still reeling over her death, and how lonely he has felt since then, they share their first kiss to the song “Crimson and Clovers”

There are some scenes of Priscilla at school and some scenes of her sort of convincing her parents to let her continue to see Elvis. And they do agree, but just like in the book, they want to meet him first. Elvis is questioned by Priscilla’s father on why he wants to be with her to which Elvis replies that she is very mature for her age and that he likes talking to her since she is from home aka the United States. He then assures Priscilla’s father that she will be taken care of. After that we see them going to the movies where Elvis expresses how much he wants to be a serious actor, and then they share another kiss on the car ride home. It then cuts to Christmas time where we see Elvis giving Priscilla a watch and then BOOM- Elvis and her are on the way to the airport where they say their final goodbyes as he leaves for the United States

The film really does follow closely to the book (at least from 59’ when they meet to 69’- again the 70s were really rushed) and so I really recommended to read that prior to watching the movie

As for the more sensitive scenes-

There is no explicit sex, no graphic nudity, and no scene where Elvis forces himself upon Priscilla. He does say “this is how a real man makes love to his woman” but all he does is kiss her before she pushes him off. There is a rather long “polaroid-taking” sequence where it shows all the outfits that Elvis would Priscilla dress up in but other than that, we only see Elvis and Priscilla make out

And it did show when Elvis accidentally hit Priscilla in the eye during the pillow fight scene in her book, along with the scene of him throwing a chair in her general direction after she expressed she didn’t like a demo of one his songs, and the scene where he grabs all her clothes from the closet and tells her that she should go visit her parents. I don’t think that the scenes made Elvis look abusive: Coppola was surprisingly nuanced in showing that he had reasons for his sometimes bad temperament i.e the pills he took along with the fact that he was frustrated with his film career

It also shows Elvis’ infidelities but really only through movie magazines that Priscilla sees. So it’s never explicitly shown, I would say it’s more hinted at than anything

And there are two scenes of Priscilla with Mike Stone but again, nothing that is explicitly shown, it’s just hinted at

On a similar note, psalm 40:2 is a great pre-series Dean, future-Cas fic. I am a bi Dean believer but this fic did sway me toward the gay Dean camp because it’s simply so good.

On a different note, this is one of my favorite Claire fics. It looks at Claire’s relationship with Cas and the impossibility of it, and it’s so artfully done.

Bus Loop Madness by batz_in_blue

Literally just a “what if everyone lived, Jack was a toddler, and they all picked him up from school?” AU. I audibly laughed while reading this, and it’s an essential pick-me-up from the heavier fics.

More of my favorite sobsicles fics include: gorging myself on you, still can’t get full (insatiable), and he’s back (with a mind of his own), six hundred sundays (and many more), oh sooner or later it all comes down to faith, things happen (they do, they do, and they do), according to all known laws of life, and profoundly bonded (by law)

Also, honorable mentions to Ninety One Whiskey, which is such a good fic, and Make a Believer Outta Me, which is a Hocus Pocus AU that is honestly just a fun time.

Hello, darling! Sorry for the wait, I’m trying to keep from overworking myself bc of burnout, but I loved writing this one and I genuinely hope you like it too. Thank you very much for your words and your patience.

In this one reader is a teacher at Nevermore, helping organize the Rave’N while mediating the writing club discussions at their meetings and covering for a pregnant teacher for some time. They feel exhausted but won’t talk to anyone about it until Larissa catches them ugly crying in their classroom. Comfort ensues.

Word count: <1k

Everything was fine. Really, you could do it. The Rave'N was at the next weekend, the writing club had two meetings until then to discuss the portrayal of obsession in dark academia culture and come up with a short story exemplifying their points, and you had three extra periods a day to supervise math class while Desdemona was on maternity leave.

You could do it! And you would.

That was until you couldn't anymore and suddenly you had three more days to go til the Rave'N and you hadn't graded the last projects your students turned in, or wrote your semiannual review, or compiled your student's results to show Larissa, or bought a dress.

You had thirty minutes until seven; maybe you could lean on the desk and rest a bit. But you didn't lean on it. Instead, you turned into a ball in your uncomfortable chair, hugging your knees and trying with all you had not to panic, or worse, cry. You were in your classroom, chances were that someone could listen.

In the end, you didn't have much of a choice, really. The tension had to go somewhere because your body physically could not handle it anymore. Your cry wasn't elegant, you had no capacity of being graceful about it; not when you bottled it up for so long, as you usually did. You were loud and ugly, and your sobs could probably be heard from the corridor, but now it started you weren't able to stop. You thought you would probably not be done by the time you had to leave for dinner.

After a few minutes, maybe fifteen or twenty, someone knocked at the door. You choked and coughed trying to stop before they'd enter, cleaning the tears and water licking from your nose in the sleeves of your burgundy jumper.

"Dear? Is everything alright?" it was Larissa, her soft, concerned voice filling the poorly lit room.

You didn't respond, worried your voice would betray you, but the silence didn't help much as well.

Larissa walked up to your desk and saw your reddened puffy face, your hair could not be looking good as well and you just wanted to disappear.

"I don't think I'll be able to turn in the test results until Monday," you said in a flat tone, not emotionally capable of conveying anything in your speech.

"Oh, my love, what happened?" she completely ignored your comment and went to hug you in the chair.

You were still gripping your legs to your chest, but she covered you anyway, her mouth resting atop your head while she breathed you in. You felt pathetic for the peace it brought you.

She didn't ask anything more for a while, simply rubbing your back and kissing your hair and forehead. When you felt sedated enough not to cry again, you spoke.

"I think I took on too much"

"Really? Do you think that?" she asked with good humour, but it wasn't insensitive, she sounded exasperatingly caring.

"I just really love the kids in the writing club, and I couldn't let Des down…" you buried your face in her chest, letting your legs fall "And we had discussed the Rave'N at the beginning of the term, I didn't want to disappoint you."

