When Scully wakes, he is in her bed.
She didn’t expect him to still be there. No one in her life ever stays, certainly not anyone good.
Which is why she has to end it. They will take him from her like they’ve taken all good things in her life.
And like all good things in her life, this one can’t last.
She dresses quietly and drives to the building on autopilot, runs a brush through sleep-mussed hair. She doesn’t want to look at herself in the mirror but she catches a glimpse as she enters the building.
She looks tired. Sick.
She is tired and sick. They’ve been reluctant to give her this last bout of treatment, saying her information has been drying up, and what are they keeping her around for, then?
Skinner isn’t there when she knocks on his door. She knew he wouldn’t be. Instead, he is, the man with smoke forever clouding his face.
“I can’t do this anymore,” she says, shutting the door behind her. She hates how her voice trembles. “I won’t.”
“You don’t have a choice.”
“You think I won’t die to get away from you?” she asks.
“You didn’t want to two years ago.”
“Two years ago I wasn’t this,” she says. “I wasn’t—wasn’t a traitor, wasn’t betraying my country, two years ago I had something to live for.”
She doesn’t know why she’s admitting this to him of all people. Maybe because she doesn’t care.
“You’re making a mistake,” he says. “We will end you.”
You already have, she thinks.
“Go ahead,” she says and turns towards the door.
“Dana,” he says, and there’s a warning in his tone. “We’ll end him. You know we can do it.”
This makes her stop. Pause.
“What do I care if you destroy Fox Mulder,” she says. “He means nothing to me.”
It’s the only lie she’s ever told that tastes bitter on her tongue.

It's the first time they've gone out together as a couple. Well. Gone out is an overstatement; it's lunch in the J. Edgar Hoover building's cafeteria; someplace she's pretty sure Mulder has only set foot in once in his entire FBI career.
It's good—the food. Better than she expected for government food. It's a step up from airline food in that it's edible and at least mildly delicious.
What she can't get over is the staring.
Mulder keeps tapping his fingers on the table. They sit across from each other, her foot occasionally brushing his, and it really does feel like everyone in the building is watching them.
Do they know? Can they sense it—the change between the two of them? To her it feels palpable.
She reaches for his hand, if only to still his fingers. He startles, looks at her.
"Is this okay?" she asks, and he nods. She smiles reassuringly, not letting go of his hand for the rest of lunch until they stand to clear their trays.
She reaches for his hand again as they walk back down to the basement, on impulse. But she finds herself hesitating, suddenly.
As if he can read her mind, Mulder reaches down and intertwines his own fingers with hers.
"Who cares what they think?" he asks, and she nods, squeezing his hand, content as always to let him reassure her.

Hey tumbleeesss how you tumbling, it’s time for your randomly dished out dose of my silly little art!
Ok so, this time I did a little bit of a challenge, I saw this on Drawfee. I’m sure you know who they are but if you don’t they’re this art challenge channel with great, lovely personalities they all seem really cool and not to brag but Jacob once liked my art on Twitter, I know, I know, I’m so cool but anyways.
The main gist of this challenge is:
You roll your music playlist, the first song is one character. You roll it again and the second song is a second character. AND THEN, THE 3RD SONG IS THEIR RELATIONSHIP. This can be platonic, romantic, indifferent etc etc but it’s so fun!
So this is what I rolled:
1: Clown by Updog
2: The Fall by Lovejoy
3: Tranz by Gorillaz
I had to figure out what all of these very different songs meant, how to turn them into characters, and how those characters/relationship look/feel like.
Clown is about this guy calling out this other obviously pretentious guy. So I started to think, who would call someone out no matter what, who would know so much about someone to be able to do that. Maybe a childhood friend? But that doesn’t give me a lot to work with. I’d watched a Monster Camp playthrough recently, the guy in it romanced the death reaper, so THAT got me thinking. I ended up settling on this clown (get it? Like the song name) demon who takes souls to the afterlife via travelling through their whole lives with them.
There’s the character designnnnn I love it it’s so cute yet menacing, NOW ONWARD TO THE FALL.
The fall was a bit more easier as I’d started to imagine it as a character before. It mainly helped with the colours but it also helped with the current falls “origins”. Tw for abuse for this next section, I’ll put it in red and make it small so you can skip it. So my idea for the fall was an abused person going on a roadtrip to nostalgic places as a break from their current toxic relationship. The nostalgic road trip backfires though and just reignites disgusted and angry feelings towards their parents due to y’know the abuse. So it’s safe to say the fall’s a very unlucky human being, THEY DESERVE BETTER. In my mind the song’s from their point of view addressing to herself as “we” sometimes to give her a better more authoritative and decisive look on things when it is necessary to her well-being. I made them look like this!

