Nobody:
Me at 1 am: Time to sketch one of my favorite otps!
Casien Yedlin (an oc who belongs to @curiousartemis)/ Ulfric Stormcloak. It was supposed to be a redraw of this...but good ole Cassie had other ideas.
My headcanon is that Cas had a little bit to drink, and he's smug because 1) he's taller than his hubby (because he's standing on a chair), and 2) said husband has an arm around him so he doesn't fall.

For Ulfrien or Lauriebeard - Hand-Holding: 24. only realizing it when they have to let go
I went with Ulfrien!! They are SUPER new here. They’re on the journey back from the college to Windhelm (post-Book 1).
//
The bear was far from where we stood, upwind and near the swiftly running river below. It could neither see nor smell us. Nevertheless, my lover gave a little jump beside me when it suddenly rose up on its hind legs.
It wasn’t looking at us, of course, and I was little surprised to see another bear soon lumber into view. True confrontation seemed unlikely—the river would be filled with fish and the surrounding bushes heavy with berries, and neither had cubs. Nevertheless, I leaned over, tilting my head down to murmur into my beloved’s ear: be still.
"Sorry," he said, his eyes still directed at the bears.
He could not see my smile.
The first bear came back down onto its front paws. It opened its mouth, its roar reverberating up through the walls of the valley. The other answered, flecks of white foam flying from their lips. They circled one another, gave rapid, half-hearted swipes with their claws.
I felt a hand suddenly clasp my own.
My heart gave a painfully pleasant lurch, then seemed to flutter against my bones. A slow warmth spread through me, and I frowned, surprised. Foolish, I thought wryly. One might be hard-pressed to tell which of us was genuinely new at this.
Eventually, the squabble below receded. Both creatures lumbered off in opposite directions, and the surrounding forest grew calm again.
All of a sudden, my lover started again, his hand quickly releasing my own. He blinked and looked at me.
I smiled.
“Shall we return to camp?” I suggested.
After a moment’s hesitation, he nodded. I placed my hand on the back of his neck as we walked, my fingers lightly curling inward. When he slipped over an exposed root, I lowered my hand to his back, steadying him, then on a whim moved to tickle my fingers against his side.
He laughed, the bright sound echoing in the trees above.

Could you do #17 and #21 (for both ships if you can) for the otp ask game :)
I would be delighted to!! 😊😊
17. What senses (sights, smells, feelings, etc). remind them of each other?
CASIEN: He will always associate Ulfric with fur - the rough/soft feel of it, the strange, earthy scent of it. It was the cloak that covered him on his journey to Winterhold, and the bedcovers they slept in together. It painted a familiar profile around his lover’s broad shoulders.
The symbol of the bear, obviously. The color blue. Dark blue like the clothing he tends to favor, or light blue like his eyes.
Warmth, safety, security. These are feelings he associates with his husband.
ULFRIC: Black hair, indescribable, loose curls that aren’t curls, soft to the touch, and smelling of roses or lavender or vanilla. Soft skin that dimples when he grips it, that feels too smooth against his own.
An aching smallness, like a tiny, bright flame that never goes out. A beacon for him to return to - to come home to.
LAURIE: Velvet - the thick, fuzzy feel of it against his fingers, always in bold, regal colors. Freckles painted like stars across pale skin. Eyes like the setting sun.
Arms going around him and a chin resting on his shoulder. Feeling cherished and adored - feeling embarrassed over being so cherished and adored, yet strangely flattered, too.
FALK: Music and light, the sort of light that filters through the leaves of the trees and speckles the ground below. Flowers and green, growing spaces. Gentleness. Feeling sheepishly inadequate, like a clod of earth beside an angel. But so, utterly grateful.
21. How have they changed each other for the better/for the worse?
CASIEN: Being with Ulfric has certainly helped him to have more self-confidence. He’s learned to go easier on himself and to even indulge himself. He’s opened up and become friendlier. If they’d never met, he’d be very closed off and have his nose in a book 24/7. He would struggle to comprehend the profound - to see the poetry of life.
ULFRIC: He would be utterly consumed with duty. His heart would be cold, and he’d live a bitter, lonely life. He would try to do good, and see himself constantly failing. Being in love has changed that. His heart is no longer cold, and he accepts that there are people who love him, and that he’s worthy of their love. He fights to protect those he loves because he loves them. Unfortunately, he’s also become slightly obsessive about Casien - constantly worrying for his safety, stressing over whether he’s happy or not. It can be frustrating to have to deal with, but he’s also aware of those obsessive tendencies of his and does his best to curb them.
LAURIE: Obviously he’s lost a lot of his shyness. But it’s also been a struggle for him to share his life with another person. Luckily, Falk’s pretty aware of this and has been extremely patient and has given him as much space as he needs.
FALK: Laurie brought him out of his depression, to be frank. I don’t mean in that in a flippant, hyperbolic sense, just that he was noticeably happier and more interested in life around him after they met (Soren noticed it immediately and picked up right away that he’d met someone). So, really, Falk’s just happy again. He feels happy. He can wake up in the morning and go do this thing he unhappily volunteered himself to do (BE A JARL, basically) and actually, sometimes, enjoy it. Knowing he has someone to share it with in the evening keeps him going throughout the day.

