I've seen many people placing Andrew in Gryffindor and I find it baffling because Hufflepuff is right there???

The man who killed for his brother? The man who beat up four guys for his cousin? The man who stood by Kevin's side at all times? The man who promised to protect Neil? If that's not hardcore loyalty then I don't know what is.

Andrew Minyard is a Hufflepuff and no one can tell me otherwise.

And Neil is definitely a Slytherin, not a Gryffindor like I have read it some fanfictions.

Of course he can be brash and reckless and he has a severe lack of self-preservation which could favour Gryffindor as his house but all of that is overshadowed by his pure ambition and determination to play Exy, devoting himself so entirely to his passion that he was fully prepared to throw his life away. Before that he was clever and resourceful enough to survive a whole year without his mother and he is extremely perceptive, seeing as he immediately noticed the difference between Andrew and Aaron.

But above all, Andrew and Neil are not Gryffindors because they do not have the strong moral compass and sense for justice that Gryffindors are mostly known for as they tend to not give a shit about people who they're not close to.

WIP Wednesday (10/4) | Guardian Angel Neil AU

Finally, Andrew’s last class of the day lets out and he’s the first one out of his seat. It’s finally time for him to see his angel again and he’s got so many questions he feels his head may explode. Andrew shoulders past a couple of his classmates and rushes down the sidewalk, eager to get back to Fox Tower. Or more specifically, to the roof.

Andrew vaguely registers that people are staring at him and skids to a stop. Running? He’d been running. What the fuck is wrong with him? Andrew Minyard does not run for anything. Not even divine beings with pretty eyes and freckles and— Okay. Actually, Neil might be the only thing in the world worth running for.

However, Andrew is not a child. He can wait. He can wait. And he can walk normally, for fuck’s sake.

Andrew picks up his feet once more and stuffs his hands into his pockets as he adopts his regular pace. After a couple of minutes, Andrew passes one of the campus coffee shops so he takes a detour just to prove to himself that he’s in no hurry. But it turns out to be a mistake, because the line is several people long. And now he'll have to wait even longer than usual.

Andrew sighs under his breath. He can wait. Neil will still be there in ten minutes. In fifteen or thirty. But he... wants to see Neil now. And that pisses him off. Andrew doesn't want anything. Except Neil.

Finally, the fic is out, A Monsters' Ball the pro-exy team MSBY Black Jackals (ft Andreil and some rabbits). Details like team line up and positions, alt jerseys, layers and some backstories beneath the cut.

So, our team line up and some details (and yes, I do have a colour coded spreadsheet to keep track of all this, which Neil and Sakusa constantly mess up by being the wrong year for their age bc they're babies, but ages are rough because no everyone has a declared birthday/age) with some art breaks between:

#4 Captain Meian Shuugo - 29, backliner, 5yrs MSBY, 5yrs college, from one of the country's best high school teams, 1 season as captain, trying really hard to be mature and not find everyone's antics funny, eternal rival to Hirugami Fukurou, captain of the champions, the Alders.

#20 V.Captain Hirugami Shouko - 26, backliner, 2yrs MSBY, 5yrs college, from another top high school, middle child of 2 pro-exy players (two of the earliest adopters before it got big, probably ppl who went to uni with Tetsuji and Kayleigh), younger sister of Alders captain Fukurou, joined the Jackals out of desire to say fuck you to her older brother.

#2 Amani Kanoka - 23, striker, rookie MSBY, 5yrs college, from a private all girls high school that became the best in the country, known as the Queens of Exy, very shy, has a lot of confidence issues, that she handles by being the best on court.

#5 Nathaniel Wesninski - 24, striker, MSBY rookie, 1yr Baltimore Wildcats, 4.5 yrs EAU Ravens, 0.5yrs PSU Foxes, joined the Foxes after only a year playing in a nowhere team but was quickly poached by the Ravens at Christmas that year and was a regular member the team the next year under his real name, very flighty, big fan of secrets, no idea how to handle the Jackals' chaos (they're like the Foxes but without the trauma).

#12 Bokuto Koutarou - 24, striker, 1yr MSBY, 5yrs college, one of the top 5 strikers in Japan in high school, another top high school team, ultimate himbo, might have committed tax fraud, has a word of the day calendar he's trying really hard to use properly, known for super sharp angle shots and for just bodying people and the ball.

