Honestly, I won't be surprised that despite all this Fuckery from Russia yet again trying desperately to ruin shit and cause more disorder. Is that you'll still have idiots and tankies fools either on this hellsite or other parts of social media in general that are still willing to make excuses for Russia bullshit and continue to kiss Putin ass for some brain-dead unknown reasons. Or those other morons who still think Trump shitting on NATO allies and encouraging Russia to have its way with the rest of Europe is still "No BiG DeAl. "

I have nothing but contempt for people who are in free countries yet support a dictatorship, support the war on a free country. I suppose russian propaganda has gotten to them here, but that's no excuse. They should know better. It's so obvious to anyone with half a brain who looks at the russian invasion that it's wrong and must be stopped. Russia is a huge country who attacked its smaller neighbor. No justification. Any "justification" is propaganda. It is merely a war of expansion.
Fighting against it is as morally right as fighting the nazis in world war II. Because russia is also doing nazi like things to pieple, not "just" bombing peaceful cities and killing civilians on purpose. It's committing grotesque war crimes. Just because Ukrainians dared to be free. Just because they dared to resist the russian machine that wanted to spread darkness and tyranny over Ukraine, not satisfied with keeping it in their own country.

i still can't fathom the fact that Western European leaders are SO DAMN SCARED of russia, to the point of even being against the visa ban for russians. they're acting as if they were in direct danger, as if they were on the frontline.
hey, Western Europeans, don't worry, it's not you, it's us - Eastern and Central European countries, also known as "buffer states". where is your moral superiority now, huh? you are in much safer position than us, you've never even been attacked by russia, unlike us. it's not you who've been receiving open threats from russian authorities in past few months. and yet Eastern European authorities aren't afraid to show middle finger to russians and to stand with Ukrainians. so who's morally superior now?

Very informative thread about what will happen if the rushists follow through on their threats to blow up Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
Please read the original thread, it has so much more details and consequences.
A think it can be translated by Twitter? But I'll just translate a few points from there:
« 1.Forget about Chornobyl', there was one block. If the nuclear power plant, which the russians clearly mined very carefully, goes up in the air, the consequences will be many times worse. there was one reactor. There are 6 of them at the ZNPP.
2. Let's start with the fact that it will not be possible to immediately deal with the consequences. The nuclear power plant is occupied, russia will not allow us or the IAEA to go there, nor will it send its own to patch it up. that is, we will have a broken nuclear plant and no possibility to close it.
3. The staff won't help as they will most likely get blown up or be unable to repair anything due to radiation leaks. therefore, we proceed from the fact that we have a distributed nuclear power plant, from which there is a constant output of: 1) radioactive fuel. 2) radioactive isotopes. 3) graphite.
4. Pollution goes in two ways. the first - by air. it is the air that will carry the worst - isotopes and volatile substances. I think there is no need to explain that it is almost impossible to protect yourself from this. everything will depend on fate, since we do not know which way the wind is blowing.
5. The second and maybe the worst. water pollution radioactive fuel flows and underground water. and most likely in Dnipro. the design capacity of the Chornobyl' NPP is 6,000 MW, the same as that of the ZNPP. however, the Chornobyl' NPP was in operation for 15 years, and the ZNPP - 37. imagine how many times more nuclear fuel there is.
6. But that's not all) rivers flow not only into the seas. rivers, together with underground waters, moisten the lands of Ukraine. as a result, most of Ukraine's land will be polluted and unsuitable for production. any.
7. Most likely, all of Ukraine will be polluted in one way or another. yes, to varying degrees, but it will not escape our neighbors either. if the ENTIRE station actually takes off, then most likely the whole continent will be fucked.»