She laughed softly, kneeling beside you to look at your face.

"You would not disappoint me for taking care of yourself. I shouldn't have let you continue with all the things you were doing"

"I just wanted to be good" you averted your gaze towards your hands in your lap, toying with your fingers for something to do.

"I think you are amazing just for trying," Larissa's hands came to rest atop yours, urging you to calm "And the fact that you failed is inconsequential. You did wonderfully at everything and you did it alone, but now it's time for some help. I'll ask Vlad to cover for Desdemona and the Titania Hall girls to help with the Rave'N's decorations. How does that sound?"

"Sounds good…" you dipped timidly without looking at her.

"Then it's done, my sweet little doll" she reached for your face to kiss you chastely "Now how about we eat dinner in my room?"

You only nodded, brushing your noses together. She was so close you couldn't help but feel safe. Then she stood up, holding your hands to encourage you up with her, and you left quietly.

My Friendly Neighborhood Review

Hey Kids! Do you want a mascot horror game that's actually good? Do you want to shoot and watch puppets fly across the room in funny ways? Or do you want to play a game that breaks you to the point of ugly crying due to the messages about selfishness versus selflessness, the trauma of war, grief, depression, death, and depending on which ending you decide, make you feel miserable or hopeful? (Boy, what I wrote there got dark!) Then you should play My Friendly Neighborhood!!!

July 8, 1993, in a very unfriendly city where the citizens that were emotionally affected by the war that lasted for twenty years by watching it from their TV sets (An in-universe version of the Vietnam War in this game), an old studio's antenna starts up playing a canceled kids show that's the in-universe version of Sesame Street, My Friendly Neighborhood, over the news. You play as repair crewman Gordon O'Brian was forcibly sent by his employer, Sprocket Palm Property Management, and their clients, City Network Broadcasting Group, to shut down the antenna at the top of the abandoned studio's hotel. Failure to do so, Gordon, due to his terrible, mean, and rude behavior, would result in getting fired. Upon getting there, SURPRISE, The Puppets Are Alive That A Lot Of Them Want To Hug You To Death!!! Along the way, Ricky the Sock Puppet guides Gordon throughout the studio trying to convince him not to disconnect the antenna. Can Gordon survive the night at the studio as he tries to find a way up to the antenna? Or will Gordon be trapped in the studio forever?

Pros... There's a lot! I can list them all day! The game is a love letter to tv shows and movies made by the Jim Henson Company over the years. The shows and movies had different names to prevent copyright claims in the game's universe. The cute factor is that you'll get attached to Ricky the Sock Puppet. He's like if Scout Prime from Hello Puppets was similar to Kermit the Frog and doesn't curse. If you're thinking, wait Hello Puppets already did possess murder puppets, that seems repetitive! Actually, the puppets aren't possessed. I'm wondering if the creators are saving a twist for another game. (Please let it be Gordon, Ricky, and the Neighborhood characters versus the villains from the in-universe The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth movies after they fell for a trap they thought was a movie deal!) I won't dive into details in this review. Let's say you have to think on your own about what's really happening here. I think for a horror game to do that was refreshing. What you might have fun with in this game is the clever ideas and designs of the weapons you find, the Rolodex and the Novelist being two of them, and the puzzles you come across along the way. However, the best part of the game has to be the writing since it takes a survival horror game and turns it into a dark comedy that would make Mel Brooks proud. If you're a completionist and you finish the game, don't leave! There's More! There are 'secret tapes' scattered around the studio, and once you finish the game, they will unlock cheats and mods to create some interesting experiences the next time you play.

There aren't many cons to this game. Something was happening with the maps, but that was fixed, thankfully. If I have some things I have to nitpick, first, this game has a lot of backtracking to other levels that many would find annoying. However, you'll make discoveries along the way. Just get ready if the previous levels you have been through get harder as more puppets appear. Second, you need to be ready to conserve your ammunition. Once it's gone and used, it's GONE, and your left with the wrench. So plan ahead, or you're dead in the finale! For beginners, this game may take hours or days to beat unless you got the patience to win. As the game continues, some of the puzzles will get harder and leave you scratching your head for a while. There have also been some complaints that the game should be considered a horror game at times, even though there are terrifying moments. Especially in the climax and ending that would leave you shaking unless you wished for more from that. So the cute factor in the game may turn off some who want something darker than this. Yet, if you read carefully the files you collect, you'll discover where the true darkness lurks in this game.

I may need to warn you of potential spoilers to some trigger warnings of war, depression, and references to taking away your own life. In a game about fighting murder puppets, the game does a shockingly good job tackling war trauma not just for the victims and soldiers but also for the citizens back on the homefront, where many viewed the soldiers as villains and getting exposed to the war on their home televisions. Because of that, the citizens in the city were traumatized and depressed by it. Even one worker at the studio wrote about "going into the light". I got a theory as to what happened to them. Something I noticed at the beginning makes sense now when reading those notes.

So there are multiple endings in the game. One is the true ending. Whichever ending you get, get your tissues ready. You might cry ugly tears of joy. Overall, spending money on this game is worth it! Even if you don't have the money, watch your favorite Gaming YouTubers and watch the game as a movie experience. It's not perfect, but it's rightfully up there, along with that antenna. This game may not be for everyone, but if you're a fan of Resident Evil (which I should start watching more gameplay of the game series if able, to be honest), you grew up with Sesame Street and the Muppets, you're a big Jim Henson Company nerd, you like puppets, you're a fan of Hello Puppets and Welcome Home, and you love film noir, this game is for you. So get it while it's still on sale, grab a buddy or two, and get learning in your favorite friendly neighborhood!

I would give this game a 9/10 for Ricky being adorable and Gordon getting some needed sleep.

