Oh thank you very much. That’s always so cool to see when people abroad take interest in our culture. Also now I really need to reread Я (романтика)
For those who don’t speak Ukrainian: the link is for an article about a theatre performance called “Motherland” inspired by Ukrainian Mykola Khvyliovy’s psychological novella I am (romantic). It is about the head of local communist law enforcement agency who must decide whether or not sentence his mother to death in the name of Soviet ideals.
The director is an American of Ukrainian origin and the actors are Ukrainians from Kharkiv, so the performance was also inspired by their experiences of war in Ukraine.
They’ve planned multiple shows in USA, as well as Paris, London, Berlin and Ukraine. So, you can go to the show if you’d like to or watch the show here on youtube

I am FINALLY getting to see Alvin Ailey this upcoming February!!!!  We had tickets for March 2020 and, of course, it was canceled, but now they’re coming back and I have tickets!
I’ll also be seeing the United Ukrainian Ballet’s new production of Giselle.  UUB is really cool because it’s a company made of dancers who fled Ukraine/Ukrainian dancers.  They’ve done Swan Lake and even a new production of Giselle by Ratmansky.  I’m stuck seeing the Giselle (ugh Ratmansky), but it’s such a cool company and I’m thrilled to support these dancers!
And then ABT is bringing Romeo and Juliet.  I can’t wait to see the casting!
I bought tickets to all three of these shows for my mom and me.  Fucking expensive, I swear.

... the one thing that never changes is time.
Empires shall fall into the see Gusty winds from all sides will be blowing us around Fortresses and bunkers will become of no use to them Who will you be running to as hard as you can Who will you beg to, don’t keep silence Talk to me With whom shared memories will flow as drawings in the eyes
Will it be me Tell me if it will be me Will it be me Just tell me
As the sun doesn’t rise, it won’t warm us from above Who will come to your mind Whom will you shout for a last time Don't leave me here, take me with you Who’s your one and only Though you live, though you die What would you call for a game and what for a relationship?
So in such a manner now check all your principles Down with screaming, arrogance, fame, assuredness Whether I am a star Or I am your eclipse Or I just created you in my imagination
Empires shall fall, Boombox, November 19, 2021 Імперії впадуть, Бумбокс, Листопад 19, 2021

🌟✨ Join us for a powerful live-streamed performance! 🌍🎭 The Wilma Theater collaborates with The League of Live Stream Theater to present "My Mama and The Full-Scale Invasion" by Ukrainian playwright Sasha Denisova. 🇺🇦
📜 My Mama and The Full-Scale Invasion centers on Denisova’s 82-year-old mama, Olga (Twyford), who has lived in Kyiv her whole life. When Russia invades Ukraine in 2022, Sasha (Holum) copes with her fears by imagining her mother in increasingly fantastical situations: strategizing with President Zelenskyy, meeting with world leaders, taking out Russian drones with jars of pickles, and even debating with God. Throughout the play, Sasha reveals layers of her and her mother’s relationship, offering a window into their lives that is simultaneously revealing and endearing. Denisova was inspired by her online chats with her mother to write this defiantly funny and deeply heartfelt play about her family’s connection and legacy amidst the present-day war and global crisis. In centering herself and her mother in the play, Denisova provides an emotionally resonant heartbeat to humanize the Ukrainian resistance for audiences separated from the war by an entire hemisphere.
📆 Save the dates: February 9, 10, and 11 for four live-streamed performances!
🎟️ Secure your tickets now and be a part of this emotional journey: https://www.lolst.org?via=ENGin
For every ticket sold, ENGin will get $6 donation to fuel the English-learning for Ukrainians. ✨ Your attendance not only contributes to the vibrant arts scene but also helps empower individuals in Ukraine through education.
Let's come together, support the Ukrainian spirit, and make a difference! 🤝🇺🇦

i find it especially insulting that russians have the gall to place posters around CRIMEA. showing the destroyed mariupol theatre captioned "drama theater scene blown up by ukrainian nationalists"
Tumblr media
the theater served as shelter for civilians during the first stages of the siege, it had a giant writing in russian that said "children" that was visible from satellite. and it was subsequently razed to the ground with a missile attack.