#15 Sakusa Kiyoomi - 22, striker, rookie MSBY, 5yrs college, championship highschool team several yrs running, one of the top 3 strikers in Japan in high school, collegiate MVP, Team Japan 2016 squad, Team Japan U19 rep, grumpy baby, very into properly folded handkerchiefs, do not touch, preferably do not interact outside of court, speak to him via his adorable cousin or not at all unless saving him from bugs.

Halfway through the team stats, time for some art. The Away Colours! Maybe the racquets change to white too, idk I couldn't be bothered to recolour them though.

Ok, back to the second half of the team:

#3 Andrew Minyard - 25, goalkeeper, 2yrs MSBY, 3yrs USC Trojans, 2yrs PSU Foxes, best goalkeeper and rookie awards during his rookie season, didn't really tell anyone his plans after university just kind of vanished, only told a handful of people he'd signed for a team, Neil thought he was dead, he has a motorcycle now because city traffic is awful on his sports cars and the stadium is walking distance, sometimes plays defensive dealer.

#6 Inunaki Shion - 26, goalkeeper, 4yrs MSBY, 3yrs college (dropped out to go pro), middling high school only competed nationally once, the vodka aunt of the team, here to get people drunk, instigate drama with the monsters and then sit back and laugh, actually very soft on the youngsters, tolerates stupid nicknames like Inu-san and Wan-san (never get tired of that being translated Mr Dog and Mr Woof).

#9 Adriah Tomas - 27, backliner, 1yr MSBY, a transfer from European leagues, surprisingly fast for his size, just happy to be here, comes across as a bit of an airhead, but is usually right next to Inunaki instigating chaos and then pretending he doesn't understand the language enough to know what happened.

#10 Oliver Barnes - 30, backliner, 2yr MSBY, Team USA 2016/2012 Olympic squads, transfer from America, big friendly softie, dad of the team, actual dad of a 5yo girl, starting to consider retirement into coaching so is happy to spend the end of his elite career with these idiots.

#13 Miya Atsumu - 23, offensive dealer, 5yrs MSBY, Team Japan 2016 Olypmic squad, Team Japan U19 rep, from a top high school, considered the best dealer in Japan in high school, signed straight from high school, a particularly offensive dealer, easily doubles as striker, all rounder (all Jackals are all rounders but the dealers in particular), demanding and thoughtless jerk but not trying to be nasty, can come across as arrogant but is the first to accept his own mistakes.

#21 Hinata Shouyou - 22, defensive dealer, MSBY rookie, 2yrs playing street exy in Brazil, middling high school team on the rise, player backliner in high school despite wanting to be a striker, but learned to play all positions in Brazil, sometimes move position based on what team they're facing, general ray of sunshine, obsessed with exy, does meditation and yoga in the sunrise preferably on a beach.

Ok, team done, have some more art because yes, I did layer these team pics up slowly from the base dri-fit layers to the armour/padding to the jerseys.

The Jackals provide uniform everything from base layers to padding to anything like compression sleeves, knee/arm pads and everything else. Armour is provided by them to ensure it's up to regulation and team standards, the Jackals require some kind of shoulder padding (most of the team has detachable shoulder pads, while Bokuto and Sakusa who prefer more shoulder rotation and just more coverage respectively, where seperate bicep/shoulder pads). I've talked more about armour on older wip posts, but they're based on lacrosse chest pads. Brief version: strikers were shorter, around the vitals, backliners generally are longer on the sides to protect the ribs, goalies have more coverage because duh, and dealers wear whatever they like. Every single one has either hollow rigid or extra padded piece over the centre of the chest because, especially in younger players, a ball to the chest can stop your heart.

Okay, yes I've just finished The Foxhole court and I am planning to start The Raven King immediately. I've caught the bug.

Spoilery opinions to follow so If you haven't read it, avert your eyes. 🫣

So, I went into reading this knowing that Andreil was going to be a thing (thank you, Tumblr), still I also saw some stuff that people guessed Kevin was going to be Neil's love interest and I'm thinking - are we reading the same book? Because I think Andrew fell for Neil hard and quick. And he is pretty obvious about it, too.

Also, not sure what that says about me but I bloody love Andrew. I am biased as I always love a villanous-but-ultimately-good character. I do have some reservations however about him being ONLY FIVE FEET TALL! I mean, I know that Neil refers to him as a psychotic midget, which is funny tbh but also what if it really is a medical condition? Like 5 ft for an adult male is alarmingly short. I just feel if Nora had made him 5ft3 instead of 5ft I wouldn't have been worrying about him being mocked for a potential actual medical condition. That's all.