Thoughts on writing and poetry from one of my favourite contemporary poets Jaclyn Desforges

I won’t speak for other lit scenes but in Canada the chronic fear of being blunt and therefore incredibly vulnerable is a bane on our poetry. Everyone feels they must be coy or emotionally removed or hyper intellectual and it, to my mind, results in bad poetry.

Fear of being direct, of being blunt and, perhaps, ugly, of saying what we mean—all of that makes for bad writers.

And gods know I suffer from the same knee jerk reaction of wanting To Be Poetic and To Be Intellectual and Smart in my writing and in doing so forget what I’m writing about

I remember talking to a poet, brilliant brilliant woman, Robin Richardson, and she asked me “tell me exactly what this poem is about in plain language” and I did—step mom stuff, childhood trauma stuff—and I was having that Voice Cracking Looking At Ceiling So I Don’t Cry moment

And the poet said, “your poem needs that in-your-face pain. It needs to be a hurt seven year old. Are hurt seven year olds coy and overly poetic? No, they’re blunt. Try that and see how you go”

And of course this doesn’t mean you don’t use imagery or metaphor or things like that—but at the core you can’t be afraid of ugliness and bluntness

TharnType Episode 2

I received a lot of feedback asking me to not stop these reviews. I'm not shying away from the ugly or the toxic guys. I'm facing them head on and recognizing them, but that doesn't mean I can't still love the characters and their story. To quote @idlebeks "Toxic characters have an important place in fiction. They can act as vehicles of catharsis and self-examination" And there is nothing wrong with enjoying the show as you make these revelations. It's actually what makes these self revelations easier to take in.

So we left off with Tharn having crossed the line, but we cheered, cause revenge. And who hasn't wanted revenge? In the cold light of morning, we laugh because Type squeezes the shoulder as if it's a boob, but we have to admit this feels awkward. Not gonna lie, the first time I saw this, I laughed. But the look of horror and remembering he is an SA had me throw up. How conflicting is that! As an SA, I'm programmed to want revenge, but seeing the revenge on an SA has me pausing and stepping back.

Type pulls the blanket over his head and there is this need to laugh. Because a grown boy is hiding. But that grown boy has reverted back to the past when he was a boy with no way to fight and could only hide. Tharn calls him a coward. This is why Type is hypermasculine because anytime weakness is show it's used against him. Remember how Techno said that he was made fun of and asked if he'd been molested. Any time Type shows weakness, it's used. It's just like earlier this week, I was told anon that I wasn't really a survivor, they were trying to exploit what they perceived as a weakness. But I'm a survivor, not a victim, so I'm hella harder to hurt. Type is still a victim and his weaknesses are being exploited.

Tharn asks Type if he is crying, and Type says no and gets aggressive. He's putting that armor on. You can see that Tharn is feeling bad about what he did. We get some humor to combat all these emotions, and it really does help us to kind of take a break and breath. It's the humor of his butt hurting from falling off the bed to finding the hickeys.

I love the conversation between Techno and Type. Type is pissed because Techno left him, and honestly, I think that's valid. But Techno says, and I quote, "Stop right there! This whole thing is your fault. You got yourself drunk when you knew exactly who you were with." but I've never heard this part brought up and talked about. Most likely because Type is a male and not female. In Techno's book, he gets drunk, and he has sex with Kla, Kla being completely sober and taking advantage of Techno's drunken state. Afterward, Techno feels responsible and later Type will say, "How did this happen. I made sure you were safe and in your house." Type is with Tharn when Techno's book is written, but that moment had a significance to Type. He made sure to try and keep Techno from having the same experience as him.

But when he finds out that in Techno's drunken state, he crawled into the wrong bed. He repeats Techno's words back to him. Are you seeing the multifaucet of the author? This lets us know a few things, that this is likely a common thought process in Thailand. But she switched the script, making the person male, and few people caught and noticed. Then she went on to take revenge on the person who said this, and everyone was mad because they love Techno and things like this shouldn't happen. But they didn't originally feel that way when it was Type. I fucking love how deep MAME takes her books.

Type suddenly doesn't want to switch rooms. He has unfinished business with his roommate. Is it true, or is he feeling a draw? There is a thin line between love and hate sometimes. And we have another victim, and we see how differently two SA survivors can be. One putting on an armor of hate and the other hiding from the world, afraid.

Tharn starting to feel guilty. We see it in his long puppy dog face. Then Type eats his snacks. "I ate it. So what." We see Tharn bitch about this but then smile at the sticky note and keep it. This indicates that he intended for Type to eat the snacks. Was it to help with his guilt, or because he too is feeling a pull that he'd much rather deny?

The whole porn group chat was hilarious. I also like how all the girls were like ew, like girls don't like porn. To be fair, I hate porn, for very personal reasons, but I do like the porn from these shows. It's the romance, romance changes the whole dialect. Anyway, he's got his tissue box and is ready to go to town. And then the getting caught. Legendary. It's like that horrifying moment when you lose your bikini bottoms in the water and come up mooning everybody.

The next part literally had me leaning over and being sick, but let's talk about it. Type pushed too far and pushed Tharn into an anger that he couldn't come back from. Remember how I said hate can push people to do ugly acts. Type is strong, but right now his brain has him in two places at once and is telling him that he has the strength of that kid. You know why elephants can be held tied by just one rope on the foot? Because as a baby they tried and tried to break that rope and couldn't. Their spirit was broken, and now the grown adult elephant believes himself weak. Type can be brutal when faced with verbal attacks, but physical attacks take him back to being a boy and weak. It freezes him, and it's very hard to break free from. Are you guys starting to see why I say that MAME knows too much about victims and survivors. How many of you who aren't survivors understood any of this prior to my review?

