For more than half a century, it was just a rumor. As London’s river boat pilots passed by Waterloo Bridge (“The Ladies’ Bridge,” as some of them called it) they’d tell a story about the women who had built the bridge during World War II. But the idea that women had been largely involved in building Waterloo Bridge wasn’t included in any official history of the structure, or detailed in any records. During the new bridge’s opening ceremony, on December 10, 1945, then-Deputy Prime Minister Herbert Morrison had declared that “the men that built Waterloo Bridge are fortunate men.” It wasn’t until 2015 that the hard work of these women could be confirmed, by the historian Christine Wall, thanks to a series of photographs she found.
Eight years prior to her discovery, Wall had collaborated with the filmmaker Karen Livesey on a documentary called The Ladies Bridge. It explores the stories of women working on Waterloo Bridge and records first-hand the experiences of a variety of wartime workers who were women. “There was jobs galore. There was absolutely jobs galore. You could go anywhere,” recounts one woman in the film.

"A law has taken effect in Scotland to ensure period products are available free of charge to anyone who needs them.
The Scottish government said it became the first in the world to legally protect the right to access free period products when its Period Products Act came into force Monday.
Under the new law, schools, colleges and universities as well as local government bodies must make a range of period products available for free in their bathrooms. The Scottish government already invested millions of pounds since 2017 to fund free period products in educational institutions, but the law makes it a legal requirement.
A mobile phone app also helps people find the nearest place — such as the local library or community center — where they can pick up period products."

After waiting for seven hours, one doctor eventually sent Sophie for an X-ray – but then another said she couldn’t have one as she was of child bearing age. Instead, shattered and still in horrendous pain, Sophie was sent home with a co-codamol prescription, despite the fact she was breastfeeding and it went against guidance.
After hours of trying to get medical help and being told to take a hot shower by her GP, Sophie was finally bundled into an ambulance called via 111. By then, she was so in so much pain and shock, she was shaking, crying and vomiting.
Even so, Sophie was discharged without a proper diagnosis, any medication, or a support plan, and told she’d have to wait three months for an appointment with the spinal team at another hospital.
another lovely example of women’s health not being taken seriously at all <3

Hi all,
I’m really pleased to announce that the process of organising meetings outside of London has been successful so far. So, if you are a radical/rad-aligned/gender critical feminist, anywhere in the UK, who is interested in meeting other rad etc women (adult only) in real life, please message me.
Also, if you are based in or around London/the South East, and would be interested in meeting other rad etc women in a WOC-specific group, and/or and LGB-specific group, please get in touch too.
Getting offline, building communities, and talking to each other is the first step to change.
Looking forward to hearing from you all!

Something that has always confused me about British TERFs/GCs/etc was how often they refer to women's "sex-based rights." Like, is that a concept with some sort of legal or cultural history in the UK? Or is it something that they're trying to manifest through sheer repetition?
And if these rights are something they're trying to manifest, why are they aiming so depressingly low? I only ever hear these rights mentioned in reference to bathrooms and sports.

“Some fathers from the Lebanese community in Australia traffic their daughters to Lebanon, where they are married to relatives at ages from 14 upwards (Harris, 2005). The girls do not know the purpose of the visits.
Some manage to get to the Australian embassy, demanding to be returned home. In one case that was reported in the media a 14 year-old girl turned up at the embassy with her suitcases saying she had been married against her will at 13 and imprisoned.”

“Straight white women are the biggest threat to the uk 🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓”
Do you hear your misogynistic ass lmao. 84% of crimes of violence against the person in the uk are committed by men, as well as 98% of sexual offences, 86% of arsons, 93% of weapons offences, and 92% of robberies.
A serving officer of Hertfordshire police, James Ford, was recently found guilty of raping a 13 year old girl and wiping his phone to conceal the evidence.
Matthew Thompson, a pedophile who recently pled guilty to charges of assault of a child by penetration, sexual assault of a child, sexual activity with a child and taking indecent photographs of a child, was allowed to go on holiday by the court before carrying out his sentence.
Brexit, which has ultimately contributed to a severe cost of living crisis in the uk, was made possible by male prime minister David Cameron, and the referendum is highly suspected to have been rigged by Vote Leave- founded by Dominic Cummings and Matthew Elliot- who were found to have ignored signs of Russian interference in their favour.
So no, actually, straight white women are not the biggest threat to the UK because your least favourite one is being a bigot online. There isn’t some sort of cunning, underground movement of evil, deviant women. You people sound like Elizabethan men paranoid of their witchy wives cuckolding them at this point.
The biggest threat to our country is powerful men, especially rich white men, who abuse their positions of power to exploit women and children and other vulnerable people, and make money off of the destruction of our country. Get a fucking grip and stop falling for misogynistic propaganda. This is real life.