I’m very pleased (and relieved) to have gotten my mojo back for both my WIP, even though my brain still feels half-burnt to a crisp after everything that’s happened this year... writing still brings me joy, even if it isn’t always as easy as it used to be.
Anyway, have a snippet from Chapter 6 of The Winter of Their Discontent:
((Usual Disclaimer: Readers, read at your own risk! Potential spoilers ahead.))
I could see that he was angry. What surprised me was that he didn’t seem to be angry with me. He got up after a second, pacing the sitting room, his fingers rubbing at his brow. I watched him, sniffling, feeling as if the biggest load imaginable had finally been lifted from my chest.
He paused and stared at me for a moment. Then he sighed.
“Poor little roebuck,” he murmured.
He sat back down beside me and pulled the cloth he kept in his pocket to clean his sword, using it to dab at my eyes. It wasn’t the first time in our relationship he’d done as much. He held my chin gently in his hands, and I stared back at him and sniffled while he worked. Then he quickly wiped my nose and I frowned, jerking my head back.
He laughed, the sound a low rumble of amusement.
“You aren’t mad at me,” I finally managed to say.
“I am not,” he said.
One thing’s for sure: I’ll never get tired of writing them together. 😊

WIP Wednesday
Thank you so much for the tags @musetta3 and @noire-pandora!!
💗💗💗
“Casien!” said Eleanor, as soon as I’d stepped foot into the meeting room, “Tell Brelyna she needs to ask Lucan out for a third date.”
“You need to ask Lucan out for a third date,” I said, taking a seat opposite them both. “Who’s Lucan?”
“He’s no one!” squeaked Brelyna, but Eleanor put her hand over her mouth and narrowed her eyes at me.
“He’s an extremely attractive first mate aboard the ship Hanna served on for her last job. He’s intelligent, romantic, and driven; he even has plans to captain a ship of his own someday. Oh, and when I say ‘romantic’? I mean romantic. He brought her roses on their last date.”
“Wow,” I said, looking at Brelyna, whose cheeks were actually darkening a little. “He sounds great.”
“A ship captain, hmm?” said Hasan, rubbing his eyes as he entered the room and took a seat beside me. “Can’t always trust those seafaring types.”
“Hanna vouches for him,” said Eleanor. “He isn’t the type to have a girl in every port, she swears.”
“Where’s Una?” I asked, frowning at Hasan.
“She’s putting down Ava. She’ll be here soon.”
He yawned, and Eleanor and Brelyna both gave him sympathetic looks.
“Is Ava not sleeping again?” asked Brelyna.
“No, and if she’s anything like her brother, Una and I won’t get a wink of sleep until she’s out of nappies.” He arched an eyebrow at me. “Should’ve given her to you this week. At least we’d have gotten a decent night’s sleep.”
“Bet that would’ve cured his baby fever,” said Eleanor.
“I don’t have ‘baby fever’,” I said, rolling my eyes and ignoring Brelyna’s doe-eyed sympathetic expression. “And who’s to say you’d get a decent night’s sleep? Emrik still crawls into bed with you every night, doesn’t he?”
Hasan sighed.
“How someone so small can take up so much space…”
“Is this about Emrik?” asked Una, finally entering the room. “He kicks in his sleep, too.” She smiled and sat down next to Hasan, giving his arm a little pat. “Just like his papa.”
“Apparently, I like to slap Ulfric,” I said, which caused Eleanor to snort and Brelyna to giggle. “But only when I’ve stolen the covers and he tries to pull them back.”
“That bed is huge!” said Una. “And you’re so tiny! How do you manage to steal all the covers?”
“So tiny,” said Hasan, grinning and patting me on the head when I glowered at him.
“Hanna sleep walks,” said Eleanor. “It’s a bit creepy.”
“Just think,” I said to Brelyna while shoving Hasan’s hand away, “You could have all this and more if you’d just ask Lucan out on a third date.”
Tis rough but I’m enjoying writing the gang together again! ✌✌