Now that, I've been sick about three times. So Type is about to spiral into self-hate. "Why am I so weak, how could I let this happen again, why didn't I fight harder, why am I weak. Did this happen because I deserved it." Yeah, pretty nasty verbiage that goes on in our heads. This is why therapy is a fucking must. I also want to talk about if you were unbothered by that scene, and you are a survivor. It doesn't matter how you reacted to that scene, we all handle our survival differently. You don't go around hurting people. Let yourself off the hook for how your brain chooses to cope.

Tharn is finally starting to think. Flashing back and putting some things together. Notice he doesn't talk to his bestie the way Type talks to his. That suggest that on some level, Tharn knew not to trust him. After the flashback, Tharn decides not to stay to eat. We then see Type tossing and turning in bed. He's having PTSD nightmares. Actually, nightmares are one of the primary symptoms that help to achieve the diagnosis of PTSD, because they aren't just regular nightmares. They lock you into place. When it comes to PTSD nightmares, what you dream can be just as terrifying as the original event.

Tharn walks in on the nightmare. He is very lucky he was not hurt. In a dream state, we will fight back. I have punched my husband. I'm not kidding, I've really hurt my husband when I've been in the throes of a PTSD nightmare. Comfort is a necessity and something that Tharn freely gives. I'm gonna be honest. The slap was expected for me. Imagine waking up from a living nightmare and seeing the person responsible for you going back to that. "What the hell was that for? I helped wake you up!" Why do people incite a riot and then get mad when you riot? Neither one of them are guiltless. Which is why they are actually very perfect for each other.

See how hard Tharn verbally hits, "I was kind enough to help a grown man who is afraid of nightmares." He let his anger take over and allows him to say ugly things. That's the point, neither person is fully good or fully bad, but they are controlled by their extreme emotions. It's leading them to be people that neither one wants to be. "I'm not afraid of nightmares. Back off if you don't know anything." Tharn softly asks, "then what are you afraid of?" but Type is hurt, and he'll put on his armor of anger. "Nothing! I'm not afraid of anything." That hypermasculinity to hide that he has any weaknesses. Tharn once again soft but then his voice raises in the end with his frustration, "do you expect me to believe that when you are trembling and crying. Stop being cocky." Completely unaware that he couldn't have said anything worse. They've both vicious cycle hurt each other with words, not yet willing to look at the other person's pain.

Fuck me guys! Do you really not see the beauty in this show? Type begins crying and holding himself. Doing self soothing gestures as he says, "I didn't ask for help." I'm not weak, I didn't ask for help. Therapy, people, therapy is the only way through this. We all wish there was a magical dick or pussy that can cure us. That's in part why we love this show, but it really can't.

We see Tharn looking into the mirror and the mix of emotions. A lot of times mirrors in art are used to reflect truths because mirrors can't tell a lie. The idea is that mirrors reflect a hidden truth, perhaps a window, a more realistic version of ourselves. The image that appears in a mirror can be thought of as being more revealing than surface appearance.

The stress has caused Type to become sick. Which happens, you have an anxiety attack with PTSD, it's like having a heart attack and can cause your body to overload. So yes, it is a real thing to stress yourself into being sick.

Techno calls a moody and sad puppy, Tharn, over to ask if Type is badly sick. Tharn offers to check on Type and steals the porridge from Techno. At this point, I think we can all safely assume that Tharn is gone on Type. Type is an asshole sure but before the whole gay reveal, they got along, they matched well. Then add in the fact that there are all these strong emotions flying around. Attractions were bound to happen, but Tharn is also a caretaker and Type is in need of caring. There are people who are naturally drawn to co-dependency.

Tharn takes care of Type as he has a fever and seeing the puppy dog Type does him in. You can see it happening. He started to feel the attraction at the soft and vulnerable Type, even if he doesn't want to admit it, and seeing it while he is sick is making the attraction stronger. Here is the thing. Type needs this. Type left the Island and his parents to get away. Whose really taken care of him? He clearly hasn't had therapy. He is starved for real love and affection, but he is too afraid of being called weak. They honestly are brilliantly imperfectly perfect for each other. And that's all us survivors want, we want someone to get past our walls and love us despite the ever present thorns.

Techno says it best when he agrees to not tell Type about Tharn nursing. "You two are equally weird." Type keeps questioning who cared for him because he is extremely smart. In the book this is brought up a lot, he is book and street smart. He knows it wasn't Techno that took care of him. Type pretends to be asleep when Tharn checks him for a fever, and Tharn calls him on it. Again, we get that comic relief. When things are too tense, we get something to help us take a moment.

Did you happen to notice them talk about Kla in the part where Techno and Type are playing video games. Techno's brother comes in with snacks from Kla who got them in Japan, and he hands the whole bag to Techno. Now if your best friend gave you snack from Japan, you just gonna give them away to your brother? Well yes, if your said best friend tells you to because he has a massive crush on your said brother. You guys think Type is bad, Kla is bad. Kla don't give a shit about nobody but Techno. He will use and abuse for Techno's attention. The only thing that keeps him in check is Type and his fear of him.

Techno is not as innocent as you guys think. He purposely lets slip that Tharn took care of him to Type. Remember me saying that Techno is the neutralizer here. That you get the truth from him. Three sides to everything, well Techno is the third as the truth. He tells Type, "Why didn't you realize it was the person you hate, your enemy, that cared for you because you know that's not me." Basically telling Type how great Tharn his and that he was well aware that it was Tharn that took care of him, but he didn't want to admit it. "If it had been me, you would have ended up in the hospital. Tharn is the right guy for this kind of stuff." He is telling us that Tharn is a caretaker.