Book Two, here I come! 🤓

Today, soft andreil morning mini drabble. Tomorrow, who knows.

If it were any other person sleeping and fidgeting in their sleep, Andrew would never be able to get more than 10 minutes of consecutive sleep while sharing a bed with them. But this was Neil. "i learned to stay still and small and curled up in my sleep through years of survival" Neil. But Andrew always woke up before Neil. He never got out of bed though. After years of denying himself happiness and getting creative in not allowing himself things, Andrew was changing. At the pace of a dying snail, but still more than he'd like to admit. It was the effect of Neil Josten, the infuriatingly peaceful figure sleeping next to him.

Andrew always had a choice. Even when the situation seemed so inescapable that it threatened to make his sense of control crumble, he still forcibly created the space to choose. He had to. So ultimately, choosing Neil had been a decision he made. On purpose. And that decision had been the first in a while where Andrew had chosen something (someone) because he wanted it. He wanted nothing in life. But Neil had been a very specific brand of nothing Andrew's mind had somehow latched onto.

So against his self sabotaging tendencies of denying himself things, Andrew had allowed himself this. Neil.

Then, everything went downhill from there.

It started with allowing himself Neil, then allowing the thing (the nothing) between him and Neil to grow, then allowing the silence between them on the rooftop. He allowed himself to stop time whenever it was just them. He allowed himself to chase the taste of Neil on stolen cigarettes. Allowed himself to peek over the precipice of a deep deep blue that peeked right back at him with a gaze that made Andrew's skin crawl.

Andrew could only compare it to a disease, spreading from Neil to every single aspect of his life. Andrew was never the one to opt for running away, that was Neil's thing. But he sure as hell did try.

He tried looking away from Neil's eyes whenever they held so many unsaid words that Andrew could painfully read so clearly, but every time he saw a shade of blue, he couldn't stop himself from comparing it to Neil's shade. He tried forgetting the taste of Neil's laughter that slithered down his throat whenever they kissed, but every time he indulged in his sweet tooth, he kept thinking how sweeter Neil's lips would taste. He tried to shake himself mentally by the shoulders every time he got more and more used to Neil's easy show of trust, to the point of familiarity, but he didn't really have it in him to resist it in the end. How could he, when Neil, skittish hissing raccoon Neil, was laying himself bare for Andrew.

So of course it could only go downhill because of Neil. He couldn't keep up with the things he had allowed himself to feel not so numb about.

So every morning, when Andrew woke up before Neil, he allowed himself to... be.

this morning ritual had made its way into Andrew's everyday routine:

Wake up. Check if Neil is in bed (he always is.) Blink away the sleepiness from his eyes so he can see Neil clearly. Stare at Neil. Stare at the slow flutter of his annoyingly long lashes. Stare at the curve of his nose. How it curves down on its sides to Neil's cheeks. Stare at the tiny shadows cast by Neil's scars there. Stare at the long whitening scar going down all the way to his lips. Stare at Neil's lips. Stare at the bitten edge of his lower lip. Stare at his slightly stubbling chin. Then breathe.

Andrew usually falls asleep again after this little routine. But other times, like today, he feels rested enough to stay awake until Neil arises. So he repeats that little routine. Over and over and Over no matter how long it takes for Neil to wake up. He counts the times he repeats it. he makes sure to end on a number ending in 0 or 5. Even if Neil wakes up before he reaches a multiple of 5, he will keep going while pointedly ignoring the effect of Neil's morning voice on him.

Today, he'd reached 31 by the time Neil was waking up.

Neil's eyelids flew open, found Andrew, then relaxed, like every morning.

32...

Neil's chest rose and fell as he took a deep breath that sounded more like a fulfilled sigh.

33...

the morning sun bounced off Andrew right into Neil's eyes, making their blue impossibly lighter. His skin creased around their edges as he sleepily smiled at him and said "Hi."

...

34...

Andrew watched Neil's pupils change size and adjust to the light as he slowly blinked, unmoving.

35.

"Hi," Andrew finally responded.

It was only then that Neil sat up and stretched his arms, energy beginning to buzz under his skin as soon as he was up. Andrew didn't thin about how Neil knew not to get up in the morning until Andrew responded. Andrew didn't think that despite Neil's early stock of energy, he stayed still until Andrew greeted him, until he was done with his morning ritual that he had never told Neil about.