Helping Ukraine ward off an imperialistic totalitarian neighbor is not just a good errand. It's a matter of US national security which has implications for the entire democratic West.
Allowing Russia to win its war in Ukraine would be a self-imposed strategic defeat for the United States. The United States would face the risk of a larger and costlier war in Europe. The United States would face the worst threat from Russia since the collapse of the Soviet Union, as a victorious Russia would likely emerge reconstituted and more determined to undermine the United States — and confident that it can. A Russian victory would diminish America’s deterrence around the world, emboldening others with an explicit or latent intent to harm the United States. A Russian victory would create an ugly world in which the atrocities associated with Russia’s way of war and way of ruling the populations under its control are normalized. Most dangerous of all, however, US adversaries would learn that they can break America’s will to act in support of their strategic interests. The ground truths of this war have not changed: Russia still explicitly intends to erase Ukraine as a concept, people, and state; Ukraine’s will to fight remains strong; Russia has made no operationally significant advances this year; and Ukraine’s will combined with the West’s collective capability (which dwarfs Russia’s) can defeat Russia on the battlefield. US interests still include preventing future Russian attacks on Ukraine and helping Ukraine liberate its people and territory. Supporting Ukraine is still the best path for the United States to avoid higher costs, larger escalation risks, and a greater Russian threat.
Putin is a madman who has already sacrificed hundreds of thousands of Russians for his goal of essentially reconstituting the shabby Soviet Union. Don't expect him to negotiate in good faith or to keep his word.
Donald Trump is a compromised tool of Putin. And most of the GOP has displayed unswerving allegiance to Trump.
If Russia wins in Ukraine because of the collapse of Western aid, it will be because Russia has managed to shape Americans’ understanding of reality such that the United States willingly chooses to act against its interests and values without realizing that it is doing so. Russia will have manipulated America into abandoning its own interests in a fight it could and should have won. That’s a dangerous lesson for China, Iran, and other US adversaries to learn. America’s security now and in the future, in Asia and the Middle East as well as in Europe, depends on remaining solidly connected with our strategic interests and values and demonstrating that we will not fall prey to efforts to manipulate our perceptions of those interests.
Over the remainder of the winter holiday season, contact your House members and demand that they not cave to Putin.
US House members have an office (often more than one) in their home districts. Visit or call your rep. If you just send an email you'll just get some sort of AI response.
Look up your rep here with your ZIP+4...
Find Your Representative
...then click the name of the search result which will take you to the rep's congressional site. The office locations and phone numbers can be found there. It's important to let the rep know that you're not a bot. Be courteous but firm.

I'm tired of seeing antisemitism on my dash, in all its subtle forms. War is an atrocity, and Israel is not unique in that. Where is the outrage against Russia's ongoing genocide of Ukrainians? What about China's genocide of Uyghurs? What of all the other atrocities being committed around the world? Why is there *so much attention* devoted to hating Israel and seeking, not an end to the conflict, but the end of Israel? Is it just that they're a little country, an easy target to potentially dismantle, compared to the big fish of Russia and China?
Keep calling out the atrocities, by all means, but for the love of humanity maybe broaden your targets and reduce your own genocidal wishes?
Any ideology that says: "They did horrible things so 'they' [the group they belong to] all deserve to die horribly" is an evil one.

The FSB tortured a person detained on suspicion of undermining railway tracks with electric current - Crimean human rights defenders ➜ ZMINA
During the interrogation, despite the recognition of my guilt, I was subjected to torture, namely: I was put on a chair, my hands and feet were tied with tape, electric wires were attached to my fingers... During the torture, I always had a mask on my head, electric torture lasted about an hour ," Barannyk said. However, after admitting his guilt, the FSB officers continued the torture, accusing Barannyk of one more sabotage - blowing up the railway near the village of Chistenke, Simferopol district, on May 18. Simferopolets reported two more cases of torture by electric current: on the night of June 5-6 and June 9-10. Torture lasted for 6 hours. FSB officers forced me to slander myself for committing a crime that I did not commit. First, they tortured me with electric shocks, connecting electrical terminals to my fingers, toes, earlobes, and buttocks. They threatened to rape me with a stick, I took the threats seriously. Then they hit him with hands and feet on the body and head, as a result of which, I assume, a rib on the right side was broken. According to him, after the beating, his kidneys hurt a lot, he partially lost sensitivity in his right hand. " Then they put me on a military stretcher, tied my hands and feet with tape, put a rag on my face and started pouring water, simulating drowning. Torture by drowning was periodically changed to torture by electric current. All this time, they demanded that I confess to a crime that I did not commit ," says Kyrylo