One act of kindness did what anger could not do. It got through. Is Type a completely changed or better person. Not yet, but that true act of kindness created a crack. Where anger and hatred just created more divide. There are reasons why you can't match hatred with hatred. Story time. I grew up with someone who would later be an infamous killer, I won't say who, otherwise it will lead you right to where I live. Suffice it to say when I found out he had been executed, I cried like a fucking baby. And guys, I don't cry. But this person who had hurt, so many, was one of the few people to treat me with incredible kindness when I was harassed in school. Maybe if more people had shown him kindness, like he had shown me. Then maybe we both could have been saved. When the urge to hate happens. I think of that. I don't know what someone else is going through or what burden they are carrying, and could my one act of kindness to their hate be the ripple effect.

I sometimes debate on if I get to person. I do it because for me this is part live journal and writing. When I write a review, I'm honestly not trying to write for the audience as much as I'm trying to just convey my feelings. Which is why this got so freaking long. I'm kind of horrified at how long this got. Think I might go hide myself in music. So sorry about that, but hopefully you guys enjoy some of it. Thank You 💜💜💜

"Again."

Charles' hands were shaking. He cut along the dead man's arm this time, trying to get his line shallow, precise and even. The trembling made it impossible, though, and he once again ended up with an irregular, ugly gash, penetrating the flesh too deeply. He was sure he had pierced an artery.

"Again, Charles Henri."

His father's voice made him almost recoil. He felt like he was going to puke, cutting up a corpse like this, but he did not dare question his father. He knew it was surely illegal, but he pressed the scalpel against the man nonetheless, making another wound. Almost straight, this time. Deep, but not as deep as to reach past muscle. He turned to his father for approval.

The boy was ashy in the face, and he presented a truly pathetic sight. Wide, slightly teary eyes, shaky legs and horrible posture, and his medical mask digging into his lower lash line.

"Good. Let's get you some water.", replied Jean swiftly, as he always did. In all honesty, he wanted Charles to do way better. Neurosurgeons' hands don't shake and their cuts can't be ragged or imprecise, for it would kill the patient on the spot. He wouldn't say it out loud, but he found his son spoiled and unfit for the work. He only took pity today because the kid looked like he was about to throw up at any moment, but he swore to not be so merciful next time. They wouldn't leave until he gets it right.

Charles couldn't stop dwelling on his own failure the entire way home. They drove with Jean's second, less expensive car as to not be recognized. Charles wasn't a medical student yet, after all, and it was only because of Jean's position in the hospital that they could practice so early on a real body. He was supposed to be thankful to his dad, but he wasn't. He beat himself up mentally for that too, of course, but he hated anatomy lessons and the smell of rot. Unlike his older sister Claude, who was going to university next year and was sure to succeed in being a cardiologist. Ironically, their father was more invested in her marriage and Chalres' career, despite him being such a pathetic piece of worthless, constantly failing, stupid, disgusting...

At home, after meticulously washing his hands, he locked himself in his room immediately. He wanted to cry on the floor for a bit, but he knew he had school, violin practice and had to babysit Marie tomorrow, so he opted for texting his best friend. He really had no time to spare and only one friend, but it was better than nothing.

My Chain Of Thorns Review

After six months I finally managed to finish Chain Of Thorns. I started in February, had many interruptions and finally finished this book.

I'm a little disappointed. Chain Of Iron ended so well, I was so excited to see what would happen next and it was just disappointing. Over 300 pages almost nothing happened except the love drama triangle between Matthew, James and Cordelia. It was frustrating.

But halfway through the book I started to enjoy reading again. The emotions were so good that I had to cry all the time myself. And I liked the friendships so much. And I love Grace

Now begins the actual review

Matthew Fairchild and Cordelia Carstairs:

The whole Paris storyline was just weird, wrong and terrible. Yes, at first I thought it was really cute how Matthew took care of Cordelia. He tried as best he could to distract her from James. But Matthew was just a creep. I'm sorry but he was so obviously hitting on Cordelia it was disgusting. And he promised her he wouldn't. Matthew lied about his sobriety the whole time. He lied to Cordelia's face. That made Matthew very unlikeable to me. And the fact that they were kissing was so obvious, but James catching them I thought was kind of funny. But I liked that Cordelia after some back and forth finally told Matthew that she feels no love for him.

James Herondale and Cordelia Carstairs

Let's stay right with Cordelia and James. The two of them drove me to despair. In the first two books I could still handle it, but in ChoT was really just annoying. It really bugged me that they both couldn't talk to each other! They had had the opportunity and several times but they never took that opportunity! And it was all because of Grace and the bracelet. And quite ironic that Grace had told Cordelia the whole truth, which James was incapable of doing. Thanks Grace! But I'm really glad that these two have found their way to each other now and that they are going to be happy together. And it was really hot when James shot open the bedroom door and ripped Cordelia's dress.

Lucie Herondale and Jesse Blackthorn

What can I say about them? Except that I love them more and more. How they took care of each other, they dealt with their little problems together and they argued quite rarely. When they did argue, they settled the argument very quickly. Lucie and Jesse proved again that they are the purest couple in the entire book series. And I am so happy for them that they now have a future together

Anna Lightwood and Ari Bridgestock

If any couple had the best development, it's these two. They broke up ugly in Chain Of Iron, both were heartbroken. But when Ari was in need, fleeing her parents' home, Anna was there for her without hesitation. It was so nice to see Anna allowing Ari's love more and more, and that in the final battle Anna confessed to Ari that she didn't want Ari to leave. And it had been so beautiful when they danced together at the Christmas party. And I don't know why but those two give me sizzy vibes

Thomas Lightwood and Alastair Carstairs

These two have been carrying this book on their backs! No couple has frustrated me as much but also made me laugh as much as these two idiots. I always thought Cordelia and James were queen and king of miscommunication but Alastair and Thomas knocked them off their throne. But the funniest thing was, one of the first fire messages Thomas sent to Alastair. It made me laugh so hard. And finally Alastair realized he deserved love too. And Thomas was such a cute idiot in love, he likes to forget his shoes when he meets with Alastair. And when the institute was attacked by Tatiana, they almost slept together. In a carriage. I love them both and I am so happy that they can live together now.