What if part of Mumbo jumbo became apart of the rift? The mumbo moustache was consumed and the Jumbo was taken over the process of a month. hey y’all, it’s Katie, the artist formerly known as ukulelekatie. My account appears to have been banned and I’m not 100% sure why (though I think it’s because I made a post containing the word… corn with a P. It was an entirely innocent post, mind you! I was merely complaining about the current bot problem, and, well... I guess I was mistaken for one of the bots myself).
Anyway, I‘m in contact with Support and have requested for them to reinstate my previous account, so please keep your fingers crossed for me! I would be so sad to lose all of my old posts and lose touch with many of my long-time mutuals for good. But for now (and in case ukulelekatie is gone for good), this will serve as my backup.

the way you draw is so cute! what can't you do?
Oh, thanks! I just doodle little comics and sometimes draw more serious pieces, but I honestly don’t think my drawing is that great. I don’t say that out of self-deprecation; it’s good enough to satisfy me and I enjoy doing it. I was runner-up in a Scholastic art competition back in high school, so I know I’m not terrible. It’s just not my Thing(TM) the way it is for some of my friends- @teacupchimera, @ukulelekatie, and @bigolegay come immediately to mind. Or the extremely talented artist who illustrated the original post, @fuguhbuguhbuhugguhval.
What can’t I do? Lots of things. One of my roommates recently left to go to medical school; I don’t think I could do that. I can’t do any sort of acrobatics, not even a somersault. I’m not great at sculpture (which is a problem for my doll restoration work). My Charleston gives the impression of a slightly desperate bluestocking librarian c. 1925 trying to impress her flapper crush. And that’s just the beginning of the list.

OH BOY how long do you have here we Go
@dianaofthemyscirae: my best friend whomst I love so very much!!! honestly hilarious, I love her sense of humor and all our wild inside jokes. she’s also so smart and pragmatic and grounded and a hard worker, which I really admire. also, she’s so patient with me and always makes me feel calm and safe, which is really valuable because I’m super melodramatic and my emotions are always all over the place lmao. being able to talk to her every day is one of the best parts of my life tbh.
@ukulelekatie: BIG AWESOME NERD. clever and talented and sassy and also really funny. her art is so good and I’m so proud of how much it’s improved since I’ve known her! also has a lovely singing voice and I’m always impressed when people can play instruments. hanging out with her is always fun and I love that we can talk about anything.
@moonsandstar-s: my daughter!! one of the smartest and strongest people I’ve ever met. she’s a great listener and always has something insightful to say. she’s snarky and kind and wonderful and I love her to bits. her writing is incredible and I’m always happy to read it. such a cool and complex person and I’m really lucky to have her in my life.
@nopantsparade: forreal one of the chillest people ever, I love how mellow he is and we always have good talks. honestly feels like a brother to me, he’s a great artist and a really warm, funny, smart guy.
@suprcorpaf: my son!! the gentlest soul I’ve ever come across, such a sweet person. he’s such a trooper and I’m so proud of him for all he’s overcome. also extremely chill and fun to hang out with.
@joshua-grahams: I’m still trying to figure out this little enigma but it’s been really fun getting to know her. I love how flirty and sweet she is and I always appreciate the pictures she sends of her dog and cat! every time we talk I smile a lot cause she’s cute af.
@marzipanandminutiae: somehow manages to be the coolest and nerdiest person I know simultaneously. she’s got such cool hobbies and I love how true she is to her interests! being completely true to myself is something I still struggle with sometimes and I really look up to her in that way. she’s always fun to hang out with and talk to.
@kuwakittens: we’ve been friends for a long-ass time and I always like having her around. we can talk about any topic or just chill in the same space and I really appreciate that about our friendship. smart and funny and so generous. also gives very good hugs.
those are most of my close friends (who are on tumblr at least) and I love them all so very much. I’m really lucky to know and be friends with all of them!! they all bring a different kind of light into my life and I’m truly grateful for it
