The Other Boleyn Girl 👑✨🖤 Welcome to the grounds of Hever Castle 🏰. Dating back to the 13th century, Hever Castle was once the childhood home of Anne Boleyn! I’d highly recommend a tour of Hever Castle for a peek at what life looked like for the Boleyn family many moons ago. In more “modern” times, the formal Loggia fountain (here!) was inspired by the Trevi fountain in Rome and completed in 1908 after William Waldorf Astor, the American millionaire, acquired Hever Castle and restored the property. The castle and grounds look as amazing as they do today thanks to his family’s restoration efforts. I absolutely love learning about history and visiting spots like this throughout England. There is always so much to discover. Ndutu Region The Ndutu Region forms part of the northern section of Ngorongoro Conservation Area and stretches to the unfenced southern reaches of the Serengeti National Park, a meeting point between these two incredible wilderness areas. This section of the park is made up of rolling grasslands peppered with alkaline lakes that attract flocks of flamingos, as well as acacia woodlands. There’s year-round resident wildlife (such as giraffe, elephant, hyena and various antelope species) in the Ndutu Region, and you can spot animals around the waterholes during the dry season from June to November. Look out for the six cat species – lion, cheetah, leopard, serval, African wild cat and caracal – that are present throughout the year. The best months to visit the Ndutu Region are from December, when the Great Migration herds start to arrive from the north, until April when the millions of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle have trekked northwards again. In the early months of the year – with a peak in February – the wildebeest herds are calving on the verdant grassy plains: thousands up thousands of baby animals are born every day, attracting the attention of cheetah, lion and hyena. One of my most memorable meals… Petra, Jordan. We had dinner in a Bedouin tent overlooking the ancient valley of Petra. The sunset was one of the best I’ve seen and the sky was at first cerulean and then fiery red (these pics are not filtered - not even the sunset or tree ones). A Jordanian musician played traditional Bedouin music on a small string instrument I’d never seen before while we were waited on like treasured guests. All the while, we laughed, watched the sun set and ate mezze. When the food was ready, they called us over to the cooking area and dug a massive pot out of the earth. In it was a tiered grill layered with lamb, chicken and veg. This sat on a bed of rice which the mat and veg flavoured. The food was rustic but more flavourful than any fine dining restaurant meal I’ve had. Then, after dinner, we sipped Arabic coffee scented with cardamom and Jordanian cay (chai / tea), a black tea flavoured with sage and other herbs - all while watching the stars dance in the dessert sky. The kids went back to their hotel room when it got colder (insanely cold in contrast to the scorching day). So, my hubby and I wrapped ourselves the provided blankets, watched people, stars, the profile of the dark mountains in the valley below and gave many, many thanks for our beautiful earth.