Grace Blackthorn and Christopher Lightwood

I will never forgive Cassie for killing Christopher. Grace and Christopher were so cute together, they understood each other. And the most beautiful thing was that even though Christopher knew what Grace did, he didn't judge her. He still saw the good in her. And they definitely would have made one of the greatest couples TSC has ever had. It's not confirmed in the book, but I think they both loved each other very much. But when Christopher's ghost showed up at Grace's lab, it made me cry. It was so heartbreaking. I think I felt for Grace and Christopher the most. It was so nice that Christopher celebrated Christmas with Grave. That warmed my heart a lot.

Things I didn't like:

James and Matthew fight over Cordelia as if she were some toy

Cordelia, who puts herself too much in the victim role and blames everyone for everything

Cordelia and Lucie's fight. They argued so much that Cordelia made Lucie cry

The whole Paris storyline

That James did not manage to tell Cordelia the truth

Christopher's death that was just unnecessary

That over 300 pages nothing happened

The character development of Cordelia. She was annoying at the beginning until the middle of the book.

Tatiana, who crashed into the Christmas party and outed Tessa as Belial's daughter

That Grace became a part of the group and managed to complete the invention of fire messages

Every moment with Thomastair, AnnaAri, Gracestopher and Ghostwriter

i.e Marinette has three "who am I, how can I become who I really be" songs when all of her internal conflict is due to her falling randomly at times, which makes a very poor (but also the only one) character arc

i.e there are seven songs in an one hour and a half long movie

i.e those songs stop the action to make us listen to lame ass lyrics (at least in French)

if i took a shot each time a song by Marinette mentioned "être moi" (being me) or each time Ladybug and Chat Noir repeated "Plus forts ensemble" (stronger together) I'd be in ER

because the original show didn't have any catchphrase at all isn't it

since the songs are stopping the movie every time they happen, there's no time for character development so

no umbrella scene

no Adrien character development whatsoever

no justification for Marinette preferring Adrien to Chat Noir

no justification of why Adrien was chosen as a holder

Are you named after anyone?  My parents only called me that because it wasn't a popular name in the 90s

When was the last time you cried?  In February, when my friend left. In fact, I cry very rarely because I have problems with experiencing deep emotions. When I really cried, it was probably February\March of last year. For obvious reasons.

Do you have kids?  No, but I'd like to one day. I feel too young to have children yet

Do you use sarcasm a lot?  Not very. Usually it annoys me if I think that the interlocutor is saying something stupid and then I use sarcasm. Otherwise, I rather prefer to talk directly about my irritability.

What’s the first thing you notice about other people? Clothing and accessories. One day when I was approaching the place of the date, I thought, "Oh my God, I hope it's not him in that ugly hat"

Eye colour?  I just found out it's called Hazel. Most of my friends think that I have brown eyes, but in fact it's just dark green. I myself thought for a long time that I had brown eyes, until I found out that this was impossible for genetic reasons in biology class. Lol.

Scary movies or happy endings?  In fact, I really don't like horror movies, as I am extremely nervous, but paradoxically I like Stephen King horror books, I also like to watch reviews of scary games, and at one time I also read a lot of SCP. And some of my favorites are La Favorite and Spencer. But I also like TV series, for example, Sexual Education, The Handmaid's Tale, Euphoria And a lot of animated series

Any special talents?  I can push my shoulder out of the joint and move my eye asymmetrically (but this is very dangerous because it occurs due to excessive blood pressure in the eyes and head). Also, I'm never late even if I'm late. For some reason, it always happens that I come before everyone else.

Where were you born?  Russia, in a small provincial town of Samara. (A million and a half is a small town?) This city used to be a pirate bay, then a fortress, then a merchant hub on the Silk Road, and therefore the city center is located near the Volga River and a beautiful long beach is a 5-minute walk away. Sometimes I think it looks like Miami, but with beautiful wooden architecture of the XIX century

What are your hobbies?  My hobby is art and it encompasses too many areas ranging from crafts and Craft and Art, and ending with the study of the latest fields of art. My professional activity is contemporary art, but I also draw, knit, embroider, sculpt, 3D model and much more. Now I'm finishing sewing another blanket, until recently I completely made my room, I redid some furniture, I really like to change spaces. I also like baking and now I have my own garden and I love messing with plants so much! But I don't perceive it as gardening, for me it's performative practices. And of course I really love sims and now I play sims 4 too much. A very important addition, I completely forgot to write about the TAROT. I started studying tarot since Halloween, but in general I have always been engaged in magical practices

Do you have any pets?  No, I like to communicate with animals and I've always wanted to get a cat, but now I understand that this is a very big responsibility

How tall are you?  182 cm, quite tall and thin

Fave subject in school?  I never liked school, but I liked Social Studies, Biology, World Culture and Art. At the university it was Art History, Psychology and Painting

Dream job?  Don't work. I burned out a lot after working at the museum and could not start a new job for 5 months. I would just like to please you with Sims content and get enough money for a living from it. Now I work remotely and I am most comfortable that now I can wake up, take a laptop and, lying in bed, perform work tasks without communicating with people. Sometimes I feel so bad that it turned out to be the optimal format for me, so as not to overexert myself. I am already crying at the delivery of this dialogue. What have I gotten myself into?