I was tagged by @tishinada Thank you so much as always!! 💗💗
Since I’m concurrently working on two different stories, I decided to share an excerpt from each! I just posted updates for each of these, but these are scenes from future chapters ;)
(Slight spoilers as always -- please read with caution!)
From Casien and Laurie’s story:
“You implied that some of them threatened you.”
Azura’s grace—I’d hoped he’d forgotten that part, or at least hadn’t paid it undo attention. Rather foolish of me, really.
“I don’t think they really meant it,” I said. “They were just scared, and—
“I do not suffer threats lightly. Least of all those made against you.”
I fell silent, my heart once again thudding in my chest.
“Suvaris Atheron is their leader, is she not?” I nodded. “I will summon her here, and we will discuss the matter together. You may attend the meeting as well, should you wish to.”
I waited for him to say more, but when he didn’t—I felt my heart gradually slowing, the tension leaving my body. He was still looking at me, his lips now twitching ever so slightly.
“Is this satisfactory?” he asked.
I blinked.
“You’re asking me?”
“I am.”
Even after six years together, they’re still trying to figure out how to keep their personal lives separate from their work lives. It’s always going to be a struggle, but I think each does his very best!
And now an excerpt from Imryn’s story:
Wherever we were headed it must have been across town, for he made his way up to the first parked hire-coach we found and spoke to the driver. After a few seconds, and the exchange of a few coins, he hopped up into the seat and waved for me to join him.
“You’d best pick Tuna up,” he suggested, and even offered to take her when I did. He set her down on the bench beside him, then offered me a hand up. I took it and felt myself blush, though I kept my head turned down so he wouldn’t notice—not that he could have, it was so dark.
“Where are we going?” I finally thought to ask, one hand reflexively gripping the armrest as the hire-coach jerked forward, the other resting on Tuna, who had crawled into my lap.
Beside me, Gale smiled and leaned back.
“The Yawning Portal. I meet a group of friends there every Fifthday. They’re a rowdy bunch, or at least some of them are, but I’m certain you’ll like them.”
I watched him, as discreetly as I could, while we bounced and rolled along vaguely southward. The wind pushed the hair back from his handsome face, and I couldn’t help studying his features: his heavy brow, neatly trimmed beard, and finely-shaped lips. He seemed unaware of my staring, though of course humans can’t see quite so well in the dark as elves can.
Imi, Imi, Imi. All that staring! Shameful.
And now I shall tag: @the-mushroom-queen-writes @alxxiis @maraleestuff @translimen @silvanils @archesa @musetta3 @sister-dear and anyone else who has something to share and would love to share it! As always, please feel free to tag me; I love to read (or look at) your beautiful creations!

1, 10, 20, and 31 for whichever ship!
1. What are things they both find funny?
ULFRIEN: The antics of the kids, definitely. Chomper being silly, too.
LAURIE: Bad smut. They’ll read it to each other and just laugh until they cry.
10. Write a ~300 word argument scene for them.
NOT YOU TOO!! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Okay I’ll try write one for ulfrien since I already did lauriebeard. Shouldn’t be too hard 😋
//
Her people were arguing again.
The little one, the one who loved to pick her up and squish her close against her face, press his nose into her fur—he was sitting in the middle of the bed, arms crossed over his chest, glaring in open defiance.
The big one—the one who only pet her when the little one wasn’t around, who sometimes fed her meat from his dinner if no one else was looking, who sighed in exasperation when she stretched herself across his desk—he was pacing, and running his fingers through his yellow hair, and when he spoke, it wasn’t the usual low, soft noises he made but more like growls.
The little one said something, and the big one whirled around, raising his voice.
The little one yelled back. He always yelled back. It made the big one’s eyes flash and his teeth clench in his jaws and his fingers curl into fists. Then, predictably, he said a few more sharp words and stomped his way out of the bedroom.
The little one watched where he’d gone for a few seconds. Then he began to cry.
The little one cried a lot. Usually the big one was here to comfort him, but she thought she might as well do it now. She hopped down from the dresser and trotted across the rug before bounding up onto the mattress. She slowed her pace, walking delicately and carefully over his legs under the covers before settling in his lap.
His arms curled around her and he sniffed and looked down at her. She touched her nose to his, smelling him—she liked his smell. She began to wash his chin.
He sighed and lay back against the pillows, pulling her close against his chest. She didn’t mind. She pressed her paws into the fabric of his tunic, flexing them, purring. He had stopped crying and was now petting her.
The big one would return soon. He would say more soft, low words, and the little one would look angry again. But the big one would look like an injured cow and hunch his shoulders forward and sit beside the little one until he, too, finally used soft words. They would embrace.
She would go and find a place in the sun to nap.
//
20. What is a promise they have made to each other?
ULFRIEN: To hide nothing from one another, and to always put their relationship first.
LAURIEBEARD: Falk has promised Laurie that he will never have to do anything he isn’t comfortable doing, that being married to a jarl will not force him to be someone he isn’t. Laurie vowed to himself to be as good a husband to his lover as he possibly can be, to try and please him if he can (a sort of compromise - he doesn’t care for social events, for example, but he knows he ought to attend sometimes).
31. What do they love to do after sex?
ULFRIEN: They snuggle (well Casien snuggles and Ulfric obligingly holds him) and talk.
LAURIEBEARD: Falk usually falls asleep, and Laurie enjoys some alone time. He might read or do some writing/editing. (If it’s midday sex, Falk hurries back to his duties, and Laurie probably takes a nap.)