Did any UK radfems catch "Gender Wars" on Channel 4?
Non-UK link here (I just found the link on twitter, no idea who this person is or what their politics are)
It was a pretty surface level look at the gender ideology debate, primarily focusing on Dr. Kathleen Stock's experience within the academic world, and on those who have disagreed with or protested against her. There was talk of male violence, "trans women are women", single-sex spaces (limited mostly to bathroom chat and a brief mention of rape/domestic violence shelters, which was frustrating) and freedom of speech, but no mention of statistics, women's sports, Mermaids/Tavistock/ROGD, the "cotton ceiling", same sex healthcare provision, and a whole other host of things I'm forgetting. I understand that the documentary had to limit the issues discussed, but I think they overlooked some of the higher priority conflicting needs/interests in favour of the flashier or more digestible conversations.
I'm glad that Dr. Stock, Julie Bindel and Linda Bellos* were the high-profile "TERFs" featured in the documentary. It's nice seeing the focus taken away from demagogues like Kellie-Jay Keen (aka Posie Parker). Homophobia is at the heart of gender identity ideology, so it makes sense to centre parts of the gender critical discussion around the lesbian perspective.
Some of the trans participants (Dr. Finn Mackay and Stephen Whittle afaik) in the documentary have claimed to have been misled regarding the context of their interviews. The former tweeted about not being informed that the documentary would focus on Dr. Kathleen Stock, and said that had this been made clear, the invitation to appear would not have been accepted. I won't defend Channel 4 for using deceptive journalistic practices, but I was glad to hear their perspectives as two female trans people - the documentary was otherwise very male-centric on the trans side.
There was a very painful moment to watch in the documentary, as a debate about the right to cause offence, held at Cambridge Union, was used by one of the participants to make personal attacks on Dr. Stock's character. She was visibly affected by this, but made it clear that she would defend any opponent's right to argue against her. I think she came off very admirably here, showing herself to be consistent in her principles (belief in free speech) but also not hiding her emotional response to baseless insults.
A final noteworthy observation is that all of the trans interviewees made constant reference to the belief that Dr. Stock's views (or any gender critical views) are putting trans people's lives at risk. In their eyes, it's the inherent and apparently lethal danger that gender criticism poses, which justifies all manner of tactics used in the name of trans rights. This isn't new to me, or to radblr, but I think it will shock some of the offline crowd, considering Dr. Stock made multiple references to trans people absolutely needing ongoing legal protection.
Overall, I think Channel 4 have created a very balanced, very superficial introduction to gender identity ideology and its feminist critiques. Drawing a clear line in the sand between gender critical feminism and conservative transphobia will likely anger both conservatives themselves and those who conflate the two groups. But I found it really refreshing.
*Linda Bellos only featured very briefly at the end, and I absolutely wish we could've heard more from her.

"New analysis out today from the Fawcett Society and Democracy Club shows just how far we have to go to achieve truly equal gender representation.  Currently, fewer than 5% (18 or 382) of local councils have achieved at least parity in gender representation. That means, based on the current rate of change, we won't see 50:50 representation until 2051.  Fawcett regularly conducts analysis of women's representation in local authorities in lieu of any official government or political party monitoring.  Our analysis shows:
In August 2022, just 36% of the 19,212 elected councillors across the UK were women. This is similar to representation of women in the House of Commons (35%)
At a regional level, no council has gender parity, with London the highest at 45% women and Northern Ireland the lowest at 26%.
The proportion of women in councils in 2022 is only 2 percentage points higher than in a snapshot taken in 2018
No party has gender parity, though there is significant variation. The highest proportion of women is found in the Labour (47%), Green (43%) and Scottish National Parties (41%), whilst the lowest proportion is found in the Conservative Party (29%), the SDLP (29%), DUP (21%) and Ulster Unionist Parties (20%)."

LOOK AT THIS CHILD. LOOK AT HER.
This is what Biden is sending "Israel" money and bombs to do. This is what America and the UK and "Israel" are doing. This is what the "free, civilised world" is paying for. This is what your taxes are paying for. This is where every penny earned by companies supporting and owned by "israel" are paying for. LOOK AT HER. THIS IS REAL. DO NOT LOOK AWAY. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. OR ARE YOU NOT HUMAN?