I know that a Gen Z somewhere can deliver dialogue without it being stilted. I know they exist.

bookbinding is a masterpiece of a romcom and inhuman resources made me squeal (too much time with roddy's missus lol, and my poor roddie getting his arm bitten by an inferius my poor baby)

death eaters in paradise is my most re-read out of yours (I ADORE IT)- then again, roddy slander which i cannot tolerate but there's lots of lucius slander too and CAGA makes me giggle every time i read it (and also the poor bell boy, and druella is a bitch and the gaudy cocktails and oh my god i love your writing so much)

as i've said elsewhere, merope gaunt has become one of my favourite characters to explore this year, in particular because she provides an excellent insight in how the series thinks about things like motherhood, desire, love, and death.

in this piece, she is the lens through which we can examine how the series thinks about a theme which is surprisingly prominent in it, given that it's a story about a not-particularly-observant teenage boy: beauty.

the harry potter series is suspicious both of those who are unnaturally beautiful and those who are unnaturally lacking in beauty. harry is a physical everyman - neither too good-looking nor identifiably unattractive - and the female characters the book likes, especially ginny and hermione, are hot enough that we know they're not bad or unsympathetic people (not like ugly old rita skeeter, or pansy parkinson, or moaning myrtle, or dolores umbridge) but also not so hot that they need to be considered bad in a different way (like fleur, until the point she proves she has inner beauty too and ginny and molly accept her...)

this isn't only a spectrum reserved for the female characters (lockhart gets the fleur treatment - the idea that being good-looking or vain is indicative of some deeper moral weakness; peter pettigrew is unattractive as well as a cunt), but it intersects with one of the series' main gendered aspects: that stereotypically feminine interests are silly, and that women who wish to be considered substantial in some way don't care about them.

the main example of this is, of course, the difference between lavender and hermione. the one is silly, giggly, and girly, the other is clever, sensible, and authentic. the one is the sort of girl you have a fling with, the other is the woman you marry.

merope is an ugly character - and, therefore, one which the narrative is not particularly sympathetic towards - but her ugliness also comes accompanied by a jealous desire for beauty she cannot attain, in the forms of tom riddle sr. and his pretty girlfriend, cecilia. neither of these two are shown to be nice or sympathetic people either (tom sr. is a dick in his only canon appearance, and the narrative emphasises at other points that the riddles are rude and unpopular). merope and tom exist, then, at the two extremes of attractiveness which the series regards as negative.

but merope is also someone whose life is unrelentingly miserable. in the fact that it is devoid of beauty, it is also devoid of comfort, pleasure, safety, opportunity and so on. much as the series is critical of love that is not sacrificial, it is critical of covetousness, frivolity, or silliness. but these things are not simply morally neutral, but morally good. and a girl who is clearly - if we read between the lines of canon - the subject of degrading and violent abuse at the hands of her male relatives should be able to find comfort in the pretty ephemera of womanhood. sometimes a lipstick is a lipstick and a unicorn is a unicorn. sometimes they're a lifeline.

death (eaters) in paradise and atramentum come together (bellatrix: i'm listening), because the latter is in very many sense the serious version of the former.

my justification for why bellamort are a good couple is consistent across things that i write with them in: that he is one of the only men in her life who sees her as a real person, and who understands her desire to escape the rigid conventions of her gender and social class; that she understands his need for love and attention, and that she is far more sympathetic to his childhood trauma than he is willing to admit. the idea that this is the only authentic relationship in either of their lives is one i sincerely believe in, in contrast to the assumption from outside the ship that they can have nothing in common or that there is no honesty there.

both of these pieces have that idea of authenticity - of something real existing underneath pretty set-dressing - as a key theme, alongside the idea that voldemort admires anyone who is interested in making their own life.

atramentum is obviously the sadder of the two, looking as it does at the comfort bellatrix finds in a draughty attic bedroom as the dark lord prepares to go to the potters.

death (eaters) in paradise features bellamort on a package holiday in marbella. and true, we do have to say rip to the bell-boy, killed in the service of trying to wingman for the dark lord.

everlasting ink deals, of course, with what bellamort leave to the world.

i'm a delphini stan account (let me live!), and i think she's a hugely interesting cipher for all sorts of people's neuroses. normally in my writing, those people are her father and her father's various boyfriends, but here it's harry and ginny.

hinny's divergent relationships with lord voldemort (harry loves the hot one, who's also an orphan; he's the one that ruined ginny's life! the snake-faced one literally doesn't realise ginny exists; he's the spectre haunting harry's entire world!) is one of the reasons i don't think they're a particularly good or interesting couple, but here they're dealing with their own baggage and making it work.

with the help of an only mildly sinister toddler, who has big brown eyes, the ability to speak to snakes, and a love of custard she certainly didn't get from bellatrix...

delphini grows up to be a hot slut with a foul mouth. ginny's influence, i'm sure.

it is true that poor, useless rodolphus isn't having a great time in my stuff, i'll admit to it. (although i do think he'll put in a better showing in scylla and charybdis than he has in many other things, not least because the main character assassination happening there is to regulus.)

the issue, i fear, is that he doesn't have much interest in witches. maybe he and bella both like tall, thin men with blood on their hands? or maybe roddy's more inclined towards a ginger - we'll have to see if the tawdry little romance he'll be having with percy weasley as per a prompt i'm filling for rare pair fest will make him any cheerier...

I'm looking for a canonverse fic where Castiel took on Sam's hell madness, and he had to remove part of his grace to let it heal the madness on its own for a very very long time. So long that Sam and Dean died, and Cas was left alone on earth while he waited for his grace to recover. When it did, he became a full angel again and went to heaven where Dean and Sam (and Sam's TWO soulmates!) were waiting for him. Also Castiel's grace was stored in an ugly, diseased tree. Can you help me find it? 

The Answer: In the Shuffling Madness by araftatsea [T, 45,500, SU, angst] This poignant and poetic fic dives deep in season 7 mental hospital!Cas mind and brings closure to his story. It was a sad day when the author unexpectedly deleted all their fics from AO3. But you can find an ePub linked on our review.

Hi, I’m looking for a fic I read awhile ago on ao3. Dean and Cas go on a sort of couples cruise/couple therapy thing for a case. At one point the main “therapist” makes one of them stand on a diving board over the ocean while the other has a slight panic attack. If you know what fic this is that would be great. Thanks!

