Ngl I feel like (umbrella) Ben is much more pragmatic than people tend to give him credit for. He’s very tough love. There are a couple moments that point to this, but I think his scene with Viktor in season 2 is one of the best ones.

There, he doesn’t just comfort Viktor. He also refuses to let Viktor wallow in his upset feelings and just self destruct. He refuses to buy into this narrative that Viktor can’t control himself—that he’s just a bomb waiting to go off.

"Dad couldn't handle your anger. That doesn't mean you can't. And maybe you have a right to be pissed off and sad and messed up, but...it's a shitty world full of shitty people sometimes. You aren't a monster. You're my brother. And right now, our siblings are risking everything out there trying to save you. You aren't alone at the table anymore, Viktor. You can do this."

You’re not a monster, you’re my brother is often taken at face value as a rather soft and mushy statement, but in the context of everything else said, there is also this underlying, rather gritty sentiment—the world dealt you a shit hand, but so what. That’s life. You have to pick yourself up anyway. You’re not a monster—you can do better. You’re my brother—and our family is risking their lives for you.

Ben sympathizes with Viktor but he also insists that he take accountability for and control of himself. You see this in the way that he interacts with Klaus too. He loves Klaus, but he also demands that he do better almost incessantly. This sets him apart from other, similar emotional-support characters, at least for me.

Tbh Ben’s approach reminds me of Five’s ruthless pragmatism and his big-picture mentality, just in the emotional sphere. No I will not elaborate further.

I have a strong headcanon that all of the umbrella academy kids legal first names are their numbers because in the first episode Diego says grace named them but it shows later that grace didn’t come around till they were 4 or so. It’s the most confusing dmv trip for whenever the get their licenses.

Luther thought he would never change his number because he’s too proud of being the first, but now he’s reconsidering.

Diego would want to change it but that stuff is expensive and he lives in a boiler room, he’s definitely is saving up.

Allison has it on her to-do list but it just keeps getting pushed back to another day whenever something comes up.

Klaus tried with some credit card he stole but he didn’t have have any of his documents to do so and he was rejected.

Five has no reason.

Ben died and Klaus couldn’t figure out how to change a dead man’s name.

Victor did change it to Vanya but now has to change it again.

Something I just remembered about TUA is that Luther and Klaus both mention “The Jennifer Incident” when taking about Umbrella! Ben dying.

Then when we see Viktor in Sparrow! Ben’s room, multiple drawings of a woman with the name Jennifer is plastered all over his walls.

My question is who the hell is Jennifer and she apparently has something to do with Umbrella! Ben’s death??

Was he like his girlfriend and broke up with him so he was distracted on the mission? Sparrow! Ben’s drawing sort of make it look like she died so maybe that’s it? Maybe Ben killed her by mistake? Is it a comic reference???

"I know, 'm sorry" you apologized and that seemed to make ben happy, which was a relief,' cause you really didn't want to fight with your secret handsome boyfriend; you'd had enough with Reginald's scolding.

But that moment turned tender when you remembered Ben defending you from Reginald, merely the scene had been so sweet and brave.

Finally you put your lips on his, letting out a contented sigh as you wrapped your hands around Ben's neck as he deepened the kiss.

"Are you still upset?"

"I wasn't mad at you" he assured as he caressed your face "just make sure you stay close to me on the following missions"