For Casien and Ulfric: 12. Sneaking away to a hidden corner to share a secretive kiss. 16. One person pouting, only to have it removed by a kiss from the other person.
#16!!!! Guess it’s obvious who’ll be doing the pouting. 😏
//
“I put a lot of work into that new school,” said my husband.
“I know,” I said, though I was too distracted to look up.
I was searching for a clean undertunic, for I’d just gotten out of the bath after an hour or so of training in the yard, and I needed to dress quickly. The dedication was in half an hour, and I confess I was little pleased with Lia’s insistence that I attend. Of course, normally I would not have had to, but as Casien had fallen ill sometime last week, and was only just now nearing the end of his recovery, the task had fallen to me.
“Why do you always look for clean undertunics in that pile? There are clean ones in the trunk; the servants have been putting them there since before we were married.”
I dutifully gave off looking and turned to the trunk in question. Sure enough, there were several, neatly folded and waiting. I grabbed one and quickly pulled it on before moving to search for a tunic in the armoire.
“I’m showing absolutely zero symptoms,” my husband continued. “It’s very clearly not snowing today. And you know you’d rather me do it than you.”
“Perhaps,” I allowed, as I turned to face myself in the mirror. “I would also rather you remain alive.”
I didn’t need to look at him to know he’d just rolled his eyes.
“You’re so dramatic. Like I’m going to DIE from riding from here to the new school and back.”
I finished buttoning the tunic up and turned away from the mirror. He was staring at me, his mouth pressed into a frown—a pout, really, that could rival any of the children’s. His arms were crossed over his chest, and his legs were folded before him. He was no longer restricted to the bed, but it was his favorite place to read and visit with friends, should any come to see him. I had always found it strangely endearing.
“I wonder that you do not simply disobey me,” I said, coming to sit beside him on the bed.
I cupped his face with one hand, stroking his cheek with my thumb.
“Stop teasing me,” he said, his nose scrunching a little. “You’re being mean.”
“Turn me in to the ‘Bad Husband Society’,” I suggested.
I leaned in and kissed him, feeling his stubbornly rigid lips gradually soften under mine. When I pulled away, however, he was still glaring at me.
“That isn’t a thing.”
“You could start it,” I said, rising to my feet again. “Lia and Una will help you.”
He snorted.
“Poor Galmar and Hasan!”
I reached for the long coat I had thrown over the bed earlier and shrugged into it.
“I’ll be back soon.”
“Sure. Have fun standing in front of my school and acting like you care about it.”
“I do care about it.” I leaned down one more time, and this time when I kissed him, he kissed me readily back. “Perhaps I simply care for you more.”
“Whatever. I’m still reporting you to the Bad Husband Society.”
“As you should.”
I turned to leave then, pausing in the sitting room to reach for my sword belt and pull on my boots. I heard him sigh, heavily, from the bedroom, and couldn’t help smiling. Then I sighed myself and made my way to the outer door. Thinking about him in our bed, warm, comfortable, and curled up with one of his books, would surely help the afternoon hurry past as I wished it might.