Hi I'm looking for a specific fic it's a fallen cas fic except it wasn't really an angst fic more like just him pining and satisfied with it. Sam knows cas is pining in the fic and wants cas to leave the bunker because he thinks cas can do better if he stopped loving dean and Dean and Sam argue about whether cas should leave. Do you know what I'm talking about?

Alright. I've been through what feels like a mountain of fic. I read this fic probably at least 10 years ago. Porn star AU. CAS was doing his first gay scene with Dean. Sam is also a porn star. There is a fever dream Wincest chapter which was... Whatever. Dean eventually reveals his big secret that he used to do BDSM stuff with Alastair but he one day went too far and hurt someone and now he doesn't do it. Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope.

The Answer: The Daily Grind by highermagic [NC-17, 87,200, AU, porn] Another fandom classic but for completely different reasons. Posted in 2010 this was the fic to read back in the day when pornstar AUs were all the rage. Warning about that fever dream wincest scene, it was just a weird dream Cas had, nothing more. I'm looking for a fic (~10k words) I think was posted on LJ. It's an AU where Cas and Dean grew up as neighbors, Dean was getting into magician's magic (not real), and Cas becomes a cop and Dean's a wanted fugitive. It goes back and forth in time from kids to adults where Cas is searching for him, and Cas shoots Dean and appears to kill him, but Chuck(?) gives him a ring at a cafe, indicating Dean is alive and Cas chases after him and ends up back at the building they lived in as kids

hey! i’ve literally searched everywhere and i think i’m either going crazy or it’s been deleted. sam, cas, and dean go to like a fisherman town where one guy was infected and shot somebody. and then there were these giant red balls on the beach they later find out are eggs from a creature cas killed? cas and dean were already in a relationship and cas touches the eggs and get infected and pours a bunch of fish in the sink lol. i swear i read it a few months ago but now it’s just gone? does anyone have this downloaded or a link?

Barbie 2023

i’m not fit for writing a whole review so i will just randomly say what i liked and what i despised. I will look at enjoyability, not just the political message of the movie

what i liked:

funky narrator who sometimes communicates with the characters

the visuals in Barbieland are kind of ugly and they reminded me of actual barbie houses we used to play with in kindergarten or at my friend’s (i’m not immune to nostalgia)

Barbie finds out the “girl” playing with her is actually a depressed adult woman who misses her childhood and makes sketches of her. I thought that was a nice little twist.

when Ken is introduced to patriarchy and he’s actually drawn to it, then he introduces it to the women in Barbieland and they also seem to be liking by it at first. I thought this was a very realistic depiction of people introduced to this completely new idea and how effective it can actually seem without seeing the long term effects (the women in Barbieland like the idea that they don’t really have to do anything and the men enjoy that they’re finally in control)

what i hated:

obviously blatant queer phobia. the most onviously queer-coded characters are just labelled as weird. Literally. One of the characters is called Weird Barbie. The idea is that she was played with brutally in the real world and they chopped her hair off and drew on her face. Which is fine but Barbie seems to be sort of disgusted/repulsed by her. The other one i noticed is Allan, who is purely there for comedy and to be out of place. I’d argue that Barbie and Ken were also queer-coded in some sort of way, so i got the idea that it’s ok to be queer until you’re presenting traditionally masculine or feminine. Anything other is weird.

this is just a little detail but they made 2 centimetres of cellulite seem like such a big deal wtf

hypocricy. The movie actually criticizes the brand Mattel for being capitalist and male dominated. But at the whole time i was like ?? Didn’t you make this whole movie to appeal to more little girls and sell more barbie dolls? This part just seemed very confusing to me

the girl who calles out barbie for painting false ideals for girls, being absurdly consumerist and calls her a fascist is presented as some kind of mean girl/villain (ps this is the daughter of the woman who played with Barbie). I mean i agreed with her but Barbie started crying lol. So mean. (I get that she was surprised by this and all it’s just weird)

people literally STEALING content from people who made content and stuff for other games by converting them to the sims 4 without their permission and a lot of times against their wishes

going off of that, the usage of paywalls against EA's terms of use. people would literally make, like, a hair, and then put that hair behind a paywall. forever. pay for that hair. and it was usually extremely ugly and, yes, made out of mashed up meshes that EA made, behind a paywall.

in addition to the paywalls, the overuse of patreon, putting custom content behind a patreon paywall

in addition to that, the overuse of ad.fly, putting custom content behind ad.fly links, which would literally give people VIRUSES on their computers

eventually, someone started a page where they took content behind paywalls and put it up for anyone to download for free. yeah that didn't last long LMAO the dmca takedowns came almost immediately! hilarious how those creators steal from others, but when someone does it to them they cry copyright and theft!

people stealing photos to copy and paste onto their custom content

that time black simmers called out both EA and white simmers for only making eurocentric items/hairs/skincolors, and people said they "shouldn't bother EA" and "have no right to make demands"

that time when in response to that above happening, some white simmers took a big deep look into themselves and started making custom content for black sims, only for one simmer to throw a fit and say that white people making content with/for black sims is fetishizing and colonialist

the existence of a literal burn book blog on livejournal (simsecret - take a look on there, it's the weirdest reading experience ever)

the existence of several anonymous sites for people to come on and literally just insult other people (i wish i could remember the urls)

SO MUCH TRANSPHOBIA

when EA introduced their first nonbinary sim (darling walsh, i think?) people would give them makeovers, making them either male or female

when the big pronoun update came, there was just so much backlash. so many people were mad about they/them pronouns being the default. so. many.

there's like this EA Game Changer thing were you get new expansion packs and stuff a couple of days earlier to like review and generate buzz about it, and that was a huuuuuge thing for people to be mad about, both about the existance of that program, content creators "selling out", or because they didn't get in lmao

the extreme hated between maxis match and "realistic" custom content