He saw his brain branching into two paths: the mortifying ordeal of being know, and the rewards of having someone who cares. He didn't have to think long about it, because Andrew knew that when it came down to Neil, the latter always won.

He mirrored Neil's position and they exchanged breakfast suggestions in quiet morning voices.

not the original kandrew anon. but i think its interesting that you said kevin would adapt to andrews boundaries once andrew checked him for it. and i think that's the ultimate difference between kandrew and andreil. neil didn't need to be checked for it. he didn't need time to develop to become a suitable partner for andrew. this isn't to say, that i agree that kevin wouldn't accept nos in a romantic or sexual context, i just think andrew can do better than kevin. and deserves to not have to check somebody into respecting those boundaries. i think it emphasises how perfectly andreil match each other.

respectfully I think you're really stretching what I said and what I meant. when I said checked by Andrew I meant like. being told no once lmao. not it being a long drawn out process of Kevin breaking Andrew's boundaries repeatedly despite knowing better, and Andrew punishing him for it. Kevin is invasive when it comes to exy but that's more or less it. and if he cares about Andrew in a romantic way it would seem really unlike Kevin to me if he kept doing something that he knows is not right for Andrew. even Neil was told to stop by Andrew lmao. learning someone's boundaries does not inherently have to include breaking them at some point.

#also I don't think this is exactly relevant here but a lot of the comments I've been seeing in the kandrew/kandreil conversation #don't seem to account for the fact that they would have romantic feelings for each other #which would inevitably change their relationship from what we see of them on screen #like it wouldn't just be the Kevin and Andrew that we see just...fucking. there'd be more involved #which is not to say they can't just have sex! like if that's all you want from them then go crazy #but if you want them to be in a romantic relationship I think the dynamic would be shifted slightly #aftg #🦊✉️

WIP Wednesday (9/27) | Guardian Angel Neil AU

A cackle rips its way up Neil’s throat, startling Andrew. Neil goes to cover his mouth, but it doesn't stop the pretty sound spilling from his lips. Andrew wants to get it on tape somehow.

“My family?” He asks, still laughing. “My family makes yours look like The Brady Bunch.”

Andrew levels a look at him. “How dare you.”

“I’m serious, Andrew. Your brother and cousin are a dreamboat compared to the people I share blood with. You’re lucky.” Neil says. Andrew sighs, then considers that statement. Sure, they’re decent-ish people. But they don’t… care about each other the way they’re supposed to. Aaron vehemently loathes him and Nicky is cautiously indifferent.

“Tell me about your family.” Andrew says.

“Tomorrow. Uh, maybe.” Neil says, fiddling with the sleeve of his hoodie. He looks down into the parking lot. “I want you to go downstairs and take care of yourself.”

the foxes in high school if they were not traumatized au

part 2 (ft. everyone being oblivious)

when andreil starts dating no one really notices, even though andrew and neil will mention their relationship but people sort of just think it's a weird inside joke. this is because of many reasons, but here's a few of them:

kevin knows they're together and will tell them to stop flirting whenever he is in their presence, but neil will always go "ew cooties" while andrew just looks offended, and people assume it's becuase he's been accused of flirting and not because his bf just said he has cooties

most people think andrew is straight even though he regularly makes gay jokes, because they think it's his weird way of supporting nicky (even if a lot of the jokes feel vaguely homophobic), and that him and neil just have a weird jock bromance going on

whenever neil wants to hold andrew's hand he very dramatically goes "give me your hand" in a weird voice and then andrew (very reluctantly) will put out his hand, and then once they are walking neil very dramatically swings their hands back and forth until andrew tells him to calm down

when they are sitting on sofas andrew sits at one end while neil sits side ways with his legs on top of andrew's lap, taking up the entire couch. everyone thinks they are just being assholes who are unwilling to share a couch (which yeah, they definitely are) but it's actually just that cuddling is very awkward when other people are on the same couch as you, so they're improvising.

andrew and neil will sometimes take kevin with them on their dates. kevin is horrifically bisexual and obsessed with aaron, so andrew says it's because he wants to keep an eye on him. neil says it's because kevin doesn't trust them to not do something dumb that ends with them kicked off the exy team. the rest of the school thinks that they are just the ultimate friendship trio. when kevin starts dating aaron people are like "omg but what about neil?" and kevin's just kind of like "he has andrew?" and people are like "but you're dating andrew, right?" and kevin is very eager to list of all the reasons he would never date andrew, and why aaron is husband material.