List of russian lies in the UN or during diplomatic speeches:
1. In January-February of 2022 russia claimed in the UN that they will not invade Ukraine, that they have no plans to invade Ukraine, and evidence of upcoming invasion are lies made by the US or others.
End of the same month russia launched a full-scale invasion.
2. Russia claimed in the UN that the reason they attacked Ukraine was to fight some "local nazis" and that they are indeed good guys fighting Ukrainian hatred. That, however, does not explain why: a) russia opposed the grain deal until Turkey threatened to make it work one way or the other, showing their intention to starve hundreds of millions of people in neutral countries for no reason whatsoever, b) russia refused to allow UN or Red Cross etc to observe the conditions of POWs or to open humanitarian corridors for people to escape from Mariupol or other conflict zones, with thousands of witnesses reporting abductions, filtration camps, and shelling of retreating civilians, c) russia claimed to only want to protect local russian population, yet completely destroyed whole cities in majorly-russian-speaking Eastern Ukraine, like Mariupol (satellites showing mass graves), and bombing mainly civilian targets - schools, hospitals, theatres, a shopping mall during peak hours, a train station where people waited for evacuation, apartment buildings, etc. Currently we can see that there is no effort on the russian-controlled side of Dnipro river to help people in flooded areas, with videos and citizen testimonies reporting shelling of all disaster aid attempts, d) russia claimed that they only hate the "nazi" Ukrainian government, yet they openly shelled Ukrainian power grids during winter, for no other reason than to leave innocent civilians with no gas or electricity.
3. Russian state TV, public figures like Solovyov, former President and Prime Minister as well as head of security council of russia Medvedev openly stated either on national TV or in their social media pages that they want to "exterminate" Ukrainians. That the whole country should not exist, that Ukrainian language is fake, etc etc. This is genocidal speech and it is not limited to Ukraine either. The Baltic States, Poland, etc also received such claims - that they "do not exist" that they "belong to russia" or that they "should be invaded". Makes it very obvious who the imperialistic, colonist aggressor actually is. Medvedev also repeatedly threatened Western European countries with missile or even nuclear attack, yet they claim to only be "defending themselves".
4. Lavrov got laughed at during a summit in India for claiming that "russia was invaded by Ukraine". Do I even need to explain why this is a lie? If I do, check 1st point again. Or just turn on your brain.
5. Then there's more sci-fi nutjobby official russian claims (or lies) about - bioweapons in Ukraine, pidgeons carrying disease or weapons to russia, Ukraine having some super-soldiers, or even dark magic, as indicated by russian Ministry of Defense changing the goal of their "special military operation" from "denazification" to "desatanization".
And that's just a few of the main ones. More is discussed in the latest UN meeting, you can watch the video on their official website.
So, knowing all of this, why the fuck would you believe ANYTHING they say? Especially about the destruction of dam?
Russia has repeatedly shown aggressive attitude towards neighbouring countries, claimed their wish to occupy them, russian officials called for extermination of whole nationalities, and both President putin and Belova have enough evidence against them for ICC to issue a warrant for them for GENOCIDE AND WAR CRIMES.
If you still believe in russia, despite anything they themselves say, you're either a genocide-supporter or unbelievably stupid.

something that really bothers me about response to the war in ukraine is the overwhelming use of the theoretical if.
"if russia did the same thing then the world would be up in arms"
no matter what atrocity russia has commited it will never be acknowledged. ukrainian war crimes, both real and imagined, are taken at face value but there's never enough proof to pin anything to russia. use of cluster munitions on cities, executions of civilians, mass graves, widespread use of sexual assault. all of it is either a hoax or worse they blame ukraine.
no amount of proof is enough for bucha or irpin to be real but organ harvesting biolabs are taken as gospel. its an incredibly insidious way of shifting the goalposts and acting like the victim. any mention of the kidnapped children is russophobia. its all the western propaganda about the over 700 medical facilities hit with missiles. all aimed at discrediting ukraine and making russia seem like the victim.
i'm not going to pretend like ukrainian war crimes don't exist. however there are so many lies about organ harvesting, forced surrogacies and biolabs among the more mundane claims like ukraine commited the bucha massacre and blew the nova kakhovka dam that simply aren't happening.
ukrainian war crimes are solo bad actors who are punished once evidence comes forward. russian war crimes are systemic and awarded for their efforts. the pilot who blew up the mariupol theatre got a medal. and yet to the outside world when it comes to russia its always that fucking if

rating some of the ways the war has affected me, from best to worst
(coming from an ukrainian living in Ukraine)
— always carrying around a first aid kit, a seating pad, a flashlight and an extra charger in case air raid starts when I’m out and I’ll have to spend a long time in the shelter
10/10, a bit heavy to carry around, but I’m always prepared, + a seating pad is useful in a lot of scenarios
— always making sure my phone is charged (I don’t let the battery go lower than 80%)
9/10, this might be bad for the battery health, but in case they turn off the light for three days straight again, or in case of a sudden air raid, I’m always prepared
— immediately checking any place I’m at for emergency exits, basements, wardrobes/tables I can hide under in case there’s bombing/shooting
8/10, creeps some people out, but I think this should be done no matter what situation you’re in, safety is important (minus a bunch of points because the experience of being stuck in a mall while bombs fall right on it was not giving)
— always keeping all my belongings in one place, in case I’ll have to leave the city immediately
7/10, a little depressing, but I can always find what I’m looking for
— always keeping my phone on in case something happens to my family/relatives that went missing contact me; and to know the air alert situation right now
6/10, I’m easy to reach, but sometimes I get too distracted by the news
— always planning my walks in such a way there’s always a shelter nearby
5/10, kinda limits my freedom of movement, but at least I’m relatively safe
— not being able to go anywhere crowded, including the mall/theater/restaurant/cinema/big shops
4/10, could have been worse, but while legally I am allowed to go wherever I want, rockets hit any crowded spaces so fast, it’s literally scary. couldn’t see a very important theatre performance of my friend’s because of this
— not being able to travel inside the country normally, since constant air raids and bombings
3/10, I haven’t traveled since the coronavirus hit, and I’m a huge travel person. also can’t go anywhere outside the country because all the flights are cancelled, and it’s too expensive to go by train
— having constant problems with sleeping, as because of air raids I have to wake up at three in the morning, go to the shelter and go home at around eight
2/10, the last week has been crazy and I haven’t slept normally in days, also I’ve become a really light sleeper, and I can’t fall asleep easily anymore
— fear of loud sounds
1/10, my neighbour enjoys slamming the doors really loudly, and every time she does that I’m having a mini heart attack
— panic attacks
0/0, self explanatory