sorry but i am going to be very american and selfish and navel gaze-y for a moment but this is on my mind a lot as we approach february. just... ignore me.
i'm of ukrainian heritage. i'm also completely disconnected from my heritage because my great-great/great-grandparents fully assimilated as americans.
with the exception of my great-uncle (who lives far away and i rarely see), i have no living relatives who know much about our heritage (or are willing to talk about it in any detail beyond the romanticized ~*immigrant experience*~). everything i know about our family comes from my uncle because everyone else is dead; either died elderly and comfortable in the US or likely died in the holodomor. trying to research my family is useless bc my great-grandpa changed his last name to something completely made up so he could find work when he was in his early teens. this has always been a "fun" legend in our family; the choice to disconnect. it's a story our family has always told like it was some sort of wacky hijinks and as a kid was very funny but now, in my 30s and watching a cultural genocide unfold in ukraine, it feels devastating.
there are a small handful of things my family has held onto while also losing. there's the lost recipe for my great-grandma's holubsti (a word i didn't know how to spell until recently) that my family mourns every time we get together. i used to make pysanky for easter with my parents, which was passed down from my great-great aunt. my dad inherited her pysanky dyes after she passed away and we had them for years before most of the jars broke in a move. we have one remaining unbroken pysanka from her that i think she made in the 70s. i cannot imagine having hands so steady to make those intricate designs. mine always came out looking like shit.
i've always been curious about this part of my heritage but never felt any great need to seek it out until now. it feels fake and disingenuous to be interested in learning about this part of my heritage as a result of a war. that i didn't seek it out sooner. what is wrong with me that i care now.
i'm not sure where i'm going with this. i'm not sure what or how i'm supposed to feel. what i do feel is lost and angry and sad and selfish for feeling this way.

Nuclear terrorism at work: the russian military have declared their readiness to blow up the mined Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
Tumblr media
The russians make no secret of their plans and already openly blackmail the whole world, declaring the Zaporizhzhia NPP mine planting and their readiness to blow it up.
In his statement today, the head of the radiation, chemical and biological defense forces of the russian federation, major general valeriy vasyliev, who currently commands the garrison of the ZNPP, said «there will be either russian land or a scorched desert».
«As you know, we have planted mines in all the important facilities of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. And we do not hide this from the enemy. We warned them. The enemy knows that the plant will be either russian – or no one's. We are ready for the consequences of this step. And you, warriors – liberators should understand that there is no other option. And in case of receiving the most severe order, we must fulfill it with honor!»
Earlier, the representative of the press service of the Main Intelligence Department of the Ministry of Defense Andriy Yusov reported that the department has confirmed information about the mining of the ZNPP power units by russian troops.

I can't believe that we're only half-way through February 2023 and so much crazy stuff has already happened this year.
And yet I'm also not at all because I honestly believe these are the "birth pains" the Bible talked about.
And because 2022 was getting so weird, I figured 2023 would probably be the same way and worse. Like, that we'd get more of the same (and maybe more intense things? And perhaps stranger?) and maybe even in faster intervals. (And that also goes hand-in-hand with the Bible mentioning the "birth pains", and how like a woman in labor they would become more frequent and painful.)

Here's the Captain himself, Christopher Bonifatievich Vrungel! This man has the biggest dad energy I've ever seen on a character, and happily (unofficially) adopts all of his crew and treats them like family. He's kind, loving, and prides himself on being a very realistic and down to earth guy. Many years ago, he earned fame and glory in the Navy, climbing the ranks up to Captain before he was discharged. Though he was glad to part from the war and the violence he had experienced, the sea remained in Christopher's heart. He couldn't bear to part from it, and started entering sailing competitions as an excuse to stay on the briny blue. Earning even more fame and money as he continued to win practically every race or competition he entered, he eventually retired from actively sailing and happily accepted a job teaching students the ins and outs of boats and the seas they sail on at a little college. Though, of course, when a letter made its way to him inviting him to a sailing race, he just couldn't refuse. The opportunity to be back on a ship was just too good to resist. ...However, this trip might be too much for even the great Captain Vrungel to handle! Watch as his sanity slowly degrades as the race goes on and he begins to question everything he thought was possible, make sure to wish him luck, and feel free to ask him any sort of questions on this Tumblr ask blog.
